How much bitcoin do you have? You people aren't speaking in complete sentences.
I have one Bitcoin for sale for $1k Yes, I would like to buy it. Hold onto it for me for a couple of years, will ya? Why would anybody buy your coins for $1k, or 300k francs (or whatever the fuck currency the OP is talking in), when they can buy it for $120-$140 elsewhere? ...And that's how markets work

1 mBTC = 1 milibitcoin = .0001 bitcoins
Note there are three 0s, the metric system goes in threes. I can't believe how dumb most people are at this!
I really hope you were just trolling...

So there's a lot of confusion amongst the current Bitcoin enthusiasts.
Just a lot of people who need to brush up on their maths

Its the SI standard prefix for 1/1000. Think mm (millimeters, 0.001m) or ml (millilitres, 0.001L)

This pointless thready get really annoying, I'm at the point where I would set the whole Speculation Board on my Ignore Board list so all the Threads don't show up in my "Show unread posts since last visit." like I did with all Languages I don't speak.
But after all there are still some Interesting Threads here from Time to Time.
Proposed Solution:
Make a Technical Analysis -Subboard so the "real" speculation Threads have a place to be separated from all the Spam.
This should be in meta, stop spamming up the speculation board...

Can't believe I spent that much time only to discover that the RAM I bought was dodgy...
Cheers for the input though, I will consider using debian instead although ubuntu *seems* to be working okay now.

trust is needed in ant human contact. Is that because of the size difference, the acid spray or both? Ants are notoriously untrustworthy

Okay, so basically me and a few friends decided to build a rig and mine some litecoins. None of us had ever built a computer before so its been quite a learning curve, but we've managed to get it up and running. Unfortunately I've run into a problem that I can't figure out, so finally I've given in and decided to ask for help. I wanted to take the opportunity to move over to running linux, seeing as I keep hearing how much better it is once you learn how to use it. So I'm running ubuntu desktop 12.04 on a bootable usb, but it keeps freezing up on the rig. Thing is, it works fine when I boot on my laptop. I thought it might be the driver for the GPU that needed replacing, but that hasn't seemed to help (although theres a high probability I haven't installed it properly). I don't really want to give up and revert to using windows, so I thought I'd post here and see if anyone has experienced a similar problem or could (hopefully) point out the simple mistake I'm making (if its 'using ubuntu' then fair enough, but I've never used linux before and wanted to make the transition as smooth as possible) Heres our setup: CPU: AMD Sempron 145 2.8GHz Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme 3 GPUs: Radeon 7950 x 4 RAM: Komputerbay 4Gb Power supply: Novatech Powerstation Black edition 1000W < Yeah we'll probably need more than this... Any help would be much appreciated

I sent the payment to this address: 13ubKX3YLmZ543PwAqxoemMsn5mUknrBnD
I don't expect this to help much, just thought it would be worth making it public.

I do understand the analogy with credit cards. I could use my card to obtain $20k. And the fact that bitcoins are not technically "on" my phone. But there is a difference. If I use my card and effectively import $20k in value, then the transaction will include any required fees and reporting. If I instead use my BTC to buy a $20k dollar car in Europe, then I should have reported it at the border, right? The tricky part is that while you don't have bitcoins with you, you do have the ability to spend them.
What if you compare to, say, an item in an online game? If you trade the virtual item for a real world item of some value, you have effectively imported that value without paying required fees or necessarily reporting. Has this been covered, or any legal precedent set?

In this post you explained that you are satisfied with simply taking one for the team so that others can benefit from the mistake (something I truly believed when I first came here too): I agree, the scam was pretty obvious. I actually think it was worth the cost just for the sake of this thread, if it prevents the same thing happening to any other newbies.
-Be vigilant
-Don't get complacent
-Always use escrow
In this post, you give the perfect reasoning behind others not learning from your lesson at all (e.g. they all think the same thing at first). What I can't get my head around is why these people even bother? This person registered in February, made the 5 posts required to get out of newbie section and then proceeded with his 'cunning plan'. Assuming that only two of us were stupid enough to send him any money he will have made what, a few hundred dollars? For less effort he could make twice that in a week conducting legitimate business...
I agree with your statement and feel the same, but most of these scammers cannot for whatever reason (age, legal status, criminal background, deformities) get a job or have an original thought. So long as there are people willing to ignore common sense and "take one for the team", there will be scammers coming here looking for suckers. Yeah, true. Well, lesson learnt. At least it wasn't too expensive...
