Hmm, I have a payment of 2BTC due that still is saying "NOT SENT". Is it just waiting on confirmations or more funds for the server to payout, or has there been some sort of error?
862  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JAPAN TSUNAMI RELIEF, PLEASE READ on: March 12, 2011, 09:57:56 PM
still increasing, just seeing another 22.6 BTC flowing in.

How long should we collect?

perhaps someone of the moderators here you place this call for donations high and prominent in the forum, potentially on bitcoin.org homepage temporarily to collect more.
Possibly calling for donations until a certain time and we then decide to issue the donation to our selected organization.

Seconded
Edit: As for how long we should collect, that's up to you since you're handling the donation money. I say as long as there is a need and people are willing to help out... I wish I could do more but I'm virtually broke IRL and work for next to free.

Generosity? What meaning does generosity have?

... is one of the liberating actions.
might be just my personal trip but i believe that hand that gives flowers smells good.

haha, well said. Feels good, man.

I was thinking about what someone said earlier in the thread about finding a grassroots organization somewhere in Japan... A shelter or something local and small that will immediately be able to aid a community. It does hold some interest if someone could do a little research into that. I'll check back when I get home from work.

Do you know yet who and how the funds collected will ultimately go to?
Any thoughts would be appreciated, I haven't had a chance to look into it, and now am heading for bed. Will check in tomorrow.
865  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JAPAN TSUNAMI RELIEF, PLEASE READ on: March 12, 2011, 10:29:06 AM
I am donating 30 BTC myself immediately.

You are a bro. I wish I had that much to give, unfortunately my combined mhash is only about ~150. I'm going to try to push my rigs a bit harder though.

We have quite a unique opportunity here, to actually take our computing power and use it to do something positive for human beings. It's actually a pretty cool feeling.
866  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: JAPAN TSUNAMI RELIEF, PLEASE READ on: March 12, 2011, 10:14:42 AM
Thanks for the prompt reply! I don't have much at all but I'm sending it, as well as what I can muster within the next few days. Thanks so much!
867  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / JAPAN TSUNAMI RELIEF, PLEASE READ on: March 12, 2011, 09:58:19 AM
Hello everyone, now is the time for us to stand up as the good people we all are and help out our fellow man. We need a way to donate our spare BTC to the Japan relief effort. I suppose the simplest way to accomplish that would be for a well established member of our community (as in, someone we trust not to keep it lol) to accept the BTC donations and sell them off and send the proceeds to (I don't know, I'm sure there's something). I just wanted to get the idea out here, since I didn't come across any threads offering to help out. Give a little, give a lot, whatever you could spare. I don't have much but if we're able to establish something, I'd like to do my part. Maybe someone a little more experienced than I am can come up with willing candidates to accept donations and put it to a vote or something? Even if we as a whole cannot do much, at least it is something, and the effort is bound to make a difference, even if it is small.
868  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin for precious metal exchange on: March 11, 2011, 09:11:08 AM
I'm not much for economics, at all, but please correct me if I'm wrong... I believe through Liberty Reserve and (geez now I can't remember and its late) some other place you can indeed work exchanges for gold and silver. Bitcoin after all is a currency like anything else, so as long as it has a value, then there's got to be a trading market for it for anything else that has value. The sky is pretty much the limit. My opinion is that as the market undergoes the usual fluctuations, while the hash strength of the network increases (thereby increasing difficulty, heh we'll see  this summer when A/C bills get high), that the bitcoin may gain some serious financial clout (inflation?) in the money market. This is speculation on my part, but the general consensus supports my opinion. As I said I am not much for economics, and I'm sure more savvy people than I am may have a better answer for you. If I wasn't hard up for extra cash, personally, I'd hang onto every BTC I get and just see what happens 6-8 months from now. Parity with the dollar severely piqued my interest for something so trivial (for some) to acquire. As I've been reading and researching, only the tip of the iceberg of the potential of the bitcoin economy has been fully realized. I'll leave it to more savvy men than I am to figure out where that is going, but once again I say, the sky is the limit.

Welcome to the botnet Smiley
869  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: [NEW POOL & NEW MINER] - BitcoinPool.com - Jump In! on: March 11, 2011, 08:52:57 AM
I joined this pool this morning at around 9am PST.  My machine is a crossfire setup with 4800's doing 150 Mh/s

Since joining I have "earned" an estimated 1 btc and two rounds have already been completed, however my bitcoin client shows no payments received.

I admit I am new to this, however, I am using the custom miner with the correct flags and the stats page on www.bitcoinpool.com shows that my miners are submitting shares correctly.

Why no payment? Sad

Sincerely,
Hopeful but dissapointed n00b miner

p.s. My username here is the same as my username on the pool stats page.

p.p.s My address is 19vg91RrXPMdWydgxv4R6TRfMjruVgoG6o (donations of 0.01 or less would be greatly appreciated Cheesy)  I got 5 btcents from the faucet! Yay!

Also is it true that the bitcoin client does not report balances of less than 0.01?  If so, how do I check my balances?

Great... I feel like an idiot now because I think I just figured it out... When at least 120 other clients confirm the result then the unconfirmed earnings get sent to me. Correct?

Please make this clearer on your site for n00bs like me.  Also thanks for hosting a such an awesome and efficient pool.  As an engineer I approve all deferments of inevitable entropy universe death!  Keep up the WINNING.

Hi, and welcome Smiley

I'm still pretty new myself, but most of these pools will only do a payout to your account every so often, and some of them you need to set a "minimum payment" threshold or they have a preset. I mine deepbit myself and it seems they pay out once per day I believe. Other pools are different, and keep in mind, most of them are still in development. Seems that all the pool owners around here are very trustworthy guys so don't worry about getting screwed over or anything. I've had payments show up in my BTC client that show as "unconfirmed" but after a couple of blocks they've been confirmed and the "pending" balance does indeed get added to the account. So, just be patient, you will reap your rewards. As far as I understand it, subcent amounts won't work outside of the pool you're mining in, so you can't collect less than .01 BTC. You wouldn't want to anyway. I keep mine set at .10 on deepbit, but since it doesn't pay out that often I get more like 1BTC every payout (well since difficulty went up). So don't worry, trust in your pool, and happy mining.
870  Economy / Marketplace / FFXIV Buddy Pass on: March 08, 2011, 11:20:01 AM
If anyone has an FFXIV buddy pass they'd be willing to part with, please shoot me a PM, I'd be willing to pay 10BTC, just need to save up for a few days. I'd be very much appreciative!
871  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: HD6870 maximum hash/s on: March 08, 2011, 09:07:28 AM
I'm not exactly sure what you meant by that, but you are indeed right in the point you make at Nvidia sucking at crunching numbers. I'm running a brand new MSI GTX 560, OC to 1003 core, and I'm getting ~100 mhash, lol.

Maybe if enough people from a certain place I will not mention get a clue as to how ATI cards are making great headway into the bitcoin project, possibly there would be less "hurr no drivers" arguments. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy my housefires and flaming 1.7 wood screws. I made my bed and I'll sleep soundly enough in it.

Told one of my friends about bitcoin, and the sheer difference between ATI and Nvidia and the main thing they market their products with.
ATI: Eyeinfinity, Number crunching, OC, Hardware OC modifications, Cheaper
Nvidia: Nvidia 3D, Stabler , "Quality", Better drivers, More OC with hacked drivers

Tried to convience him to buy ATI and start number crunching. He said, no.

Your comparision is flawed.

ATI has 3D too, ATI is not always cheaper, Nvidida is DEFINITIVELY not stabler nor does it has ANY nor more "quality" than ATI at all, "better drivers" is not truie anymore, ATI's drivers are very good now, ATi has unlocked shaders etc with hacked BIOS for 6950 which completely beats the ":More OC with hacked drivers" you give Nvidia, Nvidia actually Overclocks better than ATI

actually your comparison is VERY flawed Wink

- ATI is not always cheaper
What? In terms of price/performance, it is. Unless you twist it and say "LOL THE 6970 IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE 460" (lol). The 5970 doesn't count as it is not manufactured anymore.

- ATI's drivers are very good now
SC2 cursor problem.

-  ATi has unlocked shaders etc with hacked BIOS for 6950 which completely beats the ":More OC with hacked drivers" you give Nvidia
What? You're comparing apples to oranges here...

1. ATI is not always cheaper... notable are the GTX 460 and GTX 560. Pretty cheap and beat ATI price/performance a lot of times. We are talking about gaming here not crunching. Reme, ber before the 6XXX came out? How the GTX 460 as a better buy especially in SLI?

2. If you are talking about the frozen mouse thing, all you gotta do is set windows font size to default.Else idk what the problem is as I don't have any problems with starcraft II

3. Well then how about the BIOS editor for ATI that can also help for the OCing... one way or another, these don't make much of a difference and shouldn't change your mind on either going NV or ATI

I agree in part where you said his comparison was flawed. Nvidia cards are no more stabler than any other card I've seen. The top end cards from both manufacturers are indeed great performing products. In most experiences I've had with ATI cards I have had extremely frustrating driver issues, but for the last year I haven't ran an ATI card enough to actually keep up with how their driver releases are maturing. The point I slightly disagree on is the 3d. While it's true ATI cards are now supporting stereoscopic 3d, from dealings I've had with some friends, it's a terribly frustrating experience trying to get it working properly. Although, it's no lie that Nvidia's 3D vision technology is a bit wonky at this stage as well. I'd really like to see ATI get it together with the 3D tech, as the 3D vision capabilities of Nvidia's hardware and software was the main selling point of my latest purchases (wife wanted home theater 3d projector setup, scraped it all up for about $1k). Otherwise I just might have jumped ship back to an ATI card this year. I may yet actually try and pick up a 5970 for my alt mining rig, for fun.

You're right about ATI not always being cheaper. Nvidia had to get a corner on the "poor man" market as well and we get the 460-560. Damned excellent cards and the bang for buck really holds up against comparably priced and slightly more expensive ATI cards. I guess it really depends on preference, but I am slightly bummed out that my 560 can't be put to better use bitcoining, when I'm not watching Avatar 3D over and over again with my wife Smiley
872  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: btc supplemental income on: March 08, 2011, 08:49:28 AM
OP, here's how you make your $10k.

1. Code virus like program that upon infecting target computers, adds them to your personal botnet.
2. Have your zombie minions run multipurpose mining programs during idle cycles (cpu, gpu)
3. Huh?
4. PROFIT!

Oh, and don't get caught Wink
873  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - new shared mining pool on: March 08, 2011, 08:39:13 AM
I just started running on your pool and so far it looks nice. Kind of wish the statistics worked properly in the Miner Top. Website does look nice as well.

Anyway, I'm still new here in general and I think I've got this figured out so far. Got my 6870 running nicely and have already pulled in about 9 BTC's in about 3 days total of mining.

Only 9 BTC on a 6870? Something kind of amiss there bud, I'm making about the same and my total mhash is only ~150 (dang Nvidia cards), you should be running twice that.
874  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BTCMine - new shared mining pool on: March 08, 2011, 08:35:36 AM
I'm going to try this one out to see how it is, but I do have a quick question, though I likely already have the answer. I'm mining from two different computers, do I need to register a different miner for each instance of my mining programs, or is it okay to log them all in under the same miner? Seems that it's okay to do it under the same miner, as I'm not getting errors, I would just like to be clear on this. Thanks Smiley

876  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: RPC Miners (CPU/4way/CUDA/OpenCL) on: March 07, 2011, 08:19:09 AM
hello, I have win7 x64 and Nvidia GTX560 Ti, factory overclocked to 900/1800/2000

last night another application caused conhost.exe to crash and thus ending rpcminer-cuda.exe

the problem is that afterwards your program uses at most 95% of the card, something like 95% throttling, instead of 99%, causing my hash/s to drop from previously average 86700 to 81500

any ideas how to correct that?

I've had some sort of mixed results similar to yours, using the same miner. My usual thing is to run it with aggression=6 while I'm at work and my wife is watching movies on the projector. It's not a problem and everything runs well but usage usually sits at %96 and even after VLC and everything is shut off, it stays the same and hashes will sit around 89. When I run my miner, I always set its priority to Above Normal. Sometimes it seems to keep this trend, even after other activities have stopped, of running 96% and giving me low hashes. I've found if I just shut it off, for a few minutes, then start it back up again, it seems to work just fine. Ask me why, I dunno, but it does. It'll go up to 99% just fine. Could possibly be a driver thing.
877  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: HD6870 maximum hash/s on: March 07, 2011, 08:09:33 AM
Hmm, I was under the impression that a 6870 could do much more than ~240 mhash/s. If I'm correct, a 5870 will do somewhere in the neighborhood of 300m.

The 5XXX series are very good at number crunching. And some people think that Nvidia has low numbers because it is not optimised for Nvidia, kinda like how Folding @ home works better with Nvidia, but the truth is that Nvidia sucks at number crunching

878  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining on Linux with an Nvidia card on: March 07, 2011, 05:49:34 AM
I apologize if anyone takes offense to this, but Nvidia cards just aren't for mining anyway. If you're going to save up for another card, I suggest an ATI 5850 or 5870, excellent bang for your buck. I do use Nvidia cards myself, and while they work great for gaming or their 3d vision capability, I was disappointed to find out that they're garbage for mining. My GTX 560 with 1ghz overclock cannot manage 100 mhash/s without rediculously jacking up aggression.

Oh lord, I read that. So much mad in one article. And also...

>implying anonymous can actually break anything besides their anime pillow beat off toys

sorry

Actually, the fact is that I came across a thread on /g/ about Bitcoin and it raised my interest. I'd just gotten finished revamping some of my other systems as well as my main rig so I thought I'd give it a try.

I'm pretty much certain the influx of new people in the last couple of weeks has been due to anon.  I notice nobody's posting about it anymore on there though, likely trying to keep it on sort of the down-low? dunno.
