941  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: January 03, 2014, 08:09:31 PM
A question? After the fork, what will be the USP? It looks like we're giving up our current USP (which is the reason why it's such a respected newcomer). Won't Catcoin just become another mid-table Dogecoin competitor?

What's it's USP after the fork?
942  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: January 03, 2014, 07:58:00 PM
it is fucked now if we don't fix the retarget. Blocks should be mined at 10 minutes a block on average. Right now it's getting to 90 mins and more.

proof here, just look at the blocktimes: http://catchain.info/chain/Catcoin
sorry, speculators dug you into this hole. wait it out.

THE WAIT IS 90 minutes * 2016 = 181440 minutes / 60 = 3024 hours / 24 = 126 days.

Wait it out. LOL.
it took bitcoin more than 126 days to reach $0.05USD.

you rode the express train up, and now you're LOL you have to 'wait it out'?

you support my argument that sustainable, long-term growth in the currency is not what most people want.

after the fork, the catcoin community will see a small jump in the price, then this investor type will jump ship for the next profitable coin.

No. The investors will stay. The pump and dumpers will go. Once the coin's difficulty can change more quickly based on the hashrate, the coin's value will be more directly proportional to the difficulty; if the value goes down, THE COIN BECOMES EASIER TO MINE. Right now this isn't possible. After the fork it will be.

We're stuck because we can't get out of the current difficulty. If the coin does lose value, because of the change after the fork it will become profitable to mine, which then brings back more hashpower, more miners, and the value goes back up.
But back up to what? $1? Is that what this is all about??

I suspect the small offers are being posted by using an API, and someone is writing programs with loops to post lots of small offers. Cryptsy (or some other enterprising exchange) could counteract the effect of this by allowing users to collapse offers based on falling into ranges of values (like .00078-.000799999) into one pseudo-offer. Any any case, on Cryptsy, you can conveniently specify a high number to do a purchase and it will automatically sell at the best possible price, so in effect you can eat up dozens or hundreds of these ridiculous entries, in one buying step. By contrast, you have to be careful at the other Catcoin supporting "free" exchange (left unnamebd), because if you try to do this, they'll pocket the difference, so you have to laboriously type each purchase amount to match each offer on the market to get the best price.

Sell on Cryptsy, buy from CoinedUp. You can sweep up a few sell orders on CoinedUp. Even if they're keeping the change (on the sale of the lower priced sell orders), the overall buy price is still lower than you'd pay using Cryptsy. That's been my experience.

Ok, now I get why you guys stop mining catcoins - to scare weak hand speculators out Tongue But don't forget to switch back your miners when the diff drops  Cool
OK
946  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Catcoin - Scrypt meow! on: January 02, 2014, 06:30:34 AM
you are arguably skipping out on a moral obligation to continue mining, and passing the costs and pains of that onto others. If you know estimation is going to happen, and you don't intend to continue mining during the next difficulty level because you expect to earn better profits elsewhere
this argument isn't market manipulation as much as you're attempting emotional blackmail.  If you want a moral currency, start MoralOrelCoin.

I feel a miner puts in the hash rate, deprives themselves of the opportunity to mine other currencies with less hassle, commits real-world resources, and then has to put up with cryptsy's bullshit delays.  Then they have to come to this thread and read why mining isn't welcome for catcoins.  All of this resolves any 'moral obligation' a miner has to catcoin.

as for 'passing the costs-and-pains', ahahahahaha.  miners own the means of production.  they are the primary producers of the very commodity you're trading and speculating in.  It is the traders, speculators, pump-and-dumpers, that are on the "B" Ark.  If you are not mining, you're arguably a parasite on the working class, the entrepreneur miner.  don't punch the left tit while you suckle the right.

If you're going to white-knight somebody, at least try to white-knight someone who's actually still around to white knight FOR...
I'm a miner, and i'm here.  i'm waiting for a market-incentivised excuse to mine catcoins, because i am not irrationally exuberant.

for now, it's more profitable for me to buy catcoins from panicked speculators.
Yup! MORE CHEAP CATCOINS!!!

948  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple: Does it scare you? on: January 01, 2014, 07:36:01 PM
I'm fond of saying that Ripple is like Bitcoin for people who don't want to topple the government. If I'm still using dollars and euros in 10 years, I'd prefer to do it in Ripple. The feds should feel free to guarantee my Citibank IOUs, as they already do.
IOUs have to be paid. I'd rather trade with what I have so I know exactly where I stand. A person/institution can do a lot of trading through Ripple with NO financial investment, just trust. I don't agree with this principle. I still believe that if a large financial institution defaults then a lot of ordinary users will have their balances raided, just like what's going on now with QE. Institutions fail, people pay.
949  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Time to boycott coinmarketcap.com on: January 01, 2014, 09:49:48 AM
You know if you look on the top right corner of coinmarketcap.com, there is a button called "Filter Non-Mineable". When you click that Ripple disappear.  Smiley

Thanks!

953  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MOON] Mooncoin: You know where it's headed! LAUNCHING 12/30 @ 1PM EST on: December 31, 2013, 03:46:45 AM

================================
Mooncoin is intended to provide the thrill of big coin hunting and trading but with long-term stability. Based on sane block release targets, Mooncoin should provide years of good mining for all ages and equipment types.
================================

I think I get it now. Good luck with the coin. With all the chaos and pumpin' n' dumpin' going on I hope the coin survives long enough to realise that dream.

Don't think about what the enemy may do; think about what he can do - ancient wisdom.

And I know what they can do...

Ripple is credit 2.0
Banking 2.0...
the real fun is for you to explore.
I did explore. When I discovered what it was I decided to steer well clear of that timebomb.
