82  Other / Politics & Society / Re: United States publish new evidence shelling Ukraine from Russia on: July 28, 2014, 04:23:16 AM
The US needs to stay the hell out of regional conflicts and take care of business at home. The fact that CNN and other major media outlets are reporting this kind of stuff as fact is concerning. They did the same thing in the run up to Libya and tried to do it with Syria.
The US has a vested interest in trying to keep the world a safe place. As the largest economy and the largest military it stands to lose the most when war breaks out.

No we have a vested interest in keeping our homeland a safe place. The largest army in the world should have no trouble securing our borders.
As we have seen in both world wars, a small conflict can easily escalate to involve many countries across several continents

Conflict in the middle east and Russia border is by no mean small.

Not necessary a bad thing. Survival of the fitness.

84  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anti-Israel protesters rally across France on: July 26, 2014, 01:17:21 PM
I'm sure that the countries in North Africa that were invaded and became part of the French Colonial Empire were thrilled when their culture was changed.

What's your point ? And French empire build a lot of infrastructure there... Now French colony who stay in France are far better than Algeria...

My point is that many of those Muslim's who DodoB was referring to below are based in France precisely because the French invaded the countries which their families originated.

Irony how most of the protesters are Muslim. I still dont know why france didnt kick them out.

Many of the Muslims that are protesting will have families originating from French Colonial North African countries and therefore have as much right as any of the French to be there and voice their opinion.

A nation or a culture is usually being conquered for many good reasons. They need to either change their way and evolve with rest of the world or leave the country and stop dragging everyone down with them.

And they are most likely on welfare and keep spreading like wildfire. In 10-20 years, that 15% going to become at least 40%.
86  Other / Politics & Society / Re: is killing innocent people necesary just for the sake of thier belief? on: July 25, 2014, 04:43:44 AM
In time of conflict, innocent get killed all the time. The leaders are well aware of what they are doing and know the consequence of their action. Do you think they really care?

Warren Buffet has publicly stated he will be surprise to see bitcoin around in 10 years. Soro probably share similar view as both of them are part of the old money crowd.
90  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Recovery date on: July 21, 2014, 03:48:58 PM
Bitcoin may never go up to 1000 again seeing how good news on DELL didn't rally the price even the slightest.
91  Economy / Economics / Re: If you had to choose one fiat currency to keep your money in... on: July 20, 2014, 02:33:44 AM
USD and EURO will probably continue to lose value over time as the population is still attached to entitlement mentality.
92  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: July 20, 2014, 02:32:04 AM
To go long you need collateral in USD.

Think the latest news update said you can use bitcoin as collateral to "self fund".

Correct me if I am wrong.
93  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: July 18, 2014, 07:11:08 AM
I have a solution for Bitfinex issue:

- on 21th Bitfinex or some of their friends sells 5000 BTC at market price, bitcoin price drops to 500 USD
- new rules starts immediatelly afterwards
- price continues to drop, margin calls accelerates price drop
- at 1 USD a big chunk of money is waiting to buy everything (part of money from 5000 previously sold bitcoins)
- remaining money is used to push bitcoin price higher above 700 USD - and new baloooon is triggered

All those 5 steps are done within a minute. Only bitcoins changed their owners...

Don't give them ideas...

They can actually sell coins from hot wallet which don't belong to them, actually they belong to their customers. It is a scenario which has  100% probability to be successful.

Market is not regulated...

Long term businessman don't kill the goose which laid the golden eggs.

Except for gox

Mark Karpeles is a software developer. Not a good businessman as some posters here already pointed out.

RMB.

If people argue wider adaptation is why bitcoin value should sky rock, then choosing RMB is a no brainer since all the production are mostly done in China these days.
95  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Alternatives to Liberal Individualism and Authoritarian Collectivism on: July 18, 2014, 07:03:56 AM
The issue is not individualism vs collectivism, it is scale.

Ancient people lived together in tribes. This is somewhat the synthesis of individualism and collectivism: What's good for you is good for your family, your tribe.

The tribe was destroyed by the Roman Empire (or even older authoritarian civilizations) by removing natural tribal solidarity through reducing such natural social cohesion to core families, thereby isolating them into separate living spaces for better control, esp taxation. Divide and conquer.

Higher orders of social cohesion have been provided by governmental institutions since then (school, religion, etc).

We're used to this societal structure to this day. It's not natural.

Who knows, maybe we will see some kind of neo-tribalism in the internet age now, families in-spirit. Like-minded people can and should come together and self-organize most affairs of their lives in a largely self-sufficient way (see aquaponics, open source ecology and village construction set, 3D printing, biotecture, etc). This is the only sensible countermovement I can see against the estrangement that modern life brings, no matter if you call it "capitalism" or "socialism", power-of-the-might "individualism" or "totalitarian" collectivism.

Nicely put.

Also like to add that specialization in the old days is the reason for tribalism to exists. All members of a tribe must contribute in his own unique way for whole tribe to survive and thrive. Large scale production have change how society organize itself.

Quoting this for future reference.
96  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What should be taxed? on: July 16, 2014, 11:31:06 PM
Taxing anything further than consumption or the actual sale of goods is repeatedly taxing the same thing over and over again in my eyes.

And all politicians are well aware of that. They are simply taxing the population and using the money to buy vote for themselves.
97  Other / Politics & Society / Re: What should be taxed? on: July 15, 2014, 06:50:28 PM
What about the no tax option (except national defense and local law enforcement)?
98  Economy / Economics / Re: Huff Post: Second Financial Crisis Looming on: July 15, 2014, 06:39:05 PM
The next collapse will come without doubt, because none of the economic problems was solved, instead they were amplified by intervention policy. However nobody knows when this collapse will occur. It is possible that the current state of madness will continue for another year or two.

Moreover Huffpost is not a source I would consult for financial information.

They can keep delaying it until the creditor nations stop buying bond.
99  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does Kurd deserve their own country ? on: July 12, 2014, 09:46:11 AM
Kurds was cheated after World War I.
They received false promise from World powers that they will get their own country when WW I end and Turkish empire collapse, but this didn't happen and France and England divided between themselves Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Israel and other Arabic area.
It will be justice for Kurds now if this injustice from Paris conference in 1920 will be corrected now.
I don't think that Iraq have much chance to survive as united country now, anyway.

Pretty naive to think the world has room for justice.

Just about every successful country fought for their own land and make a great deal of sacrifice doing it. Even if Kurds is freely given some land that don't belong to them, how long do you think they can maintain it before being taken away by another stronger neighbors?
