@dmwardjr @puwaha

The brand expansion sounds great and all.

What about ASIC Resistance?

The Discord ASIC Resistance Channel is spammed to a point of making it inconvenient for a developer to respond to my questions.  I ask for an update and if they have used PROG Proof of Work on a Test Net but NO response; NO update; nothing!

I honestly don't want to interrupt developers and let them do their job rather than spend their time responding to guys like myself who's asking for an update regarding their work on ASIC Resistance.  If a developer wanted to even find my question to them about ASIC Resistance, they would have to comb through at least one hundred posts in the ASIC Resistance forum on Discord.  That takes valuable time away from developers to actually work on ASIC Resistance.

Bottom Line:  The ASIC Resistance forum on Discord is full of spam from Pro ASIC and Anti ASIC rhetoric that allows no convenient communication with developers in a meaningful and profitable way for all of those involved in the discussion.

MedaR,

It certainly would be helpful if you could find out some kind of update for us, please.  It would be nice if you could keep us updated on ASIC Resistance WHILE allowing developers to do their work on ASIC Resistance; if they are actually doing any work in that regard.

Is there a team devoted solely to development on ASIC Resistance?  If so, where are they at this point?  If no team appointed, then why not?

Can you please ask the creator of the Discord server for ZEN to create a forum ONLY FOR CONFIRMED DEVELOPERS?  This way they can post updates on ASIC Resistance WHILE BLOCKING others who are not developers from spamming the forum.

Updates PLEASE...

If you piece together the clues from the official announcement and the talk on the ASIC Resistance discord channel, you will know that the devs and moderators have weighed in on this subject.  Here's what I have gleaned...

  • Switching parameters on Equihash will only slow down ASIC adoption.  Innosilicon indicated that they could adapt to new parameters like BTG had... could be done relatively quickly... my best guess is that this would be in the fall of 2018 as the ZEN team only wants to do major hardfork activities once a quarter
  • Switching to a new POW algorithm will take a lot of work, and nothing public has been mentioned about this.  This would take many months of preparation... my best guess would be 2019 before it could happen
  • There is currently no DEV team working on "ASIC resistance"... my best guess is because the issue is not settled
  • IF ZEC did do something to slow down ASIC adoption, or implement a new POW algorithm then it would be much easier for the ZEN team to port in that codebase.  One can see a lot of wisdom here, where the ZEN developers can focus on features and let the ZEC team come up with a algorithm change... the risk here is that ZEC decides to do nothing and my best guess would be that this would also be 2019

So... at best something could be done in the Fall of 2018.  The middle road is to do their own POW which would be 2019.  The best scenario for ZEN is that ZEC saves the day... again in 2019.  Worst case is that nothing changes, and the ZEN team realizes that ASIC resistance is futile, and embraces the benefits that ASICs bring to your algorithm like better security against 51% attacks.
I just seen this post on zen forum and seems promising https://forum.zencash.com/t/is-144-5-fork-going-to-happen-in-the-near-future/2143/4
I hope this post reflects our position in best way. I understand that this is not an exact answer and i know this does not satisfies everyone but this is best we can say for now. As soon as I get an update on ASICs topic I wil gladly post it here as well.

Thanks the info.
With Super nodes, just like the master nodes of DASH?

Dash Masternodes get paid 45% of the block reward on every block.
ZenCash has two different classes of nodes Super Nodes and Secure Nodes.
Both clases getting 10% of  reward on every block in Total this is 20% goes to node operators.

These are calculators :
http://supernodes.lebre.net/
http://securenodes.lebre.net/

ZenCash Secure Nodes tracker - https://securenodes.na.zensystem.io/
ZenCash Secure Nodes calculator - http://securenodes.lebre.net/

Secure node and Super nodes are very demanding in terms of procesor power and memory.
Masternodes are not and can be run on raspberry pi.

For Dash master node you need small fortune which is not the case with Zen Secure nodes nor if the price goes significantly up, they will stay available to ordinary people, and miners.

All in all you can not get bigger picture if you are focusing only on one segment of this project. ZenCash is platform now and side chains will shape up this project as one big useful provider for many usefull services protected behind powerful zksnarks technology.

The ZenCash Treasury and Voting model is the most elegant Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) model in the market. Once when become integreted it will help to improve community participation in decision-making for the network.

Is there any guide available how to setup a masternode with my Windows Server?
Detailed explanation how to setup your Secure or Super Node:

This guide's steps have been validated on the following Linux server distributions:

Ubuntu 16.04 64-bit
Ubuntu 18.04 64-bit
Debian 9 64-bit

There is no guide for Windows platforms.

Secure and Super nodes of ZenCash have performed well to prevent replay attacks.
thanks for adding them to the network, MedaR.

Are they more profitable than the mining?

Personally I would not experimented with this, all changes must also be applied to Secure or Super Node so there is no simple changing of address as far a I know..If you insist, I can help you find your answers on Discord channel.

Secure and Super nodes of ZenCash have performed well to prevent replay attacks.
thanks for adding them to the network, MedaR.
For now Secure Nodes and Super Nodes do not have protecting propose against 51% attack, but with this new redistribution of block rewards 10% Secure Nodes,10%  Super Nodes, 10% Treasury, only 70% goes to miners and this significantly reduse chance for this attack.

We are working on solution for this, please read this white paper  https://zencash.com/assets/files/A-Penalty-System-for-Delayed-Block-Submission-by-ZenCash.pdf

Capital letters are a pain, and most people really dont like it.
And when it comes to the moderators, they usually know the basics of a project. But for advanced questions they would need to confer with the developers.
The developers themself should not be available at all times, they got more important work than answering questions and sitting on discord.
This Is why I have left few contacts in one of my previous posts. Ask question and direct it to one of those guys this is fastest way.

I have question about Masternode. If I change my staking address in middle of the week, will I get payments separately to 2 addresses, or do I get all of the rewards in 1 address? (newest one)

Your Discord "sucks" and your moderators on discord "suck."

Can't get a damn answer from developers about a damn thing on discord.  Maybe it's because it's the weekend.  Who knows...

The moderator freaks out when using capital letters for EMPHASIS; and gives a damn warning for doing so.

Just plain sucks to be so touchy about something so small as using capital letters.  Geeeeeez

Good Luck!
I see you met our MEE6-BOT. (Whoever use capital letters will be warned by this bot).

Capital letters are annoying for most of users so we dont use them.

We have rules there, not because we want to maintain order, but to make this place more pleasant for members.  Lips sealed

I like this project, unlike anything else ive seen so far

I like it too...

However, to be "blunt" (honest; straight forward; frank) I'm not going to get burned promoting something like I have before.  I used to promote the hell out of ZCash on other platforms.  Especially, Trading View.  When Zooko and the rest of the developers sold out GPU miners for ASIC's, it PISSED me off.  Pissed a LOT of us off.

I will promote ZEN once I see actual transition to a different Proof of Work to exemplify their commitment to ASIC Resistance.  Until then, I'm sitting idle on the sidelines in regards to "promoting" this coin on other platforms.

If people are "offended" by my honesty, so be it.  I really don't give a damn.  Being "straight up; honest; blunt; without beating around the bush" is the way everyone should be in my opinion.  That includes founders and developers.  I don't think it's too much to ask...
You are absolutely right and I respect your opinion and strong attitude regarding ASIC. We are open for all as community project. Feedbacks are welcomed no matter how good or bad they are. Thanks!
