761  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Video Casino! New name, new game! Blackjack is here! [UPDATED 1/24/2013] on: January 24, 2013, 08:05:53 PM
Please provide as much feedback as you can!  We're eager to hear what everyone has to say.

I don't see the rules listed anywhere.

How many decks do you use?  How many times can I split?  Can I hit split aces?  Double any two cards?  Double after split?  Surrender?  Dealer hits soft 17?  Etc...

Sorry! We meant to put the rules out but it completley slipped my mind.  Here are the rules:

5 decks, shuffling before each deal
Split up to 3 times
Can not hit split aces
Can resplit aces
Can double on anything
Can double after split
Insurance is available
No surrender (yet, we just haven't implemented this. Do you think it's wanted?)
Dealer doesn't peek
Blackjack pays 3:2
Insurance pays 2:1

Congratulations to user 94be0cd6ff who gets to walk away today with a Jackpot of 22.36 BTC for hitting a Royal Flush betting 0.005 * 5 credits.

I hope we have many more winners in the near future!

Also, we also just hit our 200,000 Games Mark! Thank you to everyone who has played and helped us grow!

764  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Video Poker! 0.005 BTC credits are here! [UPDATED 1/6/2013] on: January 15, 2013, 11:28:56 AM
I have a stuck game.  I clicked "Draw" for a game and nothing happened.  The "Draw" button went blank, but 5 credits (at .005 per credit) were deducted.  I left, and a few minutes later, heard a deal happen.  The hand is 2c 5c Qd 5c Kh.  So I clicked to hold the kings, and hit Draw again.  Again, it froze.  Now, if I try to reload, it tells me I'll forfeit the bet by doing that.

I'm not sure what's up.  The site seems to be down, but I got dealt a hand.

Hey -- sorry that this happened to you.  It sounds to me like it was a simple network connection error.  Can you email admin@bitcoinvideopoker.com with the first 10 digits of your account id (or your player name) along with more details about what happened?

I went looking through the game log and didn't see anything suspicious but we may be able to work something out for you.  E-mail us and we'll get back to you asap.

I see there is a progressive for the RF now for 5 coin bets. At 4888 payout for the RF the game becomes 100% payout.

Only if you modify your playing strategy optimally, taking the size of the jackpot into account.

If you only know how to play optimally for a 4000 jackpot and always play that way then the pot has to reach 4921 before the game is expected to pay out 100%.

And if you're using the auto mode then it probably has to be even higher than that, since auto mode doesn't even play optimally when the pot is 4000.

1)  I'll get my hard core video poker associates to take a look at this and tell me:
1a)  when it's +EV to play for the progressive jackpot

and

1b) if auto-play is making the right holds and which ones, if any, are wrong.  I'm pretty sure I can find some differences between the holds I saw it make and wizard of odds strategy for 9/6 jacks or better.

will run some trials in a moment and try to find an example
It does not use the optimal strategy, it uses the basic one.

Hey guys -- just chiming in here.

Basically everything you guys have said is correct:

1. 4888 is the breakeven progressive jackpot, IF and only if you're playing optimally.

2. The autoplay bot does NOT play optimally, though according to Wizard of Odds, it plays very well -- 99.46%.

2.a. I don't think we're going to improve the autoplay algorithm because we plan on opening up the api for other players to write more autoplay bots.  Plus, if we wrote the most optimal strategy taking into account progressive jackpot sizes, that would take all the fun out of our site:)

3. Jacks or Better does offer the highest EV for the player.  We tried to pick paytables that were close enough to JoB, but we wanted JoB to be the main focus.

4. Congrats to whoever just landed the 4500 RF jackpot.

5. We've got some pretty big things coming up for everyone...stay tuned:)

Wow very nice site. I took you for a little bit after hitting quads. Need investors?  Grin I have seen mention of a progressive but where is this displayed? What are your long term goals for max limit?

Thanks, and good job:)

We've talked about investors before, but so far we've made no decisions on that front.

Long term betting limit? I don't know.  It'd be pretty cool to have 1 BTC games wouldn't it?
767  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Video Poker! 0.005 BTC credits are here! [UPDATED 1/6/2013] on: January 08, 2013, 06:50:16 AM
Do you mind sharing how the auto function works? Does it play perfect plays or was it crippled?

He already did:

What's going on here?  I was using the auto play feature, got dealt Ah 3d Tc 4h 2d and it auto-held and played the off-suit A234.

[...] I was already following that simple strategy you recommended [...]

The simple strategy I recommended was http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/jacks-or-better/9-6/simple/

Edit: so it isn't perfect, but it's pretty good.  It gets a 99.46% payout, whereas it's possible to get 99.54% if you play optimally.  Also, the size of the jackpot should affect your strategy, but the 'simple strategy' doesn't take that into account.  Finally, the 'simple strategy' assumes the royal flush payout is 800 times the bet, which isn't the case unless you play 5 chips at once.

That's correct, we use the strategy for choosing what to hold based on the information here:

http://wizardofodds.com/games/video-poker/strategy/jacks-or-better/9-6/simple/

The code for the decision process is here:

https://bitcoinvideopoker.com/static/poker.js

Search for the 'recommend_hold' method.

You are more than welcome to write a better autoplay bot Smiley  We'll be formalizing the service calls in the future which should make developing better autoplayers easier:)
768  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Video Poker! 0.005 BTC credits are here! [UPDATED 1/6/2013] on: January 07, 2013, 04:32:20 PM
You should consider opening API for the bots.

Hey!  Good thing you mention this.  We DO have plans to open up the platform for people to write their own playing bots.

That being said...there's nothing preventing anyone from issuing the service calls that the javascript frontend uses.  We certainly have no objections to anyone using bots to play our game.

So, since we plan on doing some refactoring and improvements to the API in the future, we're going to hold off on describing all the APIs formally, since we may be changing them....but do look for it:)

BTW, peerbet is pretty cool.  Nice job.  Consider making it not require registration:)
769  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Video Poker! Progressive Jackpots are here! [UPDATED 1/2/2013] on: January 06, 2013, 10:17:05 AM
Hey, I just want to let everyone know that we've just unlocked 0.005 BTC credits.  This means a RF would be worth 20 BTC if you're playing on 5 credit bets.
770  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcoin Video Poker! Progressive Jackpots are here! [UPDATED 1/2/2013] on: January 06, 2013, 04:06:16 AM
The top of the screen says there have been 3 royal flushes, but the "big wins" shows only 2.  Does this mean that the winner of the other royal flush tried to double it and lost?

Weird!  I just checked out the site and all 3 royal flush winners are there.  When did you take that screenshot?  We had some minor bug that wasn't getting all the correct data for leaderboards but we fixed that one yesterday.  Take another look and see if they're there for you.

I'm not seeing a deposit address:

Reloading the page didn't fix it.  Deleting the account_key from the URL did, since I guess that makes me a new account.

The broken account is:

  https://bitcoinvideopoker.com/?account_key=00c40a212ff24f1a36c29512906824b1

You can reproduce the error by visiting that URL.

I had the same problem and fixed it in the same way. The broken link is: https://bitcoinvideopoker.com/?account_key=38fccc279860a756404ed7f18f913992

This bug should be fixed now Smiley

Overall, VERY NICE interface. The best part about it are the sounds, which is something I really miss out on when playing at Bitzino. Along those lines, you should make the "you win" sound last longer for bigger wins, like it's taking longer for the game to count up all your credits or something. This will increase the excitement the player feels after they hit a big hand like a full house and then double it up. IF you go to a casino and play a "real" Jacks or Better game, you'll see what I mean right away.

I've passed on that suggestion to the other programmer.  I think we both have already decided to improve the winning sound, too.

Quote from: IveBeenBit
I agree it's annoying to keep checking back to see if my deposit has 2 confirmations yet. I hope you get that fixed soon.

Looks like this is really something you guys want, so we'll start looking at an implementation for it.

Quote from: IveBeenBit
What is the maximum bet that you anticipate that you'll allow after some more testing?

Well, we've been talking about unlocking 0.005 in a week or so.  After that, 0.01 a few more weeks later.  I can conceivably see us unlocking 1BTC games, but that is much further down the road:)

We just had someone win our first progressive jackpot.  The website has now had three royal flushes!

I actually had this same thought about this back when we were implementing it.  I'll bring the topic up again with the other programmer -- do you think that adding the 440 credits is important?

To be honest when I first did the math it ended up in a jackpot of 8000 credits, not 440.  Then spotted my mistake and fixed the maths.  I'm thinking the 440 credits isn't enough to make a difference, no.

You're right! This looks like a bug, but it's my fault.  I was already following that simple strategy you recommended and I considered A-2-3-4 to be an outside straight draw (because of the 5).  Obviously, that's silly now that I think about it, since odds of drawing that 5 is equal to drawing a 3 in a A-2-4-5 inside draw.  I'll fix this and put up a patch ASAP.

J-Q-K-A is similarly not an outside straight draw (just in case...)

Good call!  FWIW, the A-2-3-4 straight is fixed and live.

There are a few minor issues with queuing up your withdrawal: can you continue playing while waiting on a withdrawal?  do we need a system where you can cancel pending withdrawals?

I think you should treat it just like a regular withdrawal, but delay the payout until you feel it's safe to do so.  You instantly take the credits out of my account, so I can't play with them any more, and don't let me cancel the withdrawal.  Since you only seem to wait for 2 confirmations, it shouldn't take very long - 2 hours would be pretty unusual.

OK, I think the strategy will work.  I'll add it to our task list and discuss it out and if it's good to go, it'll be in the next update.

Here's an idea that should get you some extra traffic; I notice the site is pretty quiet at the moment...

Backdate the jackpot.

i.e. work out what the jackpot would be if you had been running a progressive pot since the site started.

When I looked in yesterday I think you had around 26000 games played and a jackpot of 4004 or so.
Now you have 37000 games played and a jackpot of 4134.
So each 11000 games adds about 130 to the pot.  (How does that work exactly?)
So 37000 games should have added around 440 to the pot.
So the pot should be 4440.  Hmm.  Not as big as I thought it would be.

That's very rough and ready, but having a larger jackpot as a one-off promotion should encourage more people to play, and not cost you very much.

Just a thought...

I actually had this same thought about this back when we were implementing it.  I'll bring the topic up again with the other programmer -- do you think that adding the 440 credits is important?

Hey!  Interesting.  Good find, I'll look into it.  I think I know what is causing this so it should be fixed shortly:)

When I tried to withdraw, it complained that my deposit wasn't confirmed yet:

It would be better if you accepted my request but waited for the deposit to confirm before paying out.  I don't mind waiting for the confirmation, but I don't want to have to remember to ask for it again in 10 minutes or however long it's going to take to confirm.  You could say something like "your withdrawal request will be processed as soon as your deposit has confirmed" so I know to expect a short delay.

There are a few minor issues with queuing up your withdrawal: can you continue playing while waiting on a withdrawal?  do we need a system where you can cancel pending withdrawals?

Either way -- I'll discuss the idea with the other programmer on the project.

When I tried to withdraw, it complained that my deposit wasn't confirmed yet:

It still tells me "Deposited Bitcoins have still not been confirmed. Please try again later." but now my deposit does have a confirmation.  If you're waiting for more than one confirmation, it would be good to say exactly how many I need to wait for.

Edit: I was able to cash out once my deposit had 2 confirmations.

Yup, sorry. It's 2 confirmations required to withdraw.  I'll update the text to say 2 confirmations:)

1)  awesome.  can't wait to play.   still no royal - I don't play much VP - what is Royal avg?  around 20k hands?

2)  3play / 5/50/100 play would be the nuts of course.  the usual alternate payout structures...

10 play dbl-dbl bonus with all differnet quads progressives 2-A with each being seeded with different amounts, i.e AAAA being the headshot (or 2222) sory if I'm not makign mjuch sense I have been up for ~ 4 days / just had my first kid / beautiful healthy daughter

1) I believe it's approximately every 35k, but that depends entirely on your play style to raise or lower that number

2) Check out the site now -- we have some new payout structures in the 5 new games we just added.

Congrats on the daughter!
