741  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It's official! Ben Lawsky will do a Reddit AMA on Bitcoin on: February 19, 2014, 01:03:07 AM
he sees the potential for innovation by the bitcoin protocol, that is a very good sign. I am with him at regulating the downfalls of cryptocurrencies (fraud and laundering).

Even his announcement to design the regulation process in an open source manner can be seen very very positive. I also think that he knows how far reaching his design of regulation will be. My biggest concern is how much influence he personally has on the design of the regulation
742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Krugman & Greenspan said: "Bitcoin is evil," and lacks "intrinsic value." on: February 19, 2014, 12:37:20 AM
arguing that keynesian economics is relying on guns is nothing but stupid. i almost spend all of my university career on postkeynesian/financial-keynesian economics. the pure school of keynes is nothing but an insight of how uncertainty is affecting an economy. i would pay shitloads to get keynes opinion on the bitcoin protocol, especially its potential to reduce uncertainty due to its deterministic structure.

krugman is neither a puppet, nor an idiot but he simply has as almost every economist parameters to rate something, which is totally fine. the problem with this article is that he has a total lack of the understanding of the protocol and in consequence is not capable of giving any estimations of the potential of bitcoin or the protocol in general. well he almost did the same with the internet.

he will regret this article when he understood what is behind bitcoin, maybe not on a macroeconomic level, but on a micro and mesoeconomic level.

Wow i just checked Google Maps and noticed that Canada is right next to the US of A.

So the USA might be the next one banning BTC? Roll Eyes Shocked Shocked Shocked

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

seriously are you paid for doing this?

if I get wealthy I contact you for spreading FUD in my interest
744  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 18, 2014, 11:13:31 PM
maybe it is a stupid question, but do you think something like this is possible?

instead of liking on facebook one could tip - if i remember correctly doge is trying to build something like that. there is a strong incentive for users to IMMEDIATELY adopt, because easily it brings (even if tiny) money

I think the gap between computer scientists and economists is large, probably andreas antonopoulus is closing it slowly, anyway.

I have an almost finished M.A. Thesis in economics and really think of writing a new one about the implementations of blockchain technology for economics.

Maybe it sounds ridiculous but (although impossible) satoshi would be the first pseudonym who gets a noble price in economics for this invention

746  Economy / Speculation / Re: bloomberg made me smile on: February 18, 2014, 02:41:00 PM
you can see in which maturity stage bitcoin is, watching this video. seriously i read a similar article in a well reputated local newspaper wondering if bitcoins cannot be duplicated or something.

andreas should start and promote a very broad explanation why digital scarcity is possible now. all the basic talk have to based on the invention of the blockchain, not on the bitcoin payment method.
747  Economy / Speculation / Re: Mt. Gox - To resume withdrawals Feb 20th - New ATH approaching on: February 18, 2014, 02:01:48 PM
never seen a market more stupid, seems to be easy money for smart investors/traders
748  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 18, 2014, 01:45:36 AM
Yes, I would like to have a donation address, I don't care if you burned 100 BTC already, you're getting more. Thanks.

they are using the donations for bounties
749  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 17, 2014, 04:39:30 PM
i think the following are the big mistakes this greedy community did:

1. You were all too greedy and tried to overprice this coin from the start
2. You should've waiting till a stable GUI client released before even thinking of launching on exchanges
3. No one bothered to donate to dev, so they r broke now
4. You got greedy

Yeah let us sell a running version of msc for half of the price.... oh wait. Xcp is an unshaved jewel and it is still early days
750  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 17, 2014, 02:24:39 PM
Guys

it is still ultra early days, but one thing we should keep in mind and adopt from other succesfull communities like nxt or even doge is that in order to be succesfull we need to

DONATE

I just reviewed the official donation adress 12J1YFvsWHDCU5HNAWNLNy1Q9nZo8Q4Xgs and saw that there is still only little donations.

When I burnt my BTC, I decided to give around 10% of my account for donation, I will do that for an entire year, so I send some XCP today for development. The next XCP I'll send in a month

IF EVERY BURNER SPENDS A LITTLE AMOUNT OF HIS BURNINGS TO DEVELOPMENT THIS WILL BE AN EXTREMELY SUCCESSFULL PROJECT, THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR THE GUYS LIKE ME WHO ARE NOT SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS

in a month or two the same holds true for the early adopters who buy some xcp now.

I think after all we have seen until now we can trust the developers, they did a great, almost perfect job until now and they are as well as most burners and early adopters interested in the long term success of the project.

DONATE 12J1YFvsWHDCU5HNAWNLNy1Q9nZo8Q4Xgs
751  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 17, 2014, 01:55:34 PM
The market decided that Nxt's Exchange is better than Mastercoin's or Counterparty's:

well I think they are for completely different purposes and I am happy that nxt and xcp are doing extremly well. It is still early days for nxt and very very early days for xcp.

but I think regarding competition, nxt is competing against btc and especially etherium whereas xcp is competing against mastercoin.
anyway I expect some kind of niching and they will do all (maybe except msc) well
752  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 16, 2014, 02:23:36 PM
our little whitepaper is crying for help Cheesy

http://wiki.nxtcrypto.org/wiki/Whitepaper:Nxt

I remember the discussion about whitepaper but I think there is exactly one person who has to write it and that is BCNEXT, translation etc can be done by community but the first whitepaper is hist job as it was satoshis job
753  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 16, 2014, 01:44:20 AM
We're coming for you MasterCoin...

Volume is far more important right now, in which case XCP has already surpassed MSC and is closing in on XRP.

exactly

scientific input:

not on the macroeconomic level as a currency

but on the mesoeconomic and microeconomic level on the INVENTION of the blockchain which is (practically) solving the byzantine general problem. Building a decentralized system which is not relying on trust is basically nothing but game changer in ecomic theory.
755  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 14, 2014, 03:41:15 PM

756  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 14, 2014, 02:56:36 PM
cityglut do we get screenshots of the web wallet this weekend?
757  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 14, 2014, 01:56:48 AM
I'll probably be hated for this post, but that is why a free market relying on trust does not work properly - maybe future with trustless p2p fiat/btc market solve this issue.

the decrease in prices is a joke. who is seriously selling now with the intention not to buy back immediately?
758  Economy / Speculation / Re: Where's all the optimists? on: February 14, 2014, 12:09:48 AM
mid term (probably even long term) perspective is nothing but brilliant
759  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 12, 2014, 10:36:04 PM
when xcp gets a webwallet it is definetely the most useful altcoin
