781  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin's price rise above $1000 because Trump was elected president? on: November 11, 2016, 09:38:53 PM
Stock markets are actually doing much better than predicted, so I don't think there will be a huge influx of dollars into Bitcoin.
Price may rise to $1000 eventually but there won't be any kind of spike unless there is some huge announcement.
If the stock market stays stable and Trump is actually able to reduce the national debt, the dollar could actually become stronger.
782  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why bitcoin prices rise in 2016? I think this is the cause. on: November 11, 2016, 06:32:19 PM
I agree.

I would also add that the US Presidential election played a very small part.
People being uncertain about the future of the stock market led to a slight increase in BTC purchase.

Now that Donald Trump won and the stock market seems to be doing okay,
price dropped a tiny bit as people realized the sky wasn't falling. (Yet)
783  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ethereum is dead ? on: November 11, 2016, 06:27:41 PM
I'm sure when Augur or some of the other projects related to Ethereum get closer to release there will be more interest.
Right now things are still cooling down from Zcash coming to market.
784  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just bought Bitcoin from a train ticket machine in Switzerland for a trip abroad on: November 11, 2016, 05:55:02 PM
This is a great idea.
Especially for people in Europe who may have to exchange one currency for another frequently,
Bitcoin is the perfect way to do this.
Since most people don't need the funds instantly, the transaction time should be acceptable.
785  Economy / Economics / Re: Gold and Silver Under the Trump Presidency on: November 11, 2016, 05:38:47 PM
Copper prices are up.
Large infrastructure projects have been one of Trumps main talking points recently.
There are people saying that the $500-700 billion roads/ bridges package Obama wanted to pass would be approved if Trump proposed it.
786  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM releases Android App on: November 11, 2016, 05:34:00 PM
30% price increase up to 780 satoshi.
I sold at 777, looking to rebuy close to 700. I'm pretty sure that's a stable price.
I do expect the price to reach 1000 in the coming weeks or months, though.

Anyone think XEM can hit $1 in the long term?
I would love to pick up a couple hundred thousand coins and have it hit a dollar or more.
787  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Short-selling Altcoins? on: November 11, 2016, 05:30:07 PM
Poloniex has margin trading and you can place stop orders so that's similar to short trading I guess.
Idk if any of the exchanges actually has implemented short selling.
788  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What is the best coin to buy on polo now? on: November 11, 2016, 04:42:20 PM
Stratis , Lisk, Waves, All theese coins will see x2+++ within 2017. Mark my words.

I agree.
I wish I got into Lisk and Waves earlier,
but I'm pretty new to altcoin trading.
I feel like both of these projects could get big.
I'll have to check out Stratis.
789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [REP] Augur speculation on: November 10, 2016, 11:06:55 PM
Up 15% back to the .007 mark.
(Probably based on the news from yesterday.)

Can REP reach .008 or will we drop over the next day or two?
790  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Legalization of Marijuana in US can BTC help sell weeds? on: November 10, 2016, 09:03:28 PM
Now that it is legal, bitcoin has no more role to play than it has in the sale of any other goods.
It might remove the middleman and save transaction costs, but nothing further.

Yeah if people are buying seeds or grow supplies online they may use a payment like Bitcoin,
but the transaction time is too long for in-store purchases.
People will just use cash/ credit card to buy cannabis in dispensaries.
791  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How long does it take now to generate a bitcoin? on: November 10, 2016, 06:11:31 PM
Are you talking about solo mining or pool mining?
http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/
https://99bitcoins.com/bitcoin-mining-calculator/
Most of the Bitcoin mining calculators show pool mining with 3.4Ths would generate-
1 day
0.00335776
$2.39

1 week
0.02350433
$16.77

2 weeks
0.04700867
$33.55

3 weeks
0.07051301
$50.33

1 month
0.10073287
$71.90

(That is before electricity costs.)
I'm not sure about solo mining your chance to hit a coin but I'm sure there is someone here who can provide the estimation.
792  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin transactions - Slow OR Fast on: November 10, 2016, 02:31:32 AM
Bitcoin transactions may be faster than a bank taking 3-4 business days,
but this discussion was (initially) about using Bitcoin in a retail store setting.

This one of Bitcoins biggest challenges in my opinion.
No store is going to accept BTC payments unless they have a confirmation time near instant, because customers simply will not wait.
Until this technical problem can be solved, we are forced to use outside companies to load BTC onto a credit card,
or a third-party app to perform some sort of confirmation or escrow.

Until Bitcoin can get almost instant transaction confirmation it will always need to be partnered with another tech when used for purchases in-person,
or be used only as an online payment system.
793  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: NVIDIA Adds Telemetry to Latest Drivers on: November 10, 2016, 02:03:15 AM
Wow I wish there was more information on the data this was collecting/ transmitting,
and any performance impact it might have. (Probably not a lot but its more junk loading at startup)
794  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which gambling sites have 0% house edge? on: November 10, 2016, 01:54:45 AM
Poker is the only game where the house doesn't have an edge.
You are betting against other players and the house makes money on the rake- percentage or fixed amount of each pot.

Any other game is going to be at least a few percent in favor of the house.
That's how they make money. No site is going to give you a game with even odds.
795  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: November 10, 2016, 12:18:29 AM
Unscrew the old boards from the heatsinks, screw new boards onto the heatsinks. The old controller won't be necessary, the new boards run off USB. Fans will jack directly into the boards.

Thats really cool.
I will definitely be interested in picking something up if they are available.
I had a ton of fun messing around with my Gecko mining sticks. Would be fun to do some more serious mining.
796  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is Bitcoin designed to last forever? on: November 10, 2016, 12:15:44 AM
For bitcoin to last more than another couple years, transaction times need to be greatly improved.
This is the biggest drawback currently, in my opinion.

If we can get fast transaction times Bitcoin will be around a long time.
If another cryptocurrency can come to market with similar features and provide near instant transaction times without relying on a third-party application, it would definitely have the potential to replace BTC as the top coin.
797  Economy / Speculation / Re: Trump being new POTUS - how it will affect Bitcoin in the long run? on: November 10, 2016, 12:12:59 AM
Short term- small bump.
Long term? Who knows.

Depends on the people he puts in his cabinet (supposedly a lot of CEOs, banking execs etc)
and the policies he puts in place.
Trump may be good for the US economy long term, if he can reduce debt and negotiate good trade deals.
A lot depends on the tax policies and the infrastructure projects he has proposed. (IMO)
798  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Announcing Bitcoin Black Friday 5. on: November 09, 2016, 11:39:57 PM
It's actually not a bad idea.
Giving people a reason to use Bitcoin (discounts, free shipping, etc)
could possibly create some new users.
Getting people who have never used BTC before interested is one of the main things we need to do if we want Bitcoin to grow.
799  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: TRUMP WINS on: November 09, 2016, 11:37:57 PM
People will pump Trump coin then dump it in a day or two.
If you have some I would suggest to get out quick.

Bitcoin went up 3% or so, I don't see it really moving much more until we hear more news on policies.
Trump might actually be good for the US economy long term if he can reduce debt and negotiate some good trade deals.
800  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Best cryptocurrency to invest for 2017 ? on: November 09, 2016, 11:34:27 PM
I'll gladly tell you for $50.
