Gotta also remember that AMD is gunning for the GTX690, so heat be damned.  They'll find a way to be competitive with nVidia.  If that means beefier components, then so much the better for miners.
Well sometimes I wonder - Since ATI was bought by AMD I wonder if they are getting a bit more conservative. When's the last time anyone put an AMD processor in a no-compromises performance build?

AMD has conceded the no-bars-hold performance to Intel. However, I do consider their purchase of ATI to be one of the smartest things they've done.

GPUs are going to be more and more important as time goes on. Better graphics + OpenCL are going to be more important that anything else.

Just look at the success of their APU series. So what if the CPU part is 10% behind Intel - the GPU portion is 150% better, and at decent power consumption. And with AMD's push for more and more software to leverage OpenCL, it's all working in their favor.

So the future is to leverage GPU power for better performance. Intel can't do that because their GPUs suck balls, and arn't really getting better. Nvidia can't do that, because They only make GPUs. They might have the best drivers, but do they even make any chipsets anymore? They're only dealing with one part of the equation. This, in my mind, puts AMD and their APU development as the best candidate for future innovation.

Hokay. Sorry - Just something I was thinking about the other day. Tongue /rant

AMD has blown a superior hardware lead befire. Look at the Alpha acqusition and the development of the Athlon and Opteron and first to x64. They kicked the shiat out of Intel performance wise for a while.

Intel went back to the book and redid the whole design process and came back swinging, both with excellent new hardware and software optimizations.

I expect AMD to do the same here. They have an excellent hardware team that is hampered by poor software and driver development and poor general leadership.

look like this is the new longest block in "recent history"
The pool's hash rate is also the lowest it has been in "recent history"

The hashrate has been level since the end of May.

Did you try 12.1 ( custom install with no sdk/app ) with the 2.1 sdk install?

( check your power management. I'm betting one of the monitors is going to sleep and pre 11.10 you need dummy plugs or a live monitor at all times or the card turns off )

could you mine with it? probably. Do you have the expertise to write the driver and program a bitstream? doubtful.

Keep in mind the gtx680/690 was not the fully fledged kepler chip either. It was going going to be the midgrade chip. nvidia is holding out with higher grade faster parts because the 7970 wasn't the beast they thought it was going to be.

everything is down again this morning.

probably more likely that some idiot/kid/assembler used a tray of 7970 cores on 7950 boards

I'm on several >100% PPS pools.

On which pools are you on?

whoever is paying the most of course.
730  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 12, 2012, 11:33:05 AM
P2pool is an awesome concept. It just doesn't pay. I'm making ~9 btc per day PPS. That would take 4 blocks per day on p2pool.  Which when I was on was a really good day.  I consistently got 2.x btc per block as one of the top miners.
So your pool pays 4.25x better than p2pool? Where do I sign up?

Ha well lately it pays 10 times better. Lol. I'm on several >100% PPS pools. Look down. Projectx is paying 112-114%. That's paid 6.x btc per day. 6.7btc yesterday on 10gh. Half my stuff is there now.

Looks like Eligius is being DDOSed.  One of you wankers doing this to prove something? Cheesy

But Luke said.....

Lol. Not me I just got up. Ddos attacks are dumb. They should annoy tychno instead. Especially since they are the ones who hurt p2pool the most.

Life isn't like the movies. If you need your gun, much less two, you done farked up really bad.

Those are long pool hiccups, mostly from when the pool hops. ( this is a proxy pool hopper pool )
735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happened to Bitcoins being anonymous? on: June 12, 2012, 12:17:02 AM
The ip addresses are the nodes that relayed the transaction. Usually this means it's not you but the first "server" someone else is running that's connected to you. I've never even seen my subnet come up for any transaction I've done. And I'm on static class b ip.

Ip6 will be virtually impossible to track. You can generate a new ip to go along with a new address at will.

737  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 11, 2012, 02:43:02 AM
It's not average. If any one hits 125c it will throttle including a couple that don't report to gpuz or other monitors. the guy who designed the 5970 posted on some board a few years back and covered it all I'll try to find his posts.
738  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 11, 2012, 02:08:08 AM
Mine are 1.05v that's "stock". Most 5970 need 1.125 or higher to get over 900mhz. 5870 stock voltage is 1.162

The vrms fry at that voltage the 5870 is 4 phase the 5970 is 3 phase there too much leakage and they overheat.

And learned and the 6990 has the vrm split better and better cooled not sandwiched in the middle.
739  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: June 10, 2012, 10:24:30 PM
You are comparing apples and oranges. You need to look at btc per day or week.

The only real way to do that is to split mine both with the same mhash at the same time.

You should be making more on a pps. Slush is scored so shares aren't even. Try a pure pps pool.
740  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 10, 2012, 07:20:21 PM
According to the guy who designed the 5970 the vrms are safe to 150c and throttle over 125c. That's an internal reading unrelated to what you see in gpuz or other monitors however.

The stock heats sinks are far far better than the artics. The TIM they use is the best money can buy.  I have 2 article 5970 xtreme colers in my desk drawer. They are crap for the vrm. The back vrm is adequately cooled and has enough mass and surface area. The front vrm heat sink is a thin plate no surface area or cooling. There a huge empty spot under the front fan that should have been used with a similar setup as the rear or a heat pipe but was poorly designed.

Add to that the fact that if you over tighten the gpu x plates with the artic you'll kill DVI out. The artics are essentially worthless.

I get 10-20 c cooler vrm and within 10 c core with the stock coolers.

My 5970s run 900 core 300 memory stock voltage. The vrms stay just under 100c and the cores are 55c.  I get about 810 mhash per card.
