721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everyone has heard of bitcoin! (actually.. most still haven't) on: April 01, 2015, 08:55:28 PM
Everytime I pay for something I always ask if they take BTC.  Try it, see how many people ask you what the hell you are talking about.
Furthermore most of those people that actually have heard of it think there is some Bitcoin CEO..
Haha no wonder if crappy news sites produce such statements. Most people don't even read articles anymore, they just read catchy phrases and act like they actually know something.
The CEO of Bitcoin apparently died last year...

722  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Is it worth me buying mining hardware right now? on: March 31, 2015, 11:05:11 AM
I have managed to get a little BTC saved up to initially buy some mining hardware.

I was wondering though is it worth it right now? should I wait for new tech before I purchase?

Definitely no, better to buy BitCoins instead. With mining you would be relying in increasing prices to make a profit. But then you would be making an even bigger profit if you had bought the BitCoins.

Not true. With mining you are able to profit if the price stays the same, while when buying coins you are relying on it to increase.
You can definitely profit from mining, but as Amph has already mentioned, you need to check your prices per kWh. What's the temperature outside? Do you have a location to put the miner, as it will generate a lot of heat and noise?
723  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Has mining (vs. simply buying) ever been profitable? on: March 31, 2015, 10:56:49 AM
Mining is a different investment than buying, because you are betting on a different outcome. Think about it, if you calculate ROI, you count it for the current price, which means if the price stays the same you will still profit. At the same time if you buy Bitcoins you are aiming for the price increase, so if it stays the same you won't profit. It's really as simple as that, so we could say mining should be more profitable.
The downside is that when you have coins you can sell and invest somewhere else. When you mine you are in for the long run.

2. Not portable. Setting up my phone wallet is scary as hell and most certainly not close to mainstream yet.
Not that much complicated.
For us it isn't necessarily complicated, to OP it is though. And I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable if my mom suddenly declared she had started buying up bitcoins

<snip>

-nobody said you have to keep a lot of money in your phone wallet, just transfer some cash there every time you run out, just like you put cash in your real wallet when you go shopping.
-it's really easy if you pay by scanning qr codes, it's basically a 3s transaction (open the wallet, scan the code, confirm), if your mom can use a smartphone she'll have no problems with it.
-I'll repeat it again, installing a wallet is as easy as any other phone application. If you can't, don't buy a smartphone, you're wasting money.
725  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: new type of scam on: March 30, 2015, 08:18:14 PM
i think i will do something on this website..

as from now, i will open a new thread, and Hunt down scammers and potential scams and make a list...
What kind of hunting down are you talking about? You want to go and stand in front of their house with a "where's my money?" sign? Smiley
There were projects like that, but there's actually nothing you can do but for maybe doxing them and sending the information to the police.
726  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Why is no authority after btc-e.com? on: March 30, 2015, 08:14:52 PM
I can't believe you're happy that they are dodging the laws and remaining anonymous. Your praises will stop when you come upon an empty account and have noone to turn to. I hope it won't happen, but people actually start to like the law and authorities once they are in trouble.
I have nothing against Btc-e, but a bit of transparency never killed anyone.
727  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: If BTC/USD went to $0.00 tomorrow or diff = ∞ how would it affect you ? on: March 29, 2015, 07:01:21 PM
I bet the folks who bought in at $1100 a year and a half ago are pretty upset right about now.

Not many people did it, as the price peaked there. People just waited for others to go in, but nobody did and the dumping started. I also sincerely doubt any of those people are still holding, most probably sold at $800 or $700.

How would it affect me? $5000 down the drain, but I'm sure it won't happen. Cool
728  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [03-26-2015] Get Your Monthly Wage In Bitcoin Thanks To BitWage And Xapo on: March 29, 2015, 06:32:49 PM
I wish Bitcoin wages would become a standard, but they won't, at least for now. Just think about it. If you get your pay in Bitcoin you still can't buy all the groceries and pay bills with it, so you'll have to convert. By the time you move it to an exchange your money will be worth more or less than you should have gotten in fiat, because the price is constantly changing and you can't allow yourself to wait a month before the price goes back up. If it goes down a bit you will be forced to sell at a loss.
729  Other / Off-topic / Re: 7 Billion people on Earth & the exponential function on: March 29, 2015, 02:57:00 AM
As a matter of fact Earth could sustain twice the population we have now. The problem is in the borders, as some countries like Russia or Australia, are scarcely populated, while some like China are already overpopulated. If there were no borders and people would simply divide Earth by choosing the best places for farming, industry residential areas and so on we'd be fine.
730  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cloud mining / contracts - share your experience on: March 28, 2015, 10:42:27 PM
They might be legitimate (well, hashnest, I mean, for sure it's legit..), but I doubt you will roi soon enough (if at all..) with genesis-mining  Wink
But with genesis you can mine various coins and trade them for profit if you are lucky  Wink

So in other words it's a good investment... "if you are lucky" Cheesy Thanks but I'll pass.
Cloud mining operates on very small margins that can work in a stable economy, but this one is everything but stable.
731  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do you use PayPal to convert Bitcoins? on: March 28, 2015, 10:33:37 PM
No, I stay away from PayPal and advise others to boycott them. Their fees are pure theft and I don't agree with some of their policies. The sooner people stop using them, the better.
732  Other / Politics & Society / Re: School placed on lockdown after pack of girls start massive brawl on: March 28, 2015, 05:42:08 AM
"Planned brawls" (gang warfare), "lockdowns", schools sound more and more like prisons every day.

http://pics.blameitonthevoices.com/082011/school_vs_prison.jpg

Why do you suppose that is?

no shit. pretty soon we'll have one armed guard for every classroom.

That might actually help to prevent suicidal maniacs from killing everyone. Children are becoming more aggressive these days. Now a teacher has to be worried that on one hand he may be accused by the child of using physical force or molesting (even worse) and on the other can end up being attacked.

733  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [03-27-2015] Growing Interest In Bitcoin Functionality For Existing ATMs on: March 28, 2015, 05:31:37 AM
There was no significant run for the ATMs because there's still little things you can buy with Bitcoin. It's rather treated as novelty, something to check out and talk about at parties. Once you will be able to buy coins and use them to get a hot dog from a stand around the corner we'll start seeing lines in front of the ATMs.
734  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-25] Motherboard: PayBase Accused of Absconding with Customers' Money on: March 26, 2015, 09:49:16 PM
And the drama continues. How can you even compare some altcoin exchange, dealing in its own altcoin to Gox?

simple, Gox was the major force in the early beginnings that made BTCs rate fly through the roof, so from $10 to $1000 was mainly gox.   And on the other side of things, the downward performance of btc in 2014 was mainly gox.   2015 is the first real time gox is not a major part of the direction of btc

You haven't answered my question. We all know Gox was one of the main players in 2013... What's your point? How does it relate to an altcoin exchange that started small and ended even smaller?
735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin will fail, here's why on: March 26, 2015, 09:32:29 PM
Why are you wasting your last hours of life on Bitcointalk, a forum of a dead coin? You should be drinking, having sex, praying, or something.
Now run dear chicken, if your prophecy is true tomorrow you'll be a fried chicken.  Smiley

Tomorrow an astroid by the name ov: 2014-YB35 will hit the earth and all life as we know it will be obliterated.

Now I predict tomorrow this thread will either be deleted or in off-topic. Want to bet which of us is right?
736  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Generation Meh sponsored by such shows as Jersey Shore and the Kardashians on: March 26, 2015, 05:00:29 AM
There's even more to it. These "shows" are being bought by other countries that want to have their own version and the cancer spreads. I stopped watching TV years ago when they started doing this like 10 minute commercial breaks and repeating the same crap over and over. Why would I watch a movie or a series on TV if it takes 30 min longer because of all the breaks?
On the other hand maybe the population isn't getting dumber but we are getting old. Cheesy
737  Other / Meta / Re: Just remove signatures already. As in delete, disable, gone. on: March 26, 2015, 04:41:33 AM
Please find 10 Legendary Members that support ad sigs if you want to refute this.

Wow, are you really going to bring it up?
Let's wait a couple months until our current heroes reach legendary level and I'll find three times more.

Since all of you Legendaries had to register in 2012 or before, you had your opportunity to get cheap coins. I on the other hand haven't even heard the word Bitcoin in 2012, does that make me worse and not worthy of having a voice here? To me all forum members, regardless of their forum status are important, as long as they have something to add to the conversation.
If I had a chance to own Bitcoin in 2012 or early 2013 I wouldn't even bother with something as trivial as a sig campaign, so it's easy for you to preach from your high tower.

I'm sure you would find some legendaries with signatures if you wanted. I found 2 in the same thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=71158
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=29959

Another option is to have a signature like mine.

Just bitmixer and bit-x? You're missing a few. Wink
738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Looking for Bitcoin millionaires to appear in TV documentary on: March 26, 2015, 01:37:03 AM
Next week's headline:
"Bitcoin Millionaire Tied Up and Tortured For His Private Keys After Responding To TV Appearance Offer"

No doubt.

A person would have to be a fool to admit he has millions of dollars in unreversable currency to every scammer out there.

Actually if someone was planning a robbery, kidnapping or was generally up to no good, there's quite a few people to choose from. Take the Winklevi, Gavin or Roger Ver, not to mention scammers I would in fact like to see mugged and parted with their money. Mark Karpeles is happily taking a dump in his glass toilet in Tokyo and nobody dares to disturb him. Being a rich bitcoiner isn't that dangerous.

740  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Scotland to ban smoking in cars with children on: March 25, 2015, 11:34:59 PM
Would be better if they made a law that exempted children from prosecution for defending themselves against scumbags hotboxing them in captivity.
Great idea! Now think of all those middle aged people suing their elderly parents for lung damages they got inhaling smoke in the car. It's always better to prevent then repair the damages.

I agree with the smoking ban, it's unhealthy and some people are just ignorant and won't stop even if you ask them nicely. They have to be hit in their wallets to learn anything.
