Darkcoin also resistant to multipool.
This is a very important quality which have to be declared at the title of the topic and on the website.

The fact that its diff algorithm really help with that too
A completely newbie question here, but can anyone explain please what a multipool is, and in what way it differs from a 'regular' pool, and why it is important/relevant to be resistant to it?
If I do not understand these fundamentals, I expect that many average joes will not understand such titles either. thank you.

Multipools hop between coins and mine the most profitable one at any given time. The idea is to sell for BTC.

The trouble comes about because they're huge (10+ GH/s) and when they hop onto a tiny coin, the difficulty spikes for that coin. Difficulty is how long it takes to solve blocks, i.e. make the network progress over time. Eventually the multipool hops to another coin and leaves the old coin with a huge difficulty. The small mining community has a hard time progressing and is basically "stuck".

Just found the last of the dumpers drk. Its sitting at .00145 @ cryptsy. ~27 btc.

Yup, we need to:

(1) eat through that wall
(2) get up hashrate

.. in order to get up to a fair value. Get buyin' and minin'. At current awareness levels, DRK should be around VTC in market cap.

Woot, title change! Only downside is that ASIC resistant is gone. Sad I'd still take that over KGW under limited space. After all, the ASIC resistance derives from the algo, which already protects us from multipools (though KGW is still nice for responsiveness).
724  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | Anonymous (alpha) | KGW | No Premine | ASIC Resistant on: March 01, 2014, 04:59:56 AM
How do we get the word out about DarkSend going to beta?

Title change should be enough.

[ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | Truly Anonymous (DarkSend) | KGW | No Premine | ASIC Resistant

going off topic, and being a coward on top of that, LOL, I was wondering if anyone knows about icoin.  They advertise "Transactions occur anonymously, and are confirmed through a decentralized peer-to-peer public ledger. The only set of eyeballs on your wallet are your own. " yet, skimming through their thread, I see nothing about how they make the transactions anonymous.  They are wonderful about self promotion, though!  We could use some great people like that here.

Anyway, I'm a coward because I don't want to ask on their thread, 'cause I might get flamed  Lips sealed  Tongue

As far as I can tell, it's "anonymous" in the same sense that Bitcoin is anonymous. Your public address isn't attached explicitly tied to your real identity.

This seems to be a generic scrypt clone, just with clean, professional marketing.

The big pump and dump going on.  Who's going to be left holding the bag?

Never understood why people buy when they see the price rocket up.

People buy because they think the rocket's taking off. And sometimes they're right. I got into DOGE a few days before the Jamaican bobsled thing caused a 5x price rise. It eventually came down to "only" 3x the previous price but there's basically zero prospect of it going back down to the previous stable price. That's because the bobsled fundraiser was a fundamental event for DOGE despite all the shit it gets from everyone.

Likewise, I think Darksend going to beta may be a fundamental event in DRK's history. I could be utterly, hilariously wrong in retrospect -- such is the nature of crypto markets. But I'll take my chances. Tongue

I played my part in this "pump" and I intend to hold. My time frame is months so I wouldn't care much if it crashed tomorrow.

Crap, I'm still waiting for my BTC to buy DRK. Late the party again...

Me too, we can nervously hold eachother's hands through the next few days.... and weep on each other's shoulders when the bitcoins clear and the darkcoins cost a fortune  Cry
Coinbase is truly garbage. Bought on Feb. 25 but it's to be "delivered" by Mar 3. This is apparently 4 days according to their math. And the rationale is that they're waiting for money from my bank when I can see that it was gone from my bank days ago.

DarkCoin is what bitcoin should have been. Some might call it "Bitcoin 2.0" but would do better by saying:
"DarkCoin is digital cash."

+1

But that's why I think its better to call it D-coin or something else (not related to dark)
New people will think that darkcoin is related to illegal things and thats not the intention, idea of it. Maybe it will scare/put off (I don't know the right word) some people...No?

I tend to agree with this.  The name itself will be the reason darkcoin is never widely accepted by, er, "normal" people (also can't think of the right word sorry).  It doesn't matter how great it is, give it a shady or evil sounding name and it's doomed.

Yeah, I do think the name exerts a drag on adoption. I was dismissive of DRK for a while for this reason and only came around after reading through this thread. But most people won't put in that effort.

Checkout the work-in-progress website! It's really coming along

http://darkcoin.us/io/
Looking great. Some comments on this current state:

1. Logo should be more prominent somewhere, not just the little substitute for the D up in the top left.
2. Yellow highlighting and links doesn't look good among all the cooler color temperatures. Underlining or a background box upon hovering works. Light orange is better with blue if it needs to be a color. See this example from our corporate overlords for a blue/white website: http://www.mckinsey.com/insights
3. First image is negative and it's very busy/distracting with the white-on-white.
4. The favicon is a G for some reason.

Yeah, I just wanted to do something fun and different that might, maybe be a true anonymous altcoin... But it looks like a dead project...

If this is your definition of "dead" for a 1 month old coin, then Bitcoin died back in 2009. Tongue

So where's the proof that this actually exists?

eduffield,

I noticed you took ASIC-resistant out of the title. It's what attracted me here and, IMO, it should be kept there at all times and is the second most important feature of DRK. Certainly more than KGW, which is becoming common nowadays. VTC has shown that there's a demand for ASIC-resistance so DRK might as well advertise it.
734  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | DarkSend (exciting new feature) | KGW | No Premine on: February 26, 2014, 08:05:15 PM

1. well done.
2. imho we darkcoin needs a 'standard' press-release template (all pr same font, size, headers, etc.)
also, every press release needs to end with 'about darkcoin'. it is standard practice.

###

About Darkcoin

3. I think it's time we open a wikipedia title for darkcoin. If we want to get coverage by media, bloggers, etc. there needs to be an external source of info about darkcoin (beyond what the site says about itself). Wikipedia can be a good start.

my 2 cents.

Careful, wikipedians who watch crypto have a strong notability criteria and WILL delete anything that has a small market cap or wasn't mentioned in mainstream press. It's better to do this after DRK takes off from DarkSend usage.
735  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PREMINE - What's happening on: February 26, 2014, 07:47:24 PM
All premine coins are garbage. There haven't been any exceptions to date. I've only ever mined them to dump and buy real coins with innovation. Currently, all these shitcoins are just an agreed-upon pump and dump game. Some win, some lose. But everyone's convinced themselves that they'll be on winning side. Cognitive biases are funny.

The market will learn over the course of a year, I think. This is a transient phase. The idea itself is just comedy. Something is supposed to become a universally accepted exchange medium, yet 1 guy starts with something on the order of 1% of the total supply? LOL. Even the USD, with all its inequality, doesn't have that.

Anyone else having a problem with the Mac wallet?  Mine wont open, keeps quitting unexpectedly as soon as I click to open it.

Doesn't work for me either. Is this a known issue, anyone?

I've only used the Mac wallet and have no issues. OSX 10.9.1.

What happened to darkcoin's price on coinmarketcap?

It's averaging Poloniex ($1.09) and C-CEX ($0.14). Poloniex is the correct market price, I don't know what's going on with C-CEX.

The only idiots in here are the "I told you so people". The only thing this accomplishes is justifying the act of scamming people. You people *think* he's scammed people, but you're saying it as if it's a matter of fact.

All we can do is wait and hope he at least pays out everyone 1:1. coin2x's IP is in California, and they just passed legislation which makes cryptocurrency a legal tender. If this website turns out to be a scam, it is no different than if he were to use USD.

If this guy runs, he made out with over 200BTC. We will have to make sure California makes an example out of him. Anti-crypto people in the media and gov't would LOVE a story like this.

Dear god, every non-retard KNEW it was a scam going in. I mean, really? Do nothing and get 2x payout? Were you born yesterday? By depositing, everyone has consented to the scam. Let's be blunt: you don't have a problem with Ponzi schemes or you would've never deposited. Rather, you have a problem with finding yourself at the bottom of the Ponzi pyramid rather than an early "investor".

In terms of morals and motivation, you and the head scammer have a lot more in common than you think. After all, you were attempting to scam the next investor below you in the pyramid. But you failed, and that's what you're REALLY bitter about. Too bad, so sad. Cheesy

Yeah, good luck getting California to "make an example" of him. Talk like that is the hallmark of impotence.

take it as life experience

I want to emphasize this. This was gambling, not investing. It's clear several people gambled more than they're comfortable losing based on the panic here. Hey, I put in 40k DOGE (~$50) and you don't see me panicking. It wasn't much relative to my stash so as far as I'm concerned, it was fun for what it was. (But still wishing I wasn't minutes away from payout!)

Just look on the bright side: on the next ponzi, you'll deposit less, having learned this lesson. Smiley The more risk-averse among you might even stay away entirely.
