We should not look down our noses at people who are not good with money or are just bad at operating in the free market.  I myself have never had a problem here and have never lost money because I look at every business transaction with perfect clarity, but not everyone can be as sharp as I am.  That is why we need government regulation of Bitcoin, we need to protect folks like Atlas who have been innocent victims of their own lack of depth and insuitability to an open market.
I would happily lose it all over again, Rarity. Thanks but no thanks. You can keep your government regulation.

Anyways, great trolling. 9/10

The above is accurate if you include displaced people who evacuated to Jordan then got slaughtered on the way there. Counting that, the above is underreported.

Source please, OMG pending.

Yep, it seems questionable. Doing more research.

My apologies for believing this outright.

I believe folks have become to accustomed to being wrapped in cotton wool to protect them from their own stupidity, admittedly I find the risks hard to evaluate too. There seems to be a few common factors amongst the victims of scams, greed is a frequent one but I don't hear many folks coming from less law abiding states complaining.

I have simply bought products that never were delivered. Konichua has been my only gentlemen's agreement bet.

How much for a short story involving a bitcoin pirate in his quest to reclaim his lost booty? If nothing else, it may help provide some closure for some of the recent open-ended drama.

Preferably with some cyberpunk elements thrown in...

In fact, make it a universe with mashed up elements from Snow Crash, Accelerando, & The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect with bitcoin being a central thread tying the different storylines together. Definitely want some deep character development on our pirate, along with a satisfying end to his problematic situation.

For a 1200+ word short story, I'll do it for about .79 BTC. Sound fair? You can pay me when I am done and if you like it. : ) I'll get to work once I get the okay.

The story will take no more than a week.

LOL @ the OP just wanting money and clearly being ignorant about the books mentioned. I haven't read them myself but depending on the results I would be willing to write my own version and actually taking into account the details of the request.

Now, now, who is not to say I am not reading these works right now?

I will outbid the gentlemen above every time: In quality and price. This is my project and it will be done to the highest quality.

Mr. JMAHH, I appreciate your enthusiasm but I am going to ask you to back off. Smiley
886  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / It seems irreversible payments are a paradigm shift: Scams everywhere. on: September 11, 2012, 11:37:39 AM
When somebody is confident that nobody can reverse their actions and confiscate the property (Bitcoins) they now possess, it seems to override what's socially acceptable and they keep the money in their pocket despite not delivering what they committed to. There is no possible and real consequence right now.

I've lost over 300 BTC to scammers in my lifetime on this forum, all because I believed people usually valued the property of others. Either because of the social disconnect of online mediums, luck or my over-trusting attitude this has continued to happen until this day.

I am giving in guys. I will start being tougher on who I do business with. This is a totally different ball game and I need to learn how to play it.

Trust unfortunately needs to be earned, at least here.

Yep, sticking with scammer on this one.

Konichua still has 11 hours...
Sorry about that.

Over 150 judicial and defense corporations (aka countries or governments) compete for your citizenship and taxation. Not pleased with your current one? Pick another or build your own.

Flexible options are available such as the nearly tax-free city-states of Monaco, Hong-Kong and Singapore. Confederate republics such as Switzerland and the United States are happy to provide you with the level of sovereignty you desire.

Not pleased with the current actions of overreaching defense corporations such as the US Military, NATO and the UN? Contact your local resistance group or arms supplier today.

This kind of blows my mind.

I mean ok but... with such a point of view, was there any point in history when there was anything but a worldwide anarcho-capitalism?  Does this very concept mean anything in that sense?

Local anarcho-capitalism seems to be a different story.
891  Economy / Scam Accusations / Scammer: Konichua on: September 11, 2012, 04:33:32 AM
I made a bet on Matthew's bet with Konichua. He took Matthew paying. I took the opposite. He said the bet would end in 48 hours of Matthew's bet and he has yet to pay me my 2 BTC.

Mhmm. Personally, stealing offends my sensibilities, coming from me or others.

I just don't need a Bible, governance or a religion to make me feel that.

So why did you do it?  Wasn't it something about the amount not being enough for you to really consider it theft?

Also, you seem to think my username reflects my beliefs.  Believe me, I have no love of the bible.

I've tried this before, but I'll try again.  The value of what you stole is not important.  It is that your moral code allows for it, as long as the value is low enough.  I think you'll find future business partners will not agree.

It was an experiment that failed. People didn't like the script so I scrapped it. I don't find anything wrong with it but others did and I will respect that.

I was never able to claim the fractions of a cent the script mined. Anyways, the whole thing is overblown.

It's been a pleasure, gentlemen.

If you find it abhorrent that I have stolen fractions of a penny through a tumblr blog, I ask that you do not do business with me.

Godspeed.
895  Other / Archival / Re: Proposed removal of Matthew N Wright from forum staff. on: September 11, 2012, 03:32:45 AM
I will admit Matthew and I are similar in some ways but I have a stronger value system than he does. Integrity, if you will. His respect for other people is rather shallow. His love goes only as far as the power he has over someone.

I am not going to lambaste this trait since it is so common in the power structures of today's society. Whether people can live happily treating people this way is beyond me. I certainly cannot.

Matthew wants servants in his life. He admires servitude, compliance and an ear that listens to him. I admire autonomous and free human beings. I admire the spontaneous and unique nature that comes from the individual and the ego.

To each his own.

You're kidding, right?  You have no integrity at all.  You ran a script that stole CPU cycles from visitors to your website to mine bitcoins for you without their knowledge.  You then defended it because you only stole a little money, and anything you steal under 25 cents is fine.  You cannot even see how the very act of theft itself is wrong and makes you dishonest and unreliable.

Every time you get called out for some half-assed idea you bail on (which you also refuse to acknowledge.  Where's the Woolong Device prototype?), you delete all your posts and change your name, trying to pass as something nuts like a retired horse trader.  You refuse to take responsibility for anything you do, preferring to hide and attempt to pass yourself off as something you're not.

You're a liar, a thief, and are unfathomably dishonest.  Then you have the gall to turn up here and talk about all the integrity you have?  Answer for something at least once in your life and address all the above.
I have no desire to argue about javascript and other technologies with you.

Reverence for dogma and claims of social authority are not in my value system. My integrity lies in the uncompromisable respect for my own desires, morality and love for life.

The ghosts, spirits and other religious propaganda your integrity calls for are not of my cause and will never be. Don't waste your time, my friend.

I have a thing for Jewish women. Try again.

I just want less suffering in the world.

So what's your solution is? As far as I can see there is no solution at this moment.

Removing jews isn't a solution.
Removing arabs isn't a solution.

They don't want peace, so may be in 100 years when they intermix enough they will have peace.
Bro, the UN instigated the whole thing. Just because the Palestinians didn't bend over when they came doesn't mean they don't want peace. They just want to keep their property.
898  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Response on: September 11, 2012, 03:08:34 AM
(Atlas, OTOH, has not done a damn thing of value that I can think of.)

I managed to delete over 10,000 Bitcoins in 2009. You're welcome.
899  Other / Politics & Society / Re: CA passes law condemning anti-semitism as Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC report on: September 11, 2012, 03:04:42 AM
The UN infringed on their sovereignty. It was a war of independence. The UN initiated force when they refused to cease their actions. If you invade my home, you're going to get shot.

However, the Jews have a right to Israel because of God and Nazis. So the Palestinians need to know their place.

They had no sovereignty. Can you name a last country that had control over that territory? We can even skip brits! Let me hint you, they weren't arabs.

Deal, if Europe and Arabs return all property to jews that was lost due to pogroms, I'd bet all the jews that immigrated to Israel would come back.

The Palestinians lost. I'll accept that. War is war it seems.

Your grand plans of the final solution failed so far? I feel so bad for you. You just want to murder 6 million jews, so there would be some space for palestinians.
