81  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A Proposal for a New Kind of Coin on: October 10, 2013, 01:59:05 AM
I recently visited the great state of Nevada, and there are a number of Gold mining operations there. The larger the operation, the more Gold they are mining.
If the purpose of the difficulty factor rising was to mimic mining in the real world it has failed. The more earth a mining company processes the more gold that is extracted.
The same should be true for mining a crypto-currency, the more hash power you have, the more reward in currency you receive.

Mining crypto-currencies should be treated like any other business. In order to attract investment, there must be predictable, and sustainable profits.
That's where all the current slate of crypto-currencies fail. The rising difficulty factor as more miners jump on board, the less attractive the currency becomes to investors.
Who wants to invest in mining equipment only to find the mine petered out.

"The great disclosure":

Mining is not intended to be profitable. It's purpose is to secure the network and support scalability, so it's pays enough to have enough still mining. Mining was not invented to support a certain lifestyle with cutting edge hardware and open windows in the mist of winter. Sorry. It' has been purely coincidental that rise in price have followed an exponential function and by that, have generated a larger than intended profit for miners.

Spending $150,000,000/year to "secure the network" is a scam...
It's just another fucking Monopoly sucking the Middle Class dry...
But it's Heresy to point this out to brainwashed dupes.

And let's not even talk about what $150,000,000 in resources looks like...
It looks like burning 3 million TONS of coal/year = lots of black smoke.

Maybe only half of that now...
I feel better that more $$$ is going to China, fast cars, big houses, hookers, blow, etc.

82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPCoin Proof of Stake Minting Setup Guide on: October 09, 2013, 01:57:12 AM
I have 100 PPC that I received over a month and half ago. I have everything I believe setup right. The wallet says that it is unlocked for block minting only. I have left it running for the better half of a week now and my stake is still at 0 with nothing going on in the transactions. How long does one usually have to wait to see something?

I've googled this specific question a hundred different ways and cant seem to find an answer.  Huh

Read the white paper.

"The hash target that stake kernel must meet is a target per unit coin age (coin-day)
consumed in the kernel (in contrast to Bitcoin’s proof-of-work target which is a fixed
target value applying to every node). Thus the more coin age consumed in the kernel, the
easier meeting the hash target protocol. For example, if Bob has a wallet-output which
accumulated 100 coin-years and expects it to generate a kernel in 2 days, then Alice can
roughly expect her 200 coin-year wallet-output to generate a kernel in 1 day."

You have very little coin age... so it would take a long time to meet your target.
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Vote]Cryptsy's XPM market on: October 08, 2013, 08:57:09 PM
We dont need an XPM market, end of story Smiley

How typical, 10 posts and not a single number... you know, that thing with digits.

Cryptsy doesn't even show you volume totals, it must be a secret...
You think they might show you a volume table for all the coins...
No, it would be embarrassing... most of them trade 0.5 BTC/day.

October 8th XPM

mcxNOW = 300 BTC
Cryptsy  = about 50 BTC (they don't sum it for you, why?)

mcxNOW takes over every coin it lists within weeks...
Keep watching it happen as more coins get added...
Who ever thought WDC would be trading > 1000 BTC/day.

October 8th WDC

mcxNOW = 1200 BTC
Cryptsy  = about 15 BTC (they don't sum it for you, why?)

That's what happens when you have 10,000 BTC sitting on a great exchange...
And a hardcore trading culture (I was wrong about the Crack Box).
84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will ASIC adoption bring PPC to the forefront of alt currency? on: October 08, 2013, 03:46:49 AM
we're looking at massive supply deflation in the next sixth months, and a subsequent mass increase in valuation against fiat.

I do not think that this is a guaranteed result by any stretch. Bitcoin has the network effect going for it, PPC does not. Strangling the supply so early on in its adoption could result in it simply being avoided.

Well, I don't think it'll be another Mincoin or SC2 though because the long expanse in which PPC has been issued since its genesis was reasonably fair and the change in reward is based partially on the userbase and partially on an arbitrary algorithm released by the original designer, rather than just the latter.  When the deflation isn't 100% dictated by the designer and is effectively created by the work of the userbase, I think it's a different scenario.

I don't think it's a guaranteed result either, but I'm happy to mine it when I know that dumping my ASICs onto it decreases the supply of the currency more than it does for Bitcoin.

We've yet to see what happens with elastic reward coins when hash rate increases exponentially.  I think it's silly to call PPC "worthless" too, as it was the original PoS coin and most of the other current PoS coins are just clones of it.  The same argument went for LTC and LTC has experienced more growth than I ever anticipated.

3 weeks later you are looking good...
PPC tripled to 0.004 on heavy volume...
Then lost about 25% to 0.003 in one day (today Oct 7).

This thread addresses central concepts that will define the future of crypto-currency...
Concepts that can be counter-intuitive... keep it coming, baby.
85  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is the point of Altcoins? on: October 08, 2013, 03:34:52 AM

Bitcoin is everything Satoshi feared.

Controlled by an Oligarchy of Rich Early Adopters...
Stodgy, conservative development is centralized in Silicon Valley, California, USA...
Security in the hands of 2-3 Mining Oligarchies and 2-3 foundries in China...
An ordinary person cannot mine BTC anymore...

Plus the Bitcoin Foundation wants to have sex with the US Government...
Not to mention the patronizing attitude towards the Developing World...
Ya man, subsistence level African farmers and Indian migrant workers need Bitcoin ATMs, baby.

The Alt Coin Point of the Tech Spear...
Will ultimately spawn 1000s of coins and 100s of innovations...
The scammers and pump and dumpers are a small price to pay...
3 years from now BTC will be just another Top 5 coin for Old School Hoarders.
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Watching WorldCoin (WDC) @ Exchange - Your Thoughts? Seems Interesting... on: October 07, 2013, 09:02:13 PM
The price keep going up Smiley

All the Pro Pumpers on MCX love WDC...
It's not the 1st coin they've strapped a rocket to...
Unlike sleepy Cryptsy... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
It just happens to be going up on all sites....

K.

How does that change anything?
Every exchange has to mirror mcxNOW price move...
Or it's a trivial BTC arb.

It's a massive 200% WDC pump on mcxNOW...
These dudes yak, yak, yak all day in the Chat Box...
They are like 10-20 obsessed guys and very organized...
I see them do it every day.

Of course, the dump is coming... look out below.

87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Limit mining a new alt-coin to a specific country. on: October 07, 2013, 08:28:23 PM
Hi guys, we are designing a currency for Venezuela and we would like to know your insights about limiting the mining and trading to a specific country, in this case Venezuela. Is that a good idea or even possible?

The purpose is to mine and trade with venezuelan currency, which is 'bolivares', and since nobody in the world wants them and foreign exchange is restricted in our country it would be a good idea for venezuelan miners to get paid in bolivares so they can spend it for daily living while people buy the alt-coins for savings. So, slowly we change our shitty bolivares for XVEs and in a matter of years we may be able to start an exchange to trade XBTs for XVEs, you know, like in a real world monetary system (without govt intervention of course).

See, our currency just got debased 600% in one year and we are sick of government robbing us at gunpoint.

No, we can not buy BTCs (the main purpose of a world currency like BTC) because we have no access to dollars, euros, yens or whatever strong currencies and nobody takes our bolivares.

Believe me when I tell you we are fucked.

Ideas?

Dude, this is a good idea...
Pick the right Alt Coin with PoW/PoS.. like PPC or YAC...
Fork it, make it Spanish... and launch, baby, launch.

Just plan on lauching 2 coins...
A 1st test coin (3 months)... and your 2nd great coin (6 months).

Bitcoin is an Elitist California coin whereby Hipsters patronize the Third World...
Russia, China gonna have LOTS of regional coins... why not Venezuala?

When the Muslim Brotherhood launches a coin... the infidel Bitcoin will be left in the dust.

The whole Quantum Computer vs Bitcoin thing is a scam.

By the time Quantum Computers are available... Bitcoin PoW hashing will be an anachronsim.

I haven't attacked mcxNOW LOL....

But to answer your question, do a little history search between us going back to early 2011.

~BCX~

I see, but what's the advantage of attacking him? I mean, you have freedom of speech, but it seems a personal
issue between you and him.

What's your goal? What do you expect from those attacks?

If you go back and read circa-2011 posts...
BCX spent a lot of time and energy trying to destroy SolidCoin with DDoS attacks....
It was all very personal, though somewhat entertaining.

It would be fair to call RS a Builder... and BCX an Exploiter...
The world is made up of these 2 competing groups.

None of this history sheds ANY light on the merits of mcxNOW.

Agreed....

For the record I have no issue with mcxNOW other than Realsolid aka Coinhunter aka Notyep aka rlh and a few others.

mcxNOW is an interesting concept with potential, too bad it will used to eventually build a massive store of funds that will be mysteriously hacked and RS vaporizing.

BTW, do some research on Moonco.in, that was Coinhunter.

I understand, but why would anyone want to destroy an anlternative cryptocurrency (since it's completely voluntary and nobody is forced to use it)?

Besides that, competition to bitcoin is good, since we have more alternatives and it forces bitcoin developers to improve it faster.

In the long run BCX did RS a big favor...
By weathering months/years of attacks you become a security expert...
I'll bet mcxNOW is by far the most hardened crypto-exchange...
So we are the beneficiaries of all this historical drama.

95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Limit mining a new alt-coin to a specific country. on: October 02, 2013, 02:39:55 PM
Maybe you could simply mine one or both of the really low difficulty merged mined coins, quietly building up a large stash of them so that you will be in position with lots of them when they go onto pools and exchanges? Unfortunately it is already too late to jump on I0Coin and GRouPcoin as they already did go onto pools and, at least in I0Coin's case, exchanges. It is too bad you didnt' pick up those while they were easy. But CoiLedCoin and GeistGeld are still easy to get. The nice thing about the merged mined coins is you can expect them to have decent difficulty very rapidly, look at I0Coin and GRouPcoin now for example, just getting onto bitparking's mmpool jacked their difficulties way up. So if you pick up CoiLedCoin and GeistGeld now before that happens to them too you could end up with a large stash of well secured (high difficulty) coins very rapidly once they do get picked up. In fact you might prefer they not get picked up for some time, so you can have more time to build your national warchest before it happens.

-MarkM-

All you ever do is pump your obscure coins.

To the OP...
Just make a decision, build and launch a coin.

Expect your 1st coin to be a failure and a learning experience...
Focus on your 2nd, 3rd, 4th coin being a home run.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: mcxNOW Fee shares : Cryptocurrency daily earnings on: October 02, 2013, 02:38:07 PM

By selling these shares, RS is hedging his bets that his exchange will not be around that long. If he trusted in his exchange, the wise move would be to keep all the shares.

That would defeat the purpose of having shares in the first place...
If RS thought his exchange would be around for many years to come, he would not be selling shares. He would be keeping them. That tells you how confident he is in his own exchange.

This reminds me of when ASICMiner sold their 10 first blades, and people went insane and started bidding over $8000 a unit. Why would they sell something that was basically printing them money? Because they knew that avalon chips were about to go on the market, and they had already developed their nextgen ASICs. It is unlikely that those who foolishly purchased one of their blades recooped even 20% of their initial investment.

In other words, the present value of these shares is far more than the shares themselves will ever generate. You are all getting fucked over. Mark my words.

While mcxFEE shares may very well be overpriced, you can't apply same reasoning to mining equipment and shares of an exchange.  Mining equipment is a depreciating asset, that will eventually have near zero value after it is not worth paying for electricity to run it.  Therefore, it is important to consider the total dividends that will be generated before the asset value reaches zero. Businesses, on the other hand, are generally not expected to decay to zero value.  In the case of a new and growing business such as mcxNOW, earnings are expected to increase over time, thus increasing the present value of the shares.

mcxNOW is currently the best implementation of a Crypto Exchange...
With some minor, fixable issues like crappy charts.

It's the leading edge, baby, with *** actual, detailed, growing revenues ***...
Unlike a lot of the crazy vapor-ware floating around here...
Or Alt Coins that produce no revenue... and get their valuations out of thin air.

You have to analyze quality Crypto issues...
The same way you might have looked at internet stocks in 1997.
97  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] mcxNOW.com : Deposit. Earn Interest. Trade. on: October 02, 2013, 02:43:54 AM

There's an offer of 828 shares at 0.835...
That would be 16% of the float if it was part of the 5000 IPO.
Which seems very unlikely.

So are insiders selling at these prices... and increasing the float?

It probably was from "davidpate" (see in the rich list).

Actually, RS said that "davidpate" got nothing in the IPO...
Just accumulated 20% of the float day by day.

This will make the next few weeks very interesting:

Now, having said this, ... understand that there's nothing stopping anyone from attempting some regional crypto currency.   There are several that have already been tried with others being attempted now.  Here's one:

OK, thanks = it's really just an $80,000 position...
Tiny by NYSE standards.

I don't think he's actually getting out...
More like trying to cap the price to create a trading range...
Which is good for every scalper out there.

He must be doing > 10% of total volume...
Generally, it's trivial to do 3-4% of the volume of an illiquid stock...
I'm doing close to 2% and not even trying (yet).
