Italy is really conservative when it comes to choosing managers for themselves. They have always preferred Italian managers so far just as they have done with Spalletti last. Mancini could have kept his job if they didn't get a shocking result against North Macedonia. Now there is another psychological war for Spalletti this time to move North Macedonia out of their way.  Smiley

I hope that Spalletti will be victorious unlike Mancini. I'm just hesitant about Italy after seeing their recent performances (even the one against Malta).

This team actually have a bigger capacity than this. Spalletti needs to have a good chemistry with the players.

I can agree with that. Brazil is another example for this. They also prefer Brazilian coaches. No matter from what nationality they choose their coaches the most important thing to bring success to the team. Italy haven't been able to meet the expectations until this point. That elimination in the World Cup qualifiers was really dramatic as well.

Now they are still in this for Euro 2024 and I assume they would do their best to make it here this time. Spalletti has a big responsibility now.

Group F is still open to every kind of surprise. Even the last placed team can finish as leader. I mean Newcastle by saying that. Because Milan were also doing really bad by not scoring a single goal but this PSG win made them start to believe in for last 16 stage. PSG are still not trustworthy at all.

Because the inconsistencies in their performance continues. They are quite dependent on Mbappe's score contribution I'm afraid. I don't see them playing good very often when Mbappe doesn't perform strikingly well. I don't know if PSG can make it to next stage by playing like this.  Sad

^Ajax is a talent factory. They've relied on producing and grooming talent to sell on and make profits while being just good enough to win a historically less competitive league to qualify for UCL, which brings in further revenues.

They'll always be attractive for young players because of that route -- their problems now are club management and scandal, and eventually not having enough good players to keep making the difference. And I said two seasons ago that they actually need to rethink their strategy. You need to retain players and cultivate a little more instead of churning them out, particularly now that their league competitors are getting much better.

P.S. Yes, yes, I'm trying to get over Liverpool. But better to purge the bad results at group stage with second stringers.

Since Erik ten Hag left the team something odd happened to this team. They are having a huge downfall in every tournament they are in now. Even in the Eredivisie they have had serious problems on winning matches so far. The Europa League has almost finished for them as well after losing against Brighton twice in a row.

This team deserve a much better management and we will see if they can find the right person. By the way maybe Erik ten Hag would return to Ajax in case of not being able to improve at Manchester United for a longer time period.
706  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ English Premier League Season: 2023/2024 on: November 13, 2023, 09:48:27 PM
What's new about the league getting corrupt? Both players held themselves but only one got booked, so attackers are permitted to pull defenders but defenders are not allowed to grab attackers; the double standard of officiating this season is worrisome and will only worsen. Antony Taylor was demoted for his terrible decision against Wolves, only to return for another disasterclass. Lol

I've always respected bald refs until Anthony Taylor came into the picture.

Mourinho criticized and got really angry at Anthony Taylor in the Europa League finale previously as well. It looks like Anthony Taylor is still drawing a lot of attention to himself.  Grin  This season the referees are really bad in the Premier League. I mean there have been a lot of bad decisions in many matches so far.

For example I still don't forget Diaz's disallowed goal in the Tottenham match. It was called offside but it wasn't. PGMOL also stated that after the match. I hope to see some improvements in decisions but we are just seeing more mistakes.

^  You mean overall this whole season he's been disappointing...  I think the last race was his highlight for the whole season.  Lol.  But yeah, the question is if he could still redeem himself next season as Red Bull could have already earmarked a guy to replace him after his contract with the team ends.  As for who the replacement is, dunno...  But I'm hoping it's Daniel Ricciardo.  On his good days, he's way better than Perez imho.

Anyway, from a betting perspective...  Nada.  Verstappen at 1.29.  Not much meat on the bone imho.  But it could be a volatile race as this setmof drivers haven't raced in Vegas before.

What car is fastest on the straights?

If Red Bull decide to replace Perez then their choice would be a similar driver who won't make serious problems for Verstappen. Ricciardo would absolutely be a good candidate for that. If we had the old version of Ricciardo then I would have said the opposite. Because he was so ambitious which even caused some really bad crashes between him and Verstappen.

When it comes to what car is fastest on straights I can say it is Red Bull now. Once upon a time it was Ferrari.  Grin  However now they just can't get ahead of Red Bull about that either.

Stuttgart was one of the clear picks for me this round - they actually hammered Dortmund and the scoreline should have been bigger.
Dortmund had a midweek CL game, and was playing away to an in-form team - I expected a lot more people to go with them.

@cls63, I pulled one back. Do you feel the pressure?

To be honest I wasn't expecting Stuttgart to win the match at all. However I'm still holding an important advantage in my hand. I don't feel any pressure now because of believing in Faker to take his team to the finale today. However in case of T1's losing here things can change for me dramatically. Tonight the winner is going to be decided. Smiley

710  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Lega Serie A 🇮🇹 (Italian League) Prediction Thread 2023/2024⚽ on: November 11, 2023, 10:43:46 PM
As far as I see Napoli are doing nice even without their most important player who is Victor Osimhen. They haven't lost a single match since he got injured. When it comes to productivity maybe they could have been better. But I'm linking this to the absence of Osimhen. The speculated time for his return is late November for now.

It would be the best for Napoli to have him back as soon as possible. They can normally score many more goals than this. Feeling his absence quite much about it shows how great striker he is at this young age.  Smiley  Napoli had better have a good season to maybe increase their chance to keep him here longer.

To be honest I didn't expect Hatayspor to be the team to stop Galatasaray finally after so many weeks. Galatasaray's performance wasn't good in the first half. Unlike that they really tried in the second half. There was a really high level domination. However they still got behind and couldn't even get one point.

This is good news for Fenerbahçe of course. After they lost to Trabzonspor unexpectedly they really needed Galatasaray to lose points too. However their job is also going to be really challenging against Adana Demirspor. They aren't in a good form now after the Ludogorets loss as well. I hope we can finish this bad streak.
712  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League 2023/24 Season on: November 11, 2023, 10:25:02 PM
It was an important win for Arsenal against Sevilla last week. Because obviously this win has put Arsenal in a much better position in the group. There are still 2 more matches to go but I don't think Arsenal will lose their lead. Their performance against Sevilla was rock solid. It was a really one-sided deserved win and Arsenal needed this kind of a win as well.

Because I think Arsenal haven't been performing very impressive in the English Premier League so far. This kind of performances would motivate them for more. But it is difficult to predict how far they can go here for now.

Edit: just finished my transfers for the week and I am quite happy with the team. Should be good going forward. Be prepared Martinelli will go nuclear today, I was switching between him or Bowen for Maddison and landed on Bowen. Gonna regret this one but took it because of xMins. Also gives me a nice amount of cash in the bank for future transfers.

I liked your squad quite much. However Gabriel made me lose many points this season. Whenever I thought about transferring him Arteta kept him on the bench. Because of this I don't think about transferring him again this season. By the way what are your opinions about Hwang Hee-chan? In my opinion he is a player with scoring potential.

Man these seats are a sweat deal. You are still quite close for this bargain of a price, lucky you. Also lucky you that Efes deliver a crazy game with a hot comeback by Zalgiris but the win for Efes in OT, must have been exiting to watch I guess.

I'm really feeling myself lucky for being able to watch Euroleague matches live. Besides the limited number of Zalgiris supporters also enlivened the match. Smiley

Seems it was night of comebacks, Zalgiris returned from -18 and sent game to overtime, Olympiacos also had -18, but then was was close from win, Partizan had -15, but managed to win game. Congrats with Efes win. While Zalgiris had similar problems as they have all season long and if they won't sign any player soon, there is no chance to reach playoffs for them.
Atmosphere at Stark arena was amazing again and maybe one of main reasons why Partizan won today. I tried to switch to game in other Belgrade arena where Maccabi and Bayern played without spectators and it was hard to watch, instantly got flashbacks to Covid times.
And my prediction about Valencia didn't aged well, they got completely sweeped by Milano Cheesy.

Anadolu Efes absolutely need to make a center transfer. Otherwise even though they have star players such as Larkin, Clyburn it isn't easy for them to make it to play-offs at all this season.  Cry

First one of the semi-final matchups in Worlds 2023 was played between two China representatives today. Weibo Gaming which are 4th-placed in LPL managed to become the first finalist and made a surprise by eliminating Bilibili Gaming which are 2nd-placed in LPL. JD Gaming and T1 are going to play against each other tomorrow. Frankly I think that T1 will reach the finale and win the cup with Faker's impact. I hope I won't be wrong because cryptofrka chose JD Gaming as the team to reach the finale.

Today, Beşiktaş Burak Yılmaz announced that he resigned. Immediately afterwards, the news came that Riza Çalımbay was appointed as the head of the team. Rıza Çalımbay, in his first statements, said how important the support of the fans is and how happy he will be to be in this team.
A new era is starting for Beşiktaş, I hope they will soon become a team that can play much better and can achieve success both in Europe and in our country Smiley

They think they can solve the problems just by changing the manager. I don't think this solves anything. Beşiktaş have structural problems. They are trying to save the day with short-term changes. But they need to think more professionally. I think Rıza Çalımbay will not solve the problems either.

This week Fenerbahçe will play away to Adana Demirspor. I think they will lose points again this week. Adana Demirspor are a better team than Trabzonspor. And they get good results in home matches. Fenerbahçe may take another wound in the race for the league title.

Rıza Çalımbay has a history with Beşiktaş as a manager as well. It was nearly 20 years ago. And now he is back at the team with the same role. However just as you said the main issue has never been the manager. As long as Beşiktaş chairman doesn't change they can't magically make a big progress no matter who they bring to the manager position.

Beşiktaş fans must be hoping not to see ANÇ even as a candidate for the upcoming election. If he does and gets elected once again then I can't imagine the level of criticism targeting him. I have seen some news saying that he won't be a candidate but we will see.
720  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽UEFA Conference League Discussion Thread -- 2023/24 | Qualifiers on: November 10, 2023, 09:34:43 PM
Fenerbahçe have left a really problematic first half behind. They are 1-0 behind against Ludogorets away now. Piotrowski's goal was really unlucky for us as his shot was really hard to save for Livakovic.  Sad  I wonder whether the reason why we are playing this ineffective is our being in a comfortable situation in the group.

But the fans will still expect to see a better performance in the second half. They were like a ghost in the first half. Especially to compensate the unexpected loss against Trabzonspor it would be nice to get a good result here.

Unfortunately, despite having a better second half than the first, Fenerbahçe left the field with a 2-0 defeat. Especially in the first minutes of the second half they had some good positions and attacks but they couldn't make the finishing touch as needed. Fortunately, they got good results in the first games and they didn't get into trouble.

The second half was indeed better for Fenerbahçe. They were able to create dangerous goal opportunities more than the first half. But wasting all of them was like the turning point of the match. Fenerbahçe couldn't get any proper contribution from either starting eleven players or the bench.  Sad

Ferdi Kadıoğlu was the only player I can talk more positive about. He is a really consistent Turkish left-back which isn't a thing we see very often in Turkish football. He would probably get offers from bigger teams next summer.
