E415 you can choose "Bitcoin-qt" only if you are an expert, you know such to think backup after every "send" transaction and else, however if you want only the simplicity so just choose "Multibit" .

Yes Apothesoft you need an account to start trading BTC in order to sign up, not necessarily at Coinbase, once finished these steps you will need to send some fiat into the account then you can ask for a withdraw and finally you don't need to care about the IRS thingy but you can still asked them for more specific information Grin
