https://darkcointalk.org/threads/rc5-launch-mandatory-update.2443/Hello Everyone, ****** PLEASE UPDATE TO RC5, THIS UPDATE INCLUDES A SPORK (A HARD FORK THAT CAN BE ACTIVATED AT WILL). WHEN 90% OF THE NETWORK HAS UPDATED, IT WILL BE ACTIVATED OR IN 3 WEEKS. *****
RC5 is officially available for download! This is a large update to the stability of Darksend, including: - Enforcement of masternode payments - Vastly improved effectiveness of the anonymity provided by Darksend (due to the audit of Kristov) - Improved speed of Darksend - Prepared code for open sourcing - Added Darksend overview screen so users can see what's happening This is the last release candidate we'll have. Open sourcing will happen in one week! After this, we'll have the community name releases and be doing a 2-3 month release schedule. For all changes, please see the changelog: https://github.com/darkcoinproject/darkcoin-binaries/blob/master/CHANGELOG.mdWhat's next for Darkcoin?
Next we're going to start working on a demo version of Instant Transactions ( https://www.darkcoin.io/downloads/InstantTX.pdf). It's going to take a lot of work to lay the foundation, soon after we'll be calling for some testnet users to try it out and report back. Other improvements in the works include fixing DOS hardening for the Masternode network and Darksend. How To Use Darksend (Thanks vertoe!)

interesting paper to read, i'm very anxious to see it at work. I'm hoping we can start testing it in a few weeks

Heh, proof of volume: my wallet started denominating. Been sitting there so long doing nothing that I forgot about it.
The coins being bought are leaving the exchange(s), not hanging around for sell, or else I wouldn't notice this, eh?
I was thinking, upon RC5, maybe we should resend and redenom just to make sure there are triplets available. I'm willing to blow a few DRKs in fees for it.
something.. like.. this ? (running on 1 pc .. but only for test purposes on Testnet) I'm not sure what that is supposed to be showing me... What I mean is that once my pile of DRKs is fully anon, 8 deep, I'll just send it to a new address and start over again to ensure there are enough denomination grades for other people to match up with. sorry.. this was maybe not the best way to sneak some RC5 pics of large wallets close to full anonymization in here. I like your proposal of resending to a new address (which might even be necessary when RC5 gets released to Mainnet and one is still on older wallets) to get enough denomination grades going.

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/rc5-launching-september-22nd.2382/RC5 - Spork Ahead!
Development has been moving along consistently and we’re almost ready to launch. We’re going to be launching RC5 on the 22nd (Next Monday). Instant Transactions
We’re working on a paper describing the instant transaction system, expect that on Friday. We’ll also have more announcements and very detailed development update coming later this week. What's included and what's the plan?
RC5 has a basic version of enforcement built into it that when activated will guarantee masternode payments are present in a block. So far, testing has proven the code is working and we're in the process of working out some of the final issues with it. The code is very simple and when activated the network will simply reject blocks from pools that have not updated. Open Source
Darksend will be open sourced one week after RC5 has been released, September 29th. This will allow updates if needed before the code is released. What's Next?
Darksend is working really nicely with no pressing issues presently. I would like to take some time and implement the Instant Transaction system immediately following release or RC5. -Evan

This will finalize Darksend and prepares the way to opensource Darksend which will be very soon after RC5. After RC5 there will be a focus on implementing an unique system of Instant Transactions, more details about that will follow soon... stay tuned. Very exciting times right now for Darkcoin. Thank for this thread qwizzie. There are so many great updates and indications of tremendous work being one. I think DRK has a very sound future and I'm looking forward to the exciting times ahead. no problem .. glad to be of service.

Isnt RC5 meant to be open sourced?
i know a lot of effort went into RC5 to make Darksend opensource ready (i think i read somewhere that Evan felt it could be done with RC5 already and so he and some of his collegue's were placing commenting in the code for opensource purposes). But i havent seen an official statement yet that RC5 will mean open-source for Darksend, maybe more will get clear with the next development update that Evan mentions....

9/14 8:51 pm <evan82> I just solved one of the largest problems facing Bitcoin. Instant transactions. I know how to do it... 9/14 8:52 pm <evan82> It'll be compatible with Darksend too. So we'll have anonymous instant transactions. 9/14 8:52 pm <evan82> Oh and there will be no bloat, that is the problem with POS. I bet we can get a confirmation within 10-20 seconds in most cases. 9/14 8:52 pm <evan82> It also fixes the finney attack, which is another huge problem for bitcoin 9/14 8:56 pm <eth2> =) thats some good news 9/14 8:56 pm <eth2> lemme know when you need testers 9/14 8:57 pm <evan82> Yeah, I'm obviously pretty excited about it. I just had a eureka moment 9/14 8:58 pm <evan82> It's simple, elegant, instant and will cost a ton of money to subvert. Perfect 9/14 8:59 pm <eth2> does that have any technical implication on how transactions are processed and blocks? 9/14 8:59 pm <eth2> from a pool standpoint 9/14 8:59 pm <evan82> nope. 9/14 8:59 pm <evan82> It's not even a hard fork [...] 9/14 9:25 pm <moli> interesting.. https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/4942/what-is-a-finney-attack9/14 9:27 pm <evan82> It could possibly stop a finney attack. It's funny you post that, it's what I'm thinking about righ now 9/14 9:27 pm <evan82> right* 9/14 9:28 pm <evan82> It can definitely stop all other double spends, but finney attacks require the client to reject blocks. WHOWWWW this is great !! now we just need an official statement from Evan to make this Public for real !!!! Yes, it's real and the solution is really cool I'll be publishing a paper soon to explain all of the details. gotta love those eureka moments

My portfolio holdings in Darkcoin have lost over 50% value. Looks like I've made a bad investment decision in Darkcoin.
same can be said for altcoins in general. A lot of altcoins were hit hard when Bitcoin took a nosedive a few weeks ago. I have still hope that with the nearby opensourcing of Darkcoin and launching a marketing campaign will make it go upwards again, maybe more slowly or maybe rapidly. edit : we have just started to climb out of a very big hole... but we are rising again.

Darksend is what it was, is and pretty much always will be.... can we please move on. if you really wanna bicker about something then bicker about if its called Darksend or DarkSend or Darksend+
