---

For the month of August, my secure node averaged 0.048325 ZEN/day.  The APR came out to 37.26%.  The APR is lower because I have more than 43 ZEN in the wallet.  I started with 43 ZEN back in December 2017.  I have been collecting ZEN in the wallet trying to figure out what to do.  At my current rate, I could start another node in 03/08/2020.

Since any balance over 43 ZEN is not contributing to it's growth, I am not sure APR is a valid metric for this type of investment.

as far as I know, you need 42 ZEN to run secure node.
It does not matter if you have 42 or 80 Zen in your wallet, you can run only one node with 42zen. So you earn rewards per one node, where is collateral 42 ZEN.
here is the difference between a secure node(masternode etc...) and staking. For staking more coins in your wallet means more stake rewards to you.

https://securenodes.na.zensystem.io/about

- Secure nodes are demanding little bit more PC power than ordinary nodes.

- Procedure is little bit more complicated, security is on the first place!
https://zencash.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ZEN/pages/7537322/Installation
But with all help from community and instructions this is not problem at all.

- All comunication beetween nodes and wallets is encrypted.

- Secure Nodes are affordable to many ordinary people.

- Your coins are on safe place not on the node!

Horizen getting more value with all new implementations (soon DAO and voting system, SideChains..) This is only possible because of constant flow of money from treasury injected in research and development..

@ MedaR
I got this calculation for the secure node. Is it correct?

Code:
Daily Earnings:
0.08 ZEN ($1.28)
Daily Profit:
0.07 ZEN ($1.11)
Monthly Earnings:
2.4 ZEN ($38.4)
Monthly Profit:
2.09 ZEN ($33.40)
Annual Earnings:
28.8 ZEN ($460.8)
Annual Profit:
25.05 ZEN ($400.80)
Annual ROI:
59.64%

calculated on 9000 active SN.
Number of nodes on network can be seen here with all details:
https://securenodes.eu.zensystem.io/
There is no need to calculate this based on wrong numbers.. Smiley

Price: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/zencash/

Calculator: http://securenodes.lebre.net/

As you can see input datas are taken from Node tracker, price is taken from Coinmarketcap but it's up to you to choose which exchange is more preferable to you. This is estimation for one Secure Node.  Payment vary with price of Zen and Number of nodes.
Also you can see daily estimated earning in Zen per node on Tracker.

So when did the name change and why? I know I've been offline for a few weeks but didn't expect Zen to change it's branding. Oh well.

Horizen is not only a cryptocurrency but a platform with privacy-focused apps. So Horizen needed more than a fresh logo and the website revamped.

What apps sir? i did not see any REAL apps untill now, only small talk about it....
SideChains will enable this in full capacity. For some integrations we need time. One of the first applications will be our DAO.

For me, ZenCash is more powerful. I'm not sure what the exact reason is for fully rebranding. Maybe only design & logo can be changed.

It's more about a brand expansion to represents the perspective of the community. Horizen is not only a cryptocurrency but a platform with privacy-focused apps. So Horizen needed more than a fresh logo and the website revamped.

I'm curious, how will an individual's data be protected (private) BEFORE it gets put on their "privacy" blockchain?

I'm not asking about currency that can be kept private with a hardware wallet.  I'm asking about a piece of hardware your data is on before it gets on another piece of hardware that's not encrypted and may be compromised BEFORE it gets uploaded to their blockchain.  Or visa-versa, data that's on a piece of hardware [That may be compromised] and someone now wants to put that data on a privacy blockchain AFTER that data has already been compromised from being entered on a piece of hardware that has been compromised.

The marketing sounds great and all but has everyone REALLY thought this through?
As far as I know there are no projects in existence, that can fully answer on your demands. All existing projects are based on technology (Not hardware) -> piece of code  and mathematics.. But in the near future this is not excluded. We are solving problems one by one.  Also we are raising awareness about need for privacy, as basic human right. 100% privacy is not possible even with the best hardware and software in the world, there will be always a human error and stupidity.

New logo represents our values, qualities, and technology, it is attractive and versatile. ZenCash expanded their brand to reflect it’s direction with technology advancements and social innovations! We are platform now and we have much more to offer not only "cash".

Nice rebrand. Avoiding its synonymous effect to other coins
It should be main topic here Smiley Thanks!

Back on topic... I think the devs are getting way too much flack for their decision to delay introducing any POW algorithm changes.  Their decision was a hard one, but ultimately their decision was based on the security of the network which is more important.  I know many GPU miners are disappointed, but changing to a new algorithm opens them up to new 51% attacks from another Nicehash GPU onslaught.

When the equihash ASIC were first announced, I saw a little bit of a knee-jerk reaction from the devs and that worried me.  They had a few months to consider some options, but this kind of change is not easy.  I like the position that they would rather be the leader of an algorithm, than just chase their tails trying to prevent ASICs every six months like Monero is trying to do.

They need to complete their consensus changes, and then take a look at alternatives like ProgPOW, MTP, etc.

Ultimately it's the features of an altcoin that will make people want to use it, not whether it can be mined by a GPU or ASIC... that's petty stuff.

And no one would like to see this scenario (Another attack)!

BlockDAG is meant to collapse difficulty. It was always meant to be the long term solution to mining centralization.

This is more than useful comment!

Last Month Zen By-weekly update claim as follow:

Preventing 51% attack(A penalty system for delay block submission)/ Protocol 50% / Release Q4/ 8/8 Code is finished. Undergoing final review.
Now ASIC resistant make Horizen Network more vulnerable or the DEV team less whealthy?
Ask that question your self.
You probably don't know much about this team  every new feature must pass rigorous testing before go mainnet.

Quote
we're keeping overall system security as priority #1 that goes without compromise. Until we have 51% prevention solution in production, we just can't mess around with potential drops in hash rate right now. I see no reason why we can't fund other serious R&D into alt algos, but let's not forget that the most promising mining decentralization solution--blockDAG--is funded, we've gone from math to prototype mode now, so we're not giving up by any means on real decentralization

ZEN miner and holder too, wondering what is the official position regarding ASIC mining. Something will be done about that and if yes when. A clear answer will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The Zencash team thinks the changing of the PoW is lower priority than the super/secure nodes and something else. So there will be no change of PoW in the short term.
This is not true! Security of this project is priority! The recent decision simply means that we aren't willing to risk a drop in hash by shifting parameters, and become target for another 51% attack.

Quote
I'm all for algo R&D, but in terms of priorities and what we're actually spending eng resources on: 51% protection, tx efficiencies, network efficiencies, product improvements and new product releases, treasury DAO (which would make voting on these things much better!), sidechains, and DAG R&D (which i think is real solution anyway), it doesn't make sense to do the EH param shift or to divert resources from
one of these other key differentiating techs to new algo implementation purely for asic res

Think about everything we're doing and where this project is going. The team is rocking it across the board and we're just getting better at what we do; we have good projects right now we're pushing out hard to key growth segments, and we're about to release great new products; then there are the key future differentiators--treasury DAO, sidechains, smart contracts with snarks, blockDAG, etc.--none of this changes bc we didn't choose an EH param shift, so this all has to be kept in perspective. There are other projects that solely focus on asic res (like vertcoin), that's not us. Ironically, blockDAG has the potential to blow this whole decentralization of mining question out of the park

What I believe we should do is continue to work on the path we have been on along. We have a software development path that will continue to make ZEN easier and better for users. It takes time to develop, test, and ship software. By following our roadmap we will get to where we need to be. We are in it for the long term, for providing the systems and solutions that we have been discussing and planning since before we launched. ZEN may go up and down in price compared to both USD and BTC in the short term, but in the long term the value will be determined by its usefulness and the amount of people using it. As long as we keep working on that, the price will take care of itself.

Hi guys.

Do you have a list posted somewhere about services providing Zen node set up?

Why not set a node yourself? It may look difficult first seen, but there is all info needed on their blog or BlockOPS blog too.
In case there is a step you struggle they can help you
Use only this instruction + help from Discord channel

BlockOPS blog is obsolete Smiley

I prefer a lot to see the team working for a long-term solution rather than something that will last 2 weeks lol

Hi guys.

I know about this one https://chainsaw.ninja/. There are few others services, I usually stumble upon on the Discord channel

Devs don´t mind because they have a 10% piece of cake to them, and "maybe", "maybe" a free batch of ASIC miners to them....
Strange how some accusations can be thrown without facts, and this comes from an supporter who yesterday wanted to join Campaign. I understand your anger but some posts here are exaggerated.

There are now a few miners that controls about all the mined coins, and that are trying to sell to the suckers...

And there is a guy screaming that we can focus on nodes, it is like to say to keep the crumbs, while big ASIC industry controls almost all the cake.

The price of Zen is falling everyday. a coins that was steady at 30/35 USD for months is now below 20USD, and with no perspective of beeing better at mid-term.

This project to me is marching to letargy, not to say worst.

Was a project i liked a lot, but now that was "sold" to ASIC industry i doubt that this will see bright days.

And it is sad to me, because i had great expectations with this project, and now i have to look arround in order to find a better one, maybe monero....

 - Security of this project is priority
 - This project is not all about mining
 - There are a lot of things need to be done in coming period, we are sticking for the road map.

Quote
Moving to a blockDAG should allow us to collapse the difficulty to a point where single GPU solo mining is possible once again. This has been talked about for 8+ months now and has always been the mid term solution we're aiming for.

The recent decision simply means that we aren't willing to risk a drop in hash by shifting parameters, and become target for another attack.

The real solution to decentralise mining is and almost always has been the blockDAG, that's why it's a fully funded project that's already well underway.

Quote from above means we alredy are working on our own solutions for this problem - long term solution, instead of rushing into something that can cause us  more problems and potential security vulnerabilities.  BlockDAG is meant to collapse difficulty. It was always meant to be the long term solution to mining centralization.

The current decision was based on a parameter change that was a very short-term action. We are hoping to start the DAO implementation Q4 of this year, so you will have chance to vote fairly for any kind of changes you want.

Op reads: something will be allocated over to somebody through the reward droppings funded by Horizen treasure. Im not asking where the treasury is, that would a rhetoric question. Just wanna know if theres any treasury and who is in charge of it. I could pull a mind control trick on u to extract the knowledge in its original form ur carcass if I wanted to.
The Zen Blockchain Foundation is the legal entity that allocates Treasury funds. One of our active projects is to provide our community visibility on how the funds are allocated -- (% of funds allocated for engineering, marketing, team compensation, integrations, etc.). Currently, the Foundation delegates authority to team leadership/directors on the use and prioritization of budget. Soon resource allocation decisions will be made by the DAO. Our DAO is still experimental, and we'll likely incrementally increase the resources available for the DAO. Meaning, when the DAO goes live in production it may not have 100% of the funds available to vote on. Blockchain technology and decentralized governance are experimental. We will proceed with caution and release a MVP that will require tuning and refinement. Ultimately, we look forward to the day when we successfully implement our DAO and have a programmatic liquid democracy in place! Furthermore, our team leadership consists of respective individuals in their fields. We do not need to compromise our combined 70 years of experience and reputation.
