Uh oh...
7862  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin be replaced by Litecoin? on: April 02, 2013, 02:44:19 PM
I don't see any reason why the two can't co-exist, it depends on how the developers of each will go forward really, as far as I'm concerned I think paper money is the only thing that's going to be taken over here.
7863  Bitcoin / Press / Re: BBC/NPR segment about bitcoins, reported by MY MOM on: April 02, 2013, 02:12:08 PM
My mum said she heard about Bitcoin on the radio too lol Tongue it seems to be getting well known.
7864  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Cyprus/Bitcoin connection is totally fake on: April 02, 2013, 02:10:44 PM
You forget that the Bitcoin client isn't exclusive to sourceforge.com, because it's open source people could easily save the install file and put it all over the net without any problems, that said though, I do see where you're coming from, this is a common problem when it comes to financial news, everyones trying to find an explanation for price rises and falls and they've picked the most obvious one they can find.
7865  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS - Frontier Space Manga, Digital Goods, Coming soon Jewellery! on: April 02, 2013, 11:36:32 AM
Blatant plug - Frontier Space being updated, now with a chatroom!

I've gotten things sorted out finally with my new host and so far everything seems to be working fine, I'd like to see some people turn up and use it now though Tongue I have a makeshift chat room up which will be public but I'm still keeping the forum invite only to keep out the spammers, if you want to get in either PM me here with the email you'd like to receive the invite code with or talk to me in the chat.

Here's the link: www.frontier-space.com/chat

You do not need a password to get in, you should just need to enter in the name and it will work, I don't know why it won't let public people register but I'll figure something out eventually, everything seems to be working fine now regardless, there really are no rules now as to what you can post on my website, just keep out the virus' and child pornography but I think for most of us that goes without saying.
7866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [VIDEO] - Bitcoin on CNBC 4:40pm EST April 1 on: April 02, 2013, 09:09:30 AM
I can't help but laugh at these people, can't take them seriously anymore Cheesy

The guy in the middle's face at the end was priceless and exactly what I do whenever I hear people talk about Bitcoin.
7867  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How valuable will 1 Bitcoin be 2 years from now? Make an educated guess. on: April 02, 2013, 08:13:38 AM
Such a guess can only be speculation and not an "educated" guess.

I disagree, someone who is far better than math at me could look at the current rate of printing going on as well as various political activities like Cyprus to make a very good educated guess on how much it's going to be worth in USD. As for the other currencies, it depends on what the other countries are planning, but they all seem desperate to hold onto power so they'll probably go the same way as the USD eventually.
7868  Other / Off-topic / Re: It's so purtee... on: April 01, 2013, 05:08:23 PM
Oh I like this idea a lot Cheesy I think I've seen google do something similar.
7869  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will Bitcoin hasten the collapse of the US dollar? on: March 31, 2013, 03:26:46 PM
The Dollar will collapse just fine on its own.

But, that will increase, or has increased the value of bitcoin.  We owe some gratitude to the policies of Central Bankers around the globe and lots of thanks should go out to the EU and the Governments of Europe (Thanks Germany.  Thanks for screwing Cyprus to bail out Greece!)

Bitcoin:  How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love The Fed.

Every nuclear fallout cloud has a glowing silver green lining.

Fixed that for you Wink Cheesy
7870  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Encouraging people to spend a deflationary currency. on: March 31, 2013, 03:17:16 PM
This argument has been going around in circles for.... Well, It's probably going to carry on for years when you look at the hardcore neo-Keynesians that troll here. When paper money drops in value like a rock ( and it will ) because of hyperinflation it's going to be much easier for people to spend Bitcoins on stuff. You already have places like Bitspend that specialise in letting you purchase goods in Bitcoin without needing to convert the money to paper currencies so I wouldn't be surprised if the opposite service comes along. The reason it's expensive for customers to shop at Bitcoin store is because they don't earn any Bitcoins, if they accepted them and diversified like the merchants do then they would be better off, paper money is drastically losing it's purchasing power in the face of currencies like Bitcoin which is why it appears so expensive to buy anything that is exclusive to the virtual currency.

So please, enough with the alarmist hyperbole already, I'm getting tired of seeing it spammed everywhere, it's like I'm watching television again.
7871  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: WTB 1 - 1.5 Bitcoin UK on: March 31, 2013, 01:03:19 PM
You won't get many sell offers if you plan on using Paypal because of the amount of scammers that operate on that payment system, have you tried https://localbitcoins.com/? That seems to be the place people recommend for anyone in the UK for now, you should be aware though, it's going to get awfully expensive in the coming months for people who want to buy Bitcoins in paper currency.
7872  Economy / Economics / Re: [POLL] What percentage are you in for the long term? on: March 31, 2013, 12:48:03 PM
90% for me, the rest of what I earn is going to go into Gold/Silver bars Cheesy
7873  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt Gox email spoof...don't fall for it on: March 30, 2013, 08:58:24 PM
It's good you're warning people but phew it amazes me the scams and such Bitcoin people are falling for these days lol >_> it should be common knowledge now that all these companies already have your details and can do whatever they need to do right from their own computers.
7874  Economy / Economics / Re: Article Discrediting Bitcoin on: March 30, 2013, 11:52:24 AM
It's a long read, but I'm interested in hearing some of the community's opinions on it.

Personally, I think Bitcoin is a variation on a Ponzi scheme but I do't think this author has written anything that is worthy of consideration.

He is so stuck in understanding and explaining his own citations that he can't make up his mind what is he really trying to say.

That's what I think when glancing through this article, honestly, from what I read he doesn't seem to be all that against it, but he does seem to have a lot of questions and confusions about it. The people I've seen who are outright against it though are usually against it not because of it threatening what they've invested but because of what Bitcoin actually is. A working example of decentralised money scares the hell out of neo-Keynesians because it directly challenges their own reality and view on how an economy should be run if at all. I suspect seeing Bitcoin grow and over-take their beliefs will cause them to react in ways as if aliens had decided to openly visit the planet.

I suppose it's a bit like if those stupid Christian fanatics ever saw a homosexual couple living happily with children, that sort of thing, people who are rigidly set in their beliefs and/or are old don't like it when their world views get openly challenged with a real life example before their eyes.
7875  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Barriers to Access for the Average Joe on: March 30, 2013, 10:17:52 AM
LOL Tongue While I can agree with what you've had in mind even on this forum I see people posting the same questions who obviously haven't bothered even glancing around at stickies or anything so whether or not getting a list works is in open question realistically. I'm not a programmer, I'm an artist mainly and I have absolutely no idea about encryption or anything of the sort beyond their definitions and what they're used for, what I found was that the basic way you use Bitcoin, sending transactions and buying stuff. Was the easiest thing I had ever done in my life and it was pretty much what converted me from using a bank account.

When it comes to putting a password on your client that's pretty easy too so I don't understand why there would be a huge fuss about it, but what always gets me are the explanations for storing your Bitcoins offline and solo mining instructions/troubleshooting ( which of course the rabble crowd here refuses to tell you about because it isn't profitable despite you not wanting to do it for profit ) are the main ones I can think of with regards to user friendliness.
7876  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Confiscation Scheme Planned for US and UK Depositors on: March 30, 2013, 10:09:01 AM
Suckers, all they're doing is encouraging people to get into Bitcoin faster.
7877  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: who is the main admin to this site? on: March 30, 2013, 03:51:32 AM
Must resist... Making satirical comments about OP's mental state.....

But if you're serious yeah Theymos Tongue
7878  Other / Meta / Re: Influx of idiots. on: March 29, 2013, 11:18:20 PM
SOMEONE HAS AN OPINION I DON'T AGREE WITH SO LETS BAN OR RESTRICT THEIR ACCOUNTS! BOOOOOOOOO!

Look I find these idiots as annoying as anyone, but the ignore function exists for a reason, you sound like those morons I see on corporate media ranting on about 'bullies' when there's a block function right fucking there on the profile page when you click the cog icon on the message button. Ever since I've had to deal with real stalkers/trolls I've refused to take part in any social medium that doesn't provide a properly working ignore/block function because otherwise you'll be spammed off the place since these people truly have no lives.

Take a stand, only support social networking that provides complete anti-spam features and respects your privacy.... Maybe I should found a political group based on it but I bet someone has already done it Cheesy
7879  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bitcoin developers forgot where they came from, let's refresh their memory! on: March 29, 2013, 05:58:39 PM
If you think you can do better then make an alternative currency and show us, this is what open source is about.
7880  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bhutan on: March 29, 2013, 12:33:07 PM
Oh don't worry, I doubt he's from around the world, probably just from America Tongue
