So this question is for those of you who paid with credit cards/bank loans and have reached "break-even" status.

Are you selling the coins at current prices to pay off the owed/remaining amount and take that off your back or are you holding in hopes that the price keeps climbing and do it later when higher?

a few days ago I've cashed out circa 75% of jup day1 value. I didn't use cards/loans to buy my miner. The thing is that I'm quite risk adverse despite the fact that I'm dealing with btc all day long Tongue

So, that extra module that I've ordered. Can I run it with anything else but the main control boards?
Let's say rPi?

Please advice.

It's a BeagleBone Black (Circuito, Newark or Farnell) inside the KNC as far as I can tell. Similar to the RaspeBerry Pi -- but that's all.

which is mounted to the actual controller board..
I don't see how you'd connect the data ribbon to a BBB without one.

What a great morning...Gox @ 427.....coinbase @ 390... nice!

Suggestion for KNC's GEN2... Native WiFi   Wink Wink Wink
a small pci slot on the controller board...and a 5 dollar 10/100 wifi card...

sorry for being pedantic but it's a plain BeagleBone, not the Black version. And if memory serves KnC removed the USB interface.

from dmesg:

it says "beaglebone-black".  I'm not an expert on these things, but I wouldn't imagine a non-black version would have that entry.  Could be wrong tho.  In addition, some folks matched up the physical layout from the preproduction pictures to be the Black version, IIRC.  Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there in case someone found it interesting/useful.

I stand corrected.
I've been somehow misled by Sam response on this thread.

http://forum.kncminer.com/forum/main-category/hardware/1269-is-the-linux-controller-a-beaglebone-black

but now that I've checked also the amount of memory match the Black version.

LOL 3 minutes...

Upgrade Modules Sold Out

All,

Thanks very much for all of the people who purchased the upgrade modules, The entire bunch of 200 sold out in around 3 minutes. We have over sold a little as we were not fast enough to disable the product in the shop. and bitcoin transactions take a few minutes to become verified

What we will say is that to everyone who has paid via bitpay for their order will receive an upgrade board.

We do expect that all boxes will leave this week and we will double the team involved in packing so it goes as quick as we can

Thanks KnCMiner Team

being 3 or 10 does not make any difference. The fact is, as someone already said,  that being able to buy ASIC HW for 0.02 BTC/GHs with immediate delivery is a very good deal these days, IMHO.
887  Economy / Speculation / Re: BitCoin to Correct? Your Comments on: November 12, 2013, 03:18:10 PM
Bitcoin will drop hard to the 100's$

120-150 is my guess.

People don't understand the concept of profit-taking around here.

Do you care to explain to simple minded like me?  Tongue
888  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 12, 2013, 02:14:01 PM

Tough to read when when they don't leave that page up.  thx

Annoyed I couldn't pay with fiat.  But I'm a sucker.  replaced the fiat with btc on on bitstamp...

put me down for 6

Are you saying that you want to buy six modules? Unluckily the wen sold out.
WTF?. I refreshed page last few hours and didn't even see that they was available.

They were gone in 6-8 minutes.  I almost missed them too.

after having read this:

You guys should start with 600m diff and then add an additional 2PH to that for the end of November.  From there take a guess at how much HashFast, Bitmine, BitFury, and CoinTerra are launching.

People are way too excited to spend $1000+ (including extra parts to buy) just for ~140GH.

Companies will continue to rip people off if you keep falling for it.  Amazing how people want to give away their BTC.  If you have $1000 to blow, buy more BTC on the next price correction.

I thought you wouldn't have bought them Tongue

sure.

that's the reason why DPoS have posted it here, to give people the chance to read it.

I will ask again, how do you fasten these without the metal bar?

Single Upgrade Module
Bit100
Not available

The upgrade modules on sale here are for our September & October boxes only, if you don't not have an existing miner do not buy these cards.

Each upgrade consists of  the following

One card that will operate around 140GH/s.
One power cable extender (blue cable in existing boxes).
One flat cable used to connect to the controller board (note: these MUST be plugged in the correct orientation or they simply will not work at all)
One cooler mounting bar and screws.

The package does NOT include one of the Artic Freezer Coolers you will need to purchase one form a local supplier, They are available all over the world below are some examples

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186058

http://www.arctic.ac/us_en/products/cooling/cpu/freezer-30-co.html

Also note that the Artic a30 will work just fine.

This product is only being sold with the payment method of BitPay. All items are in stock and will be packaged and shipped this week via UPS
$ 950.00

edit: did you buy some?
892  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 12, 2013, 01:37:44 PM
Will those modules be mounted on metal plates?

did you buy one ?
893  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement: Bitmain launches AntMiner solution, 0.68 J/GH on chip on: November 11, 2013, 05:33:27 PM
it is more easy for me to purchase miner from asia company...previously it is hard for me to order from bitfury which the early ordering skip for asia market..

it is a nice at least a brand new ASIC company do the business with the ready stock..

I think everyone is waiting for a company with fair pricing and available stock.  Smiley

I can't speak for anybody else but me and what I say is... Finally! (If true Tongue)
894  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 11, 2013, 04:50:10 PM
Does anyone know if it is OK to connect 2 of my modules from Jupiter 1 to Jupiter 2. I will move just the ribbon data cables over, so Jupiter 2 has 6 modules connected to it, but 2 of these are still powered by Jupiter 1 PSU.

Anyone?

I am sure you'll eventually try it, so let us know how it goes!  I am suprised you have a board that actually supports 6 connections, my day 1 jup only has 4.

I just did. 6 boards using all 6 connection, using 1 V850 PSU.

Good to know. Thanks for testing. I asked KnC support if it was possible and they said the firmware did not support 6 modules  Huh
What's the hashrate for 6 modules ?

Strange... I clearly remember hno (OrSoC engineer) saying, on irc, that as long as the control board has 6 plugs the miners should work.
895  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 08, 2013, 05:47:31 PM
finally the increase seems to flatten Smiley
Weird, because with this high BTC value I can image some are even turning on gpus for BTC again..

I said it would plateau a few weeks back and was laughed out of the thread, someone threatened to remind me about it to, 'saved for posterity' I believe.

We're lucky because hashfast is experiencing a delay of one month an a half. Sure u could say that u knew it... Grin
896  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 07, 2013, 11:44:19 PM

Rising difficulty.... Say thanks to Bitfury. Smiley He made his best and made it well. It was not good for us but it's an other question.

Sorry for derailing the thread but speaking of diff,  luckily enough for KnC miners (us), it seems that HashFast will deliver its first batch starting from mid-december at best. So this time luck is on our side and against other miners (HF customers). Fate actually plays no favorites, though.
897  Economy / Speculation / Re: Planning your Bitcoin Withdrawals on: November 07, 2013, 10:27:24 PM
While most of us around here tend to be long-term bullish on Bitcoin’s future, nobody knows for certain what its value will be in one year, five years, or ten years.  With an investment where the upside potential easily hundred-fold, and the downside risk is one-fold (100% of your original investment),deciding how much to withdraw on the way up can be a torturous problem.

The ultimate goal is to find your personal balance between these two questions:

-If Bitcoin goes to $0 tomorrow, will I be able to live with the gains I locked in up to this point?
-If Bitcoin firmly establishes itself, reaching global equilibrium with other currencies, will I be able to live with the number of Bitcoins I sold along the way?

I use a spreadsheet to help play around with different withdrawal amounts. Its general approach is this: For every X% Bitcoin appreciates in value, sell Y% of my remaining Bitcoins.  Adjusting X% controls the granularity – how often and sizable each transaction is.  Adjusting Y% controls how much profit is realized on the way up, rather than left for future gains.

Feel free to adjust the numbers in the green boxes, and play around for yourself.  You're also welcome to copy and use the sheet personally.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqpoRK3q-_aKdHdwd0VubzdJbkQ5OF9GRlplVXRVY2c&usp=sharing

I don't think of this spreadsheet or plan as a trading strategy, such as entering and exiting the market based on movements above and below weighted averages. You could consider it a very long-term trading strategy whose aim is buy-and-hold, with the only trading done being to incrementally lock in gains at predefined gains.

Just know that this plan can exist for your long term planning, and you can still trade funds on a shorter time-frame, realizing BTC-based gains and losses along the way.

If you are able to discipline yourself to follow this sheet rigidly, long-term you put yourself in a win-win situation.  If the price continues rising from its relative point, you will still hold the number of Bitcoins you are comfortable with, while holding profits.  If the price downturns after you have sold some long-term funds, you have a choice.  You can do nothing, and continue to keep your long-term profits locked in.  But you'll also have the choice of reinvesting at a lower price, gaining Bitcoins, while setting up to resell them once again at a predefined future sell price.

I hope some of you find it valuable.

I'm sort of a newbie but I'd dare to give this advice to anybody that is going to start "trading". Read all kranen.com trading guide and in particular pay close attention to order types section. (I'm not affiliated with kraken by the way)

http://bitcoinarmory.com/about/using-our-wallet/

Directions and explanation there are good except until the new version is released you really need 8-16 GB RAM on the online machine.

The new version of Armory is going to be awesome. If you're comfortable compiling source code yourself you can run test versions of it and use the split paper backup feature now.

Sorry for the OT but why the online machine need more than 8GB of RAM?
