couldn't find the "Picture of your mining farm" thread so i guess this will do. phase 1 Niiice Was but the room turned into a furriness hitting 47Degrees, the A/C units are shit anyone any recommendations on cooling that doesnt involve proper DC grade heat extraction and recovery? Its not hard, work out how much power (energy) you are pulling out and then get the equivalent amount of cooling power. Heres some ideas to get you going: Heat is measured in either British Thermal Units (BTU) or Kilowatts (KW). 1KW is equivalent to 3412BTUs. Most aircon units are measured in BTU's so I'll work in that unit. Equipment BTU = Total wattage for all equipment x 3.5 Room Area BTU = Length (m) x Width (m) x 337 Lighting BTU = Total wattage for all lighting x 4.25 There seems to be no windows, or people working in there permanently so you can probably leave those calculations out. Total Heat Load = Room Area BTU + Windows BTU + Total Occupant BTU + Equipment BTU + Lighting BTU So you need enough aircon cooling to handle that amount of heat. I'd say on equipment alone you would need minimum 100KW or 350K BTU's of cooling It only appears that you have two of them, thats max 50K BTU if you have the most powerful (25K BTU) wall-split units, so you would need 14 of them. 100kw - 110kw of power you need to cool. (Took the power numbers from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVQkQ37BGhk) 1 RT = 3.5168525 kW so you need ~32.1 I would round up to 35-40 tons. That is two large CRACs and outdoor condensing unit. Most of the stuff has a 45-60 day lead time, plus budget 1-2 weeks of install. I would hire an engineer and get it done right. No real do overs.

Will these even work right without a true hold down? I just got mine and I am a bit dazed. No cases for the controllers, none of the fans where hooked up, and then noticed they use the lid and plastic clips to keep the heat sinks on the chips.

Well that would be nice but I would be very surprised if they actually did. And I can't emphasize the "very" enough! Then I will have doubled my hash from 4THs to 8THs in one week (just got S2 today).
Nice! Good to hear bitmain are shipping on time. Knc could learn a thing or two from them I think its more tricky wording from them.
Customers will be contacted after 7 days, not that the shipping will start.
They say that "After 7 days from today the exchange will be frozen" and "The products will then be shipped from stock as soon as possible" So the only question - how long is "as soon as possible"? If they have these in stock, as they claim, then "as soon as possible" should mean straight away, right? If it's in stock, then all they need is a UPS label. I think we'll find out if knc truly had 400 "in stock" if they ship before the end of this week. Or whether they were misleading customers - again - with phoney delivery dates. Its another dragged out delay tactic, all well planned.
Shipments could be April, May, June.
In the end I think they are grateful that they have somewhere to unload the older equipment, as they upgrade the datacenters to the Neptunes.
That would be pure evil if they did that! SHIPPING OF THE FRANKENJUP AKA 3TH JUPITER WILL BE AFTER APRIL 20, per kurt from KNC on the knc forum I keep getting the run around from support trying to get the dimensions of the frankenjup boxes. Does anyone know? How can this stuff be in stock if they don't even know the size of what they are shipping?

Just a hint...
I had 3 very first Neptune orders.
I refunded them the day after this plan b bullshit.
Now I have 14+ th working....
What do you think?
Antminers?

I will say at least they gave the customers a bunch of options for compensation. I have a hosting client that has a large order of these and he wasn't happy but was happy they gave him options. 5 week delay is major in ASIC-land.
How are you going to handle putting more than one card in a case if they require water cooling? Curious, not trying to troll.

Devil's Advocate: The possibility that there could actually be some sort of tampering, and that he actually is right. Afterall, the Bitcoin Foundation has /a lot more/ to lose than 500BnUSD if that's the case.
but the malleability doesn't steal in itself.. it is just like making fake receipts. Mt Gox still had to process the second withdrawal via customer service. There is no way that a business goes bankrupt from the returns counter unless everyone is in on it or it is just a weak coverup. This scam runs deep and once the FBI is finally done with their SR investigation we may know a lot more on this... it seems there are a few combinations of scam going on. Karpeles has been in denial or complicit for a long time.. probably a bit of both The the resend on the withdrawls where fully automated. No CS was involved.

Anyone used the USPS Money Order withdrawal before?

...but please tell me you will at least have room in the case for standard ATX power supplies. The tangle of wires on the outside of the machine is really quite ridiculous. It was understandable on the Jupiters due to the time constraints but there is really no excuse for it on the Neptunes.
Perhaps, but the reduced footprint brought shipping costs down significantly. I'll pass the concern on though. Yeah, if we are talking needed 2-3 power supplies. Would be nice to install them into the case to keep the wiring clean.

On .97 Jupiter anyone seeing a big difference between what CGminer is reporting and what BTCGuild is reporting for hash rate?
Seeing 513GH cgminer and 440GH on BTCGuild.

I dont think you understand what Im trying to calculate here? IM trying to figure out the hashrate where mining costs and income are in balance (for a given BTC exchange rate and for the current block reward). Thats just a number that depends on a lot of variables, but mostly electricity cost, energy efficiency, and to some extend, investment horizon, hardware production costs. There is no timeline on when we will approach this, there is no historical data to check against.
This has already happened at least once previously, when difficulty levelled out for a year or so until the exchange rate increased. Does your calculator indicate that would have happened? What happened in 2012 was different. We mined with GPU's and gpu pricing is not dependent on bitcoin profitability. AMD (and nVidia) price their products for gamers mostly. They didnt charge huge premiums when GPU mining was highly profitable, and when bitcoin mining stopped being profitable, it didnt cause AMD to lower its prices. ASICs pricing will behave very different since they serve no other market besides mining. Still, lets see what we get. Lets take January 2012 BTC exchange rate ~$5 Assuming most people were doing GPU mining. Lets take a 5870 @350Mh @200W at the wall. Lets say it costed $250. If I plug those numbers in I get a network speed of 5000 GH. edit: I forgot block reward was double back then. So Id get 1000GH. In reality it was ~8000 GH. If you take in to account FPGA mining, and given the range of possible outcomes of my current spreadsheet, thats close enough in my book. All in, new equipment, psu, cpu, ram, cards, fans, and power distribution 1 gigahash cost ~$1,000. You could do cheaper with used cards but not in bulk.

There is already a thread on it here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=277901.0The problem isn't what they promise. The problem is when will you get what you were promised. Last summer, BFL made a promise to deliver hashing hardware in the fall that sounded like an amazing deal. They still haven't delivered that hardware over a year later. You would be wise to pick a company that can actually deliver product without year long delays. Which company can?

Whatever they decide, one thing is for sure. They will first work on getting the 200TH network up asap.
Everyone else already paid. Is 200TH the original amount or did they double it?

The forum is overrun with the hate of the day with various "hardware"(/vaporware) vendors, it has become hard to discuss anything else. Many of the participants are behaving like animals.
I'm sensitive to the risk of suppressing complaints. There have been many scam hardware "vendors" of various degrees. People should be able to communicate about the risks, seek recourse, etc. At the same time, these complaints have reached an intensity where they are self defeating. If you tell me vendor X is a scam I don't know if its because they are or because you're crazy, because you're a shill for another vendor, because you're a shill for them trying to make the complainers look crazy, if you're a miner trying to scare people out of mining, etc. As a warning this information is no longer very helpful.
I have multiple people I know (and have met in person and know not to be socks) begging me to do something about the sad state of this subforum. But I'm at a loss... how do we defeat troll culture when it's taking the form of "concern troll" about concerns we should be careful to preserve? And how can we do it without making me and miningbuddy censors who have to vet every single post?
Does anyone have any great ideas?
More active moderation, keep people from posting the same thing 10 times in 5 different threads. Once the abusers quit getting attention they will get bored and move on. As it stands today I would rather see the custom hardware forum go away then to continue in this same direction.

The over engineering reduces the need for costly delays. Had BFL done that even with all their other problems/lies customers would have gotten their rigs months earlier.
BFL's chips turned out 6 times worse than the estimated ratings. Nobody over engineers that much True it provides some latitude but you can't fix stupid. BFL just "should" have known better (especially when FPGA were nearly 300% over power spec). Still it would have allowed them to launch reduced hashing power boards in 2012 while working on a new design. That is what I never got why they didn't just release back in Nov. Everyone body would have taken half their hash rate in a heartbeat. My guess is power the consumption was only a small part of the truth.

so for arguments sake if i invest $4,000 at .002 a share it gives me 2 million shares I'll make 5,200BTC for the year? is my math correct?
2,000,000 x 0.002 = 4000 BTC = $400,000$4,000 / 100 = 40 BTC / 0.002 = 20,000 shares = 52.8 BTC/yr That's IF they can reach and maintain 2% of the BTC Hashrate for the entire year, I assume? Ok that makes more sense, that it's pretty worthless compared to buying your own equipment. If you look at the Mining calculators, most barely make ROI in a year, and henceforth make barely anything at all. With an investment like this (or ASICMINER) their overall hashrate goes up along with the rest of the network. So you continue to make money year after year into the future. Not just for one year before it becomes worthless. Furthermore 2% was just a random example. Their actual goal is ~10% or more. Their chips only cost them $9-10 and so they only pay about $2-3/GH/s. Compared to anywhere from $20 for KnC to $7 something for Cointerra if you want to drop $15k For them to keep the 2% they would need to add capacity at the same rate that the network is increasing. IE ~50% just this month alone. Buildings with large installations of power 1,000 amp range aren't cheap, and buildings with multiple redundant feeds are even more expensive. Some of the best data centers only run 1 watt of computing power to 1 watt of cooling.

Does XCrowd even have an engineering development team?
I believe that your question has already been answered several times. It says "pay on delivery". So I take it ordering doesn't require you forking over money yet?
Most likely the site will let you pay for the whole thing if you so desire, sans escrow. Yet another avenue for the scam. We shall see. That option will not be available for at least 5 months. Sorry to disappoint. It's very unclear. What exactly does this mean? Will the site force customers to fork the full amount upfront on Monday or not? Or will the payment be due against delivery via escrow so the site will only take "sign ups" on Monday? You are talking about refunds but also talking about pay against delivery. So confusing. Please clarify. Thanks. That post was directed at Anenome5. You would be able to reserve your units on Monday and will then be instructed on how to complete your order by sending your deposit to a trusted third party (e.g. Escrow.com or John K) to be released to xCrowd only after you've confirmed the delivery yourself. You will have the option of only depositing 30% with the escrow providers for a 10% premium. Refund requests will be processed within 48 hours and you won't even have to go through us to have it processed as it can be settled by your escrow agent. Our refund policy and payment methods will be explained in more details on Monday 12:00 (PDT). Does XCrowd have an engineering team yet?
Yes. The open listings are still in place as we are always open to talking to more talented engineers. Most our R&D work is being currently done by a third party design house with over 200 IC design and verification engineers. Although we won't be ready to ship for at least 4 months (currently still at pre-tape out) it still is an ambitious target to meet so we literally have the best working on it with previous experience in time sensitive projects.
Hello xcrowd!
While I have gone through escrow.com payment options, there might be a problem with paying with paypal or credit card since they request premier service. I would like to know if there is any other paying option on reservation. Will there be reservation with paying also in BTC?
Thanks for all the answers!
John K will be handling all our BTC escrow transaction for a low fee. Escrow.com should be able to process normal credit card transactions and wire transfers. However if you could email us your correspondence with them we'll look into it and confirm it with them to clarify everything before Monday. Thanks in advance. You web site is busted in Chrome + Firefox.
