81  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-06] Bitcoin Hits $24,000 In Iran After Government Okays Mining on: September 07, 2018, 01:48:21 PM
I tried to do that a while ago with a African country, but I was unsuccessful because I could not find someone trustworthy.  Roll Eyes

selling it in country is the easy part. getting the money out of the country to another one is the reason why places like this and others have such huge price premiums. if there was an easy way around it there wouldn't be a premium in the first place.
82  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-06] Bitcoin Hits $24,000 In Iran After Government Okays Mining on: September 06, 2018, 11:22:11 AM
I am not sure who will pay 24k$ for 1 BTC in Iran these days.

another iranian?

if you have high inflation and a market that's really hard or impossible to access abroad then whatever price exists there kinda stops meaning anything to anyone outside it.

i wonder how many miners from abroad would migrate there if mining turned out to be cheaper than most of the world.

83  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Begging merits on: September 05, 2018, 11:34:42 PM
i don't know if it's prohibited, but it's not a good look for anyone.

here's a tip - hang out in the places where the people with the most merit are. that's the serious discussion/ ivory tower section and the meta section. that's where the senior people who care most about the forum hang out and they're more inclined to hand out merit to posts that respect it.

you still won't get anything if you post crap.

from looking at your posts it's mainly a couple of empty sentences that don't tell anyone anything new, or yet another list of bounty stuff. why would anyone merit that?
84  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Help pick a charity who will receive 0.0142478 BTC. on: September 05, 2018, 11:05:39 PM
bees all day long but there don't seem to be many recent updates from that project.

screw ross ulbricht.

crypto quilts. wut?

tor and EFF will already have enough high profile support.
85  Other / Serious discussion / Re: What do you think about charity? on: September 05, 2018, 09:54:29 PM
if i had a significant amount to give away i would not be handing it over to a charity. i'd go find something important and make it happen directly myself.

big charities are now big business. check some of the benefits they hand out to entice executives. they'll say they need that to attract the right people. fine. my money is not paying for some asshole's business class seat. he can go back to wall st.

some are of course much better than others. i still don't like the idea of any money being soaked up in pensions and offices.
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: your favorite Exchange (without KYC/Verification) on: September 05, 2018, 09:22:59 PM
it's entirely a matter of when, not if, any centralized exchange drops verification on its users. pure and simple it won't be allowed forever no matter where they're based and i wouldn't want to be caught up in an exchange when it happens if staying anonymous was important to me.

the only realistic alternative in future is atomic swap type stuff as decentralized exchanges have centralized hosting which is another attack vector for hackers and regulators. or proper p2p through stuff like telegram but that carries way more risk.
87  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: I would like to hear your opinion about Ethereum Classic on: August 30, 2018, 09:43:46 PM
when I think of ETC the one and only thing that comes to mind is that it is - not ETH.

that's it. where's the innovation? what are they doing differently or better than ETH? what else did continuing on the original chain gift the world?

I agree that not giving up on immutability is a huge deal but that was now several years ago. I think it's pretty clear now that hardly anyone cares about real decentralization. they follow the dollars.

as far as i can tell all ETC is is another three letters you can trade in some big league places. that's cool. i personally would want more.

I'll go back into retirement now good luck you're probably going to need it  Cheesy

i for one applaud their willingness to experiment, even if it's done unwillingly for most.

this whole thing will be an excellent resource in what can go wrong.

for the sake of people who put their own real money in i hope it survives and thrives. i also hope the idea of it 'being' bitcoin dies for good, not that it ever lived in the first place.

Either Bitmain goes all in into BCH or ...

https://youtu.be/1TaEyCP3UV8

I noticed these guys swallowed the r/btc fairytale of tether being pure fiction and that somehow making bitcoin vulnerable, as if that wouldn't screw bch as much as anything else. that's when it turned off.

Wright now says there will be no HF?

since when has that freak said anything worthwhile or worth believing?

he's in one faction. there are others. if we're really lucky we'll have three BCH's by the end of the year.

woo hoo.

do the exact opposite of what CNBC reckons and guess what happens?

92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][Main] Bitcore- BTX - Are you ready for the future? on: August 21, 2018, 04:43:09 PM
There is no doubt that airdrop has positive effect on the price of the coin, though I was envisaging a drop but not to this level. The question I keep asking myself now is that, Is there a future for this coin going forward

all it has to do is survive until there's another bull run then anything that functions, and many things that don't, will go for it.

i am fully unsurprised by this price drop. don't forget that most forks haven't done it like this one so big proportions of those forks remain unclaimed. that's not the case for this coin. it has far more circulating coins.
93  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Will liquidation chop bots kill amateur trading in Bitcoin? on: August 20, 2018, 01:38:59 AM
All that's currently left in the market is bots preying on noobs.

Leverage has made trading really dull to observe but also far more lucrative and consistent for those with the will to screw with things.

All we seem to get these days is 100-200 dollar spikes to clean people out and then it starts again. I wouldn't touch this market until it starts to show signs of organic life again.
94  Other / Meta / Re: People monitoring merits on: August 18, 2018, 01:53:10 PM
elsewhere a noob might get a merit for a perfectly thought out multi paragraph post that sheds new light on things. on the wall observer thread you get one or more for a good dick joke. it is what it is.

there are many, many posters on there who never step outside that one thread. most are long established with alot of merit to throw around. i think more than a few have given up venturing into other parts of the forum as it's so filled with crap.

95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / monero defeats asics on: August 18, 2018, 01:26:16 PM
https://forum.z.cash/t/monero-has-won-its-first-battle-with-asics/30883

there was much talk of monero's hard fork to get rid of asics being a risky move. however by this point it looks like it was a success and the forks that carried on with asics have now faded away.

some think asics make more sense from a security point of view, others think maintaining decentralization was the most important thing. which end of the spectrum are you on?
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [2018-08-18] Vitalik Buterin Supports Bitcoin Cash as the Adoptable Crypto, Disc on: August 18, 2018, 01:23:04 PM
why not check with the man himself rather than waste everyone's time?

no he does not.
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: August 17, 2018, 10:26:40 AM

Vitastiq sold his pretty ass and GPU miners on the eth network to Jihan recently. At last he revealed his true intentions. I would dump every bit of eth I have after this declaration. Eth has chosen the wrong horse it will get replaced by another and bcash will just die.

"In his landscape though, he’s not spending Ethereum, not is he spending Bitcoin, he’s spending Bitcoin Cash."

which of those three coins would you be the most eager to get rid of? ethereum's a relatively close second for me.

oh, and as ever you can always depend on the moronic crypto press to spin something until it has no relation to reality - https://twitter.com/VitalikButerin/status/1030094490772463618

99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: August 16, 2018, 03:27:02 PM
Most crypto users just want a version of Bitcoin that scales , is cheap and easy to use, and remains as decentralised and 'unfuckable' by governments as possible, they don't really care about the history, and if the flippening happens everyone will still be using BITCOIN.

IT really comes down to which side has more resources to move enough of the people who don't know or care too much about the deeper history of the scaling war to their side, and that's bch now, and even if it takes many years it's  the most likely outcome.

I'm thinking of switching to 60:40 in my portfolio now, and at today's conversion rate that feels like a great deal, but honestly, like I said above, I expect the unexpected, and maybe Bitcoin core has some powerful friends in the wings willing to match bitmain, but I suspect most Bitcoin core holders will switch pretty fast when we approach parity and momentum is clearly on bitmain and bch side.

At parity switching costs nothing, doing it before makes you money , imo bitmain's support for bch means it's  not going away, and most crypto users are fickle, and don't care, they just want a Bitcoin that works, and bch does.

no matter what anyone's angle is, how anyone could believe BCH is less centralised is beyond me. it effectively has one miner, a few offshoots and some straggling opportunists. that one entity is in active control of over one million coins.

100  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin Cash - Pro on-chain scaling - Cheaper fees on: August 16, 2018, 12:49:48 PM
One year is too short to determine the fate of Bitcoin Cash. It still has a lot of supporters and improvements are being done even as we speak. Crypto race is not about sprinting but a marathon. Bitcoin can be overtaken by other coins in the future by means of innovation and mass adoption.

I'm referring specifically to the attempted flippening, not any possible future. if BCH becomes simply better in every way then it deserves to take the lead. that's not how they attempted it at the beginning.

artificial pumps combined with screwing with mining difficulty and spamming the bitcoin blockchain is not how something else wins out.
