Unblocking while traveling

the dude never stops working. going above and beyond, as usual
2  Other / Meta / Re: retiring an account in the age of AI on: Today at 10:19:03 AM
But, if there are no one willing to paint your account, then you need to force them to do it, either you start to promote ponzi scheme, cheating, abusing trust feedback etc. I'm sure people will paint your account.

im too lazy to do any of that.

but it does look like just asking theymos/staff to permanently lock it and announcing it somewhere is the best bet. post a signed btc addy and pgp key in a message and have some folks quote them.

a "retired" forum tag would rock though, ngl

3  Other / Meta / Re: retiring an account in the age of AI on: July 02, 2024, 12:53:27 AM
thanks for the comments.

i will say im not planning on leaving and have not had any email/accounts compromised. its just i hate loose ends. so i would want a "lock it and leave it" mode; basically start a new account after if needed.

for some reason i thought it was hard to permanently lock an account here.

I have read a post somewhere where a user tried to train AI to post like a particular user. I guess it was to post like "Franky1," but the result came out negative.  Can't locate the thread link for now.

that sounds interesting if you find it please post a link.
4  Other / Meta / retiring an account in the age of AI on: July 01, 2024, 12:28:51 PM
so it occurs to me that an AI could be trained on an abandoned users posts to the point of it being able to mimic the original account holder. it could mimic the original account holder to the point of fooling casual inspection.

so to permanently retire an account (mine for example) i thought of asking a bunch of DT1 etc to red paint my account with neg trust and say its toast and done. the object being to make the account useless as to the point its no longer of value.

but the AI impersonation bit disturbs me as i can see it happening. or am i in tinfoil land again.

any comments welcome

edit: aside from setting up OTP and setting a password to something ridiculous, then destroying them both. i want something that makes the underlying account useless for taking over in the 1st place.

FYI (US only):
https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy2438

TL;DR
Quote
Crypto brokers, including exchanges, will need to report gross proceeds for crypto sales starting from 2026. This will include crypto sales during 2025.

Furthermore, brokers will need to report information about the tax basis of some cryptos starting in 2027 for sales that occurred in 2026.

I am not sure how the true basis can be determined by brokers if I bought bitcoin myself, then sent it to Kraken, for example, to sell it.

not sure how coinbase calculates it but its cost basis is waaaaay off on my stuff when i look

but i send form 8949 in at the end of the tax year anyway, so it can be matched on that.

trump vs biden is like choosing between shooting yourself in the head with a semiauto vs a revolver

I've never been so bearish as now.

Gox + German goverment will be atleast 50.000 to 100.000 coins to be dumped.

Who knows if the U.S goverment ore  another entity will be selling thousands of coins.

meh.

there will always will entities that can dump huge amount of coins. always has.
8  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Nano 3 [unofficial thread] on: June 28, 2024, 02:00:43 PM
the fact they make like $0.15 per day

last time i hired an engineer from that part of the world, it cost $75k annual. cheaper than other places, but the 15 cent myth is something i've not been able to replicate.

i think the 0.15 cents refers to what the nano 3 earns per day.

i would like power stats too.
9  Economy / Reputation / Re: Share your milestone memory: My 17,000th post on: June 27, 2024, 07:51:46 PM
Thank you to all those posting words of kindness. It is wonderful reading up on so many posts here. Unfortunately many members did not elaborate on their own experiences and sentiments related to reaching milestones that had some meaning to them. It would be nice to read them.

I will probably keep the thread open until the end of this week in order to allow others to share memories of reaching their own milestones.

congrats on your history.. cheers and may your stats ever increase  Grin

only special thing i remember about my forum stats was my activity and post count were the same for a longish time some time back. not sure if its a milestone but i remember it for some reason lol

Not sure how you can show your face in this forum, you must be embarrassed  shorely....??

cultist have a real hard time adapting when its finally time to face reality; they just arent prepared. so they might as well stay where their fantasy world can still be looked back on.

I'm not sure if there were others but some people send to 1BitcoinEaterAddressDontSendf59kuE... just for fun I guess?

Then there's about 595 here lost forever 1111111111111111111114oLvT2... again, not sure why

for coins to be truly consider gone forever they need to be burned via OP_RETURN otherwise they are just sitting an an addy no one has the key to.

may be consider purely semantic but it makes a difference. it also removed those from the UTXO set.

Also, liquid cooling is very efficient, but I don't like the feeling of having liquid flowing inside the PC case. I prefer good air cooling.

well be aware AMD recommended a  240 or 360 mm rad with water cooling for their 5900/5950 parts with are 12/24 and 16/32 treads . all big cores.

of course big honking air coolers can put up some serious cooling if done right.
ive run several AIO water setups over many years for the cpu with no problems.. and i run then pumps 24/7 with the fans occasionally turning off .  both radiators and pumps are corsair.. a Corsair iCUE H150i Elite Capellix Liquid CPU Cooler for an amd 5900X thats run constant for about a year (i never turn the main computers off) . the corsair H80 (i think) and thats was built like 7 years ago? it runs 24/7 also and is still running im my home lab.

so a name brand aio is is likely to last, its the custom loops that could be issues - mainly due to operator error issues.

remember HEAT DEGRADES (well slowly) electronics, so good cooling on the NVMEs drives, chipset, and cpu gpu(s) plus serious case airflow

i have a lianli O11 dynamic. 360 rad on the side, then on the ceiling and floor each has 2 140s and a 120

Is super CPU even needed with games being run by the GPU?

100% yes

something needs to feed the gpu

for games 8 cores, 32 gigs ram, pcie 4x4 lanes nvme on CPU side for storage and 12 gb vid card is like minimum today.

Saw this deal yesterday - still available

just a comment on the RGB aspect.. fwiw i found a use for RGB fans, i have one set that changes color based on CPU temp, another set for GPU temp.  very dim white at idle, then yellow orange red based on temp

AI loads are a weird back and forth show between the two sets. other loads (games. transcoding) will just max out one or the other to the hot color.

but finally a use for RGB.. thats my story and im sticking to it
