8001  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mainstream media starts to attack Bitcoin on: March 14, 2013, 05:44:27 PM
Currently established governments and central banks hate stuff like Bitcoin with a passion, so they'll manipulate the media into going after it, just like they do when they're trying to build up war propaganda, we're being told we have to attack Iran and North Korea because they 'may' have developed nuclear capabilities, same thing. Get used to the hate, I personally enjoy it when mainstream media write news articles about Bitcoin because they just show off how utterly ignorant they are about it with every word.

Don't be surprised if you find propaganda against Bitcoin sprouting everywhere like with Bittorrent.

8003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Satoshi Dead? on: March 14, 2013, 04:28:41 PM
50 million dollars is a decent chunk of change for almost any software developer or economist.  It's the kind of stash that, even if you are in Bitcoin for the long haul, the temptation to cash out just 2% of it and buy a yacht or an island or something is just too great.  Not doing so means that you are either extremely wealthy already, or some kind of supervillain who intends to take over the world once Bitcoin is in more widespread use.  I don't think either description fits.  I'm thinking that, by now, there are only two options as to why this hasn't happened:

1) Satoshi's coins are lost

2) Satoshi's coins are in the hands of some kind of corporate entity

Either of these scenarios has implications for the future of Bitcoin.

You're assuming Satoshi was just one person human... that's not necessarily the case.

fixed that lol Tongue

Honestly, if whoever this Satoshi person was wanted to do anything nefarious or silly, why would they make it open source and available for everyone to look at? The logic some people use for this kind of thing doesn't make sense.
8004  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am not a libertarian, can I still use Bitcoin? on: March 14, 2013, 04:22:28 PM
Bitcoin is a currency and a tool, there is no political ideology behind it though one could certainly argue that politics are fueling Bitcoin to a certain extent. I'm a mixture of anarchist and libertarian beliefs but I am in no way connected to Ron Paul or the tea party. The beauty of Bitcoin is that it is governed by mathematics and not politics, many times I've been very grateful for that when I look at the stupid mob attempts on this forum to get something about it changed.

You also have other alternative currencies springing up you can use like Litecoin because of Bitcoins open source nature, but they haven't gained as much influence as Bitcoin has just yet, what you use is entirely your choice.

Why don't you put yourself on BTCJam? That way you can build up some trust.
8006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: U.S. to let spy agencies scour Americans' finances on: March 14, 2013, 02:31:47 PM
Bitcoin users are affected, you still gotta get your money out.

Thanks for the article, the harder they dig the more i feel like throwing away my plastic and moving back to paper

Well not really, it's true for the basics we still have to use paper money and they can do things like trace that through the exchanges, but as as been talked about many times, the amount of trouble it would cause them to go and catch all the Bitcoin users out there would be ridiculous, when we see farmers and real estate agents etc. openly accepting Bitcoin that's when things are going to get nasty.
8007  Economy / Economics / Re: Worried about coins being lost? You have bigger worries! on: March 14, 2013, 10:48:36 AM
Thank you! Someone who actually understands economics! Bitcoin doesn't get affected by price changes the same way paper money does, it's only merchants and traders that get worried about exchange rates and so on and yes prices change all the time, it's the people that decide that now so you have to decide whether or not something is actually worth that many Bitcoins rather than automatically tie it to your countries' currency.

*sigh* Tongue

It's not that charity is bad, it's more that it's easily contaminated by discrimination. Charity is the act of choosing who gets the privilege and who is left behind. In my own society, we have another mentality, more of the type "no one left behind", that's may be why I don't like charity that much.

You know how you don't discriminate don't you? Mathematics and a brain OOOOOOO! Tongue It's like how I don't give to major charities because I know just how much they get tax free and how a lot of it goes to 'administration' costs, I got pretty pissed recently with people from charities who claimed on the radio that the 1 billion they were getting ( seriously 1 fucking billion and I think it was either in pound or euros ) was not enough to help the people in Syria long term.

Charity may have it's problems but they're far better and more single minded than a government who is far more likely to extort you for money and use a large percentage of that money to pay for their armies and equipment than anything genuinely useful to their people.

Edit: I just re-read my post and realised it's a bit daft since I wrote it while I was sleepy, while it's true you can choose not to discriminate by mathematics and brain, humans are discriminating by nature, sorry about that >_<
8009  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Keeps You in BTC for the Long Haul? on: March 14, 2013, 10:04:09 AM
Open source, it's the wave of the future, especially if anyone can make any currency they like Wink I wouldn't have taken an interest in Bitcoin if they hadn't released the source code for everyone to tinker with.
8010  Other / Politics & Society / Re: End of Governments on: March 14, 2013, 09:57:33 AM
Wrong - that's called tax evasion.

So what? That's why Bitcoin was invented.

Actually, if we want to get technical, Bitcoin is pretty much tax avoidance rather than tax evasion, tax evasion means you're still in the country with your wealth etc. not paying taxes from what I understand, tax avoidance means you're just not wanting to pay taxes at all and stay away from it? I think that's how it works but there's two definitions but tax avoidance is where you go out of the country to stay away from paying taxes. I think Bitcoin either falls somewhere in between or something because we're all putting our wealth in our computers to avoid paying for taxes rather than just simply not pay them at all, it's a whole new currency and you could argue it's like making a country on the internet rather than just simply not pay taxes which is what tax evasion is supposed to be.

Now I understand why the governments haven't said anything much about Bitcoin yet LOL this is a headache.

Don't say I didn't warn you guys about blackmailers Smiley now they can't scam people through fake businesses they're going after the real businesses that have sprung up lately
8012  Other / Politics & Society / Re: End of Governments on: March 13, 2013, 12:33:04 PM
The governments were bound to collapse with or without Bitcoin, what Bitcoin does is make it so that people who are wise enough to at least diversify in Bitcoin don't suffer because of their actions.

I can understand the frustration, I've complained about it myself, in the end, I'm just giving up and adopting Bitcoin because it's just so much more convenient and easier to use than the conventional paper money.
8015  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Thinking about buying an ASIC on: March 13, 2013, 05:59:23 AM
Honestly I'm highly suspicious of Butterfly, I'd maybe look at Avalon because they've actually bothered to ship them as promised but of course everyone seems to have already gone to them so it's doubtful you'll get one any time soon unless you're lucky or they increase production massively.

8018  Other / Politics & Society / Re: I hate socialism but..... shouldn't a nations resources be nationalized? on: March 13, 2013, 05:40:48 AM
What I find a lot of people who support these kind of socialistic or communist ideologies is that what they are supporting is thievery, either through stealth inflation or direct taxation, I'm all for spreading the wealth around, I'd even be for building roads etc. in inhospitable places so it would make peoples lives easier. What I can't stand though is people who use emotional blackmail and extortion to get their way.

All the time we hear about how it would be a disaster if we got rid of taxes but of course these arrogant people don't realise there is such a thing as charity which shows you how little they trust their fellow humans, if governments really do end up collapsing because of Bitcoin the first thing I'm going to do is donate to some hospitals Smiley

Edit: Excellent! Everythings working great now! Thanks! Smiley It's nice and quick too, I've always found that Open Cart stuff way too clunky.
8020  Economy / Economics / Re: Cheapest housing? on: March 13, 2013, 03:05:58 AM
It depends on the area as well though Notme as well as living standards etc. for instance, in the UK we have a stupid problem and I mean really stupid problem with car insurance, so while you could get a house outside the city, if it turns out to be that the outskirts are a rough area then it'll be more expensive than living in the city where the shops are all in walking distance and so on because you're having to pay for the car.
