Perhaps accounts that have been ignored a high number of times should be reviewed by mods and banned if the mods are confident that the account in question is merely trying to increase activity?  Maybe display the number of times accounts have been ignored (display ignore count)?

Problem is any method to combat this problem can be gamed, and maybe the market will work itself out.  This is happening to some extent: most decent airdrops are sharedrops, and the good sig campaigns (DeepOnion) reject a lot of people.

Any advice on other forums to read, or where legit posters have gone?  I know anonymint is on Steemit and github, Twitter is dece, some subreddits are good, also Telegram/Slack.

Why is IOTA market cap so much higher than Byteball?  I realize that Byteball inflation rate is high since most of the distribution is occurring this year, but still..  

Perhaps airdrops on coins other than bitcoin should be considered? (Ethereum, Monero, Waves)  Even small airdrops will raise awareness.. anything to get people to try Byteball.


Completely agree.  I have accepted that price will be suppressed during the distribution phase.  I have no problem with this because I will be hodling long time, and we should want the people dumping their airdrops to get low price.

why did they say snapshot will take place oct 4-6? snapshot happens at one moment in time, not over a period of time.

There should have at least been some percentage reserved for current BTC holders to claim via airdrop a la the CLAM airdrop model (which BTC/LTC/DOGE holders can still claim 3 years later).

How does EBTC differ from UET other than supply?  As far as I can tell they are both nearly useless ERC20 tokens.  I would bet a lot of people gamed this "airdrop" to receive multiple giveaways.. I wouldn't be surprised if the founders had a bunch of sockpuppet accounts, or maybe they didn't even bother with that hassle and just gave themselves a bunch of tokens.

it wasn't an airdrop, it was a 2-day giveaway with effectively zero notice.

Not a good idea.  You are merely encouraging people to move their ETH into as many addresses as possible.  Bitcore (BTX) experimented with this approach during the first several weeks of their multi-month airdrop (it didn't work well, just resulted in time-wasting gaming among whales, and excluded smaller holders).  You're not helping the little guy by doing this, you're punishing people who consolidate their ETH into a small number of addresses.


Keep your ETH in addresses where you control private keys.. its OmiseGo style sharedrop via ERC20 token.. in other words you probably don't have to do anything.

Everybody knew fork was coming, and that no exchange could be trusted to credit BCH fork.  Exchanges have stiffed people before in similar situations:
- BTC-E said ETC was a scam and didn't credit ETH deposits with ETC
- Poloniex didn't airdrop any Byteball, Stellar, Bitcore, or OmiseGo on its customers (in fairness, OMG was the only one of those that was distributed without any action required from the holder of the coin being airdropped on)

This is exactly why you don't do "airdrops" (giveaways) manually and allow brand new bitcointalk accounts.  Do a sharedrop that is automated (require a signed message, for example), and have a signature campaign with requirements that weed out account farmers..

Requiring PMs is not transparent at all and we have no way of knowing that you're not sending yourself/team/friends a large number of "airdrops".

Also, it is a big mistake to allow new bitcointalk accounts and empty ETH addresses to participate.  This is the problem with giveaways--and yes, ETHD is a giveaway, not an airdrop.  They don't require you to own anything in order to get free coins, and so the distribution model becomes: how many sockpuppet bitcointalk accounts do you have?  This is why sharedrop (automated on a website like how Bitcore does it, not manually doing PMs) + signature campaign (with a bunch of requirements like DeepOnion) is the better method of airdropping.

Giving away this information is like giving away money.  Then again, a certain amount of distribution is necessary for a new coin to have value.  If you must know the answer to this, you'll keep searching.. to be honest, most of the answer to this question is already in this thread.
