901  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Way to heat my bedroom? on: November 02, 2013, 06:47:38 AM
I'm mining Nova/Litecoin and XPM just to heat my apartment. Haven't turned the heat on once and my electric bill is still sub $50 while I mine ~$70-$90 a month

My electricity went double after i change my heater to mining rig. Looks like heater is better at heating Smiley

902  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to your favorite alt-coin? on: November 02, 2013, 06:46:14 AM
The wealth is not in the "printed money" you are missing the point. The wealth is in the company that invests its time in the coin, and the people that will work for the coin.

Mmm.  Maybe.

That sounds a lot like the alternative local currency movement-- create a local currency that somehow expresses the local community's values.

I'm probably just a too-logical, cold-hearted geek, but building community around a currency doesn't strike a chord with me. To me, community is about people, and a currency is just a tool for transactions. I guess an analogy would be a bunch of carpenters who build a community around some Extra Special brand of nails that they create and trade amongst themselves.

How that can be alternactive when BTC price is fluctuating crazy, now 150 nex day 220 then again 170

Now tell me how to purchase 8K in BTC with a credit card? Any idea's?

Buying a miner with a credit card is a lot easier and more fun than just buying BTC. You might not make as much money as if you just bought BTC but who cares its an easy fun way to get BTC and support the network.

Actually it is not difficult at all, despite the recent internal WU presentation in reddit

https://localbitcoins.com/buy-bitcoins-online/western-union/

You can buy $5000/day using money in minutes with your credit card

support the network?!?! HAh thetre is no supporting there is only stealing a peace of pie of other ppl who mine BTC.
905  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Next difficulty ~510,000,000 ? on: November 02, 2013, 06:41:49 AM
The difficulty is going out of control..

What did you expect from an arms race?

cuz you dont know how many ppl are expectinf their miners to come and start mining, i assume a lot of ppl
906  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Once again, Holy difficulty jump, Batman!!!! on: November 02, 2013, 06:38:55 AM
http://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

In 2.6 days we are all doomed, its like end of the world...

Bitcoin Difficulty:   267,731,249
Next Difficulty: 410,388,495 (+53.28%)

i expect difficulty will be even higher

What you quoted is old, it should hit about 500-600 million now...

wehn now?!?!   DIFF is 300 + milion
907  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: how do you calculate mined coins in China 2013 ? on: November 02, 2013, 06:37:50 AM
but it wont e accurate, not even close

Close is what I'm looking for.  I think 28% of total production for 2013 will be pretty close. Then add or deduct any big movement of coins in and out of China and attempt to estimate what they were holding before 2013

The objective is to try to understand what they are doing with the coins...selling for profit or holding for speculation, hedging savings or circumventing restrictions on money movement outside of China. They are surely not buying goods with them yet as the opportunities are few.

If we know what they are doing with them we can help "predict" where the price will go, how long it will take to get there and how big is  the danger of sudden price collapse.

i assume that they are holding them for speculation, and maybe some of them are big holders
908  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Alt-Coins on: November 02, 2013, 06:34:13 AM
Almost all of the alt-coins out there are going to be a waste of time.  They're being created to take advantage of people who get super excited about different things and then get pumped and dumped.

Be careful about wasting time with too many alt coins.

Be careful about downloading files, seems like there's plenty of wallet stealers around hidden as alt coin miners.
Seen some more of this recently, so wanted to highlight the point.

Here's some good info from later in the thread:
1) Don't just trust the status of a member, anyone can write 500 posts and be a hero member in a short period. This just means that he invested some time on his membership. He can always decide that a profitable scam will be a good payment for his time.
2) Never deal with anyone without doing a search in the forum with his nickname, in order to check if he has scam accusations.
3) Ask for his coin address and always search it on blockchain.info or www.cryptocoinexplorer.com to verify if his address has the amounts he is claiming.
4) Be very suspicious about proposals well under market price or if he accepts your proposal under market price with no negotiation.
5) Look for the reputation of the member (his successful trades, in the form of vouches from the other party on the deal).
6) Even if he has some reputation, never send all the money in one transfer: send one first very small tranche (0.1 btc might be a good start) and wait for his payment. Send a second little higher tranche and wait again, etc. Small increments, because he might decide to pay you the first and second, to scam a bigger tranche. Always suspect if he doesn't accept to trade in small tranches.
7) If he has no reputation (including most cases when he is a newbie or a Jr.), even small tranches are a risk. Better use an escrow system, like the one of bitmit.net, or a trusted member, or you might need to send over 10 very small tranches. It can be annoying, but loosing your money will be more.
8] For big amounts always use an escrow system, unless the member has an excellent reputation.

Since this thread is a sticky, I decided to post this here. Any moderator or member feel free to move, copy or improve these rules at will.

What are the safest alt coins? (minus LTC of course)

LTC is safe?

Bahahahahaaa.  During this last Bitcoin run, the great [Silver] Litecoin dropped 65% in 3 weeks.

A 65% drop in under 21 days does not silver nor safe make.

No alts are safe, only maybe 2 will survive the coming onslaught next year.

Your best bet is Bitcoin, but if you want a chance at making a lot of money then find the next great coin which will not be Litecoin nor any of the commonly expected coins.

Diversify and Read up on ixCoin.  That's your best chance.

65 %  of his price in BTC but how much did it droped aganist USD?

a little

Satoshi is a good mathematician / programmer - but he/they suck at basic economics.
If they had a real economist in their group they would have made the inflation curve of bitcoin much different from what we have today.
I like bitcoin, but I hope we get a new altcoin that is something between gold and fiat in terms of inflation.
Or even better: a coin with unlimited inflation that enables IOU trading over blockchain so that the blockchain don't become an asset for speculation, but rather a tool for trading OTHER assets.

Maybe he or they had something else in their mind
912  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How high will the difficulty be in 60 days? on: November 01, 2013, 08:07:21 PM
Next difficulty will surpass 500 million and by Christmas we'll be over 1.2 billion.

In other words, every unit being shipped [late] by butterfly labs right now will never see a profit.

Paper weights!

The reason most people are on the low side is that they're not taking into account the massive recent spike in Bitcoin Price [which will keep surging into Christmas and New Year] and also the global attention [and legitimacy] brought to Bitcoin due to the closure of Silk Road.

We probably now have a few million new entrants which nobody is aware of, and that number will sky rocket next year with the Bitcoin ETF.

So both of these factors [and soon the Bitcoin ETF] will greatly accelerate the difficulty rate as millions more people buy ASICS, which will consistently put a massive downward pressure on Scrypt coins which means Litecoin et al are doomed.

But I digress...

can difficulty of BTC decrease

Of course.  If people choose to mine something else or just turn off their ASICS then the difficulty will go down.

maybe that will happen sometime in near future, when ppl stop buying their miners and quit mining cuz of ROI
913  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: November 01, 2013, 08:06:13 PM
Even though KnC deployed my hosted order more than 10 days out of queue order, and I even sent them an e-mail requesting a refund, once deployed, they seem to have silently compensated me by using a 3-board Saturn, if that's at all possible.
At least I get a steady 419GHs on the portal side, and about 401GHs reported by BitMinter.
So I am a happy customer now.  Grin

PS: Not all had their status changed to "In Progress". Mine was "Paid" all the time, and still is (just checked it now).

you are lucky miner
