7302  Other / Beginners & Help / For fucks sake, stop leaving your money on internet accounts on: June 12, 2013, 01:00:56 AM
While having a huge amount of cash stolen from someone is a bad thing and something I wouldn't which on anyone ( Except maybe central bankers ) I can't believe the computer illiterate people that are coming into these boards and the first thing they say is "I had money in an MTGOX or Blockchain wallet". Let me be perfectly clear, your money is never safe on an internet based account, anyone who claims it is is lying, putting your money on an internet account is the equivalent of leaving a pile of the stuff in your country's worst area in a back alley, it's going to go missing.

The only time your Bitcoins is at least safe from hackers is when you store it offline on a computer, me? If I had that much money lying around I'd only feel comfortable putting it on an entirely laptop entirely separate from my local network so that means disable your wireless while your at it too. I can understand people using a USB but I'd find that too easy to lose really but that's just me. Honestly as someone who at least has some knowledge about what not to do in order to stop people from getting you it seriously infuriates me that people are spamming away about hackers, it reminds me of stupid news articles that rant on about 'internet bullying' show some sense and do your research before you invest in Bitcoin.

. Exchange accounts are NOT bank accounts, only transfer small amounts through them and use it purely to sell or buy, not to store

. Don't let your chosen Bitcoin storage device ever connect to the internet except to do updates periodically

. Don't click suspicious links no matter how friendly they might seem, if you look up the website, chances are someone has already caught them

. Don't be stupid and angry at the same time, you don't have to learn hacking yourself but at least have the decency to ask how this sort of thing happens and do a google search before complaining here, most of the time someone is hacked because they forgot some very simple countermeasures or outright ignored them

. Don't be a computer illiterate moron, if you are someone who has hardly used a computer and hopped on the "Zomfg Bitcoin must get rich" train, learn how your computer works before you buy a large amount of Bitcoin and figure out how software like armoury works, again you don't need to be a programmer or hacker to know this stuff but I'm seeing people completely ignore the basics of understanding a computer.... Or a firewall..... Or common sense

7304  Other / Politics & Society / Re: PRISM - Who else is disgusted by this? on: June 11, 2013, 06:17:56 PM
do not trust statistics you didn't forge yourself  Smiley
ding ding!  The poll question was probably something like "When it comes to known baby-killing terrorists, should the government track their phone and internet activity?"

You also have to take into account when these morons use percentages is what the percentage is out of, I'm shit at percentages and this is the most classic trick they use, they'll usually take a poll of about 1000 people or something and then claim it's 'everybody' or in this case 'A percentage of all Americans' chances are most people are as outraged as you and the media is just trying to smooth it over.
7305  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What to do about PRISM surveillance. A practical advice. on: June 11, 2013, 04:51:52 PM
It depends, to avoid being tracked by most people? Use VPN or a similar service, usually the only time people would be able to find you through an internet connection is if they were particularly determined. What I do for instance is use a fake username like this that everyone can contact me on on the internet and keep my personal information separate, so even if I say, order something online, I use a different username to this one or use my real details and no one is going to know what I've been up to. Oh and if you really want to minimise your internet activity then of course Bitcoin is always an extremely good option, the only problem is not many normal services are accepting it just yet but as I've suggested in other threads you could buy Gold/Silver anonymously and then trade that in real life for cash.

As for PRISM? Like people are saying all over, it's the most hilariously flawed and fucked up surveillance program ever created, if it is automated, chances are you're going to have it setting off more false flags than an anti-virus on pirated software. There's that much information and communication out on the internet now it can and will fuck up systems like that so unless they're putting in a quantum computer then it won't be able to properly keep track of anything never mind an actual terrorist. This is probably going to be one of those programs that the U.S government will refuse to admit that it was wrong on until the bitter end knowing them.
7306  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the proper way to say Bitcoin? "Bitcoin" or "The Bitcoin"? on: June 11, 2013, 01:48:44 PM
Bitcoin is a noun or a name, so just treat it like that, saying something like "I would like to talk to you about this The Bitcoin thing" isn't going to make sense is it? Tongue
7307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How our governments are failing us buy not promoting bitcoin on: June 11, 2013, 01:03:48 PM
China is one of the few countries that actually know how an economy works which is why they're doing so well, if their government is as smart as I give them credit for then chances are they've probably already investigated the code themselves and realised it would be too much trouble to ban it.
7308  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Coding Thread on: June 11, 2013, 12:07:20 PM
You guys who are into game programming may like this, did some digging around and found this website http://code.google.com/p/gqe/, a lot of the sites are completely outdated but it looks this one at least has some 2.0 code, I downloaded pong to get me going! Smiley
7309  Other / Meta / Re: why dont the moderators care ? on: June 10, 2013, 10:35:10 PM
I don't like to ignore people because even people who get drunk and troll and insult others for fun sometimes make interesting, constructive posts the next day Smiley

Yeah, you just click the button again if you want to unignore them lol
7310  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Our $1 trillion chance on: June 10, 2013, 10:16:32 PM
Going from his last post I doubt he's going to listen Tongue
7311  Other / Meta / Re: why dont the moderators care ? on: June 10, 2013, 09:42:07 PM
There's an ignore function, use it, yes, freedom of speech of all kinds should be allowed, but equally you have the right to ignore what they say and don't have to read it, it's nothing to do with being lazy, it's called actually sticking with their beliefs and not being hypocrites, I have plenty of racists and stupid angry people on my ignore list here.
7312  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Our $1 trillion chance on: June 10, 2013, 09:22:05 PM
Pity and annoyance are two different things, I pity you because even if the tax loopholes did get closed the dollar would get so undervalued that trillion you're talking about would be worthless, go and study about inflation and the way central banks steal our wealth before you decide to go into tax the rich troll mode on me, you don't even seem to realise how the economy works. If you got your trillion all that would happen is the central banks would print more, devalue it and then force you to sell off your valuables to them at a massive discount.

This type of thing is the whole reason that a currency like Bitcoin was invented and why the gap between the rich and poor exists on such a massive scale.
7313  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Our $1 trillion chance on: June 10, 2013, 06:54:30 PM
I'm saying that the problem runs deeper than large corporations, but if you want to think like that and get annoyed at others for thinking differently go ahead.
7314  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Our $1 trillion chance on: June 10, 2013, 06:46:15 PM
You do realise that the reason everyone's poor isn't because of tax loopholes right? Fixing these problems is pointless if no one bothers to acknowledge that the paper money system is completely useless, I can't help but pity people who think like this Sad.
7315  Economy / Economics / Re: Keep it simple, and make some money, stupid on: June 10, 2013, 10:25:25 AM
It's a common problem with all digital products, if it's any comfort, you won't see me pull that kind of bullshit Smiley
7316  Other / Politics & Society / Re: PRISM - Who else is disgusted by this? on: June 10, 2013, 09:42:24 AM
Cheesy
7317  Other / Politics & Society / Re: PRISM - Who else is disgusted by this? on: June 10, 2013, 09:36:07 AM
While normally surveillance programs and stuff are pretty bad, this is the most hilarious one I've ever seen, no seriously, I'm really tempted to fuck with them, it's like a school teacher going on a power trip, there are just so many flaws with a system like this.
7318  Economy / Economics / Re: Is there anyone else that finds all the micro BTC terms confusing? on: June 10, 2013, 09:21:35 AM
Honestly? I ignore it, it's a system made up by people who know nothing about maths, the only time I ever see this system being openly used is on those Bitcoin faucets and so on and I think it's just a way to disguise how much they're giving you. There's nothing difficult about writing or understanding 0.00005 BTC, this is coming from someone who scored an F in Maths.

lol. If you think they're sifting through your stuff manually in any way you are being naive.

I can understand that way of thinking, but if you think about it if they have sense of due process left they're going to be forced to go through it if they want to arrest anyone, you can't just go and make shit up otherwise you'll end up getting arrested or sued no matter who you are and of course if worse comes to worse people are going to be after your head. The only way they could get away with not checking through the stuff their systems look at manually is by being blatantly illegal and then no one would go along with it, they're digging their own graves.
7320  Other / Off-topic / Re: Governments are Watching on: June 09, 2013, 12:20:26 PM
The thing is, I just laugh my head off at the thought of the government trying to track people on the internet, if I did ever got labelled a risk, imagine the poor sod who's going to have to go through all the porn I've downloaded Cheesy and it's going to be like that for every internet person they try to track.
