I think the real "mind blown" moment of the conversation was when I agreed that corporate America was probably more willing to harm people than local drug dealers are.

It's actually interesting you and your friend think that because on the news they reported that some drug dealers are stopping in some areas because of all the problems that the drug addicts themselves cause.

It's like being in one of those terrible action movies where everyone else thinks you're crazy and then evil government agents are kicking down your door and digging through your stuff >_< for some reason though people seem to think it's okay if it's on the internet.
8205  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: best way to get bitcoins on: February 18, 2013, 04:29:32 PM
I am earning 5-10 bitcoins a day for free with the better btc websites.

lolwut, so you don't have a need for a job then seeing as you are pulling down 48K-96K USD per year.

I'd watch people like this, since they mostly seem to be made up of new posters they're probably trying to get you to sign up so they can datafarm for Bitcoin addresses similar to the way everyone tries to get you to sign up to stuff with emails now.
8206  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: best way to get bitcoins on: February 18, 2013, 03:44:37 PM
I guess the best way to obtain bitcoins is to set up your own business, open an ecommerce website and start accepting bitcoins for goods that you are selling!

Honestly it is, either accept Bitcoins for services you can provide or sell off stuff in return for Bitcoins, mining takes a long time and fries perfectly good hardware, you already have websites to sell stuff at like Bitmit if you aren't really tech savvy.
8207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin isn't going to make it: The National Security Agency on: February 18, 2013, 09:50:51 AM
I don't understand cryptography lol but I understand open source, what's to stop someone from making something entirely new that NSA can't touch? While I can understand the fear I am also very skeptical because a lot of the people who work in government are, lets face it, old white people who couldn't open up a word document without any help.

Never underestimate the intellectual capacity of an angry child with an internet connection and a keyboard.
8208  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why bitcoin isn't going to make it: The National Security Agency on: February 18, 2013, 09:44:46 AM
They could only take over Bitcoin if it was owned by one person, but the code is open source and distributed everywhere, Bitcoin supporters already won long term ages ago and they can't do anything about it.

8210  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: For real? Today's BitCoin (BTC) price in USD is 1 BTC for $26.97. on: February 18, 2013, 07:13:40 AM
It is mental, I'm still amazed that I might be able to own a full house and car in my lifetime.
8211  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: [Announcement] AnonymousAds v2 on: February 18, 2013, 06:59:21 AM
You just need to explain what ad units and ads are and things like that, after clicking around it was obvious what the ads and ad units are but most ordinary people I suspect will be wtfing all over the place especially with the cart system which I'm a bit baffled by.
8212  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcointalk Trolls on: February 18, 2013, 06:38:56 AM
Ahhh the old 'you're butthurt' troll, have to admit anyone who resorts to that nowadays really is just a troll for the most part because they aren't trying to have any kind of intelligent conversation.
8213  Economy / Economics / Re: Is This Where The Secret JP Morgan London Gold Vault Is Located? on: February 17, 2013, 04:08:41 PM
I must have some c4 around here somewhere

Thermite would be perfect for that job actually and you can make it from stuff you buy in a hardware store Tongue
8214  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gold bugs ignoring bitcoin? on: February 17, 2013, 09:37:37 AM
IMHO its going to take the hardcore goldbugs longer than the normal person because they have to unlearn some things that are frankly wrong. One of them is the idea that there is such a thing as intrinsic value, and another is that the value is equivalent to spot price.

Heck, it took me over a year after hearing about bitcoins to finally understand the real value.

The term 'real' value though is itself wrong though, value is only defined by how much someone is willing to pay for something, if everyone was utterly loyal to governments etc. Bitcoin wouldn't have nearly as much influence as it's gaining now Tongue
8215  Economy / Economics / Re: Currency circulation. Can someone help me? on: February 17, 2013, 09:28:31 AM
That's a tough one, because Bitcoin is so new and pretty anonymous it's going to be pretty difficult to tell how it will circulate, the only thing I can do is point you in the direction of Gold/Silver because they were originally deflationary currencies similar to Bitcoin, you may want to try some different terms to circulation.

I think this is fairly accurate, searching for this type of thing is just going to be a matter of patience and trying out different words Tongue short version of it all I think is, central banks print money, banks receive it and lend it out to other businesses and people, with Bitcoin miners get it and then spend it at places then it just gets traded around constantly, with gold/silver, the miners dig it out of the ground and then sell it off and of course that gets traded amongst everyone as well.

Actually if we look at history with stuff like the Roman Empire and the Persian Empire etc. we'll probably find something on that.

There we go, look for stuff like this, Byzantine empire as well would be a good place to look.
8216  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Telecom giants take sides as FCC proposes large public WiFi networks on: February 17, 2013, 09:20:13 AM
That's it MJGrae, they're screaming about how everyone will get free wi-fi while quietly mentioning they'll be the ones who own the entire network.
8217  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Am i wrong thinking Butterflylabs is the end of Bitcoins ? on: February 17, 2013, 09:17:51 AM
It isn't the end of Bitcoin but the end of Bitcoin mining and that means that Bitcoin will be used as a currency as opposed to a silly get rich scheme, Bitcoin was never intended to be purely about mining and it's actually been incredibly well designed for a real economy that isn't run by central banks, so the short version of it all is yes, you're very wrong Tongue
8218  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The criminal element on: February 17, 2013, 09:00:37 AM
It looks like my prejudices about this sort of thing is correct, whenever something bad happens that humans caused a lot of humans prefer to blame the inanimate object rather than the human.

Yes, not much we can do except wait unfortunately.
8220  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How much is "a lot" of bitcoin? on: February 16, 2013, 08:54:20 AM
It's disheartening to get into bitcoin so late in the game. With ASICs coming out, it's completely unrealistic for anyone to try to get into mining.
Users with over 1k coins, and over 100k coins are the same users that got into the ASIC market when it was first announced.
It's turning out to be just like all other money in the world with the majority of it being controlled by the top few players.

Trust me, deflationary currencies are like nothing you'll have ever experienced, the only reason people won't be able to make money with Bitcoins in this economy is because everyone is too focused on mining, I'm already beginning to see places I frequent accept Bitcoin. Once most people start getting fed up with mining then we'll start to see a real economy growing and it will make the paper currency economies look ridiculous.

Don't mine for profit, set up a business or do some work for Bitcoins instead, it's easier on your computer and more cost effective Tongue
