381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures - CPU only on: May 03, 2014, 05:14:45 PM
When binaries are updated, can you please add the date in the OP also? So we can check easily if we have the latest version running

Good idea. We also really need a version numbering system.

Important!

We have a pool bounty going. As you've probably noticed, network hashrate is going up. When the 32-bit code is merged in, it'll go even higher. Solo mining outcomes will then be pretty random.

tacotime has a dev who will work on an open source pool implementation for a bounty. See this topic/post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=589533.msg6520464#msg6520464
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bounty for open source ByteCoin/Monero pool on: May 03, 2014, 08:47:23 AM
Had a conversation with zone117x on freenode. This is the target of $2500 (~5.5 BTC) for him to work on this: https://www.bountysource.com/issues/1967409-support-for-cryptonight-algo-based-coins

Our current 5000 MRO is valued at ~1.8 BTC at 0.000360 BTC/MRO (recent trades). I've contacted DStrange who's handling the BCN bounties about combining the funds. Since they stand to benefit, they should contribute as well.

They've already collected into BCN and BTC addresses. tacotime, please set up an MRO collection address.

Please replace mine with 5000 at 0.000360 (1.8 BTC, willing to do partial).

By the way, link in the OP to the MRO thread should be updated.
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures - CPU only on: May 03, 2014, 07:24:25 AM
I'm trying to install Monero on a 1GB digitalocean VPS. I've followed all the instructions from here:
http://monero.cc/getting-started#linux-tutorial

When I try and run 'make'  I get this error output which indicates that my VPS  'CPU you selected does not support x86-64 instruction set'

Does that mean 1GB digitalocean has too weak a CPU to even experiment with?

The VPS is probably 32-bit. The current MRO code only supports 64-bit architecture. Tomorrow tacotime will try merging the latest BCN commits into MRO. This will allow a 32-bit system to run MRO/CryptoNote. Try again after the newest build is up (probably this weekend).

On another note: a 512 MB VM will fail to compile but can probably run the binaries. I'm not sure about 1 GB VMs.

400 MRO.

Now over 5000. Smiley

Is your bitmonerod program still downloading the blockchain? Has it said synchronized ok?
Yes, I downloaded https://mega.co.nz/#!WVZ2RZwI!um6D8jSVw618P6NmgQeLtrkB1dUJXIjcpylIjO-P7sk
And place in %AppData%/bitmonero
What I have not done? Thank you in advance for your help

That's 3 days behind so you may need to wait longer to sync up to the present time. When the sync is finished, there will be a bunch of green text saying SYNCHRONIZED OK. We're currently at block 22160. To check how far you've synced, type print_block 50000 (or any number larger than the current block) in the bitmonerod terminal (not the wallet).

I'll update the blockchain uploads tomorrow.
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [HP] Name contest for HoneyPenny. on: May 03, 2014, 04:29:49 AM
I think you should keep HoneyPenny. The only name with the gravitas to replace it would be HonnierPenny.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MRO Monero trading thread and OTC xchg (bid 36 ask 40 last 35) on: May 03, 2014, 12:24:11 AM
Is there a website where I can see the value of this "coin"? What if you buy 1000 Monero for 1 BTC and the value ends up at 100 sat per Monero..

This is the value of the coin.  Soon BCN and this coin will be at major exchanges, and then we'll really see things move.

It's too risky to set a price to 25k sat when you don't know the wants and the demand of the coin Smiley

Sure we do. This thread is a market: we have an order book that shows a supply-demand crossover point that sets the price. This is no different from a "real" exchange like Cryptsy/MintPal etc. except for the inconvenience.

The best guess for starting price when we do get on an exchange would be the current price from here.

What are the odds that Litecoin seriously considers taking on the DarkSend open source code and adding it to LTC?

No chance. LTC devs wouldn't hard fork except for an emergency. Their explicitly stated philosophy is to offer small improvements over BTC.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 02, 2014, 03:12:15 PM

What does trustless mean anyway?

Sure were're not trusting the masternodes not to take all of our coins (which is awesome), but we ARE trusting them not to record who is paying who. Of course this concern is eased if we mix with multiple different master nodes, but I just wanted to point out that this word trustless is kind of prickly.

Wait, is this correct? The master nodes can keep logs and reconstruct the sender-receiver mapping? I agree that DRK needs multi-stage mixing if that's the case.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: BMR Bitmonero trading thread and OTC exchange on: May 02, 2014, 02:57:40 PM

hmmm...

I bought my coins so that I have a certain % of the total possible supply. So I will be affected in the end (I need to buy more)...

No, this is no longer going to be implemented after a vote showed the majority against it. But a minimum subsidy (i.e. a small inflation) may be implemented in the future to secure the blockchain ~8 years out.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MRO Monero trading thread and OTC xchg (bid 28.1 ask 45 last 30) on: May 02, 2014, 02:21:04 PM
Possible scammer? Are we handing out (Possible) Scammer tags to people now? Without even confirming anything? Without even sending a SINGLE pm and asking the reason for the delay? Can't we even wait for 24 hours before tagging someone a scammer? Can't we just wait as the person can be of a different timezone?

Delays happen, sometimes there are things beyond your control, for ex - Money deposited in exchange but doesnt show up for hours.

I have sent noodle his money btw - https://blockchain.info/tx/f11e612137a3415e94e5fd66b845ec58fb91b45bf5d55426773295268704d136

We need to do some investigation before pointing scam words at someone

As far as I understood, you were dealing with the seller in real time over IRC and then disappeared without notification soon after he sent. Oddly-timed delays in peer-to-peer trades are usually a bad sign. A disclaimer can simply be revoked but if someone else were to get scammed in the intervening 24 hours suggested, that damage can't be undone, so the responsible thing to do is to notify the forum.

Anyway, I apologize but given the entirely trust-based nature of peer-to-peer trading, clarity is a personal responsibility and no one is owed benefit of the doubt.

WTB 5000 for 1.5 BTC

Please update the OP

I assume this is in place of your previous order?
Quote
0.000175 / 2000 MRO / 0.35 / pandher

If not, let me know and I will put that one back as well.

Yep, all other orders void. Only one now

Possible scammer -- owes a seller (NoodleDoodle) 1.5 BTC. Don't deal with him until further notice.

edit: Settled. (Exchange had delayed processing.)
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures - CPU only on: May 02, 2014, 01:34:21 AM
That is normal. Just let it sync. You can type this to see the blocks as they come in.  Smiley

Code:
set_log 1

In his case the blockchain isn't synching at all (stuck at height 0). It's normal for some connections to fail, but here all of them do.

No sucyh directory =/

We can help you step-by-step on the freenode channel #monero.

Did we loose the boost 1.53 compatibility ?
After a git pull I can't compile any more on Ubuntu 14.04 !

Code:
CMake Error at /usr/share/cmake-2.8/Modules/FindBoost.cmake:1131 (message):
Unable to find the requested Boost libraries.

  Boost version: 1.53.0

  Boost include path: /usr/include

Could not find the following Boost libraries:

          boost_atomic

Some (but not all) of the required Boost libraries were found.  You may
need to install these additional Boost libraries.  Alternatively, set
BOOST_LIBRARYDIR to the directory containing Boost libraries or BOOST_ROOT
  to the location of Boost.
Call Stack (most recent call first):
  CMakeLists.txt:76 (find_package)

If you're using the community github repo (monero-project), I updated that file the other day to support mac; however, I didn't modify any lines relating to boost and it compiles over here on 13.10 OK.  So, try cloning the community repo instead.

Same error with the "community github repo" ie: https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero.git

boost_atomic doesn't exist in 1.53 version of boost, but was not used anyway in bitmonero.
But now it seems to be included, I don't know if it's used though.

Boost.Atomic does exist in 1.53: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_53_0/doc/html/. You might have a partial install of Boost.

Finally, thankyou. Id add this link to the first page if you can until Mega is sorted.

It's working now. For some reason just that file crapped out.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: May 01, 2014, 04:40:47 PM
Coin is highly unprofitable atm, I wonder why the difficulty still keeps going up

Expectation of a MUCH higher price in the future.  Although maybe still better to mine other coin and sell to buy DRK, not sure...

Yea, actually if you would just mine other thing and DRK you will actually be helping DRK by increasing value by buying.

Mining it makes no sense  Huh Huh Huh

I have to do X11 because of temperatures and no other X11 makes sense at the moment. Besides, my mining it reduces total supply a tiny bit because of the block reward formula. That raises price. Tongue
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - Anonymous Currency Based on Ring Signatures - CPU only on: May 01, 2014, 04:17:38 PM
^^ The other thing I should note is that this is pretty much alpha-level software and seems to break a lot.  For instance, I broke the network the first day or so making a large transaction because the mining code was messed up.  So don't be surprised if something weird occasionally happens (backup your wallets all the time, please).

Yup, get used to it, guys. Wink The reason everything else around here looks polished and works 100% of the time isn't because of great devs: it's because BTC and LTC struggled through a lot in the past.
