Yes, it's part of the bbcode tag for any SMF forum or any bbcode-based forum, but just like I said, it wasn't available or even known to any user here to be used before. Also, all moving images (.gif and .apng) in the forum were disabled, including this one, of course for the same reason (annoying for some or most users) Theymos disabled it. The reason he mentioned it is "he doesn't see any use for it" is now too old. He disabled it back in 2011, and it's 2025 now. I don't know if signature was a thing back then, but if it was enabled, I am sure campaign managers would use this tag for their signature campaigns. As some of us are familiar with the other forum, we see that campaign managers actually use this BBCode in most signatures and it's not bad to be honest. It's been 13 long years and since people did not feel the need of that bbcode, let it remain like how it is now. I did not know it. I am not surprised that theymos disabled it because the head admin is like an old-school man, and he is uncomfortable with animated things. LoyceV pointed that the head admin disabled animated avatars because he felt it is annoying experience. Here is his announcement. OK, APNGs are now detected. I don't know where you get the idea of marquee tag here, but it was never available since the very start i have joined here (2017) probably it wasnt available in the earlier too as it looks like a very old feature to be used with. I don't think that that will ever happen, realistically. This whole style of forum is just not as popular anymore. To have even a chance of making it as popular as it was in its glory days, the whole structure of the forum would have to change, and I think that it's more important to retain the fundamental soul of the forum. So I envision the forum perpetually existing as a place for a certain niche crowd who still appreciates this kind of forum. This doesn't mean stagnation: the forum can still grow and improve while remaining niche.
Boss thank you for keeping the forum as it is. A Townsquare for folks to share ideas and dramas. For what my delinquent behavior is worth, i find it more comfortable here bitcointalk even if I am not a member in good standing, rather than facebook. Here members are not weighed according to their coins(some maybe), but of merit. Pls revisit that homestead idea instead. Hehe |
