342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is ConsenSys doing? Any upcoming projects? on: April 17, 2016, 04:17:40 PM
does anybody happen to know what kind of projects Consensys is currently involved in?
As far as I understand this is the ETH-main-developer branch, isn't it?

rebuilding crappy versions of everything in order to pump eth.

Would be interesting to know what these guys do all day long...

marketing.
343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: April 17, 2016, 01:06:32 AM

Sorry you're wrong. The supply is limited. Total ETH supply will be around 100 mil. Or only 5x bitcoin's supply

Is complete bullshit. There is no planned cap of coins for ethereum. It is intended to be inflationary.

it's neither--like everything ethereum: they have yet to figure it out.  originally they were gonna do constant inflation (which approaches 0% annually over time).  then they said they might cap it after PoS, then they said 'we dont know, we'll figure it out.'  either way it doesnt reallly matter, the end game of ethereum is never finishing the software, cashing in on the hype (now and in near future) so that when it's clear nobody uses it for anything they'll be out.
344  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why did the bears stop spamming this forum? on: April 17, 2016, 12:58:38 AM
pretty sure the bears were just eth pumpers spamming fud.  a lot of them are in BTC now and probably want eth to drop below .01 before getting back in.
345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Zcash? on: April 15, 2016, 10:17:36 PM
when does this launch?
346  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 14, 2016, 11:32:39 PM
is it possible that the halvening got priced in during the runup from $200ish to $500ish last year? then again i remember a similar runup in price in like august 2012, months before the first halvening.. if thats any indication, price might just do nothing.. for now.

i feel like we're gonna get to the end of the triangle and not break up or down, just continue flatlining until some scaling news comes out.. thoughts?
347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoins market cap pretty consistent at around 2% of Bitcoins on: April 09, 2016, 03:52:13 PM
the crypto world has changed a bit since litecoin's last peak.  we've seen a million clone-shitcoins.  theres no story here, no doohickey to even pump.  litecoin is a bitcoin clone with some basic parameters changed, but it offers nothing new.  china already got burned hard on litecoin, and they're not coming back to the table.

despite many altcoins being up large amounts this year (catalyst being Mike Hearn's blog), the big clone coins (litecoin, dogecoin) have done NOTHING.

while i see various Rube Goldberg blockchains (complicated but useless blockchains) getting pumped, i dont see the shitclones ever getting pumped like they once were.
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is a billion dollar bubble on: April 09, 2016, 02:57:23 PM
The press (all good) is non-stop for ETH and coming from many big sources (NYTimes).  I think the hype is what is worth a billion dollars.  How the heck did Facebook buy WhatApp for 2 billion dollars??  New technologies that get everyone excited seem to bubble up fast.

People used WhatsApp.
349  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Eth bubble has popped - Will you be left a bagholder? on: April 08, 2016, 04:07:44 PM
has any crypto ever maintained an equilibrium price >50% of bubble peak post-bubble?
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: April 07, 2016, 03:29:21 PM
How is it a DApp if it runs on a .com website? There aren't going to be *real* DApps on Ethereum's network for at least a year.

ftfy
351  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin better watch out - more Ethereum FUD ;) on: March 31, 2016, 04:12:55 PM
Ethereum is referred as bitcoin 2.0.
It is supposedly better than bitcoin as it doesnot have transaction problems and also scalability of ethereum is better.

quite the opposite--ethereum does not scale yet, it might never, and it will be much harder to scale than bitcoin.

ethereum claims to be a platform for dapps, but i cant even find 1 ethereum owner who uses any dapp for anything.  ethereum's programming language is supposed to make it easier to create dapps, yet the only ones i was interested in have been under construction forever..

ethereum has been hyped so hard that it is virtually guaranteed to under deliver, if it delivers anything at all.  it may have some potential, i dont know, we shall see, but at the moment its used for nothing by nobody.
352  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ICO & Crowdsale seems to be the new flavour of the month... on: March 31, 2016, 03:29:51 PM
i completely agree, popcorn time.  Grin

who will be the next pirateat40?  Huh
who will be the next mark karpeles?

Mike Hearn made shitcoins great again!
353  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Lisk ICO Scam on: March 28, 2016, 11:46:06 AM
even if it is, even if it is complete vaporware, with zero users the market cap could get to 1B+ with the right marketing team, advertising, pumping, hyping, spamming, and FUDing of all competitors.

gotta ride the ponzi yo  Wink

take a page out of fontas' book:

354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Etherum is a tool for banks on: March 26, 2016, 03:39:35 PM
do you really think that banks will use something they cannot control?

of course not.

The banks are only using ether at moment to reverse engineer its tech. They will build a centralised clone sooner or later.

yep.

Also, apparently ANYTHING can get on Azure.. even Expanse and Influxcoin lol are on Azure.. guess it really is meaningless.  still cant gamble, buy drugs, or do anything with ethereum... hype hype hype!  the only chance for profit is to hype it up now cuz these "dapps" are gonna be a huge failure.

(by dapps i do not mean decentralized applications. i mean ethereum centralized applications. the successful decentralized applications will be built on a platform called the internet, using one of the many Turing complete programming languages)
355  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Pump & Dump Scam on: March 25, 2016, 05:38:39 AM
you could be a genius... but many have tried and failed to be the coin that wasn't a ponzi..... I think your holding faith will be tested.... as will my skepticism.

My guess is that ETH isn't even close to a scalable global crypto.... it will ponzi bubble and then maintain some price somewhere near its utility as a non-currency....

vitalik and vlad have both admitted they don't actually know how to scale it.  it's still a "research project".  scaling it (according to the technobabble they've been spewing about how they think they'll do it) would violate the cap theorem.  you know why they're leaving the scaling to the last part of the coding process? cuz they can't do it.  oh ya and it has zero use cases and most dapps are abandoned.
356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Etherium going to be a Corporate coin? on: March 25, 2016, 04:30:37 AM
Ok so why wouldn't banks just make a clone of eth or any of the thousand altcoins out there?  Or just design their own.   And I totally agree,  if the banks aren't in control or it's too risky,  they won't touch it.   Should be interesting to see what banks actually end up doing.

agree.  i think banks are most likely to use something like Ripple.  they stand nothing to gain from giving up control of their own books.
357  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2016 will be a boring year for bitcoin on: March 24, 2016, 09:29:05 AM
the coin always seems to do what you dont expect. i think it might actually decrease in price a little around the halvening.. and then... like a phoenix rising from the ashes.. watch out.

will be interesting to see which alts flame out and which hang on.. very different altcoin market from the last real altcoin bull market in late 2013/early 2014.
358  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POLL [IOTA ]- ICO 2 -Do YOU want to buy IOTA at a reasonable price? OR BIG SCAM? on: March 24, 2016, 09:05:12 AM

  • Google "iota crowdsale":
    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1262688.0
    https://www.tangle.ninja/iota/crowdsale
  • 1337 BTC (including early bird bonus and JINN shares)
  • see second link above
  • supply: see second link above. Trades: no exchange yet, only OTC trades, price fluctuates between 2k-4k satoshis
  • See http://iotatoken.com/  (for example it does very lightweight transaction without tx fees allowing for very low end devices such as sensors to make transactions and send data over iota network)
  • no, it's a brand new concept, it uses a "tangle" or DAG instead of a blockchain, which has some advantages

thanks for this response, i'm reading some of the links right now. im actually capable of changing my mind when presented with the right evidence (unlike leftists).  but the jury is still out!
359  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero will probably be the next +10x coin on: March 24, 2016, 08:32:38 AM
i need to look into this more, but i recall reading that ethereum is trying to steal some stuff from monero relating to ring signatures? i dont even know what this is, but the more i learn about monero the more i like it. i dont own any but might be taking the plunge soon.

given that ethereum is up 1800% in 2 months and monero up only like 300% or something (and not really pumped at all), there seems to be better risk/reward here.
360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POLL [IOTA ]- ICO 2 -Do YOU want to buy IOTA at a reasonable price? OR BIG SCAM? on: March 24, 2016, 08:26:50 AM
i cannot find out anything about IOTA ICO. i was mildly interested in the idea and probably would have thrown a tiny amount at the ICO, but i found nothing on their site.

- where can i find ANY info on IOTA ICO?
- how much was raised in IOTA ICO?
- over what time period did IOTA ICO occur?
- what is the current supply/price of IOTAtoken?
- where is IOTA traded?
- wtf can u do with IOTA?
- is IOTA a rebranded clone of an existing coin (ie a scam) designed to fleece the dumbest people who wanna invest in IoT?

given the name and the sleazy ICO, i can only assume this is a scam.
