9581  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The last Batch of AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner, Now $1730 per unit on: July 03, 2014, 06:05:42 PM
New price for AntMiner S2 1 TH/s Miner Batch 4: 1730 USD  each one, shipping cost included.

Perhaps, it is time for a word about S2 upgrade with a new chip?
9582  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 03, 2014, 05:57:15 PM
Maybe the down trend is Bitmain taking units offline from their S3 farm in order to package them up and ship.

Yeah that's who I was considering being one of the 'big players' but still with the rate hardware production is going I wouldn't be so swayed against a levelling out difficulty.

I dont disagree with the folks saying they are going to be making so much money because after all we all expect the BTC price to increase.

The issue is people have to pay using BTC which makes this deal not very nice since the unit won't return the original BTC you paid for them. Yes you will make money in the long run though.

Yeah that's true. I forgot to factor in the BTC price rise in my posts. It's a very legitimate argument, so hard to predict when the bitcoin has actually hit it's maximum, which it very likely hasn't. It's always a gamble  Wink

I don't understand why people make the distinction between prices in BTC and $$. If you have the coinbase account it is all the same.
Buy BTC instantly for $$ on Coinbase (up to $1000), pay with BTC that you just got, so essentially you paid with $$.
9583  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: July 03, 2014, 05:45:32 PM
Spondoolies,

Please can you add the option to purchase shipping in your store.

I wanted to send my hosted miners elsewhere, but wire transfer seems to be the only option and that's not something I can quickly or easily do.

TIA

Good idea

On that note i need a way to change my shipping address for my september and august orders , there is no option on the site to do that

I second this question (switch from the home address to a hosting site), but i thought that a simple email to sales would suffice....right?
9584  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 03, 2014, 05:29:24 PM

I strongly suspect that we'll see a glut of mining hardware on the market in Q3 that hardware manufacturers can't sell at a profit, which will lead to consolidation and some companies folding.

Would you care to elaborate on this? This is difficult to ascertain, in my opinion because we don't have their profitability numbers. I just hope that the scammiest, lying companies will not survive. People in mining are incredibly forgiving, even stupidly so.

Without a technological breakthrough, ~.5W/GH looks to be about the limit using current technology, and we're rapidly approaching the point where multiple companies have fairly equivalent hardware (Bitmain, KNC, Spondoolies, and Bitfury). Future power efficiency improvements are going to be very hard to come by.

There are fixed costs associated with all miners for things like heatsinks, fans, power supplies, PCBs, board components, chips, manufacturing, and shipping, so there is a lower limit on miner pricing.

We know that Bitmain was able to make a profit when they sold the S1 at ~$250, and I suspect they can do the same with the S3, which would put the bottom floor cost of a S3 at around .5$/GH.

Spondoolies sold the SP30 at .69$/GH for the Roadstress group buy, and they have said multiple times that they won't sell hardware at a loss in SP10 discussions, so I strongly suspect their SP30 costs are around .5$/GH.

S3 ROI numbers look iffy at $1/GH and a ~17B difficulty, so who is going to buy all this new hardware at a 34B or 51B difficulty if the price to manufacture the hardware is ~.5$/GH?

Unless the price of BTC goes up, I think we're rapidly reaching the point where it no longer makes economic sense to manufacture new hardware, and will reach that point in Q4.

Well make the wall .5 watts

the lowest power prices are 6 or 7 cents a k-watt  make btc at 700 usd   so with that in mind . when diff reaches

447g  vs the  16.8 g it is now   .  no one can make any money.

If you believe this is going to continue   btc will have to be higher then 700usd  by feb 2015.

maybe 1400 usd by feb 2015 or no gear is not worth buying

if bitcoin truly takes off, mining equipment (or 240v hookups and 300A panel) plus a small solar panel (2-5kw) might be included in some new housing construction.
I agree with the calculations, but it all depends on the price. With $2000 BTC tomorrow, antminer s1 will be flying off ebay at $400 and above and people will be fighting for preorders again.

Come September, S3 would feel quite inadequate, unless it becomes dirt cheap. Bitmain needs to accelerate S4 development (undervolted BM1382 chips), similar in form factor to S2. However, even at 2Th/s, S4 would need to sell at no more than $1700 in September to be competitive as Sp-30 would be at 6th for ~5400 (with shipping). This is such a brutal game...
9587  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S3 - Profit is Impossible on: July 03, 2014, 03:06:02 PM
How is this for a reason: If you don't mine, than your bitcoin is potentially worth nothing because someone might vote to change it in a way that you don't like.

everyone who has bitcoin should mine, but how much?

Easy to calculate:

M (minimal mining in Th/s)=F X P
where F is a a fraction that your bitcoin represents in 21000000
P-is the power of network in Th (currently ~120000)

F=Y/B
Y-bitcoins that you have
B=21000000

So, if you have 100 BTC, you need to mine (or hire someone to mine for you) at M=100/21000000 X 120000=0.57Th/s=570Gh/s
I is probably better to be ahead (mine more than minimal)
Essentially, if you have less than 30BTC, one antminer S1 or equivalent is OK
at 100BTC-3-4 antminers S1 or one antminer S1 and one antminer S3 is enough
9588  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 02, 2014, 05:55:11 PM
I've got a Corsair RM850 which is running two over clocked S1's.  I was thinking of getting two S3's, and was wondering what PSU to get, I would like to get a PSU that has 8 PCI-e connectors.  What would you guys suggest for such a PSU?

check here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=486121
for the number of connectors, number of rails (go with a single rail), and max current
prices are outdated
9589  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 02, 2014, 05:36:30 PM
Would this PSU support (3) S3's:

EVGA SuperNOVA 1300G2 ATX12V/EPS12V 1300W 80Plus Gold Power Supply 120-G2-1300-XR
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00COIZTZM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Again, assuming that each S3 draws 390WAC at the wall, the EVGA SuperNOVA 1300G2 would give you around 19% headroom (81% load) with 3x S3s.

yes, but if you truly need 4 connectors per S3 for a mild overclock to 390W (I doubt it), then you need to have 4 more connectors (EVGA has 8 total). I solved it by ordering splitters: there is an awful lot of discussion whether splitters with 16awg wires are needed or 18awg is enough. According to this:
http://www.stayonline.com/reference-circuit-ampacity.aspx
each wire can carry 7amps, so for three wires it is 21ampsX12v=252W carrying capacity for 18awg wires in PCIe splitter. there is a debate how much wattage can plastic connectors take, but at least 18awg wires seems to be able to take it.

order 16awg from cablez here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg7579936#msg7579936

or 18awg
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-PCIEXSPLIT6-6-Inch-Express-Splitter/dp/B004NNTVT6/

6-pin PCI-E standard specification is 75W...could sustain up to 125W...BitMain is trying to fit these specs with 2 6-pin PCI-E ...IMHO...

ZiG

KnC is pumping 420W through ONE PCI-E while cooling the plastic part of the connector with a fan.
I wouldn't try it, unless it is a high current connector.
~180-200W should be OK in most cases from a reliable PSU because this is what a single blade of mildly overclocked S1 gets from PSU through the single PCI-E, but how reliable it would be-I don't know.
Edit: here is some discussion of limits:

9590  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANN: BITMAIN has Tested Its 28nm Bitcoin Mining Chip BM1382 on: July 02, 2014, 05:25:38 PM
BTW, the EVGA 1300 SuperNova G2 has only 6 PCI-E. If you want to overclock two S3, you need 8 PCI-E. I guess you can buy some adapters to fit the two missing.

I went for a Corsair RM-1000.

No, EVGA1300 G2 has 8 connectors: 4x1 (single) and 2x2(double)=8
I have it, so I checked.

Strange it clearly said 6 on the box. Damm, if a knew i would have bought that one.

not to beat up this topic too much, but on the box it says:
6X6+2 pin PCI-E
and on the next line
2X6pin PCI-E

It's OK since you bought a good supply as well... Smiley
Overall, I always consult here for power supplies:

Pretty good day for bitcoin

I wonder when the price will start showing all the good news of the past months.

$650 is a joke

yes it is, price should be around $1500 if we follow the long term log graph trend by Stephen Reed (SlipperySlope):
Below is delta from the trend and one can see that we are scraping the bottom:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ArD8rjI3DD1WdFIzNDFMeEhVSzhwcEVXZDVzdVpGU2c#gid=7

nobody should sell until we are at least at +0.4

At $1000 Tax value at UK customs - Not worth me even making an order anymore - The higher you tax an item harder it is to pass customs.

Bitmain should allow the buyer to have some input on the value at least for the EU or UK!!

dude,

I am Ants' fan, less than $1000, not equal to $1000...have you bought Antminers?
Suspected shell from other competitors...

MOQ is 2 units and EU gets raped with VAT.

My experience, you can order one in one order if you only need one unit, they will confirm your order manually.

Minimun is 2 units / order, u cant buy just 1

you can-from resellers

yeah paying 600 € for 1 unit.... ermmmm no thanks Wink

$475 (strange price, I know, below bitmain)-$549 in US
9596  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: July 01, 2014, 04:55:45 PM
Just got an S2 today.  For some reason I can't get the miner to keep my pool settings after shutdown.
I update the pools and change the IP address no problem.  It runs on my pools and I can access it on the new IP address. But then if I do a reset or just shut it down and restart it all the changes are gone.  It's back to the factory settings.
I can't find anything in the manual that I'm doing wrong or not doing.  Any suggestions?
Replace the SD card and it will fix it. Just need a $5 4GB one from amazon

no need for the new SD card. See my post on the main thread. i had exactly the same condition. Solution: download the latest (6/19) tar file from Bitmain support on your laptop. While connected to the miner from the laptop, go to upgrade, search for the file, then flash. the "wheel" will be turning. wait...they say a minute, I waited five just in case because the 'wheel" never stops turning, disconnect the ethernet cable from the laptop back to router. power cycle the miner-and you are good to go to set up the new ip address, settings, etc.

Its a symptom of something larger though, he can flash to his hearts content but theres no point when there's a $5 fix.

most likely-not because they specifically acknowledged exactly this problem in their recent software update

fix bug: miner configuration can't saved in the SD card occasionally.

Also rcvd an S2 today after customs held it for 24 hrs.

fired up ok, shame about the shoddy lid with no 'tongues' to keep the side flaps down.

HOWEVER, the fans are acting up in as much as they power up, & up, & up then cut out

then 5 seconds later they power up, & up & up then cut out again

then 5 seconds later they power up, & up & up then cut out again

then 5 seconds later they power up, & up & up then cut out again

shes hashing around 1000 but the noise is giving me toothache right now its been at it the whole time its been running.

i tried removing the metal plate to see if it made any diff and it didnt.

shes also running 4-5C hotter than my other 3...

any ideas??

Direct a moderate extra fan airflow toward the intake fans; it seems to help to reduce the internal fan's speed, hence noise.
Lower ambient temperature in the room helps as well...
