I think the strength of gravity on our planet is what's preventing a lot of ideas from working I'd be pretty interested in experimenting with electricity in space but the problem is getting up there in a fairly cheap and efficient way to begin with, but once we solve that problem we'll hardly have anything holding us back. I'm curious for instance as what you could do with electricity on low gravity environments like the moon.
This is why I'm so hopeful about materials like graphene, because it will probably mean we'll be able to develop techniques where we can make some extremely light weight metal that wouldn't take several tons of thrust to get up in the air.
Look up the idea of a space elevator. There is tons of research going on right now investigating composite materials and carbon nanofibers and such, materials are getting stronger and lighter and cheaper. On the thread topic: the introduction of ASICs has the effect of increasing the computational power of the network and lowering the electrical power consumption because they are much more energy efficient than previous technologies. Gravity will bitch slap that plan out of orbit I reckon, I've always thought over time the part that's in the atmosphere will just collapse, I suppose though with the new materials being discovered it might be possible, just maybe, you'd also have to account for all sorts of weather problems for the part of the elevator that's in the atmosphere and that would be exceptionally difficult to handle with such a long lot of material. Whenever you think up these ideas you have to think about them on a massive industrial scale and think about how much it will all cost otherwise for the purposes of solving our problem of expensive electricity it's going to be pretty useless.

The problem as I've seen it explained is that because electrons are constantly moving you can't store them in there raw form, you have to either have the ability to constantly generate electricity ( which seems impossible with our current knowledge ) or the more practical option that we already do of converting the generated electricity into chemical energy and stored in batteries, the problem with this idea is our batteries suck right now and if they do work well they're incredibly expensive to run or even replace once they wear out. That's my understanding of it anyway and now I need to research potential energy properly as well >_< LOL

The fact that I no longer have to be held ransom to a rigged economy that forces me to fund my governments war efforts alone is something extremely valuable to me, with how well Bitcoin is working at the moment I may consider just donating directly to the NHS if the government starts going bankrupt from either printing too much or Bitcoin becoming really popular I think I'm right in saying most people love being able to be on a level playing field and even more like not having there money messed with.

I love how many people want to try and spy on their fellow Bitcoin users, I suppose this is just a great way of testing whether Bitcoins anonymity is working correctly.

Do you guys watch Game of Thrones? That's pretty much what I imagine is happening in a lot of western governments minus the white walkers and dragons of course

Ewwww Environmentalist! >_< But seriously, if you feel that way we already have solar and wind power available, what sucks balls is our ability to store electricity, if we can store electricity for long periods of time in batteries ( I KNOW YOU'RE OUT THERE TO LECTURE ME SCIENTISTS I KNOW ABOUT CHEMICAL AND KINETIC ENERGY ) so that way we won't be as dependent on the other stuff anymore.

There certainly are bullshit statistics but with your current lack of understanding I'm afraid you're not qualified to call them that other than if you're just repeating someone else. But again, if you're repeating without having properly understood the reason something may be bullshit then you're leaving yourself open to questioning or criticism that you're unable to defend. Claiming I don't understand it doesn't make me wrong but unfortunately for you I understand it far more than I like you don't even need to look anything up specific to find what I'm talking about but just look at almost every statistics quoted by most political or religious ideologies out there. Not only that you even have magazines like New Scientist calling them out and even pointing out terribly bad science people used in order to sell chemical products we use every day. Anyway, I've decided I'm not going to be that bothered about people who have already made there minds up on me on the spot because I know I'm correct regardless, on the internet I've noticed a remarkable thing where people tend to argue less and less about the actual subject and more about the personality of the person behind the computer they've made up in their heads. The gun thing was just an example I thought some people here would be able to relate to easily but I didn't think it would so easily cause people to fly off the handle lol Kind of reminds me of political debates actually maybe that's where everyone gets it from O_O

My problem is both with the statistic quoted by Puppet ( Ironic nickname ) and just about all these sorts of statistics, I've ranted about how wrong a lot of them are before and even the ones that show some consistency shouldn't necessarily be considered as examples or proof that laws or stereotypes about people or objects is true. I'll give out a more local one for instance since you said your in Wales, I'm sure you know about the shitty situation we have when it comes to car insurance particularly with young drivers, car insurance companies claim that under 25 etc. are involved in accidents so they charge more because of the risk, but lets backup a few minutes. They've been saying it for years now, with how high they've been pricing and the prices they charge could only be done if they either caused a multi-car pileup on a motorway ( I'm not joking because I've seen prices of £22,000 a year ) or if they drove a tank into some buildings. Not only that they've decided that somehow even with decade old cars which are falling to pieces and more of a threat to the driver than anyone else are a threat with someone young at the wheel. Then there's the fact that more recently those statistics even if they were a 100% are going to be wrong now because the majority of young drivers will be forced off the road because of the stupidly high prices. It's not a misunderstanding, statistics a lot of the time are a load of bullshit, it doesn't matter if they paint it pink and spray it with perfume or state it isn't bullshit, it still is, Puppet, I've always said I'm shit at math but per 100k is still meaningless to the millions that are left out and then you still have situations where the 100k in that group will all have varying situations, backgrounds and experiences, the problem is you're applying math to something that isn't logical, humanity doesn't follow mathematics, they just use it as a tool. Adding to that, you can't just group everyone together, we all do it at times but when you're actually trying to apply a law or rule to that will be enforced it's a shitty thing to do to people which is why they take it personally because it may not even apply to them.

It's irrelevant, are any of you from America? If so you'd know that those political polls those guys have are a load of bollocks as well, 100k is not enough to represent a population of 60 odd million much like how you can't declare that 2,000 people is an accurate representation of the opinions and political ideologies of a country that has over 300 million people in it.
You can get a fairly good gauge of what's going on in the world from this data with a large enough sample size but to call it factual or mathematically accurate enough to use in a law that will affect everyone is ridiculous, I see this kind of bullshit everywhere though.

Nice to see this in writing and not video anymore but it still makes me angry and I'm British lol Gun control doesn't prevent deaths, what's increased over here is knife crime. UK still has ~5x fewer violent deaths per 100K than the US. It has fewer violent deaths because there is a lower population and smaller land mass you idiot >_< you can't compare the UK and US violent crime statistics because of these two simple facts, I love how political ideologies often throw basic math out of the window in order to justify their bullshit. Debt problem? = Increase the volume of currency and borrow even more Gun problem? = scream for a ban and justify it by comparing two completely different countries with each other

We have a regulator in Britain called OFCOM and the BBC are supposed to be impartial about everything they report on, trust me, it doesn't work, the best thing that ever happened to media was the internet purely because anyone can post anything on it.

I think they're right unfortunately, Bitcoin is going to start being used more like a currency now, the difficulty is just going to get too high for most people to make any profit from it, so I suggest you go and do stuff for Bitcoins instead, thankfully that can actually be done because of it being decentralised etc. unlike paper money

I can predict the weather because I have Tree Pollen allergies and my knuckles get eczema when it drops below 0 and gets really dry which means there's a likelihood of snow. Currently, I have no bleeding knuckles and I feel like I'm getting the flu, so that means I need to grab some tablets and wait until spring/summer is over p.s. fuck the trees, bunch of pollen spewing cunts

Bleh, ignore them wish I had known about this years ago, the mainstream news at least don't understand shit about science and you can see it in the questions they ask or the way they write.

Call me cynical, but I think Alex Jones is paid by someone to make conspiracy theorists look idiotic.
The thing is I do think conspiracy theorists are idiotic, it is right to keep asking questions but what conspiracy theorists do is form their own conclusions without even looking at facts or circumstantial evidence and of course you have governments taking advantage of that and painting anyone who questions them with the same brush.

LOL Does anyone remember that anonymous woman who posted up a letter about feminism? It was posted on here awhile ago, basically the OP reminded me quite a bit of that.
