Trolling, especially pro-trolling, is flattery.   At least one of our new friends (assuming they are all different people) has been trying - and failing - to wind up the WO thread, too, so we're in the company of another reasonably decent coin Wink

A whole bunch of trolls turning up to bash the 'insignificant' Monero at once and tell us it's not worth buying as it is going down 90%?  Well - it must be a coincidence, right?   What for?  Maybe the new improved Monero is worrying some people - or more likely they shorted at the wrong time and are under water.

As Hueristic points out, trolls are usually a positive indicator.

Mind you this lot are pretty awful.  Far from plausible, more's the pity.  If they were any good it would be better - I remember when we used to have proper trolls.

Hey Rosewater - what's a guy got to do to get one of those truly wonderful hats?

Don't tell me I need to hand my pants over...

Keep your pants on!  Wink (a rare double entendre)

Yay I got a hat...   And no pants required.  Thanks mate!

If you're on Mac don't worry if it won't open, known 'library load failure' niggle is being fixed soon...

The establishment wants your coins.  Don't let them have them.

They chose to dump on BTC and Monero in particular.  Why? because they are the biggest threats to the established order of things. They can't beat them, so they have to buy them - but they want to buy them cheap.

Only sensible conclusion:  HODL.

I want to believe this... but how does it make sense?  If they want to BUY then why would they lose money selling to make the price lower so they could buy?

It just seems kinda self defeating.

I know it seems counter-intuitive, but there is not much volume around and picking the right exchanges to dump on at the right time is a method larger pockets can easily afford. it's possible to short the price with borrowed coins and dump them.

Retail buyers (like us) are generally holders and incapable of buying back in serious volume, as well as easily demoralised and hesitant to act in a jittery market.  There is not new money pouring in that provides much risk for the whales of being caught out.

A little stop-hunting can magnify a shorting move, too - as longs blow up and margins get called.   I am sure this kind of dump happens at strategic moments, when a weakness is spotted and the market is headed that way in any case - leverage is of course cheap if it works.  I am equally sure it is profitable when done right.   Often it's for profit in BTC, other times it's to accumulate extra XMR.

Have you never sold and bought back after a drop to increase your stash, then sold a little on the peak and kept it ready for the next dip?  That's day trading, we all get that. Forcing it down to engineer that move is just the next level.  Doing it on borrowed coins is more audacious still (and more profitable if you can cope with the risk).

There is demand for XMR, though - don't doubt it. There are greedy XMR whales out there, too - not that we will know who they are or see the money moving around, of course Wink

I think this shitcoin will drop back to $1.  There are too many other privacy coins that have much bigger communities and better development.

Then by by you brick  Grin Cheesy Wink

clearly nomen est omen. Doesn't know whether he (it?) is coming or going....

Nor anything about crypto or privacy, evidently...

But hey, it's what the ignore button is for.  I just count the ignored posts as a rough trolling indicator, more trolling is usually a good indicator of a price rise coming.

Trolling....

Simply: Bollocks

Still never touched a Tether market - doesn't feel right to me...

Me neither. Dodgy exchange, dodgy fractional reserve scheme. Risk: Off the fucking scale.

So I noticed the dump 3 days ago came right after the BTC dump.

I've been away and just catching up on a lot of shit right now.

So does anyone know why?

Well, the BTC dump seems to have been because of the stock markets' fall.  And Monero's drop was because of the BTC dump. XMR has been rising and falling in line with BTC - so if you do hold both, it's a win / win (or lose / lose).

However, I am concerned the BTC dump was engineered.  Why? Because hedge funds were excited that BTC is an 'uncorrelated' asset, which is the holy grail for them, a safe haven when all else is dumping.  So for BTC to follow stocks screws that up - and around 15,000 BTC dropped on Finex was enough to sort that 'myth' out - market wide.

Clever / unfortunate?  Who knows.  But I wish BTC had gone up with the stock market woes.  It would have finished the bear market for BTC in minutes.  And that would be.... nice.

You really are a dick sometimes.

Surprised you haven't Ignored him yet, TBH.

Makes this thread much more "sane".

You beat me to it, Bob - I have speeded up pages this way for a few years now.   I don't feel I have missed much.

Thanks for finding another great long read. A damn good insight into modern top-end competition and China's determined fight to get to no.1 in every aspect of hi-tech production. It's all Far-East based and the last prize is the chip itself. The West isn't even in competition and the investment numbers to even keep up are mind-boggling.
Well hey thanks for noticing, meriting and summarising. I bet there are Chinese generals right now dreaming of 'liberating' TSMC. In the name of 'the people'.

There was comment on that in there, as any reunification would mean they do 'have it all' - which is what china wants in the industry.  TSMC are a couple of generations ahead, though; working on getting to 5 nanometer tech while the mainland is largely struggling to get facilities from 28nm to 14.  Taiwan and (in the main that means TSMC) is at the supreme top end and in a position of hegemony.  Am in awe of the kind of investments in chip factories (in the $10 of billions EACH) required to be a player.

All this makes Bitmain look just a tiny niche player.  Perspective gained, but more than that, insight into the Chinese gov's plans and world view.

You have to wonder if any hi-tech manufacturing will exist outside the Far East at this rate. Silicon chips made in Swindon?  Not bloody likely!

They say that Monero still has huge growth potential, is that true? I think the price has calmed down and you can not dream of ToTheMoon. Do you think this is real?

A lot of things have a huge growth potential.  If you ask around here you will find a lot of people who bought way back and are many thousands of % up, which does show a good track record so far.

The problem with potential is it's hard to quantify in future in terms of a) how much, and b) when.

That's why hodling pays; it's often hard work.  No one here has a good enough crystal ball to give financial advice, but the majority believe.

The best advice?  Do your own research, make your own decision.  Then if you like the tech, the development and the support behind Monero? Well, join in... you will be welcome.

The real loser was someone who could have bought at $58, but was too busy calling Bitcoin dead back then to realise. So wrong, for so long.

What a total (demonstrably stupid) prick.

2. Rosewater makes his debut appearance near the end of October with a sizable contribution to bitcoin kicking off the 2017 FOMO. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336.msg23724498#msg23724498

goddamn...I never connected the dots

So... it was the pants that CAUSED the pump.  This is bigger than I ever even considered.   What an evil genius.

This reminds me about the time you all sent your pants in for pants tokens to the Mayor wallet and then something happened to the mayor but not the wallet.

Did any of you ever get your pants tokens even?

First we'd like to know what you've done with the mayor. Shortly after receiving the pants and attaining the high office status of legendary, he's mostly disappeared.  I fear the pants have been sold on the black trouser market in Tijuana never to return.  Perhaps an even more nefarious scandal is at play and the mayor needs our help.
Where were you on the night the WO pants market collapsed?

It wasn't just pants from your side of the pond, he took trousers from me over on my side.  If it was scam, it was a multinational scam in different lower garment currencies.

I trusted the Mayor, he seemed a good guy, so you could be right - maybe when he disappeared, someone else took over and liquidated our assets.  Do you think this Rosewater guy knows something?  I never heard anyone got tokens or anything, so we all really deserve to know what happened.
