1  Other / Beginners & Help / Best Mining Hardware Investment - Graphics Cards or BFL Jalapeno? on: May 24, 2013, 02:36:06 PM
So, first thing I want to ask is if anyone has received BFL's Jalapeno, and if they are mining with it as we speak? Is this a viable option right now? How long does shipping take after buying it? And should you buy from BFL's site?

That aside, I am looking at investing in a graphics card to boost my hash speed. Here is the link to the card I was looking at:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130680&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814130680&gclid=COGXxb_-rbcCFSjZQgodbmEAMg

It's an EVGA GeForce 520. I could get it for $40. Any idea about what this thing could do in terms of hashing? And if this one is bad, what is the best mining graphics card? The most bang for your buck?

I have money to invest in bitcoin mining, and I would like to do it right the first time. Should I go graphics cards or BFL products like the Jalapeno?

Thank you all who reply to this post!

Cheers  Smiley
2  Other / Beginners & Help / Trying to Mine on CPU with GUI Miner on: May 24, 2013, 03:46:31 AM
Hello!

The GUI Miner says that there is "Nothing to Mine On". Does that mean I need OpenCL.dll?

Feeling Confused - Embarrassed
3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you need BitCoin client for GUI Miner? on: May 24, 2013, 03:17:47 AM
Okay, GUI Miner isn't working at the moment, but maybe that's because I am using the CPU and need to download the drivers needed for OpenCL.dll? It says there is nothing to mine on.

I will try it.
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Do you need BitCoin client for GUI Miner? on: May 24, 2013, 02:31:30 AM
I am wondering. Do you need the Bitcoin client installed to run GUI Miner?
Is it possible to run GUI Miner on a separate computer using my BTC Guild username? And will it be sent to my wallet?
Also, if you have Bitcoin, must it be running while you are running GUI Miner?

Thank you!

8  Other / Beginners & Help / CGMINER Not Recognizing GPU or Devices to Mine? on: May 24, 2013, 01:01:03 AM
Hello!

I am running cgminer on windows, however, when i run cgminer, it says that no GPUs are available, and that no devices are detected.

I want to run cgminer off of only my CPU at the moment to test BitCoin Mining (I do not pay for electricity nor do I use this computer so it is a tiny bit profitable for me).

Any suggestions?

Thank you!
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: cgminer OpenCL.dll error! ??? on: May 23, 2013, 11:13:04 PM
When I Google Install Open CL I continue to get the Intel SDK 2013 one, and that is unsupported by my hardware Sad

Is there a link for Windows Vista out there somewhere?
10  Other / Beginners & Help / cgminer OpenCL.dll error! ??? on: May 23, 2013, 10:59:12 PM
Hello!

I am trying to get cgminer to work on my computer (I run Windows). I've downloaded the windows zip file, extracted it to my computer, and made the batch file. The batchfile reads:

cgminer.exe -o http://stratum.btcguild:3333 -u (myUserNameHere) -p 123

When I then proceed to click on mining.bat (I went through the un-checking hidden file extensions and everything), I get an error that says:

This application failed to start because OpenCL.dll failed to be found.

What should I do???

Thank you!
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining Pool that supports Ubuntu 12.10? on: May 23, 2013, 01:47:55 AM
Does there exist a step-by-step tutorial for downloading, installing, and running cgminer for Bitcoin user a UBUNTU 12.10 32-bit platform?

Any tutorial I come across that I try to follow and I get errors.  Sad I'm a Ubuntu Noob.

Any help is appreciated.

You just need mining software that's supported by ubuntu.  Then type in the pool's address into the mining software.  I'm sure most mining software is compatible.  Here's one that looks pre-built and should work:  http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/cgminer-3.1.1-x86_64-built.tar.bz2

I just downloaded and extracted the file, but I am not sure how to install the software using Ubuntu 12.10? There is no Install or .exe

Thank you!

Okay, I see.

Where do I find the wallet.dat file? And how is my wallet secure after backing it up? If the wallet.dat is on my computer 24/7 to run Bitcoin, then if my wallet.dat gets hacked, what good will a wallet.dat do?
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to find Wallet Address on: May 22, 2013, 08:13:48 PM
Thank you!

So, I have the "address" of my Bitcoin wallet. Is it true that this address will change? And that I need to back it up regularly whenever I get any transactions? And I only need to backup this one address? Thanks!

Fantastic. I finally have it running. Thank you so much!

I'm having a lot of trouble here. Before I downloaded BitCoin on Windows and used a .exe.

However, I have a different computer now and it is running Ubuntu 12.10. I have tried installing the client and have absolutely no idea what PPA is or how to install software on Ubuntu. Is there a good tutorial somewhere to do this?
