Great time to be lending BTC on bitfinex - it is sitting at an incredible 0.35% daily right now!  That is around 127% APR - compounded daily which would make it an effective annual rate of over 255%!!  Why are more people not lending BTC over there??

Where the eff are you seeing 0.35% on Bitfinex?  0.10% is the going rate

It came down shortly after my comment...but even at 0.1% that is pretty high..

[...]communism movement. On the outside, it looked like idealistic people want to give more freedom and liberty to the people, but really they were just interested in redistributing power to their favor, while actually concentrating power even more then before.

I don't know which "outside" you were on but to most of us, it looked like exactly what it was.

I didn't express myself quite right here. Yes, people on the outside mostly saw communism as it is, but people on the inside were the ones who thought that they are idealistic good-doers and they believed it looked like that on the outside. Same here with bitcoin, where most of the majority sees bitcoin as a shady pyramid scheme while those on the inside think that they are actually doing good and people just don't understand them.
Denial is a powerful thing

I have found that when there are two strong, opposing opinions it is usually the result of one or both sides being misinformed...

The same reason we didn't store bitcoins at Gox.

I'm sorry but Bitfinex hasn't shown the incompetence that Gox has.

In any case - if Gox is bought by someone else and customer withdrawals are enabled then it will likely crash the Bitstamp market with all of the cheap btc coming out of Gox..

It is interesting that most of these big buys seem to be coming directly from BFX...

Can you sue liquidators for wasting 100k of our money and being inactive?

Thats what i wanna know.

From the last liquidator's report:

Quote
Any creditor who wishes to challenge the Liquidators fees as set out in this report may do so by an application with leave of the High Court of New Zealand under section 284(1) Companies Act 1993 ('CA93') (and by virtue of section 92 of LPA08).  Any such application filed must be served on the Liquidators.

Looks a lot like manipulation...

Looks like bitcoinica hasn't responded so they are asking for a default judgement.

So...I have a suggestion for the site completely unrelated to recent happenings:

Please make an option to execute exchange orders in the trading wallet such that
  • If I currently have 1 btc in my trading wallet
  • And I'm in a long position for 1 btc
  • And I sell 2 btc in a market order
I will close my position and then exchange my 1 btc for usd (assuming I didn't close my position at a loss).

Currently what would happen is I would be shorting 1 btc while still holding 1 btc.  The only way to close my position and then exchange my 1 btc would be to close my position, move my 1 btc to the exchange wallet, exchange for usd, then move those usd back to the trading wallet.  Which is all very tedious, takes time, and you have to be sitting at the computer to make it all happen.

So I'm just asking for an option in the settings to enable this and you can keep it how it currently is by default.
94  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: December 03, 2013, 10:11:44 PM
What is going on with http://bitcoinity.org/markets/bitstamp/USD ?  It shows huge volume for the past 3 hours but no other charts for bitstamp show this.  Also - why is the bottom chart not updating anymore?

Holy shit that was a huge fuckup. I'm sorry about that. And thanks for noticing and letting me know. Duplicated trades are removed now, it may take a moment for volume bars to get fixed on 3d/7d charts (I'm about to clear cache now).

That was super lame. Once again sorry.

Thanks for fixing that so quickly!

What on earth just happened on Gox?  Gox trying to up their volume numbers?  Obvious bot buying & selling their own orders... so strange...

Got this error just a second ago - I guess I'll have to spend the next couple of hours repeatedly trying then?   Undecided

I just read pretty much the whole thread, and boy am I shocked. This is my take on it, I guess he wanted to start out legit and run a legit operation but things didn't work out and he saw all the BTC coming in and just ran it as a Ponzi Scheme until he decided enough was enough and just ran with all the BTC.

Legit operation?? What operation?  It was all a ponzi from start to finish.

I'm no lawyer, heck I don't even play one on TV LOL...

But reading the original complaint from the SEC Gov site, this appears to be a Civil complaint, not criminal.

https://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/2013/comp-pr2013-132.pdf

Any lawyers can comment?

~BCX~

Sec is only civil. But they will pass on the evidance they collected to everyone.

I can't picture any criminal prosecutor touching this with a ten foot pole.  Civil burden of proof is much lower and the remedies are just monies but criminal is a whole other level.  The proof required on various BTC issues will be a crazy mess for the prosecutor.  BTC addresses and BTC in them can't be owned in a legal sense and if they can be and are payment methods as well then BTC itself is likely an illegal security.  This is what happens when something revolutionary meets old laws.

Seems to be moving forward:

The SEC is seeking a court order to freeze the assets of Shavers and BTCST in addition to other relief, including permanent injunctions, disgorgement of ill-gotten gains with prejudgment interest, and financial penalties.

Meaning they haven't frozen his assets yet??
