1  Economy / Lending / Why do you take a loan on this forum? on: March 27, 2024, 07:26:37 AM
Just a random question that popped into my mind, why do you take a loan? because I were someone who in need, I will ask my family first, second is my close friends, third is my friends, then I either ask this forum or take a loan from banks. Fortunately I haven't in situation where I'm really hopeless and no one don't help me, that's why I have never took a loan on this forum.

Most of people use "personal" as their reason, but some of them ask a loan for gambling or trading. Someone say they're actually have funds in their banks or wallets, so in case their gambling or trading didn't work like that what they expect, they can pay off the loan. I mean, why you not fund it using your own money instead of taking out a loan?

Some might ask a loan to send their tokens because they lack of gas fees which is understandable.

Someone could ask a loan for subscribe porn videos because they don't want to link their identity, which also understandable.

The other reason that make sense is for emergency needs to pay medical bills because they need huge amount in short time.

Those are the reasons that make me think why someone ask a loan on this forum are make sense, but you can add other reasons too.

I also want to ask for lenders, have you ever face a legal problem? because you don't know what your coins is used for and the original source of coins you received (CEX are against this).
2  Economy / Reputation / rby distrust me without any reason on: June 11, 2023, 10:06:55 AM
I distrust him because he give a positive feedback to bbigtart who was previously busted someone wearing double signature. Firstly he didn't give a positive feedback, but the first one is robelneo, I suggest him to change his positive feedback to neutral feedback, but after few posts I realized rby sent a positive feedback to and disagree with my point.

But two weeks later someone busted bbigtart was using AI to post, this make robelneo delete his positive feedback and rby change his positive feedback to neutral feedback.

I remember someone warned both of us, but we still proceeded to hand the positive feedback to the user for bursting scam Grin
I didn't delete my positive feedback, rather I turned it to neutral while being able to capture the AI writing as a reason to change feedback from positive to neutral.

I don't to be hard on my trust list, but I just want to wait for few months to see their progress either they will start to change their habit to leave a positive feedback to a worthy user or not. That's why I not exclude them when they already delete/change their positive feedback before.

Now the funny thing rby distrust me, without any solid reason!

~Helena Yu's judgement is Distrusted by:
1. NEW rby (Trust: neutral) (336 Merit earned) (Trust list) (BPIP)

He didn't reach my PM to talk about the reason I distrust him, so I'd better to open a new thread and explain it here.

Did I distrust or trust wrong user? did I leave an inappropriate feedback or flag? did I support or oppose a flag? show me.

This is retaliation distrust, can this be said as abuse of trust list?
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / My first pizza purchase using Bitcoin in lightning network on: February 25, 2023, 02:54:34 PM
5 years ago or February 25, 2018 was the first pizza purchase using Bitcoin in lightning network by Laszlo Hanyecz, that's make me interested for me to buy a pizza using Bitcoin in lightning network too. Then I search a pizza restaurant which accept Bitcoin payment, however they only accept Bitcoin on-chain network. Actually I can just pay it since I have Bitcoin on-chain network, but I take a challenge for only pay in lightning network. Surprisingly they're still don't know the existence of lightning network, it took me for 10-15 minutes to explain them and ask to install a lightning network wallet e.g. Bluewallet since this wallet is really easy to use.

So I ordered a pizza with black olive topping, it's cost for $6 or 25,740 Satoshis. When I have pay it, they're quite shocking because the fee is very very low. After that, they saying they have a plan to accept Bitcoin in lightning network payment because it will help the customer to not get charged for higher fees and they do get the same benefit too.

Have you ever bought a pizza using Bitcoin in lightning network? Wink

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The future of CEX and no privacy world, will you still become an anonymous? on: February 05, 2023, 11:21:43 AM
Every year Bitcoin adoption is always improving especially the price, market cap, trading volume, exchange and other things. Bitcoin is still grey area in majority of countries, now Bitcoin is already legal as a commodities, even though some countries still ban Bitcoin. But there's a big improvement between government and Bitcoin, it's where El Salvador and Central African Republic officially accept Bitcoin as a currency.

El Salvador started to give $30 for every citizens by creating an account and complete KYC verification in Chivo wallet. AFAIK Nayib Bukele doesn't force their citizens to use Chivo wallet, on the other hands I don't see any activity from Central African Republic to create their own wallet or exchange. Many of Bitcoin enthusiasts are don't like with Chivo wallet due to closed source, custodial and ask KYC verification. It's a way for the El Salvador's government to have a control over their citizens funds, make sure they're not done money laundering or any illegal things, taxing their profit, etc.

After all any government will try to tightening their laws which will reduce privacy of every citizen. Although it's not happen yet, but I've thinking the day when Bitcoin is accepted as legal tender in most of countries, a lot centralized exchanges building in each country just like stock exchange or securities, and it's already normal to hear someone own a Bitcoin.

Imagine the future of centralized exchange would be:
  • They will have a reserved funds and offer insurance funds maximum of (let's say $250,000 for each person). I know Binance have SAFU, but Binance isn't fully regulated, this one is different
  • The company will have an auditor and they're transparent to release their financial report for every year.
  • They can reverse your transaction, in case you've send Bitcoin to wrong address, network, hacked, etc.

But, you need to give all of your information and you're need to agree if the centralized exchange will ask you more verification including a street selfie or anything else. If you not accept it, they've a right to confiscate or frozen your coins.

However you still have a way to trade Bitcoin anonymously by using decentralized exchange/P2P with mixer, no KYC verification, enjoy 100% privacy, holding your coins on hardware wallet/cold storage. But it would be tricky if you want to cash out your coins, because you only have 2 ways:
  • P2P with someone you trusted
  • Using gift card

But, if you've make a mistake and your banks are successfully detect your funds came from suspicious activity, they will ask you for multiple questions and you need to make them satisfy or convince them. I don't think all privacy oriented people will able to escape from this, there's still a chance you will show your identity.

So what's your choice? are you okay to give your KYC and trust to centralized exchange where they will offer insurance, protect from mistakenly transaction, transparent and you have a right to report to the court when the exchange done wrong. Or you will still become your own bank and privacy oriented, even it will make you harder to enjoy 100% anonymity from future no privacy world? Smiley
5  Economy / Service Discussion / How owner of CEX can hide his identity? recent case -Bithumb former owner arrest on: February 03, 2023, 04:28:03 AM
A month ago there's a news where Lee Jung-Hoon aka Bithumb's former owner acquitted in the first instance because he was allegedly defrauded 100 billion won ($70 million) during negotiations for the acquisition of Bithumb from Kim Byung-gun since October 2018 [1].

Recently there's a news where Kang Jong-hyun is manipulating and embezzling the stock price of Bithumb exchange. Kang Jong-hyun is a shareholder of Bithumb exchange and he's suspected a Bithumb's former owner [2].

But Bithumb denying if Kang John-hyun is a former owner of their exchange and they said he has no relation to Bithumb.

Bithumb Korea distanced itself from Kang, who has also been identified as a former chairman of the exchange, saying he is connected to Vidente (121800), a publicly traded broadcasting equipment company that is a shareholder of Bithumb.
"Kang Jong-Hyun is not related to Bithumb Korea. Definitely, he was NOT the former chairman of Bithumb Korea. NEVER," the company's PR team said in an email. "We deny allegations and suspicions that he is our owner."

However there's a news where they said Kang Jong-hyun is an anonymous owner of Bithumb [3]. If you search on google and everywhere you wouldn't find who's actually the owner of Bithumb because there are a lot articles talk about Kang Jong-hyun is former owner or actually the real owner.

The question is how possible a big centralized exchange like Bithumb which is currently at top 10 position in Coinmarketcap [4] can be anonymous? I believe they're a licensed and regulated, so there's no possible they can hide their identity.

There's 3 possible answer in this case:
1. The journalist is right for saying Kang John-hyun is the real Bithumb's owner.
2. Bithumb is right for saying Kang John-hyun have no relation with them.
3. The journalist is right for saying Kang John-hyun is the former owner of Bithumb, but who's the real of Bithumb owner?

Aside of those questions, I think Bithumb is can't be trusted because there are few accusations have been created in this forum before [5] [6] [7].

6  Other / Beginners & Help / [INFO] 3 Frequent mistakes done by forum members. on: January 29, 2023, 08:36:14 AM
I'm aware if this kind this has been discussed before in the past, but I think it's need repetition since I see many users in this forum still not care with these mistakes:

1. Compress your image to make it lighter and resize your image.
You don't need to upload your heavy image which will make people need to wait more longer to see the image properly. You can compress your image in very simple and fast, just upload your image in this site https://tinypng.com/ and then download it after it's completed.

When you have upload your image to third party hosting image e.g. imgbb or imgur and copy the BBCode in your post, make sure you click the preview first and if the image is really big and it make your screen is full with your image alone, just use "width=400" or "height=400" don't need to use width and height in the same image since it would make the image looks really terrible.

Code:
[img width=400]https://[/img]

2. Quote only the part you want to reply.
Many users still quoting someone post in full, moreover they're don't care to delete the previous quoted text which can make it look like a pyramid. There's no need to quote previous quoted if you're only want to reply the latest post, I don't think any user will read the previous quote since it's quite hard to read especially it's full of text. If you're still don't quite understand about BBCode, you can learn it from this thread [TIPS] to avoid pyramid quotes (for Newbies)

Quote from: z
Quote from: y
Quote from: x
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
Cras cursus pulvinar magna, et efficitur augue tristique vel.
Aliquam maximus tortor vitae cursus dictum.
Code:
[quote=z][quote=y][quote=x]Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. [/quote]
Cras cursus pulvinar magna, et efficitur augue tristique vel.[/quote]
Aliquam maximus tortor vitae cursus dictum.[/quote]

Make it shorter

Quote from: z
Aliquam maximus tortor vitae cursus dictum.
Code:
[quote=z]Aliquam maximus tortor vitae cursus dictum.[/quote]

3. Familiarize to use report to moderator button, not only giving advice to the @OP
Giving advice to the @OP about his mistake isn't wrong, but most of the @OP aren't care to comeback to their own thread and continue to discuss, most of them only abandon it. Some of the advice like:
  • Move this topic to x section
  • Lock this topic to prevent from spam
  • Posting in a row isn't allowed

If you not report the post and only wait the @OP to correct his mistake, only 10% will do it.

4. Proper quoting and linking sources to avoid plagiarism

Plagiarism will lead to a ban of your Bitcointalk account because it's against Bitcointalk's forum rules:

33. Posting plagiarized content is not allowed.[e]
[e]33. This includes both copying parts or the entirety of other users' posts or threads and copying content from external sources (e.g. other websites) and passing it as your own.

Plagiarism (not marking copied content writen by other people) is not allowed and is a strong offense leading to a ban if you do it. Chances to get your account back are very low.
So please be careful and don't plagiarize by paying attention to:

  • When copy-pasting content from sources outside the forum (Twitter, News etc) you need to provide a link to the original source. In addition, you should use the "quote" function to show that it's not your original content:
    Quote
  • If you find helpful information on Bitcointalk, it is sufficient if you simply quote this message directly. Each message can be quoted with a function in the upper right corner (next to +Merit), as long as it is not a locked topic. If it should be locked, copy the text, put it in quote and add the link to this message. You can get the link to the respective message by clicking on the title of the message (Re:...) and then copying it as url.
  • For translated contend, please ask the original poster for consent or at least add a link above the translated part, to show that it is not your original work.
  • If you have copied a longer text from a different website, you should add the link above the content to show in advance, where the content is copied from.
  • Don't copy useless Shitposts for Signature Spam.
  • If suitable, you can also add quotation marks (" ") and / or italic letters.
7  Economy / Services / [OPEN] Charity Signature and Avatar Campaign - Auction for ColdKey victims on: January 20, 2023, 02:34:00 PM
There's a charity auction created by smoothie to help the victim scammed by Coldkey/yogg. The charity auction is expected will begin from January 31st 2023, you can donate any collectible or you can join the auction for those collectibles that have been donated.

Currently there are 23 collectibles have been donated from several forum members (smoothie, Frank AlpenCoin, Henkcryptotank, QuakerBull, Kryptowerk, Est2013, Humble Bitcoiners, DaveF, NovemberMan, geophphreigh, polymerbit, raritycheck, Mbitr, MrCryptHodl, minerjones, and ClayCastCrypto).

In order to give an awareness about the charity auction, I've create a charity signature campaign. This is a free campaign, so don't expect you will get paid by wearing the signature, avatar, and personal text.

Although it's a free campaign and there's no campaign manager, anyone shouldn't spam or creating low value post. You don't have to leave any application post in order to participate the campaign.

This charity campaign will end when the charity auction is already end too.

Thank you for everyone who want to be a part in this campaign Smiley

8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Today is Lightning Network's 7th Birthday on: January 14, 2023, 01:41:44 PM
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIGHTNING NETWORK

It's been 7 years after Joseph Poon and Thaddeus Dryja create an idea to fix Bitcoin scalability issue through second layer network e.g. lightning network. Although lightning network seems to be less discussed, but the fact is many wallets and exchanges already support lightning network. Also we can see on the graph where it show the sum of channel value and total of channel created is steady increasing with slight decrease during dump market.

If you want to see list of open source wallet support lighting network Open-source Lightning wallets

If you want to see list of exchanges support lightning network https://github.com/theDavidCoen/LightningExchanges

yogg was very known trusted user in this forum, he was once a Chipmixer participant, but he choose to leave it and promote his project [ANN] Coldkey™ -- Secure cold storage wallet cards.

There's no problem about it until this thread was created My Cold Keys Just Got Swiped! All Halving Sets!!, this user lost all of his coins since yogg was swiped his funds, there's a user said yogg was saved the private keys of at least one specific series of pre-funded coldkeys.

What can we learn from this story?
1. Don't trust anyone including the most highest trusted user in this forum!
2. Don't buy cold wallet/hardware wallet from second hand user e.g. not from official seller.
3. Only buy the popular, open source and secure cold wallet/hardware wallet e.g. trezor.
4. If you buy or get collectibles in this forum, just use it as a collection.
5. Don't need to worry and afraid if you think the firm/company which created the cold wallet/hardware wallet will save your seeds or private keys because it's generated randomly Seed Generation in Hardware Wallets.

Is there anything else I missed? feel free to give any suggestions  Smiley

|Ratimov have been revealed if he already made 100,000 good reports from July 2019 to Feb 2022, it's really a big numbers and I wonder how he can be very active to report those bunch of low value posts since it would be time consuming. Although he get 562 bad reports, but his statistic is 100% which mean very close to 100% so the forum rounded the amount. Would be Ratimov become the next moderator?

|LTC Casino is a scam casino that allow their gamblers to play without KYC and using VPN. Many people was welcome about this casino and interested to gamble because most of casinos in this forum are licensed, not allow VPN and mandatory KYC. Based on my observations, users in this forum are have high privacy, so they're trying to avoid gamble on KYC casino. But bad thing happen on this casino after someone create accusations thread and the money they scammed is really high for 1496 LTC or worth for $15,000 at that time. The casino block the victim account and they said it's under investigation, but provider of the gambling said they found nothing. Although it's already resolved, but it took for around 6 months to solve it.

|April fools'! merit implementation isn't really perfect way to combat against shitposter, now theymos require IQ testing to make it's more strict and only a good poster who can complete this verification. Based on the statistic not many users can able to reach 160 points, it's mostly a Chipmixer participants who able to reach it.|

|There's a hacker who attack chipmixer.com, transactions on April 24, 2022 may get compromised. However it's already resolved and the site back to online, but the site is only for information to use Tor network to prevent from possible kind attack in the future. There's nothing should be worried until now, as long as there's no sanction from U.S. to mixer.|

|It's already become a tradition in this forum for users bake their own pizza to celebrate Bitcoin pizza day on May 22. What make it different than the previous years is, the winner will get pizza badge and share of 5 mBTC. The top 5 winners are fillippone, icopress, EFS, Phoenix Anka, and xzone. All of them got pizza badge, but it seems only fillippone will carry the badge for a year, while the others are only short times.|

|Bitlucy is a casino get promoted and handled by reputable manager in this forum, they run a signature campaign and run a free bet promotion too. Many people welcome in very positive since they feel the casino wouldn't scam since the manager is risking his own reputation. But there's many complaints towards this casino especially the withdrawal delay, after that it turns the casino is scam and the manager who promote the casino also get scammed since he has no way to access the bankroll. In this matter there's a drama between Royse777 vs JollyGood and yahoo62278.|

|Gianluca95 as a campaign manager promoting shady site e.g. shaker.finance where the representative self claim it's a trusted Bitcoin mixing service. However based on some research it found the representative can't give a proof if they're trusted and continuously attacking users who disagree with their opinions. But based on the signature campaign, the manager wrote if he doesn't have affiliated with this site, so he doesn't get red tagged|

|It was started from Bitlucy case, but there's a heat between BitcoinGirl.Club and JollyGood since they have different opinion about it. First BitcoinGirl.Club leave red tag to JollyGood and then JollyGood leave red tag to BitcoinGirl.Club, since BitcoinGirl.Club think he doesn't deserve to get red tag, he open a thread to ask to the communities. However the result is JollyGood revised his feedback from negative to neutral while BitcoinGirl.Club still stand with his negative feedback|

|Most users using Preev to convert their Bitcoin to fiat, it's simple and real time based, so it's very useful to send Bitcoin with the most accurate amounts. But Preev has been down for two times in this year and then a user in this forum create Pnnv that work iike Preev. However Preev is already back online, honestly I don't know if people that usually use Preev is migrating to Pnnv or still stick with Preev.|

|Probably the best forum improvement in this year since we can easily distinguish between the original poster and forum posters, usually an original poster will make a post which like moderation and trying to keep the discussion on topic. Usually I'm more focus to read the @OP replying rather than the whole posts because original poster only replying to a new opinion, so I only need to read few paragraph to sum the conclusion rather than read the same opinions over and over.|

|The first Bitcoin pumpkin carving contest, this is a creative idea to celebrate Halloween day and there's many users are very talented in carving, it's not easy since pumpkin's skin is really tough. |There's many articles spreading FUD about Bitcoin Proof Of Work since they claim Bitcoin mining used a lot energy and it will increase pollution, so they're suggest to change POW to POS. But Proof Of Stake will kill 100% Bitcoin decentralization, also Bitcoin mining doesn't really use a lot energy and cause a lot pollution, because there's a renewable energy can be used. However there's a forum user, name NotATether has an idea to create this excellent project to combat against the idea to change Bitcoin protocol. It get a lot support by add this project to forum factoid and a charity signature campaign.

|Because of the FTX bankruptcy and people are still holding their coins on centralized exchange, so a petition about withdraw your coins on every exchanges is really important. No doubt people are still leave their coins on the exchange because they think wallet and exchange are same, also there's an exchange offer SAFU or insured funds which they think their funds will be safe. The steady growth from Nigerian communities makes theymos realize the local board request.|

I don't include LUNA/UST and FTX cases since I think it doesn't really related with this forum, also I think everyone already know about it.
11  Other / Meta / [SOLVED] First column image is smaller than the others, a bug? on: December 31, 2022, 03:44:23 AM
Hello everyone,

I wonder why the image on the first column are smaller than the others while all of the images are have same "width=200". When I click the preview of my post, all of the images are fine, but when I post, the size on the first column is changing.

Does this is a bug or there's something wrong about the BBCode?

Thanks

Anyway you could participate to vote in this contest.
