881  Economy / Collectibles / [Auction] Random Coin. No Minimum Increments - ENDED on: May 13, 2018, 04:41:53 AM

Let's play a little game. Up for auction is a physical coin I bought from a Yard Sale for $0.25.

Backstory: I stumbled across a Yard Sale near my home town and this Bitcoin physical coin caught my attention. After talking to the residence I picked up the coin and some computer parts for under $40. The old computer parts (including a hardrivex2) were her sons who moved away. I am praying this will be one of those dream stories of the long lost Bitcoin goldmine. The dream?

The Coin: Weight: 1oz Metal seems to be Gold plated. Markings on the coin: ADDS APPROVED MJB 2013.

Research: Quick Google search brings up a very common coin priced around $3-5.

"The souvenir Bitcoin, released in 2013, is covered with pure copper. It can’t be used a physical bitcoin wallet because it has no cryptography key. The 40 mm in diameter token is designed in cryptocurrency-style, in particular both sides of it is decorated with microchip images symbolizing virtual technologies." - Google

Starting bid: 0.00000001BTC
Min increments: 0.00000001BTC
Shipping: Free worldwide.
Sniping: No, each bid made in the last 15 minutes of the auction will extend the auction by 15 minutes.
Ends: 1 Week or Bitcoin Hits $10,000. Whatever comes first.
Note: Please don't ask me for 100 other pictures. The following is all I could find about the coin.

Update: Winner of Auction will receive a share of cryptocurrency if any is found on the hard drives. See https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3764802.msg37808314#msg37808314

886  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Crypto Quilts / 100% Handmade on: May 11, 2018, 04:41:14 PM
Is there any reason that you have decided to decrease the size and increase the quantity of quilts being produced? I imagine it is because you are attempting to appeal to a larger audience and don't have the capabilities to produce them all at the first quilt's size. Please clarify, because I know you mention these would be better for framing, but I truly believe people are more interested in using the quilt for it's intended purpose of warmth. People love a good snuggle. They've got their Bitcoin mug, sipping their tea while being covered in their Bitcoin blanket and fall asleep while pretending their ASIC miner is a white noise machine.

I would like to see all of the quilts large, but that's just my personal take. The ethereum quilt looks ridiculously good, better even than the Bitcoin one. Please do post updates and pictures from each project.

It seems to be that your best bet is in the collectibles section, but it's a tricky one. Minerjones might know better than I would.

There are several reasons for the smaller quilts this go around.

1. Turn Around. Takes less time to create the same quality quilt but a smaller size. Note: Quality is the same for any size quilt.
2. Time and Scheduling. Getting people to work on a larger project takes coordination. The smaller quilts have been given to 3 different quilters after initial design and piecing by the group. Allows them to work from home instead of on a large quilt rack at the quilt guild.
3. Lack of initial interest. There were no bids on the Bitcoin Quilt #1 Auction. I think people were caution about myself and the project. This allows people an alternative.

I think it also comes from a collection standpoint. People might be more interested in buying a smaller version as they can enjoy it, but also turn around and sell it later down the line when Crypto Quilts is famous (right?). The larger quilts adds more intimacy to ownership, physical usage and thus a larger investment.

This is from feedback and suggestions from some of the quilters as a smaller item might be of more interest. There are arguments for both side of the fence. It will be interesting to see what options and feedback come from the smaller quilts.

As promised an update from the announcement of the announcement on the project.

There are three quilts in the works. I'm working out how I want to put these quilts up for sale. The option is either raffling them off to increase interest or just listing them up for auction. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Quilt #2 - Ethereum 18'x'24'
Quilt #3 - Bitcoin 18'x'24'
Quilt #4 - Monero 18'x'24'
Note: These sizes are more wallhangings or framed displays. Depending on interest and requests Quilt #5 will be similar in size to Quilt #1 58'x58'.

Here is a teaser picture of Quilt #2. For those of you with Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cryptoquilts

I've added a commission section on the website upon request. It's very exciting time as the first commission has been ordered by someone on the forums! They don't want their information shared, but they ordered a baby quilt as they are expecting their first child.

As a reminder this project is non-profit and I cover all shipping costs 100% of proceeds go to the quilters. If you want to support Crypto Quilts:

896  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Do you REALLY trust hardware wallets? on: May 07, 2018, 05:38:30 AM
Times are changing and I think trust in third party programs and software is at an all time low. I would like to see more open sourced projects and Samourai Bitcoin Wallet expand into other areas.
897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Banknotes Debut in Singapore on: May 07, 2018, 05:32:36 AM
Good concept I guess? The challenge is to make them easy and quick to transact. The problem with this is that before you actually accept the "banknotes" you need to scan them one by one to confirm that it actually does contain some btc.

Correct me if there's something I missed.

Yeah, I see this becoming a problem though. It would be interesting if a banknote could in a sense "self destruct". It's not very user friendly to have to scan each note and then having to dispose them. Outside of long term storage I don't see these being very logical as an application or other form of integration would be easier to use on a daily basis.

I am speechless as it's such a nice bar and you've held it for so long. Props.

The raffle inceptions would be real.
