721  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 GH/s] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + UserDiff; ASIC tested on: May 17, 2013, 12:50:37 PM
I've been mining with 50Ghs for the 11th day now. Can you please evaluate the below log of earnings?

Today I switched from diff8 to 6 and I think the rewards are coming more frequently and in a steadier manner. I plan to run it on 6 to get some more days worth of data to compare.

Do you think I should set it lower?

the last record has 9 hours to go as of this post. I had no downtime, expect 2 occasions when the miners spent a few minutes offline
722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: What storage methods are resistant to hacking? on: May 11, 2013, 05:06:12 PM
Running a ubuntu live CD, install the bitcoin client.
Then copy the wallet.dat on a storage device, keep this safe and don't use this on another operating system.

Then, write down the bitcoin address and use that address for storing your bitcoins, you don't want to keep checking if they have been received via your ubuntu setup, because that will take a long time.

When you want to withdraw any bitcoins, then boot up your live cd once again, then withdraw like normal.
However don't use the wallet.dat on your computer without running a live cd.

I found that it might not the best alternative.

If you don't want restrictions / hassle, create a persistent live linux on a USB (knoppix supports it out of the box).

You can encrypt the file system too for added security.

Make sure to use a 16-32GB pendrive to have enough space for the blockchain.
723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 0.8.1 client not updating new blocks? (out of sync) on: May 11, 2013, 02:52:13 PM
I had the same problem.

I have deleted all the block related dat files and started the sync again, it seems that it syncs properly this time.

I also, set up an exclusion in the AV software (for bitcoin files and folders, and for the exe separately).

I'll report back if it completes the sync.

I have downloaded it from bitcoin.org, and it was 0.8.1. I assumed that is the latest version.

should I try the rc1?

in the mean time, it goes backwards...now it says last block was 18h ago.... arrgh
727  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Reindexing blocks on disk... on: May 11, 2013, 10:15:21 AM
I don't want to create a separate thread just yet.

My bitcoin qt client worked fine for years up until approx 16 hours ago.

My client is running 24/7. I left the PC working OK for the night and when I woke up it was syncing and at the moment it still does.

I ruled out networking issues, I updated the client to the latest available from bitcoin.org, I have 17 active connections.

It doesn't seem to be able to catch up with the blockchain, it seems to stuck at blocks 16h ago.

Can someone please help me?

While I was creating the screenshot it went back to 17h ago....wtf

What switch do you have?

If it's a basic, cheap one then it's very likely that it cannot keep up with multiple ports used at the same time.

As with other tech stuff, the lower end devices are usually not suitable for 24/7 use or high load.

DLink DGS 2208. I've already ordered a replacement, HP Procurve 1810-8G v2.

The D-Link works fine for saturating the gigabit link to my NAS, but it seems it can't keep up with the stratum protocol.

I have a procurve 1400 and it works fine. Smiley

99.3 and 99.1 to slush's via proxy, otherwise about 97 to getawork btcguild

Maybe I'm doing something wrong; anything look glaringly "oops" here?

https://i.imgur.com/DeKW8iH.png

When I start mine, it always starts with really low efficiency, I'd wait 30 minutes a few hours. it went up to about 97% for me

Ive been mining at bitparking and my backup is guild.

Tried a different location for the stratum proxy on the physical network, now I'm pulling 12.2 gh/s with 97%.

Here's how it was before: -> Miner - Router - Switch - Server with proxies
Now with a 7% increase: -> Miner - Router - Proxy Server

Thanks for taking the time to look at the problem. I'm sure something else will pop up though, it always does Cheesy

Are you retard or what?

There is one code(that includes both games) available to bid on

Didn't pay attention.

By the way, I won't ask you if you are a retard or not. I already know the answer ;-)

3rd attempt at mounting to reduce temps, ready for the new fans. This seems to be the approach most are taking, flat with a 1" gap underneath. This will be ventilated with the old 120mms once the new ones arrived.

Did you read this? https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VMO3VfIBy3KIwUaaQ8XhKrSVEbXeeMEqsVhhk6Bz9io/edit?pli=1

quote: "Please make it vertically placed if you could. The chips are packaged via QFN, but not all the heat are absorbed by the PCB. The back side will also become hot. And if you have no mechanical setting to lift it and have to lay it on the supporting table, please make sure that there are no heat isolation material under it."

Why did no one read what I actually posted :/  "flat with a 1" gap underneath."

The gap still traps the hot air without any ventillation.

It's easy to mount it on it's edge (again, check lightbox's comments) and you can easily create an air channel, using cardboard or plastic.

here's a crappy sketch: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8310142/cooling.png

That was my initial config and it wasn't even close to sufficient because of the inability to force the fans onto the heatsinks. There is actually quite strong airflow underneath and the mini fans on the side blow under there. Because its quite a confined area a small amount of conventional airflow pushes all the way through as there is no where for the pressure to escape.

I can feel the flow underneath and its as strong as when it was standing. I'll check underneath temps and temps of the box walls etc after 4 hours of uptime.

I hope you get it right

happy mining

As it has been said before, this approach is the worst, because the fans are just circulating the heat around the blade. The goal is to transfer the heat from around the blade.

I wonder what backup pools would you guys recommend?

Currently, I'm using slush which I found reliable from my gpu mining days and still very happy with it.

As far as I understand the miners would automatically switch to the secondary pool if the primary goes down. Is that correct?

I have some very wealthy friends, most of them are completely disconnected from reality though.

The few of them who still have some common sense liked the idea very much, and bought some just for fun.
739  Economy / Auctions / Re: ASICMINER Auction: 50 Block Erupter Blades CHECK OP FOR PAYMENT on: May 08, 2013, 09:37:35 PM
For the owners with overheating problems. Don't concentrate your fans directly on the heatsink of each blade. Try to create an "air channel" placing fans in push and pull configuration. in my experience it's a lot better.

It's easy to mount the blades vertically using the method shown by lightbox.

I'm cooling 4 blades with 1x180mm fan and 2x120mm, without heat problems. It's important to have the hot air removed from the room as well.

the first 24h completed, it did 3.96 so 0.99 / blade.

Which pool is this on? Seems like some really good luck?
