Hey, is it only Bitcoin that gets Vegeta memes? Monero just popped over 900,000 sats!

EDIT: And if you calibrate in USD, we're over $90.00 too.

That bus on the left seems to go to a much more popular destination:

https://txstreet.com/beta/street/bitcoin-bitcoincash

It's not just the desirability of the destination... Just looked and with buses on the right nearly an hour apart (about 53 minutes since last block according to that site) then it's no real surprise.  If you're going to the party, why wait?

EDIT: apparently sometimes you need to wait five HOURS for one.  I had no idea it was that bad.
203  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 12, 2020, 01:25:38 PM
Competition is good for business. If you are competent.

Competition is good for customers, not for the business itself. A moat is good for business.

Cheaper or free education rises the bar for competition in the business of "selling one's brain". This is bad for people already in the business of selling their brain: the higher, educated classes, since it fills the moat. But it benefits the system at large.

Quite right, it is the absence of competition that allows business to make excess profits.  It is a central tenet of economics that with 'perfect knowledge' (consumers knowing where, and being able to buy cheapest) and 'balanced perfect markets' (markets where entry to the market for companies is not prevented or difficult to compete in) then price will be in an equilibrium where supply and demand meet, to a sensible margin above cost.  No business with any power wants this, they all want an edge.  It's human nature.

With too much competition, it's harder to make money.  So, rigging markets to make it tough for competition to enter, or finding an area with no competition is the easiest way businesses can make excess profits and this is exactly what every business is incentivised to do.

That's why I am not going to buy a lambo. Although theoretically I already can buy one almost new 8K km 2019 huracan right now.  Grin I prefer a beach villa for this price.

Yeah in all seriousness I won’t be buying Lambo’s. Imagine how much a car like that depreciates in value over 2-3 years. Yes I know our bitcoin’s will be worth more (presumably) as time goes on but money is money. I don’t like losing money!

I’ll just take a standard Range Rover or something & a huge house Smiley

Yay!  All back to LFC's then...

I was looking for a way to get a magpie (the last of the Corvidae) in, but that was a genius catch.  Respect!

Yeah you have no caws for complaint

Jay JuanGee might still complain, though.

(barrel thoroughly scraped yet?)

If Jay JuanGee complains I will threaten him with my nutcracker

(barrel? not quite yet)

I dunno what the corvids are going to think of that

Polo down for (unexpected) maintenance.

All funds are... (of course) 'safe'.

hmm

EDIT: Yeah, I know, a bit retro to use Polo now, but I still use it.
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 10, 2020, 07:11:49 PM
^  I think it's more likely XMR would find its new ATH this year (in USD, along with other alts finding their own) than BTC finding its own.  I think...

I would love it, but I reckon XMR will need BTC to stay in bull mode to help it along.  That said, XMR does have a tendency to sling shot no, trebuchet off the back of a good BTC run.

If you're right, I will be happy to high five you.
211  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 10, 2020, 11:46:57 AM
That was a nice pop!

I was watching a video with davincj15 and he states that monero will likely never break its old xmr/btc ATH ratio set back in January 2018. He does go on to say that it will do very well dollar wise though, breaking the old ATH denominated in dollars. What are your thoughts on this?

Starts at 34:15
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVB_IbwXI1s

Increasing against BTC up to the 0.014-0.018 range, would be no big surprise.

OK, that isn't the ATH in BTC terms, but that is not a worry if BTC is mooning up over 20K in the next big run.  In this case, an ATH in dollar terms is not at all unrealistic. If XMR doubles and BTC goes over double from now - which is looking likely - we will be in range easily enough.

Reasoning:
Any alt that grows against BTC in a bull run, is by definition worth holding, as you're making more money than being in BTC.  Monero's clear use case, long history and liquidity means it's a pretty easy choice, plenty of OGs / opinion-formers have respect, and a soft spot for it, due to it being a real coin with an old-school 'pure' launch and good devs.

The only worry for the institutional investors is legislation or pressure that affects exchanges, but that's why half way to the BTC ATH, is realistic, a new ATH against BTC not quite so.  However, as many shitcoins wane because their use cases are risible and (for the coming big consolidated exchanges) it's not worth listing them due to cost and increased attack surface risk, the cream will separate and Monero should stay the distance.

TLDR:  New USD ATH?  Sure, why not?
212  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 09, 2020, 04:20:38 PM
Whatever it was oscillations now broken. Here we go?    Smiley

Yes indeed, decision was made.  So Monero is post-Golden Cross and so far is rising against BTC, which means in dollar terms we just popped over $85.

We are not just following BTC up just now, but a better performer.   I can't say I am at all unhappy about that!

Now to see if it can be kept up, especially if BTC drops back.   So far so good, though.

And Welcome Back bones261!

Just to let everyone know. I am doing great. Sorry to worry some people. I'm just for all intensive purposes a nocoiner now. I'll try to check in more often. We shall see.

Nice to see you Bones - do stick around, you have been missed.

Thanks as always for taking the time to reply.

Not sure I can adjust some of those setting on the .io thing.

I just wondered, if it was an indicator like when Bollinger bands squeeze and triangles close.

Being electronic in nature I like a sin curve too eh ?   Cool

Cheers.

me

Jeez, Globb0..  Electronic? I didn't know you were real robot Wink

If you want to change parameters:

1. Hover over 'settings' it pulls down
2. Move mouse down to 'indicator parameters' one up from the bottom (in blue text) and click
3. New box comes up, so hover away from 'settings' pull-down to see it
4. First option is MA/EMA - set first box to 200, second box to 50
5. Close Indicator Paramaters, set scale to 1 day, 3 day / wtv

Sorted.

Alternatively - ignore me and play with parameters and see if you find a killer combo no one has yet discovered.

GL mate.
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: February 08, 2020, 08:53:45 AM
This seemed unusual so I snapped it.

Kurious is there a meaning or reason when the line is oscillating so neatly around the other, see poor sketch.

It looks like a one hour chart, and so the meandering is mostly just noise.  BTC has been meandering up and down too, which is the strongest factor in price for XMR over short timescales.  If you set a BTC chart up the same as the one you've posted, it won't look too different.

Sure, we are at a point of indecision...  It's close to the halving, but hasn't kicked off enough to pull BTC over 10K.  Some of the BTC rise has been the Coronavirus 'flight to safety', but the failure to break 10K leaves us on the blocks, tensing and waiting for the starting gun, or the race to be called off.

Short term it's a little will it/won't it?

Looking at the one hour won't tell you much and your MA lines are best set pretty long. 200/50 is a classic, and I like it on the 1 day chart for Monero. With MA's set to be longer term it's better for spotting Golden Crosses, like now...

It is looking reasonably bright.  If BTC does pop over 10K solidly, it will get volatile. But right now Monero is just bored waiting to see what BTC will do - just when it's own Golden Cross is coming.  Hopefully BTC won't spoil it.

The bottom scale is a MACD set to 26/12/9, which gives some clues in advance to movement.

OK, when Oort Cloud?

We have been beavering away in the asteroid belt lo these last 3 years getting our base together.  There have been setbacks, the unplanned depressurization of the Ganymede installation was especially painful for all of us.  Indeed, at times it seemed as if all was lost.  But now, as we near completion of our first interstellar probe, our spirits are buoyed by the possibilities beyond.

Indeed brother. I know, I too believe.  We shall go forth and reach new horizons, never see before. We shall prevail.

219  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 06, 2020, 10:59:50 PM
In my opinion it is this:

It is one thing to find an alternative protocol to Bitcoin interesting, or believe in it as an investment.

I don't agree with this view, but people have the right to make choices, even if they ultimately prove to be wrong.  Live and let live.

However, going so far as refusing to condemn the objectively indefensible, places someone beyond the possibility of respect.  A fellow traveler ceases to be a friend, which is a shame.

Craig Wright's lack of principles and honesty is objectively indefensible.  This has been proven in a court of law.  He has lied under oath; it is not unreasonable to conclude he lives a tissue of lies.

When any man is obviously of sound mind and intelligent, but still disregards the obvious and will not condemn this plainly malignant, transparent liar, one can only conclude he is either; as corrupt as the man he defends, too egotistical, or too weak and foolish to look in the mirror and admit that he might be wrong.
