I can't believe SJW rot has infiltrated Bitcoin Core, to the point they ACKED a merge to change "blacklist" to "blocklist".

For Bitcoin.

A blockchain.

The WO is a huge and (arguably) historic thread with millions of views.

Personally, I see it as the beating heart of the forum.  Yes it is populated by the OG bitcoiners, people who have been around for years, been through the crypto winters and hung on through rain and shine.  For many people it is the best old school bar in town.  Sometimes they let off steam, sometimes soak up the heat for everyone with a quip.

Old warriors who have seen it all are indeed scathing of those who have yet to learn, but it is also the place where news often surfaces first, and where the mood of the entire community of the forum is displayed.  The memes can encapsulate the mood, the jokes offer gallows humour when things are grim.  It is welcoming of new members who 'get it' and gives short shrift to those who don't.

There are indeed a lot of merit sources there, inevitably they are people who are always checking in on the WO - for many who have been around a long time the WO is their home page.  Sources do have to use merits (or lose them) and it is entirely up to them where they send them.

It will not change and personally I don't think it should.  It is an open and tough debating forum - yes, with humour and chat.  But if you look closely there is much to learn.

I did.

Congratulations Toxic, about time..!
85  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 26, 2020, 02:56:17 PM
Anyone observing the er... price? Wink

Yep.

currently $11501USD/$15166CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

 Cool

Edit: Just to nitpick, I should point out that this thread is about observing bid/ask walls not the price.  Angry

I should have known better, Jimbo - I will get my coat...

(actually, unlike days of yore, the thread title does mention 'price movement' but it's still called the WO, yep. Not that I can remember the last time an actual wall was mentioned Wink )

btw...where is judgement cat sitting on the kitchen table?   meow?

you mean my boss, the avatar cat?

he passed on. Sad seeing him on the forum was bumming me out so he now lives on in my memories. although xhomerx work is so good i printed it out and have it hanging on the wall along with my other feline companions ive had the honor of being companions of over the years.

thank you again xhomerx, your work will forever be displayed in a place of honor.

not having an avatar matches the empty spot in my heart so it seems appropriate to leave it this way for now.

Sorry for your loss, vapourminer.

Nice to have you up where you belong d_eddie.

Congrats!

I think owning a whole bitcoin, whatever happens, is still solid advice.

Word.

It's managing to stay up back over .008, I think that says something.  As the big beast rises back up again, Monero will too but I also think it will continue to increase in value against BTC.

My gut feeling is that we will not be unhappy with where XMR is by the month end and into Sept.

Beyond that things are difficult to call as I think Bitcoin has been going through faster, then slower blocks and difficulty weirdness.  This will settle, though. The test of the mid $11K range was a little odd and it should be back pretty quickly to a better price.  Too much is going on that is positive for Bitcoin right now, no one bar the miners are selling.  Who the hell wants to cash out, or even spend Bitcoin right now?  It can't stay at this level for long.

We will just have to wait and see, but short term it's looking good and for now XMR should ride it well.
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 22, 2020, 09:22:56 AM
In the past when we see these sorts of big moves they tend to get smacked back down into the sub 8 range.

*sigh* lol.

Yup... Bitcoin as always dictates the market.  Sub $11,500 was a bit 'ouch' but normal service will be resumed soon.
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 21, 2020, 08:39:16 PM
Right now it's a bit more than 3.75% in the past 24 hours, closer to 10% in fact.

I stand corrected. And impressed  Smiley

And that is a rise against BTC.  If XMR/BTC can just get up into middling historic levels, say the mid teens - and Bitcoin has the year most expect in 2021, then in USD terms, 10X is plausible.

I care only about XMR/BTC. But I understand your point.

What's the exchange to watch these days?  2 year break, and it seems crypto didn't sit still.  I mean, other than the fiat price of monero.

Afaik Binance has the bigger share of the volumes. https://www.worldcoinindex.com/coin/monero
So I use to get the price from Binance. And as I stated, I care only about XMR/BTC. https://bitcoinwisdom.io/markets/binance/xmrbtc

Respect for a decent response, we are on the same side, Sir.

I only really care about XMR/BTC too. In crypto Bitcoin is king, we must judge any coin by its value in BTC - especially as fiat deteriorates.  I mentioned the USD price as it's a significant signpost on the road we travel along.  That said, seeing us at (say) north of 0.017 again against BTC is my real wish, of course.

If we are right to have hodled for all this time, it will come.  And in all honesty, I think we are... right.

I think we just popped a hundred bucks, gentlemen.

In two days time will be exactly 4 years from the famous Alphabay announcement.   That is what we need now x10 in BTC so 0.08  Smiley

Wishful thinking is not good for business / trading (so I hope/guess that you are HODLer).
The 3.75% growth is far from 10x. I hope it'll hold and grow more. I don't dare to hope for 10x, not yet.

Not certain, no - but far from impossible. I will settle for less than that, but I refuse to rule it out.  Been around to long to rule things like that out where Monero is concerned.
95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 20, 2020, 01:47:08 PM
Well, it's looking perky right now.   This seems a significant move.   When it popped back down briefly into the 7s I though 'ah well..'

But it snapped back up hard.  Let's see how this plays out.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 20, 2020, 12:13:07 PM
Just popped over the eight

I am hoping Monero is not so drunk that it will be unable to enjoy the view without falling back down.
97  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 17, 2020, 12:14:43 PM
Looks like we're on track to break $12k USD/BTC today.

I hope...

Here's hoping too.  $12k is proving to be a bit of a tease, but it'll come in the end.
98  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 17, 2020, 12:12:44 PM
Definitely various stressful times come to each of us in different ways, and one of the reasons that we frequently proclaim that BTC HODLers should not over invest into bitcoin

I admit JayJuanGee i went all-in and way to over invested..but i don't worry to much about it because those coins i need to sell are already much more worth than at the time i purshased it.

My early retirment plan is not in jeopardy.

Good for you Pashaas - and good luck.

If anyone else is ever sued by him, they would be justified in asking the court to take a deposit in advance against fees in case of default.

I find him slightly less appealing than an anal wart.

Jimbo after Bitcoin moons:

Man:  Er, hi - I've come about the driving job?
Jimbo:  Great! But first, see that vacuum cleaner?  Let me see you use it.

might as well have one guy for both, eh?

Guy?

How silly of me, I should have known better.  There was me thinking two birds with one stone, but your bird adds another.   A class above, Sir.
