I'd love resources as well. And thanks a lot for your help, Queezy, Smiley. You're awesome!
Awww, Thank you =)
My first official compliment. =)

lol, I'm glad it came from me then, :p. Bookmark that comment and anytime you have a bad day, reflect on it!
8582  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] [TAT.VIRTUALMINE] Virtual Mining - Hash Without Hardware! on: June 15, 2013, 04:50:03 AM
That is a big part of it yes, but also don't give in to emotions and overreact. This is the hardest part of most trading =)
I haven't found any really good sources yet that talk about trading in bitcoins or bitcoin related stocks, but most of the things you learn about other stock exchanges, as well as forex markets can be a big help. The bitcoin market is still very young though, so some crazy things can and do still happen.
If anyone knows some good places to research please do share them, maybe even in a new thread as to not clog this one with unrelated topics.

I'd love resources as well. And thanks a lot for your help, Queezy, Smiley. You're awesome!

8584  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do i delete the receiving Bitcoin addresses in the Bitcoin client? on: June 15, 2013, 04:38:45 AM
Correct. You cannot delete receiving addresses. Doing so has no benefits, and would cause you to lose all coins you ever received with that address, as well as any coins you might receive at that address in the future, hence the software does not allow you to even try to do this.

Why do you want them out of sight? Are you never planning to receive anything to any of those addresses again?

Not yet.  I have a public address for almost every Bitcoin account i use.  I imagine there will possibly be a time when some of these websites will die and my address book will just more cluttered than necessary.

You can always change the titles of the addresses as well. I've "recycled" a few of my addresses like that to keep things clean.
That makes sense.  Thx

NP! Just as another heads-up, any transactions you've already rec'd with an address will still show the previous "description," so you don't have to worry about confusing your incoming payments either. Ex. if you had one named "Incoming" and it had gotten 0.01 BTC and then you renamed it "Incoming#2" and got another 0.01 BTC, they would each, while having the same address, show their respective description at the time the payment came in.
8585  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] [TAT.VIRTUALMINE] Virtual Mining - Hash Without Hardware! on: June 15, 2013, 04:36:39 AM

Well, the issue is that with the quickly rising hash-rates, it's going to become less and less valuable. While it may be 10% this month, next month it could be 3%, then 0.1%, etc.

I'm mostly trying to figure out if I should jump in on this now or just keep the BTC (based on number crunching I don't see the dividends paying off based on the current stock prices). I could be wrong, of course.

I feel that this is the biggest issue that people don't realize about VM. The dividend will get smaller, but the price of the bond will also fluctuate based on the expected dividend!

So many people here are calculating ROI as if the price could never drop below the IPO price...

You lost me here. You're saying that as the dividends drop, the price probably will as well. That makes it an even worse investment, wouldn't it? Being that you can't even sell it for what you bought it for?

This is the why you not only have to research into your investments, but also keep an eye on them.
The price/share can (and I think will) still go up since, as everyone has pointed out, it is currently outperforming most other dividend style investments. I am not the creator of this, TAT is, but if I was going to start this fund I would have placed the IPO price at below what I thought it was actually worth(which I think he did.) This just makes it even more likely that the market would take notice and sweep them up quickly.
If you are worried about the price going down, just make sure you keep an eye on the prices so it doesn't go under what you consider to be your limit for the dividends you will be receiving.
I'm not going to look up current prices&dividends and do the math, because I am tired Wink but if you have received enough through dividends to make up for the price drop and you are still making decent profit then it is a good investment.
Don't forget that by keeping an eye on it, you can sell a couple of shares when the price is up and buy when they are a little lower to increase your overall holdings.
In my opinion, a lot of people using the term ROI are used to using the math for calculating hardware profitability. While there are a lot of similarities in the math, some things have to be looked at a little different.

So to my original statement (tl;dr) Do research & watch what your money is doing. Math is fun when it's profit =)

I've got ya now. I'm new to stocks so basically the trick is to watch it carefully and react when the time is right.

Can you also make a statement on why many people can report someone for harassment and going from thread to thread calling anything/everything a "scam" and making up stories and yet still not do anything about it?

Not trying to be a jerk about it; I'm genuinely curious as to why things like this haven't been dealt with yet.
Many things happen behind-the-scenes that you don't see. Typically, in these cases, we first send them a warning. If they don't stop, we ask theymos to consider a ban. Sadly, with theymos being so busy and unwilling to delegate banning decisions, this part can take awhile. Because the issue is not spamming, we're also not allowed to delete the posts.

It's spam when someone goes into a thread and literally responds to every single post with "SCAM SCAM >>>> LOL SCAM" all day long. I haven't looked at his profile but his name was "owsleybeatsbigcartel"

When some of us closed our threads and started moderated threads so we could just delete his posts on our own, he started sending all sorts of threats via PM as well out of anger that he could no longer spam his BS. I know a LOT of people have reported him.

8588  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WTS 71 Gh/s Avalon Unit in hand - overnight shipping on: June 15, 2013, 04:13:21 AM
What people seem to be getting horrifically wrong with their predictions is difficulty simply can't rise forever. Follow the chain now:

Proposed: Difficulty will rise to the point that the only widely available ASIC won't be viable [B3 @100 for example. Note that Avalon homebrews are only ~40% cheaper]
-> So if no unit purchased will ROI, ever, who is buying additional ASICs?
-> If no one is buying ASICs, why is hash rate still rising?
-> If hash rate isn't rising, difficulty isn't going up
-> Difficulty plateaus.

Some of these calculations just don't make sense, reaching difficulties of several million. Yes ASICs are POWER profitable until several billion in some cases, but they're not PURCHASE profitable. Not purchase profitable = no new ASICs = no rising difficulty.

Its a catch 22 that difficulty will rise at an extreme rate for a sustained period of time, making everything unprofitable.
You know what is really scary? I had no idea this would be the result. I strongly suspected ASICs were way overpriced, but I hadn't (at that time) done the actual math.

When I did, wow, was I disappointed....(an understatement)

I was just changing the code slightly right now to make it easy to use for a newbie (so they can stand up to the ASIC manufacturers and plug in their own numbers then tell them to lower their prices).

I just plugged in 24% in the first week and left the other blocks at 15%. What is extremely scary is that the final BTC produced at 1 year plunged from 104 BTC to 93 BTC simply by changing that first week.

People are apt to think the spreadsheet is somehow exaggerating the situation, right? But the spreadsheet is pretty damning. We only have to wait 7 days and look at the numbers. My worst fear is that the week after this, the next difficulty jump will be worse than 24%.

If that is so, the amount of BTC generated takes a nose dive at the end of the line (day 365). The profits wiped out are staggering.

Fook 70Gh/s. You'll need a TerraHash just to keep up with the network difficulty and eroding profits.

I'm pretty surprised by the numbers myself. I thought even at, say 20% per couple weeks, it wouldn't hurt much. These charts show that even a small change can make a world of a difference.

Would anybody like to suggest something that should be in the main post?

Confirmation on when Round 24 blocks should start paying, and also (when it's confirmed) the total share count/value per share, Smiley.
8590  Other / Meta / Re: Are the mods getting paid from this forum? on: June 15, 2013, 04:10:04 AM
Phone posting, so no quotes, but I'll try to answer the questions so far.

Yes, we get a percentage of ad revenue based on various factors now, which is fair since we spend a lot of time and energy keeping this forum usable and readable. Before only thing we got for our trouble was grief, which leads to burnout pretty quickly.

Donations are not used for this, transparency isn't necessary.

This is relatively new, when I said we do it for free, at the time we were, and had no idea this was coming.

Paraipan is a mod, local mod in Spanish board I think? All the local mods are included as well.

And no, there's no other threads about it, this is the first time I've seen it asked. Good job gage  Wink.

8591  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitinstant- stop sending your money! post grievances here!! on: June 15, 2013, 04:07:12 AM
Nubs27, this happened to me too, but my order (placed Tuesday) did get filled this afternoon (Friday). They switched to a new version of their website on Monday, and apparently there were some bugs it took them a few days to iron out. They say they are going back and filling the backlog of unfilled orders, and since mine got filled this afternoon, I'm guessing yours will be filled soon too if it hasn't already been filled. But if another day passes and you still haven't gotten your order, you should follow up with customer support.

This is a massive issue when it comes to a very time-sensitive purchase/sale. Being able to quickly get things taken care of is very important. It shouldn't take days or weeks to get it done.
8592  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: First running Avalon clone (teaser!) on: June 15, 2013, 04:04:43 AM
Just posting a teaser for now. This is a functioning Avalon clone populated with a single hash unit with a single ASIC, mining for 6+ hours (note the 1388 accepted diff-1 shares). A public announcement, with many more details about who we are and what we make, will be made soon. I think the Bitcoin community will be quite pleased Smiley

This is amazing and I look forward to hearing more about this! I'm curious though: do you guys have an ETA on how long it should take before getting ASIC's rolled out?
8593  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [DVC]DevCoin - Official Thread - Moderated on: June 15, 2013, 03:57:40 AM
Hmm, I only got 11 devcoin for the month of May despite writing 76k words. Is that normal?

Yes the Round 24 payments haven't started yet, still on Round 23. I'm not sure Round 24 starts.

I thinking Unthinkingbit said July 1st, but I'm not sure. It could be June the 20th.

I think it's just at like 95000 or something.

They said it's at the first block divisible by 4000. So that should be 96000.

Ok i think i understand now.  If i deleted the receiving address, the Bitcoins received at that address would be affected due to built in structure of Bitcoin? Something to do with the transaction ledger/blockchain?  So is there anyway i can at least move them out of sight but not delete them?

Why do you want them out of sight? Are you never planning to receive anything to any of those addresses again?
8595  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: bit coins stolen on: June 15, 2013, 03:54:12 AM
the reason for the 12 hrs apart was i had another deposit that was taking longer to get put into my account and almost right after i get the email saying fund are in my account i load up my wallet and find just all the coins gone.
and yes only been in bitcoins a little over 2 weeks sure puts a bad taste in my mouth after this incident,

You still haven't answered any of the questions though. What you've done is the equivalent of me saying "someone just stole $1,000 from me" and hoping someone happens to know how it happened, where it happened and what could have been done to prevent it.
8596  Economy / Marketplace / Re: WTS 71 Gh/s Avalon Unit in hand - overnight shipping on: June 15, 2013, 03:52:08 AM
grue - you are thinking in fiat not BTC which isn't how it works. All I am stating is that if you had 250 BTC today and holding it for a number of years it makes much more sense to spend that on mining equipment.

Anyway this is a sales thread or was lol until it turned into some kind of name calling / hate thread. Anyway feel free to PM me or email me on any other questions or posts. I don't want to reply to each and every one since its hard to not get trolled and not a productive use of time. I think I did a good job above on stating my thoughts.

I agree. This is all a matter of opinion. When it all comes down to it, it's a simple solution of "if you don't want to buy it, don't buy it." I think at this point it's worth saying that different people are taking this different ways, and leave it at that.

With that said, good luck with the sale!
8597  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] [TAT.VIRTUALMINE] Virtual Mining - Hash Without Hardware! on: June 15, 2013, 03:49:16 AM

8598  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Guide: Building a Solar Powered Mining-Plant on: June 15, 2013, 03:47:24 AM
I think you definitely want an electrician to do it for you, it might be illegal to do it yourself, and if you mess it up you'll either electrocute yourself or the power company technician if they come to work on the street power.  I'm sure they'll set everything up -- your meter will run backwards when you're selling power, so you'll pay for the net power you use.

Ohh, I didn't realize the meter would go backwards, lol. That's actually pretty cool!

Thanks for the info btw, Smiley.

And, if you end up generating more power than you actually use, you can usually get paid for feeding the grid. You can check with your electric company, but most of them buy the excess power from you.

At 3000 KW/h per month, with a 5kw wind turbine (or or 5x 1kW turbines) you would generate nearly an excess 600KWh each month that you could sell back to the grid (assuming continuous operation of the wind turbine at full output).

The highest wind turbines I could find ran $900 or so (plus shipping) just for the turbine itself, and only generating at a rate of 200W, Sad.
8599  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BitVegas and BitcoinGet Partnership on: June 15, 2013, 03:45:32 AM
Bitvegas is a scam just like the rest of gambling sites.

Gambling sites by design have an edge, sure, but they are not all scams. Some might rig the advertised odds, but the games at BitVegas are provably fair.

Eh, I just went through that guy's posts. He's spamming threads for some reason. Half of his posts aren't even on topic.
8600  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Free BTC] Hello Newbies - I'd like to start you off! on: June 15, 2013, 03:43:50 AM
I've recently been given 0.01btc in a display of generosity from primedice.com and would like to repay the favour and pass it on to a genuine newbie.

Let me be perfectly clear on this: I am not a primedice shill. The btc they gave me was entirely unsolicited and I have not had any communication with primedice either before or after this transaction arrived. I have also never gambled at primedice. In fact, to this date I have no idea who the guys behind primedice are.

Nonetheless, they did a nice thing for me and so I would like to repay the favour.

If you meet the following conditions:

1 - Your account still has the newbie tag on it
2 - Your account was created before the date of this post

......then you are eligible to enter.

I am thinking of a number between 1 and 100. The first user to meet the above criteria and post the number I am thinking of with their wallet address will be sent the 0.01 btc with no strings attached. This draw is not provably fair - if you have a problem with that, don't enter!

- In the event of the same winning number being posted twice, the first to post it wins

- You must post a wallet address. If two people post the winning number and only one has a wallet address, the user with the wallet address wins, regardless of whether they were first to post it or not.

I think that's all.... Good luck!

I'm not a newbie but wanted to say thanks for hosting this. It's awesome to see others giving back to the community!

Hopefully you don't mind (if you do, pm me and I'll remove it) but I'd also like to point the newbies to the BTC Faucet Timer and Rotator, which allows people to keep up with all the BTC faucets and go through all of them fast and easy for free BTC, Smiley.
