At what point does this get fairly locked, since the mod always has the last word before the lock?

Yep, this is probably what's going to happen in the end, the only way the moderator is going to be able to keep any moral high ground is if he keeps this thread open otherwise he'll have proved me right Cheesy

One final thing I will say though before giving up on this stupid conversation, all these pro-corporal punishment advocates, I wonder if they have ever been on the receiving end of a punch? Or any other kind of physical pain? This I suspect is what enables them to be so arrogant about what they believe and think it's okay, I'd be very surprised if anyone who has experienced physical abuse would say it works as a method of disciplining children.

Before you go ranting about how great 'corporal punishment' is, try getting on the receiving end and experience it yourself first.
9002  Other / Meta / Re: Open applications for moderatorship: a big leap forward on: November 12, 2012, 07:06:48 PM
I've never seen an online community in which open applications for mod/admin positions caused anything but drama.

While I get what you're saying about transparency, we all need to remember that this forum is not a democracy and that the admins aren't accountable to the community.  When you talk about keeping the power of the admins in check, you're talking about making a fundamental change in the nature of this messageboard.

You're right, as far as I'm concerned the only thing admins and moderators should be doing is stopping spam and making sure hackers don't take down the site, that's all I ever do, I have no interest in being the moral police for morals that aren't necessarily correct in the first place.

Another person who can't form an argument.

What's the point in arguing with someone who thinks using violence to get their way is perfectly acceptable in life? You're just an arrogant imbecile and nothing more.
9004  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Corporal Punishment (Re: Our response to Dmytri Kleiner's misunderstanding of money on: November 12, 2012, 01:18:42 PM
I only took one glance at this and immediately knew what it was about though I read through just to be sure, the problem with these 'corporal punishment' advocates is they assume they are correct in what they are teaching their children, they aren't, in a lot of cases I've seen parents use violence against their children they are nothing more than power tripping cuntbags. You should check out one of George Carlins video where he rants entirely correctly about how children should be taught to question what they read and how parents won't teach them to question anything because they're afraid their own bullshit will be questioned as well.

This is all it is, it's power tripping, in most cases the parents are wrong and children are far more intelligent than adults are ever willing to admit, haven't you ever wondered why in a lot of criminal cases etc. involving children or in documentaries about children there often isn't a child to be found? Or for that matter if they are talked to it's usually with a bloody parent hovering over them making sure they don't say anything they don't like. It's a bit like with how stupid parents blame video games for their children's violence yet what they do is leave their child alone for ages, never talking to them and so the child only really has a video game to go on when it comes to what the real world is like.

If you need violence to communicate words then you're a fucking moron who shouldn't have had kids in the first place, ever tried speaking to your child? Or are you so thick you can't form a coherent sentence?
9005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I wrote an intro to bitcoins. Want you opinions on it. on: November 12, 2012, 12:26:55 PM
LoL I keep getting grilled. Look English is not my first language and I spent less than 12 minutes writing this. The opinions I was looking for are not for the language used but for the approach to Bitcoin. But thanks I really needed the mental spanking to remind myself I am expected to do better.

If I'm writing a long post or something for my website what I do is write it out on a word document first and get a dictionary to double check everything, www.dictionary.com seems to work just fine, I think the problem with your writing generally is you're using too many paragraphs unnecessarily and your sentences are far too short. Don't use unnecessary exclamation marks either if you're trying to come across as professional, you're also using way too many inverted commas.
9006  Economy / Economics / Re: What if USD collapses and they issue new currency. on: November 12, 2012, 12:08:56 PM
When inflation happens you get a rise in the amount of money you have and things will seem better for a little while but then when you look at things like gold and silver you'll realise you're completely fucked, it's happening with the UK now, I see the conservatives boasting about how much they're going to get the deficit down but I still see debt and I still see lots and lots of printing. Just wait until the prices start rising again and it will be like 2008 except worse.

The only question is how long they'll be able to keep it up and how long the rest of the world is going to go along with it.
9007  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Veteran's Day on: November 12, 2012, 11:25:37 AM
We get a similar thing in the UK as well but we call it 'Remembrance Day' it amazes me that people actually have the balls to ridicule others for not wanting to go out and kill a fellow human being.
9008  Economy / Economics / Re: A Resource Based Economy on: November 12, 2012, 08:24:49 AM
All systems of false authority are games, and poorly designed ones at that. Anything with artificial rules and boundaries should not be holding humanity back from reaching its highest potential.

9011  Other / Off-topic / Posts so stupid you can't even be bothered to argue with them on: November 11, 2012, 11:40:09 AM
There are times in a persons life when someone says something that is so incredibly stupid that you are actually incapable of giving a response without it simply devolving into a series of insults and mocking, not because the person is correct, but rather the person is so stupidly wrong they don't even see it themselves, I thought I'd post this thread up for some constructive hilarity, who knows? I might have said something? Trololoollool Cheesy

This thread doesn't have to be about just this forum it can be from anywhere even if it's a news article or something like that, I'd just thought I'd be constructive about this and let the people who are saying things know there are people who don't necessarily agree with them.
9012  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why I really hate SomethingAwful on: November 11, 2012, 08:39:05 AM
Also putting faith in the opinion of people who majored in finance, who are bankers and brokers is the most laughable thing I've ever heard of since a lot of them will almost certainly be Neo-Keynesians and Keynesian economics seems to me to be more of a religion than anything involving logic, mathematics or even common sense so I'm afraid you're going to get mocked for that one.

Hon, this right here is what's wrong with the majority of the BitCoin community. They think they know better than the professionals. They don't. This is exactly why all the BitCoin exchanges fail. This is why people get sucked into so many scams. The lay-man really doesn't know best. BitCoinTalk is an absolute textbook example of the Dunning-Kreuger effect.

-Zoey

I haven't fallen for scams so I think I do know better than these professionals  Roll Eyes yes, Bitcoin exchanges fail, yes, there are ponzi and investment schemes, however that isn't to do with Bitcoin, that's just humanity at work, you think you don't have to deal with scam artists in other currencies? Of course you do in fact some of these people you lot seem to blindly put your faith in have been involved in some scams bigger than anything people in the Bitcoin community have come up with so far and they've been at it for longer.

The problem here is not that you're criticizing Bitcoin but its the way that the problems you're all describing have nothing to do with the currency itself but the people and that's a fact, you lot need to learn how to take criticism yourself really, if scams are all that Bitcoin critics can come up with as a problem with the currency then it's probably going to do pretty damn well compared to all the other fiat currencies.

That is pretty good but it is a kind of western style. A lot of people draw like this, I don't mean to say the art itself is bad, but it's in a different style from what I am looking for.

I know what you mean don't worry Cheesy

That's interesting you should say that, I guess what I'll do is draw from reference more to match the style you're talking about, I think the problem is that I've been learning how to draw realistically you see if you checked out my photobucket account, been practicing that tons so I can get my proportions correct. I'm still kind of getting used to the manga style. What I'll do is carry on with that sketch I showed you and see if I can't get my drawings to look more like what you're after.

Also, Ghost in the shell ftw!

There are a lot of people out there who are more than capable of making judgements for themselves about which investments are a stupid idea or not, usually the people who fall for these cons are relatively small in number but they noise they make about it make it seem like it's a huge deal, if you ever want to know how to deal with scams etc. you should probably play EVE Online for a bit, it will take you ten minutes looking at the market places etc. carefully to realise who are the scammers and who are the honest traders.

Quote

Then you get to the point where you have an anthropomorphic fox with a huge erection on your coffee table and when someone says, "Ew gross!" they scream that they're being persecuted because someone rightfully made fun of them.

Well with the it's 'wrong' to have that sort of fetish situation there are people who argue that it's morally wrong to be gay yet there are people out there who think it's perfectly normal and that number is growing, seriously why don't you go and read back your post? You just claimed it's somehow right to go ahead and make fun of people yet you wonder why people get so pissed off about it? As far as I'm concerned as long as they aren't hurting anybody they have every right to do what they want, if you find it abnormal then don't bother them, it is actually pretty simple to deal with, no one is exactly forcing you to deal with this yet you've decided to come on this thread specifically to have a bitch fest about it and target the people you don't like.

A lot of the investments clearly are scams, I played EVE Online for a bit so I can see them a mile off Cheesy the thing these people don't realise is, there's constructive criticism and then there's just being a cunt which I've been on the receiving end of myself and it was one of those things where I realised I'm actually giving myself far better critique than some people ever could.

Good critique Example:

Anything less than this is just pathetic trolling in my view and it amazes me that these people have the time to troll other people for hours on end and yet they can't even provide basic fucking critique on what is technically wrong with something. I've seen the hate on Bitcoin and very little goes into the detail of why it's bad and the best the government bodies have been able to come up with is because it 'could' be used by criminals. Believe it or not, I do actually like criticism but unless you're going to go into the technical aspects of why something is bad then I'm going to call you out on your bullshit.

Interesting.  Roll Eyes

I can't decide if this is good or bad for Bitcoin because on one hand he is definitely getting introduced to the power of Bitcoin but on the other hand this power is used to oppress him, something I am strictly opposed and I also think he can't like it all too much, which might make him hate Bitcoin.

Heh.. hackers, as per usual, pissing against the wind I guess.

Thing about pissing against the wind is physics will get them eventually Tongue
