921  Other / Meta / Bitcointalk CMS needs upgrading to allow trade feedback on: May 06, 2013, 03:05:46 PM
With so many scammers here on bitcointalk, it would be very helpful if Bitcointalk upgraded their CMS so we can give each others feedback ratings.  Anyone use digital point forums?  They've got a great system where where traders have a profile which can receive ratings, a bit like ebay.  It shouldn't cost a much money, but would be a huge improvement and prevent many people from getting scammed, plus if it's good for bitcointalk it's good for bitcoin!

We could raise the money for the upgrade quite easily from the bitcointalk community.

Who's with me?

Here's my address for fund raising:

923  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: [Scammer] penetration on: May 06, 2013, 02:31:52 PM
It was stupid of me... I have celiac disease and had just been poisoned by gluten which as well as being painful and extremely unpleasant it reves up my immune system and makes me go beserk and take stupid risks as well as making me so tired I can barely read anymore while also feeling intoxicated and out of control.  It's hard to imagine a few bread crumbs doing this but that what it does.  Last time I was 'glutened' a few months ago I lost 5BTC in a bad trade on Mtgox.  Good job I bought in at $14 so I'm still way up.  Just my damn disease ****ing with me.

^bet no ones heard that excuse before lol.

Why in hell would you even eat any Gluten if you are celiac???

It was an accident!  Wasn't actually breadcrumbs was sauce left over the grill I thought was gluten free...

It cold be both or it could be neither.
929  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bears? Where are you? Bulls? on: May 04, 2013, 08:53:56 PM
It can go either way and has recently. I won't be surprised if it hits $50 or if it hits $150 or even $175.

Agreed, though I think $150 is a bit more likely than $50 given all this China business.
930  Economy / Speculation / Re: China : The next price bump on: May 04, 2013, 08:52:44 PM
I agree it will take a little time for the Chinese who saw the program get their money into an exchange, so maybe by the end of the week that's coming up we'll see a big rise from it.
931  Economy / Speculation / Re: Clear Blue Skies Ahead on: May 04, 2013, 08:50:44 PM
WST is not big enough to cause a rise to $150, but I agree the future does look good for Bitcoin.
932  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin going to be between $50-$75 US tomorrow. :( on: May 04, 2013, 08:49:37 PM
Given the China news, it looks more like it might managed to hold above $100 this week or even go back up to $40, it's a topsy-turvey time!

If this is still open I'll do 500LTC for 15kCNC in batches of 100LTC for 3kCNC me paying first.
937  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Official Poll for "CureCoin" has been requested by Stanford University on: May 01, 2013, 07:38:12 PM
This idea doesn't make any sense.

Protein folding simulation is indeed very computationally expensive, but the results of such a simulation are not efficiently verifiable. Therefore, you cannot base a "proof of work" system on this, and the entire idea of CureCoin is meaningless.

Anyone have any answers to this?
938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Someone should clone PPC and call it Ecocoin on: April 30, 2013, 05:51:36 PM
Creating another coin because of the name is dumb. It's also a huge discredit to the countless hours of work Sunny has put into his own project. I feel sorry for the guy because he receives such little acknowledgement for his contributions towards cryptocurrency. PPCoin is continuing to prosper though, so perhaps that is reward enough for him.

If eager programmers have a hard time deriving the implementation, so do eager attackers, thus attacking will not eager to happen.

What makes you think that programmers have "hard time"? Nobody really cares...

Versions 0.1 and 0.2 were completely broken, there is very little interest to tear apart new version... But some people did that, and they say it is still broken...

The market cap of PPCoin is worth millions of dollars. If it was easy or trivial to attack and do double spends or whatever, why isn't it happening?  Roll Eyes That's not a rhetorical question, I am genuinely interested in your reasoning.

I also haven't seen anything that is worrying in version 0.3. Would you show me precisely what is so broken in version 0.3?

^ Interesting, I've been looking for a clear answer on some of these issues (and finding the 'energy-efficient' claim very...imaginative) and it seems I have found it...Thanks.

My understanding is PPCoin is only proof of work for the initial minting process. In the long run it will consume much less energy as it will use proof of stake for transactions and later minting of coins.

To the person who mentioned checkpointing, it is for security purposes and Sunny has said it will become advisory only by the end of the year at the latest.

Thanks for that I'd be interested in hearing replies to this.  If PPC isn't 'broken' but merely untested, then I would vote simply for a name change + homepage revamp seeing as it's still very early days rather than launching a new coin with a different name.

What's this I've read about the PPC code being uncommented?  Does this mean it's very hard for other programmers to work on?
939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Someone should clone PPC and call it Ecocoin on: April 30, 2013, 11:28:07 AM
If PPC is broken, I can't find that out as I can't read code, I have to be told it's broken by people I can trust.

How much time would it take a well qualified full time programmer to fix it?  Is it easier to launch another version called EcoCoin?  If a programmer(s) were hired and paid to do that, how much would it cost?

People are looking to invest in the best coin.  It makes no sense to continue to this pointless hashing race for years and years.  Whoever launches an attractively branded coin with a proof-of-stake (or similar) system where coins are generated by users earning interest instead of mining, will make a fortune, as well as save lots of electricity.

We could crowd fund a project like this, or offer shares on https://btct.co/.  Or some programmers could just do it (and let me know about it lol, i'd be willing to donate some BTC to get it going, and be the 'PR guy').
940  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: April 30, 2013, 11:17:36 AM
Personally I'm okay with the name. I like to call them Uncle Pep Pep coins.

But it seems SO many are not.

I understand re-branding is not something to be done lightly, but I do think it is possible and could have benefits, especially if it came with something like a mint while encrypted for casuals update.

Honestly I'm too new here to be talking shit, I just want the best for Pep Peps, and I feel like no one talks about it even though it is number 3 or whatever.

I understand that there are a lot of risks associated with re-branding, but we are still so early into the game that its the best time to do so if we choose to brand. Something like PTP to emphasize the Peer to Peer would be alright as well.

I would much prefer to brand our coin and differentiate ourselves by emphasizing the major attraction of our coin, that it is the FIRST long term energy efficient crypto currency out there. People will eventually get coin fatigue in the future and there's going to be so many different coins out there. And more coming out in the future.

Sunny, your statement of "our central marketing message from the beginning. But I think, peer-to-peer (i.e. decentralization) is the main innovation of cryptocurrency, having it in the name shouldn't be such a bad thing." is only good if there is only one coin in existence. But there are so many different flavors of coins out there. People already associate Bitcoin with P2P.

We have a super crazy awesome unique selling point and that should be the strength that we market.

Something like ECOCoin will immediately tell them that we are ecologically friendly and that sets us apart. Peer-To-Peer does nothing to differentiate us from the other Bitcoins because they are all Peer-To-Peer (that's the nature of Bitcoin itself). People will think....ECO and step back and think....wait a second....how?

(bolded by me for emphasis).

Yes I agree completely - I started a discussion about this here: (I actually propose launching a new coin called Ecocoin based on PPC)
