FYI: The humans handling the new account recoveries system which was implemented late last year are a company that Cyrus created called Cryptios. alanst, 3dOOm, and Rizzrack -- the "mysterious newbies" who some people noticed -- are three of their employees. They've been doing a great job.

Although Cyrus created the company with bitcointalk.org in mind as their first customer, they are accepting additional customers. Their main specialization right now is high-security, social-engineering-proof customer support & community moderation.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5138349.0

8482  Bitcoin / Wallet software / c-lightning 0.7.2 just released on: August 22, 2019, 04:03:28 AM
New Release: c-lightning 0.7.2

Quote
Plugin improvements: External contributor Antoine Poinsot contributed dynamic plugins: this means you can now add and remove plugins to a running lightning daemon without restarting.
New plugin notifications: invoice_payment tells you when an invoice has been paid, forward_event tells you when an HTLC is forwarded and channel_opened tells you when a new channel has been opened.
Better handling of peer errors: together with Connor Fromknecht of Lightning Labs, we diagnosed and fixed a problem where we would receive a mysterious “sync error”. We now ignore this, as it was responsible for the majority of unilateral channel closes we were seeing.
Better startup documentation: the README.md file has been overhauled, lightningd now has its own manual page, and there’s a helper script to connect you to a few long-lived nodes when your node first starts up.

8483  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin currency stability on: August 21, 2019, 11:54:42 PM
Bitcoin has started reacting to some economic news that affect USA and other developed countries and that is a sign of interest from citizens of those countries. I think bitcoin should benefit from the financial crisis or trade war between China and USA and it should naturally influence bitcoin price as investors will flip stocks and other securities to bitcoin as a safe heaven.

What made you say that? Recently, the domestic woes between China and Hong Kong was thought to push either country to hedge their wealth on bitcoin, but so far we haven't seen the effect. But as so far as the impact of the China-US trade war, it is still 50/50 in my opinion. If could have an impact, but it's gonna be short term though. Investors will likely put their wealth to a stable investments like gold or even real state.

What I wanna know is how did he got so much attention from all around the world? I mean newspapers and to or just simply all media gives him way too much credit, I know he is a attention liking guy but nobody in their right mind should give this guy a mic to talk, how does he get all that attention?

He suddenly burst into the scene, I read somewhere that he became interested in crypto or bitcoin in general when he left MGT Technologies. Shift his attention to bitcoin and then make an unusual and out of this world predictions. And suddenly people started to follow him and buying his craft, then became this so called crypto influencer which doesn't make any sense at all.

I get that he once built one of the best anti-virus companies and if I am not wrong he sold it for a lot of money but right now he is literally nobody, he has absolutely no say in bitcoin and he doesn't even seem like a bitcoin expert in the crypto world, we only see him as an idiot. So if these media people just want to get clicks and what not then why are they spending time with him? We don't care and people who are not in crypto don't care neither, so it makes no sense.

He is no bitcoin or even blockchain expert, he just ride the popularity and people started to think that just because he build one of the successful anti-virus in the world and is a (borderline) genius he could probably do good with his predictions in crypto sphere as well. But we all know it won't happen.

Joakim Noah vs Dwight Howard as replacement for Boogie, who you got?

As far as having the right mentality of the game? I would pick Noah, hard worker that doesn't complain as much as Dwight Howard though. He will simply play the game as hard as he can to contribute whether it is in defense by getting the ball and make the opposing team to think twice before driving in the middle.

I'm with Noah. Although he doesn't put up the same number of rebounds/points, I think he plays better off the ball. Lebron and AD will surely get most of the ball and Noah can help out opening the lane.

Exactly, he can help in the ball rotation or can simply be the recipient of James assists.
8486  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I LOST 0.40 BTC BECAUSE OF AN GMAIL ACCOUNT on: August 20, 2019, 05:26:04 AM
It's not Google's fault here. What happen is that his gmail account was hack but we don't know if he had set up 2FA (but he says he received sms) so I'm confused as to how he was hacked, unless the hacker had his physical phone taken (or lost) to be able to login.

With regards to losing .4 BTC, I'm assuming all his information is on that email and that's how the hacker was able to login on exchanges and stole his BTC. But we need more clarification from the OP.

The Miocic-Cormier 2 was really the highlight of UFC 241. Both fighters were just rolling through the punches and it was an awesome slugfest. Cormier may have spent too much energy trying to finish Miocic early and he could no longer sustain it in the championship rounds. Great strategy and thinking for Miocic going to the body.

Correct, even if Miocic was battered in the early rounds, his chin really hold up and DC slowing down gives him the perfect opportunity to turn the tide into his favour. He saw the opening, took his chance specially with the body shot and it paid off in the end.

The Diaz-Pettis did not live up to the hype I think.

Pettis is done already.

I'm really stoked for khabib vs poirier although I don't think poirier has any real chance, I mean he lost badly against Mcgregor, how is he going to win against Khabib? He doesn't have better wrestling and his stand up skills are perhaps a bit better but still, seems extremely unlikely.

Poirier be better prepare with Khabib's takedown, otherwise it will be just McGregor vs Khabib fight, one-sided.

Draymond started to get a bit more like the day he started to argue with KD on that last possession day. Dude is not a clean player, he does a lot of bad things and we all remember his old "shooting motion" thing and what not which is why he was never really liked in the league, dude was just a dirty player simple as that. However he stopped doing all his other dirty stuff but kept his good defense and he has really shown leadership.

On top of my list as a defensive player award being dirty? Dennis Rodman and Ron Artest. So that's their style, trying to intimidate and rough players in the paint. But in the end, I would say that it is very effective, because the game is very physical. As a fan, we might not like what we've seen, but then again those guys really knows how to take advantage and again the intimidating factor.

Curry is definitely the best player in that team, Klay is amazing shooter and what not but no matter who you ask Draymond is the leader of that team, he really knows how to handle teammates and how to pump them up and talks a lot during the game so it is easy to give him 100 million. It is of course a bit of "thanks for what you have done for us" but at at the same time some of it is for the future leadership as well.

Draymond said that he decided to stay with GSW because the core team is still there, so still likes what he is seeing plus adding Russell in the line up makes him more exciting to stay in with the GSW organisation with a cool $100 million.

Heto report ko:

Code:
You have reported 81 posts with 100% accuracy (70 good, 0 bad, 11 unhandled).

@tokeweed - how much you won on Stipe?  Grin. From day one you have been talking about Stipe taking this one so I assume you made a significant bet. Good call!!

I think its more of DC getting tired and gassing out and Miocic taking advantage of it. The landscape has change again with this win and more story board (I'm sounding like @bbc.reporter here Cheesy) branching out.

Congrats to those who won in this event.
8492  Other / Meta / Re: Cleaning up the house in Bitcoin/ Altcoin/ Gambling Discussion boards on: August 18, 2019, 04:45:45 AM
I've long given up on the altcoin-boards, but Bitcoin Discussion should be much cleaner.
I notice a lot of people who mainly post links to bitcoinist.com or cointelegraph.com. No doubt they're being paid for it.

Thank you LoyceV, I been noticing that as well, and I went as far as 6-7 page deep of the Bitcoin Discussion thread and reported as least 10 post in the last 12 hours. Those guys are really paid shill, just posting the articles links without giving their thoughts, worst, there was one newbie, just posting the link. Luckily all my reports are 100% success.

Shouldn't this be restricted to the Press board? They basically just copy some text, add a link, and create a topic.
Or, as an alternative, these links could be restricted to one big topic only. There's no need to create many different threads only to promote a certain website.

I think they should be just restricted to Press Board. However, it doesn't make sense if those shill accounts (mostly newbies), will just post the link. It's better if they can stir some discussions.
8493  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Muli natin bisitahin ang Phishing at iba't ibang uri nito. on: August 17, 2019, 11:42:19 PM

Which is I observed phishing ay may malaking share sa mga lost funds whether from a famous or not famous exchange, gambling, mixers, wallets etc. here in Crypto industry this past 2017 till now. That's why dapat talaga may enough knowledge lahat ng nagwo'work online kahit hindi crypto related.

Eddie Hearn warns Andy Ruiz Jr to honour Saudi venue for Joshua fight

Eddie Hearn has warned Andy Ruiz Jr he must honour the contract for his rematch with Anthony Joshua in Saudi Arabia after the Mexican-American insisted the bout would take place in the United States.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2019/aug/14/eddie-hearn-andy-ruiz-anthony-joshua-rematch-saudi-warns
Ruiz dont want no part of a Saudi Arabia rematch he says bring it back to America

There could be legal battle here if Andy Ruiz doesn't want to go to Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, maybe he just wanted more money, after all he is the champion here. But make no mistake about it, Anthony Joshua here is still the A-side so if I'm Andy Ruiz he should be better moving his ass and fight in Saudi and prove that he fight is no fluke.

Ruiz might be hyping the fight so that he is showing that kind of attitude. Yes, maybe he just wanted more money being offered to him because he is the champion. But he needs to realized that he sign a contract that a rematch would happen. He might not agree with the venue, but he doesn't want to go to a legal battle here because in the end it will just damage his career and reputation. He is acting like a diva now, I think upsetting Joshua and winning the belt gets into his mind and it is not a healthy sign.

I agree that Ruiz is hyping the fight, and will just sign the contract to fight Anthony Joshua in Saudi. Eddie Hearn is also a powerful man in boxing, so Ruiz needs to cooperate otherwise his career can be ruin by these powerful boxing managers in the industry.

8495  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Bearish short term but Bullish long term on: August 17, 2019, 12:26:57 PM
We should look at the bigger picture here, what we have seen is just a minor correction, that what's been happening since we made a run from April-Aug. There will be times that we thought that the bears has taken over the market again. And the next thing we know, the bulls are back and people started to FOMO again. So I would not be surprise to see roller coaster ride and then investors taking the opportunity for every dip to fatten their wallet.

And Linares against LOmachecnko, he was beaten so badly stopping him in the tenth round
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2AHunLq9xQ
I beg to disagree that Linares was badly beaten by Loma on that fight. It was close and Linares could have won the fight if not for that "liver shot" that put Linares on his knees. Loma got trouble fighting tall guys but he always find ways and it is interesting to see what would he do with Campbell.

Loma's excuses is that he had hurt his hands so basically he is boasting of beating Linares with just one hand. But the height of Campbell is what we really need to look in this fight. I mean he is huge he can even be a a full welterweight someday. He should take advantage of it being the tallest and he is also a power puncher.

If you are using Libre Office you should be very careful about what files you are opening.
Just Opening A Document in LibreOffice Can Hack Your Computer (Unpatched)

Quote
You should be extra careful about what document files you open using the LibreOffice software over the next few days.
That's because LibreOffice contains a severe unpatched code execution vulnerability that could sneak malware into your system as soon as you open a maliciously-crafted document file.

There is no fix yet but in the next few days the LibreOffice team will come out with an patch. Until then stay away from any suspicious files.

They have patched this vulnerabilities, unfortunately, it wasn't enough, so everyone needs to update patched version 6.2.6/6.3.0.

Quote
Apparently, the patch for this vulnerability was insufficient, as The Hacker News also reported late last month, which allowed two separate security researchers to bypass the patch and re-enable the attack by exploiting two new vulnerabilities, as explained below:

CVE-2019-9850: Discovered by Alex Inführ, the vulnerability in LibreOffice exists due to insufficient URL validation that allows malicious attackers to bypass the protection added to patch CVE-2019-9848 and again trigger calling LibreLogo from script event handlers.

CVE-2019-9851: Discovered by Gabriel Masei, this flaw resides in a separate feature where documents can specify pre-installed scripts, just like LibreLogo, which can be executed on various global script events such as document-open, etc.

Don't forget about catphishing as well. That's when some dude pretends to be a female to try get their victim to let their guard down and send them bitcoins (because obviously a woman would never scam anyone - they're far too nice for that). Seen it happen a fair few times here and there's probably much more that we don't see as people will be too embarrassed to come clean and then also all the attempted times - users like Alia etc: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3032057.0
8500  Other / Beginners & Help / [Warning]Clipsa – Multipurpose password stealer on: August 16, 2019, 02:43:59 PM
I just thought to share this to everyone, I saw this in our local boards here: [MALWARE] Crypto Stealing Malware Clipsa Targeted Computers in the Philippines by rosezionjohn

Report says that the malicious malware has stolen around 3 BTC not that big but the thing is that it can continue to infect a lot of pc's around the world and the number could grow in months.

What makes this scary is that this malware targeted crypto wallets. As per this blog post by Avast:

Quote
High level overview

Clipsa is a multipurpose password stealer, written in Visual Basic, focusing on stealing cryptocurrencies, brute-forcing and stealing administrator credentials from unsecured WordPress websites, replacing crypto-addresses present in a clipboard, and mining cryptocurrencies on infected machines. Several versions of Clipsa also deploy an XMRig coinminer to make even more money from infected computers.

Clipsa spreads as a malicious executable file, likely disguised as codec pack installers for media players. Once on an infected device, Clipsa can perform multiple actions, such as searching for cryptowallet addresses present in victims’ clipboards to then replace the addresses victims want to send money to with wallet addresses owned by the bad actors behind Clipsa. Furthermore, Clipsa is capable of searching for and stealing wallet.dat files, and installing a cryptocurrency miner.

Additionally, Clipsa uses infected PCs to crawl the internet for vulnerable WordPress sites. Once it finds a vulnerable site, it attempts to brute-force its way into the site, sending the valid login credentials to Clipsa’s C&C servers. While we cannot say for sure, we believe the bad actors behind Clipsa steal further data from the breached sites. We also suspect they use the infected sites as secondary C&C servers to host download links for miners, or to upload and store stolen data.

You can read all the details here:

https://decoded.avast.io/janrubin/clipsa-multipurpose-password-stealer/

Again, we need to be safe and be careful as we don't want to be the next victim here.

I also did saw removal guide here, but I'm not certain how effective it is.
