Revealed: Emma Watson named in latest Panama Papers leak

Of late, Emma Watson has been taking a more active role in both UK and American politics. The Harry Potter actress recently attended the White House correspondents’ dinner, and just yesterday called on London’s new mayor Sadiq Khan to put a statue of a suffragette outside Parliament.

However, should she wish to continue to move in political circles, Watson may face questions about her use of an offshore company. Yesterday, more details of the now infamous Panama Papers were released online in a searchable database. The database provides information regarding the many offshore companies named in the confidential documents which were first leaked earlier this year.

On looking through the database, Mr S has come across Emma Watson’s name. The Offshore Leaks Database says that ‘Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson’ is a beneficiary in an offshore company based in the British Virgin Islands.

While a spokesman for the actress confirms that Watson set up an offshore company, they say it was set up for the sole purpose of ‘protecting her anonymity and safety’. They add that the actress receives ‘no tax or monetary advantages from this offshore company’:

‘Emma (like many high profile individuals) set up an offshore company for the sole purpose of protecting her anonymity and safety. UK companies are required to publicly publish details of their shareholders and therefore do not give her the necessary anonymity required to protect her personal safety, which has been jeopardised in the past owing to such information being publicly available.

Offshore companies do not publish these shareholder details. Emma receives absolutely no tax or monetary advantages from this offshore company whatsoever – only privacy.’

With the details of over 200,000 offshore entities revealed in the latest leak, it seems the fall-out from the Panama Papers is far from over.

Interesting, since just last month, Facebook employees wanted to ask Zuckerberg about what, if any, imperative they had as a company to prevent a Trump presidency. http://gizmodo.com/facebook-employees-asked-mark-zuckerberg-if-they-should-1771012990

I'm not entirely surprised, to be honest. It's the same as an editorial board at a newspaper, deciding which pieces to run from a wire service. This is just on a much, much larger scale. Still immensely unethical to do so, while still presenting yourself as neutral.

That's the part I have a problem with. The lie. Be open instead. Tell everyone you support clinton.

But nah! "Neutral"

Dystopia: Venezuelans Are Now Killing Cats, Dogs, and Birds For Food Because Socialism Can't Provide

So, you know Venezuela is on the verge of economic collapse. The price of oil has dropped precipitously over the past few years—that’s a budgetary nightmare for a nation dependent on its oil exports. As a result, basic necessities, like toilet paper, are being rationed. There’s limited access to television and long distance phone service. There are rolling blackouts due to energy shortages. And now the government is cutting back the workweek to just two days. This comes at a time when Venezuela’s citizens need government services the most. Supermarkets are not stocked regularly, so there’s a food shortage; people are starving. They’ve resorted to looting to survive. You would think that the government can’t really afford to print its own currency because it’s so broke would be the cherry on top of this socialist nightmare. Nope—the hunger games appear to have begun, as Venezuelans are now hunting stray dogs, cats, and pigeons for sustenance (via PanAm Post):

Ramón Muchacho, Mayor of Chacao in Caracas, said the streets of the capital of Venezuela are filled with people killing animals for food.

Through Twitter, Muchacho reported that in Venezuela, it is a “painful reality” that people “hunt cats, dogs and pigeons” to ease their hunger.

People are also reportedly gathering vegetables from the ground and trash to eat as well.

The crisis in Venezuela is worsening everyday due in part to shortages reaching 70 percent. This to go along with the world’s highest level of inflation.

The population’s desperation has begun to show, with looting and robberies for food increasing all the time. This Sunday, May 1, six Venezuelan military officials were arrested for stealing goats to ease their hunger, as there was no food at the Fort Manaure military base.

    […]

The Venezuelan Chamber of Food (Cavidea) said many businesses only have 15 days worth of inventory. Production has been effected as a result of a shortage of raw materials, as well as exhausted national and international supply resources.

Just when you thought this left wing dystopia couldn’t get any worse—it does.

Munich knife attack: One dead as man shouting 'Allahu Akbar' attacks four at train station in Grafing, Germany

One killed, three wounded in attack near Munich, Germany
Attack took place at 5am local time at train station in Grafing
Attacker reportedly shouted "Allahu akbar" and "you infidels!"
Suspect arrested, identified as German citizen, 27

    Attacker "suffered from psychiatric issues"

What we know so far

A German man has been arrested after several people were stabbed at a train station near Munich early Tuesday.

One victim died in a hospital and three other people were wounded.

The German authorities say they do not the believe the attack was linked to Islamist terrorism and they believe the suspect has mental health problems.

The assailant made "politically motivated comments" as he attacked, Ken Heidenreich, spokesman for the Munich prosecutor's office in charge of the case, told The Associated Press.

He said his office was investigating witness reports that he yelled "Allahu Akbar," Arabic for "God is great."

"It's going in that direction," Heidenreich said of his office's initial information following the stabbing at the Grafing Bahnhof station, some 30 kilometers (nearly 20 miles) east of Munich.

Meanwhile, Justin Huggler in Berlin writes:

Police in neighbouring Czechia (Chezch Republic) have evacuated several schools, town halls and railway stations across the country after receiving an anonymous tip-off that they were to be targetted in coordinated bomb attacks.

The main train station and municipal buildings in the capital Prague were affected, along with the train station and city hall in the western city of Pilsen.

A total of 14 different locations around the country were involved. The evacuations began at around 10am local time (am BST) after the authorities received detailed tip-offs including the timings bombs would go off at the various locations.

In the central city of Pardubice, which was also affected, staff at the city hall said they had received a tip-off in a phone call.

"At about 8.30am we received an anonymous phone call saying that a bomb would go off in the city hall at 12pm. We immediately contacted the police," Radim Jelinek, a spokesman for the municpality said.

The anonynpus tipster apaprently made no attempt to hide their telephone number.

"We handed over the phone number of the anonymous caller, because it showed up in the caller ID, "Mr Jelinek said.

London's Muslim mayor: I can't travel to U.S. under Trump

London’s new mayor — and the first Muslim to hold the position — warns that a Donald Trump presidency could keep him from engaging with American mayors.

“If Donald Trump becomes the president I’ll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith, which means I can’t engage with American mayors and swap ideas,” Sadiq Khan said in an interview with Time.

Khan acknowledged New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for their work and said he’d like to go to the United States  "to meet with and engage with American mayors," but a Trump presidency could jeopardize that. The presumptive GOP nominee has proposed a temporary ban on non-citizen Muslims from entering the United States.

Khan said he planned to visit the United States before January in case Trump wins the White House and criticized Trump’s campaign tactics — which he accused conservatives in his race of using.

“Hope, I think, is a good way of persuading people to vote for you, energize and enthuse people,” he said. “I think to try and look for differences, to try and turn communities against each other is not conducive to living successfully and amicably.”

Khan, a member of the Labour Party, was elected mayor last week.

Venezuelan Opposition Leader Assassinated Days After 1.8 Million Sign Petition To Oust Maduro

The situation in hyperinflating socialist paradise Venezuela just moved one step closer to chaotic totalitarianism. With President Maduro clinging to power (thanks to his military 'assistance') amid growing social unrest (1.8 million signatures gathered seeking a referendum to remove him), FoxNews Latino reports German Mavare, leader of the opposition UNT party, died Friday after being shot in the head, asassinated in the western state of Lara, according to his organisation. Maduro has appeared on State TV tying Mavare to "armed groups" and suggested that more right-wing politicians are potential targets.

The Venezuelan people are growing increasingly angry at the nightmare of economic squallor Nicolas Maduro appears to have laid at their door (thanks in large part to an overly-generous socialist agenda runnining out of other people's petrodollars)...

In less than a week, more than 1.8 million people in Venezuela signed petitions seeking a referendum to remove President Nicolas Maduro from office. That's nine times the required 200,000 signatures.

The opposition said in a statement they delivered the petitions in 80 sealed boxes early Monday morning without notifying the media to avoid potential clashes with Maduro’s supporters.

Ousting Maduro will not be an easy task despite his approval rating plummeting amid triple-digit inflation, widespread food shortages and near-daily power blackouts. Recent polls suggest two-thirds of Venezuelans want him out.

If the National Electoral Council verifies the signatures in the coming days, it would trigger a second petition drive during which 20 percent of the electorate, almost 4 million people, would have to sign before a referendum could be scheduled on removing Maduro before his term ends in 2019.

If a vote were held, the president would be removed only if the number of anti-Maduro votes exceeded the 7.6 million votes he received in the 2013 election. In December's parliamentary elections, opposition candidates mustered only 7.7 million even though they won control of the legislature by a landslide.

President Maduro has recently dug in against what he calls opposition attempts to destabilize Venezuela...

Emails From Hillary Clinton’s IT Director at State Department Appear to Be Missing

The State Department said today it can’t find any of Bryan Pagliano’s emails from the time he served as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s senior information technology staffer during her tenure there.

Pagliano would have been required to turn over any official communications from his work account before he left the government. State Department officials say he had an official email account, but that they can't find any of those records and continue to search for them.

“The Department has searched for Mr. Pagliano’s email pst file and has not located one that covers the time period of Secretary Clinton’s tenure,” State Department spokesman Elizabeth Trudeau said today, referencing a file format that holds email.

“To be clear, the Department does have records related to Mr. Pagliano and we are working with Congress and [Freedom of Information Act] requesters to provide relevant material. The Department has located a pst from Mr. Pagliano’s recent work at the Department as a contractor, but the files are from after Secretary Clinton left the Department," Trudeau added.

This statement about Pagliano’s email comes in response to a FOIA request-turned-lawsuit by the Republican National Committee, which wants the State Department to turn over all his emails as well as Clinton’s text and Blackberry Messenger communications. In a court filing today, the RNC said the State Department has told them there are no documents responsive to either of those requests.

Pagliano was responsible for setting up the now-infamous private server in the basement of the Clinton's home in Chappaqua, New York. He has since become a key witness in the FBI inquiry into the handling of sensitive material on that server and has been granted immunity by the Justice Department in exchange for his cooperation.

“It’s hard to believe that an IT staffer who set up Hillary Clinton’s reckless email server never sent or received a single work-related email in the four years he worked at the State Department," the RNC's Deputy Communications Director, Raj Shah, said in a statement to ABC News. "Such records might shed light on his role in setting up Clinton’s server, and why he was granted immunity by the FBI. But it seems that his emails were either destroyed or never turned over, adding yet another layer to the secrecy surrounding his role.”

The State Department also pointed out that the Politico newspaper has previously reported that Pagliano’s emails were unavailable.

It's unclear why the State Department does not have his email records for the time her served as her IT director or whether or not he purposefully withheld them.

When Clinton's emails were published on the State Department's public reading room, only one email of his surfaced. It was a happy birthday message from his private email account to hers. She forwarded it to another staffer instructing him to "pls respond."

Quote
I challenge anyone to come up with reasons to keep cash that outweigh the enormous benefits of getting rid of it. Imagine the worldwide suffering because of crime, from drug dealing to bicycle theft. Crime that requires cash. The Swedish krona is a small currency, used only in Sweden. This is the ideal place to start the biggest crime-preventing scheme ever. We could and should be the first cashless society in the world.—Björn Ulvaeus

Its to bad a story like this does not draw on bitcoin but think they the argument is now that they can track all transactions back to the owner and presuming this will limit crime more than the bitcoin setup. Interesting take on the issue.

So... You're saying... that I can't hire an assassin with 2 sheep and a horse?  Or a bar of gold?  Or a bag of cocaine?

The line of thought appeals to me and I will make a effort to choose my words more in line with how I perceive the world.
Its funny I never really thought to much about the choice of words but I have spent a lot of time thinking about the dynamics.
One of those blinder issues I guess, thanks for pointing that one out to me.

Lots of people are paid to make you forget about this. Retrain your mind to ask "why" and "who" all the time... Especially with everything you read from a 1956 robot called "Wilikon"...

Facebook MADE #BlackLivesMatter Artificially Trend By Inserting It Into News Feeds Manually

Facebook staff manually inserted the “Black Lives Matter” topic into its trending news feed in order to artificially boost the movement’s popularity and in turn boost the Facebook brand, according to a former employee who curated news for the site.

“Facebook got a lot of pressure about not having a trending topic for Black Lives Matter,” the former curator told Gizmodo. “They realized it was a problem, and they boosted it in the ordering. They gave it preference over other topics.”

Facebook has gotten way to big for its britches, was going to post this as well but was thinking their was already a similar thread on the topic of facebook censoring their platform. The bigger they become the more we are going to see them using their to push discussion down a planned narrative. Always get a kick out of the left when they end up just as bad as the far right.
They seem to suffer from what is good for you is what we allow you to see.

The concept of "far right" or "far left" is not new or unique. A group of humans will always believe they have the right to control other humans, and what they believe does not count. The concept is part of us, changing its name every 1.5 centuries or so. This is confusing when you see the left supporting a pro war woman right now, but not much if you realize you need to forget labels and listen and watch their actions.

The difference between "far right" or "far left" becomes blurry. Not so when you see it a quest for total control.
