8602  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you think othercurrencies like LTC/ frei, will pick up steam like BTC has? on: December 29, 2012, 05:13:06 AM
Nothing against it really what I'd like to see is more competing physical currencies, but that just isn't possible sadly with the fed's stranglehold on things.

8605  Other / Politics & Society / Connecticut Assault Weapons Legislation on: December 29, 2012, 01:23:40 AM
If this website is to be believed, it turns out there may have already been quite strong ( in my view at least ) Assault Weapons Control in Connecticut since 1993, I don't know why I didn't google this sooner but the .gov website is at the top of the list right now, someone seems to have been doing research of their own.

http://www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/

http://www.jud.ct.gov/lawlib/aboutus.htm

Assault Weapons Legislation:

http://www.cga.ct.gov/2012/rpt/2012-R-0362.htm

Some things here interest me a great deal for those that can't be bothered reading it all

. Possessing an assault weapon - Up to 5 years in prison

. Distributing, transporting, keeping, offering for sale, or giving an assault weapon - Up to 10 years in prison

. Buying a firearm intending to transfer it to someone he of she knows or has reason to believe is prohibited from purchasing the firearm - Up to 5 years in prison

. Person prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm soliciting, employing, or assisting someone to engage in an illegal firearm transfer - Up to 6 months in prison

. Using, threatening to use, displaying, or purporting to have an assault weapon while committing a class A, B, or C felony - Up to 8 years in prison

Definition of Assault Weapon

The act designated as an assault weapon:

1. any of a list of named firearms;

2. selective-fire firearms capable of fully automatic, semi-automatic, or burst fire at the option of the user; and

3. parts either designed or intended to convert a firearm into an assault weapon or from which an assault weapon may be rapidly assembled if they are in one person's possession.

The act exempted permanently inoperable firearms.

Just stating what the facts seem to be, a lawyer will definitely have to check this kind of thing out though but I doubt anyone will because this is more about politics than fact checking.

Oh yeah. folded himself into a sports bag. Seems legit.

You know how Bitcoin is a deflationary currency? You can actually save your money now instead of have it pissed away by other people I don't think anything has made me happier knowing I can keep actual money in my PC and no one but me can touch it.
8614  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fiscal Cliff trade on: December 28, 2012, 09:00:51 AM
I don't understand why the "fiscal cliff" should have a direct effect on Bank of America's stock.

If I understand correctly, the "Fiscal Cliff" simply means a slashing of $1.2 trillion in mandatory and discretionary government spending, along with a return to the tax rates the U.S. had in the late 1990's (back when the budget was running a surplus rather than a deficit).

Because it does... Financials get slammed anytime the government makes a big fiscal or monetary boo-boo...

And the Fiscal Cliff WILL indeed have a direct, painful impact on the US banking system...

To make a long story short, the financials are like the middle-men in the economy, they receive money from central banks and that all trickles down to average person, be it through banks, lending or stocks, so if they start losing money the whole system collapses and groups like the federal reserve and their supporters think they can keep them running just by simply printing more money which isn't possible because aside from money management etc. these guys really don't do anything. They're going to have an automatic increase in taxes next year but that isn't going to solve anything either because these guys don't actually have any real money that the other countries recognise so in the end the U.S Dollar will probably collapse.

Oh and believe me, we've been here before you get the people in denial come along and saying we're all talking bullshit, instead of arguing about whether it's a recession or not we're going to be arguing about whether the whole economy will collapse until the bitter end.

Like I said guys, stupid hypothetical arguments that I refuse to take part in any more, it's like having an argument on the internet about whether someone could kick your arse, it's never going to end Tongue
8616  Economy / Speculation / Re: Fiscal Cliff trade on: December 27, 2012, 06:06:56 PM
It was amazing seeing the markets today for the short time it was open, really amazing, there were lots and lots of trades all going around Banks and Telecommunications groups like Vodafone, I'm surprised there are people left in this world who think that these economies are going to last, a gold stock I'm holding jumped 6 or so points in one day but it was rushing up to 12 for awhile, it's going to be insane what comes next year.

http://www.petropavlovsk.net/ - I'm putting my faith in this company myself, yum gold Cheesy

I say stick with Gold and Oil though you always want to be as picky as possible with your choices but I'd stay away from financials altogether.

Edit: Blegh, selling my stocks while I can, guys, take my advice from someone who has magical moments of mathematics every now and then even though he hates it, you should only enter a trade with £1000 - $1000 otherwise you will be waiting until 2020 to break even ( granted exaggeration on the 2020 bit but that's what it will feel like POG is definitely a good pick though )
8617  Other / Politics & Society / Re: In the gun debate who do you think is the most stupid? on: December 27, 2012, 04:19:30 PM
You make a fair point actually, it's not just political elite though, they're just simply pawning off responsibility to soldiers and police officers, I always wondered why they didn't make any mention of that.
8618  Other / Politics & Society / In the gun debate who do you think is the most stupid? on: December 27, 2012, 03:33:31 PM
I thought as someone from the UK I could have a different take on this gun 'debate' which seems to have devolved at least on the official places like mainstream news into nothing more than a shouting and insult match with blatantly flawed statistics being constantly cited and silly hypothetical arguments taking place on both ends. I wouldn't be surprised if there were other people who felt the same way really and the paranoid side of me does make me think this is the most obvious case of political opportunism towards a massacre I have ever seen.

I'm sure the two sides are bound to try swarming this thread but tell me, what do you think of the whole mess? I'm personally looking forward to laughing at their arrogance and stupidity along with Jon Stewart next year especially with the automatic tax rises and spending cuts around the corner.

When the law makes things worse, well, obviously that's undesirable.

When pro-government types make laws that make things worse they go into complete denial mode:

. Strictly regulating the drugs trade has just made things worse and they are fighting a losing battle that's costing them billions

. Spreading 'Democracy' as the Romans tried to spread 'Civilisation' using threats of invasion, killing and subterfuge is failing miserably as we all know in places like Afghanistan the American army is just getting withered down with hit and run tactics and it's costing them billions to keep the army overseas fighting

. People are generally not that violent, you don't actually need laws a lot of the time for people to get along with each other, I suspect gun laws here in the UK have actually neither helped nor hindered gun crime rates because every now and then the BBC will still report a shooter trying to rampage and it's always some lunatic that's been pushed over the edge

. Compulsory education has to be the funniest thing I've ever heard of especially in this country it's a complete joke, the accusations happen almost every year anyway but now there has been definite proof that the regulators in our country have been messing with students' grades, so they ended up scoring lower, I can tell you from my own personal experiences as well that most education is shite, I have only been able to find good education away from the traditional institutions that provide it

I could go on but I think I've made my point, part of me just wants to let the people in America get on with it and establish all the daft and stupid laws they like that way if it fails it will be on them entirely.

lol my mistake on the airplane speed limits then, should have checked that out first, my point still stands though, I think I'll go and research airplane accidents and cars and see how they compare because if I'm right I think we'll see a lot less airplane crashes than car crashes just because airplanes have far more space between them then cars ever will.
