What kind of a jank airdrop is this? You have to PM the dev? Airdrops on Ethereum should be involuntary--dev should just send an ERC20 token to everyone meeting some min balance. Or require digital signatures if you don't want to include "all" ETH holders. Short term unannounced airdrops are kinda shady as well..

Giveaway - a donation to any warm body who may or may not ask for it (ex: Authorship, Masternodecoin, HOWL) Airdrop - giveaway of one asset to owners of a separate asset (ex: CLAMs) Sharedrop - airdrop in proportion to the amount of a separate asset (ex: OmiseGo, Byteball, Bitcore) Sigdrop - signature campaign giveaway (ex: DeepOnion)
BCH is not an airdrop, it's a fork.
All new coins should do airdrops (and sigdrops too if the coin doesn't have big whales behind it), even if they are smallish (like OMG). Airdrops increase distribution, instantly creates allies, and the airdropees will start pumping your coin. Most legit airdrops are sharedrops. The easiest coins to airdrop on right now are Ethereum and Waves (bitcoin does not have a native colored coin like Ethereum does with the ERC20 token, so to get a bitcoin sharedrop you have to sign a message typically).
Most giveaways are garbage. However there are diamonds in the rough: NEM, Decred, and Ripple giveaways turned out to be huge. One problem with giveaways is transparency--how do we know that the devs didn't create a bunch of sockpuppet accounts? NEM has been accused of having many sockpuppet accounts in its giveaway.

I always steer clear of ones that you have to download a software wallet in order to receive the airdrop, if it’s not a ERC20 Token, I’ll usually pass, maybe if you really want run the wallet on a VM or AWS so it’s safer
This is generally a good idea for giveaways.. "If something is free, you are the product." It's safe to assume that when a new shitcoin giveaway from a new account shows up, there is a decent chance that the software wallet contains malware/viruses/trojans/etc. Agree about ERC20 tokens--and you shouldn't have to verify anything to receive that kind of an airdrop (like OmiseGo).. i think we'll see a lot more airdrops like OMG. Also (if you do get a random shitcoin giveaway) do it on an old computer you don't care about, and not on your home internet.

why is CMC listing Byteball as Byteball Bytes? it sounds better as just Byteball.

All these airdrops nowadays seem to just be signature campaigns in disguise. Where are all the "Real" airdrops?
Most airdrops are giveaways in disguise (or honeypots). You're partially right: most sigdrops (signature campaign airdrops) advertise themselves as airdrops too. An example that was suggested in this thread was "howl". All you had to do is submit your ETH address to receive the airdrop and that's it.
Exactly, that's a giveaway claiming to be an airdrop. More Airdrops should be like the above example. PM me if you know of some.
The "real" airdrops are/were: Byteball, Stellar, Bitcore, CLAMs, OmiseGo, and a few others (i believe Ripto Bux was airdropped on Waves.. there are a lot of Waves airdrops and most are garbage). Some people consider BCH an airdrop--I don't.. perhaps forkdrop is a better term, or just fork cuz thats what it is. The "real" airdrops should start calling themselves sharedrops (because they are).. Airdrops that give an amount in proportion to a separate asset are typically the only worthwhile ones (exceptions: NEM, Decred, and Ripple giveaways).

Why doesn't ETH holders dump it and buy Byteball? Byteball is moving away from dropping based on Coin (bitcoin or altcoin) holdings. It's moved to benefit people that actually have Byteball.
Most don't know about it. Here's 2 ideas: 1) send an ERC20 token to everybody who holds 1+ ETH, allow them to exchange it for bytes using the transition bot (give people a taste, like a 1-3% airdrop, like the OmiseGo airdrop, but less than Byteball was dropping first half of 2017), or 2) just have them sign a message with ETH address proving balance, but this kinda encourages people to not talk about it, but its better than nothing cuz it would at least get people do try out the Byteball wallet. To all Holders: tell people about Byteball: give them 100,000 bytes and 210000 blackbytes if they install the wallet (make a backup after sending blackbytes)), chat with them, and spread the word. Byteball's potential is huge, all it needs now to grow is more users.
Then airdrop on Steem holders.. Steem is almost in the top 1000 websites now.. its blockchain is used more than Bitcoin&Ethereum combined.. or somehow give crypto twitter people a financial incentive to pump it.. like, they give out a referral link, and if you link your ETH or STEEM they get a tiny percentage. Byteball hasn't really hit twitter yet.. you wanna see a pump? get people like notsofast, cryptoCobain, loomdart, alistairmilne, WhalePanda, Max Keiser to tweet about it. Market cap would double in a few days. Although I do expect most of those guys to pump it anyway once the distribution is over. Right now people have some incentive to not talk about Byteball so they can get more distributions of bytes. Byteball is moving away from dropping based on Coin (bitcoin or altcoin) holdings. It's moved to benefit people that actually have Byteball.
And that is really a great step! I am holding Byteball since many months, good that this will be more rewarded than holding another coin. It would be great if they change the distribution model to benefit the Long-Term Holder, maybe 10% for Coins holding longer than a month, that will decrease the dump every time. There is some benefit to that, but maybe more benefit if a lot more people know about Byteball and use it. Maybe do airdrops on people who are sportsbetting or gambling (same idea as the 10% airdrop on purchases, but do it for bets).

Why doesnt Byteball do one of its airdrops on Ethereum holders? Airdrops are such a great way to build allies.. or maybe people think Byteball is too much of a competitor with its conditional payments and other features (and therefore too many ETH holders would just dump such an airdrop)?

so it's not an airdrop, its giveaways/bounties..

This is what Steem was supposed to be.
i thought Steemit was more similar to Blogspot/Medium/Wordpress, but with an integrated blockchain.. I wonder if a social media website could be decentralized. Facebook is a social media website and it needs maintenance and backup time to time to work properly. It needs servers to send and receive information. These are servers should be maintained well by man and needs updated from time to time . If Facebook is to be decentralized then its servers should be capable to update itself regularly and should be capable to handle large amount of data efficiently. So in my opinion it is possible but with a lot of work.
You don't need a fully decentralized facebook.. that would be wasteful and is currently unnecessary. What we do need is for people to have an option: do I want the value of my posting content to go to a corporation or to myself? (via a Steemit-esque version of facebook where you get paid) You mean no censorship at all, there are so many fake news in facebook feeds that is why facebook implement reporting of such post if a new social comes out with a free for all I don't think it's going to be healthy but I am not into censorship but there should be a level so to discourage fake news.
facebook uses algorithms to filter out anything but regressive leftist SJW news.

i'm trying to make an account at deeponion.org but i keep getting: Please correct the following errors:
Please enter a value that matches the required format.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. The website does not say what value is wrong. Maybe my DeepOnion address was wrong?
