242  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / HD 7970 [0.75 BTC bounty to the cheapest possible 4X7970 Configuration] on: March 17, 2012, 07:07:50 AM
I am interested in buying HD 7970 for mining bitcoins. But I am wondering if a HD 7970 will work on a pci 2.0 motherboard.
As Its not intended for gaming but just for mining. And this bandwidth shouldn't make a difference on the mining performance.
I want to 100% make sure it works before I go out and buy this as I am worried the screen could end up showing nothing.

Anyone tested or know for sure it would work?
I had in the past tried a HD 5770 on a pci 1.0 slot which supposedly said would work fine. But nothing showed on the screen.
So I am just worried the same thing won't happen here.

Me buying the pci 2.0 instead of pci 3.0 would save me a lot of money. So hopefully it works.

Also I heard of extender cables, so i can get a motherboard with 4 slots and just extend the cable into it hangs out.
As 4 7970 wouldn't fit. Which site sell these extender cables? And which cables would work?
As I plan on a four 7970 build. What is the cheapest possible configuration?

0.75 BTC bounty, To the cheapest possible configuration. And list the parts and price.
I am in Canada so note the shipping costs as well. And sites that do ship to Canada.

Prize will be distributed to the winner on March 30th.
243  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / i0coin Exchange open on: December 23, 2011, 10:17:01 AM
https://www.vircurex.com/ An exchange has been open.

A lot of work has been put into i0coin from a group of people, i have made a logo for the i0coin, DoubleC doing programming, site put up of i0coin, and bug fixes.

http://i0coin.bitparking.com/

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36425.1600
Is where all the discussion towards i0coin and enough interest brought programmers and people willing to bring i0coin to life.

Merged mining, mine i0coin, namecoin and bitcoin at the same time.
Mine here, post username, and get i0coin freebies, as listed in bounty & freebies list
http://mmpool.bitparking.com/pool

New i0coin logo

i0coin has advantages in several ways, its like a Solidcoin version 1, with no CPF, no centralization, and no super nodes. And the old solidcoin was very successful and even got to as much as 0.04 Bitcents.
But now from this new solidcoin 2.0, and all of this add on which defeats the purpose of what the meaning of a decentralized currency means, it is only worth 0.007 now.

I believe that i0coin as a community driven project, from interest from several people, that it could potentially overcome Solidcoin 2.0. And i0coin could perhaps be the replacement for Solidcoin 1.0 which was successful.

i0coin is trading already, not very high, but with more work. We can make something out of our community.
i0coin could use a new client, a client for its own currency to have a look to it and a feel.
Feel free to help push this community driven project, that was volunteered by me, and DoubleC, and several others.

And any work put towards a new client design, different from the Bitcoin client, and Solidcoin client, and Litecoin, i have a 50,000 i0coin bounty up for this.

500 i0coins (20 spots open) for posting why i0coins is good, and what could make it successful.
That could be on bitcointalk.org as a different thread, on a forum, etc.

i0coin Features

-(75%-/10%+) Max difficulty adjustments
-3 min block rates
-6 hour adjustments
-120 blocks
-A place for solidcoin 1.0 that was successful, then ruined
-Community driven project
-No CPF, no supernodes, no premining

Bounty & Freebies

-50,000 i0c towards a new i0coin client
-750 i0c(10 spots open) Accepting on there pool & trading
-500 i0c(20 spots open) posting about i0coin, threads, sites, etc
-30 i0c (250 spots open)(1 per person) Free i0coins to anyone who trades, post evidence
-10 i0c (250 spots open)(1 per person) Free i0coins to anyone who posts a i0coin address
-5 i0c(500 spots open)(1 per person) http://mmpool.bitparking.com/pool Free i0coins to anyone who uses the merge mining, post your user name account for verification.

244  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / I0coin showing some life on: December 04, 2011, 06:10:48 AM
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36425.msg640032#msg640032

Getting back to the topic, the vircurex exchange has announced i0coin support when block 160,000 is reached and hash power increases.

I made an attempt at fixing the following i0coin bugs:

* Fix for the timetravel/zeitgeist exploit. This is a block-forking change meaning that all clients must upgrade to this version. To enable time to update it turns on at block 150,000.
* Add a checkpoint at bock 127,360
* Remove the list of bitcoin DNS seed nodes
* Change the hardcoded i0coin seed nodes to the only active node I know of accepting connections
* Remove the outdated windows binaries included in the archive
* Changed the IRC code to use the lfnet server instead of freenode

Source (tarball and git repository) and details at http://i0coin.bitparking.com.

*Source and windows binaries are available for version 32506 of i0coin. See the 'changes' selection below for full details. This contains many backported bug fixes and improvements from recent bitcoin releases. It also enables merged mining as an auxiliary chain on the main block chain, activating at block 160,000.*

New site: http://i0coin.bitparking.com/
I0coin is showing potential life, and people are fixing and working on it atm.
Difficulty was at 40 for a while hovering dead, now its almost 200 as speaking

Namecoin and i0coin merged mining is in effect, in testing, will be all done by 160,000 block

245  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / GoldCoins (GC) Idea promotion on: December 02, 2011, 09:16:09 AM
Goldcoins{A coin whose goal is to distribute out fast, have only 100K exist, and only mine off other transaction; thus preventing deflation. A currency whose remains mostly of trading. BTC and other alt currency devalues because of this problem, supply to demand ratio remains the same. Also coins will be lost over time; lost of wallets, etc. which will cause the existence to drop, thus causing valuation on goldcoins as time goes on}

   Alt-Currencies Value

   Goldcoin Supply-Demand ratio Value

Hence it got its name as Goldcoin

Goldcoins
-------------

1) Set existing limit of 100K(Prevents Huge supplies and lowering of price if demand remains same)
2) Once fully distributed out, miners then mine off others transactions
3) Set block rate of 100
4) Difficulty adjustment of per 2 hours
5) Difficulty adjustments increase a maximum of 10% per 2 hours; and 80% drop is max
This above difficulty adjustments will help to spread it to the rest
6) Difficulty drops of 10% is maximum( Helps to not have few people get such large amounts, rather helps to distribute more evenly)
7) Early miners will be setting the price, like 5K for 0.1btc could be a starting price; and then 10 different people
may buy 500 each, and those may spread 500 into another 10 people, etc. (This will help to spread it to everyone; and anyone can buy it,
so if mining stops, there is always some on the market to grab, and this will be a trading currency. Aimed at the goal of having no supply increases, but keeping 100K existing forever, and no more. Alt-currencies flaw is a continuing supply increase amount for years to come; resulting in inflation, and devaluation of currency. Goldcoin helps to spread in a quick time, and eliminate flaws.)

Natural trading through markets, will eventually spread it to the rest,
and a scarce amount of 100K, and a unique design, should make many
interested in this concept. No Centralization planed like solidcoin.
Meant to fully support the idea of it.

If someone truly spend the time this thing could be promoted.
And If a large amount of people lets say millions if achieved one day
wanted this, we could always deal with MGC, milliGoldcoins.
1 MGC= 0.0001 GC

Set up
----------
1) Make logos (Gold->Stable->Value)
2) Make Graphs pointing Bitcoin price crash to increasing supply
3) Promotion of client, logos, its own site. (Example: www.goldcoins.org)
4) Spread the word

I originally thought of this idea, you may use it at your wish if a donation on every client is placed towards the creator of this idea.

Second option;

Goldcoins
-------------
1) Each downloading of the client starts you with 1000 Goldcoins (One Per IP address)
2) When 100K is fully distributed, it will become a trading currency
3) It will always only be a mining of transactions
4) Goldcoins over time will be lost, and this should cause a overtime of increase in value.

Third Option;

Goldcoins
-------------

1) Set existing limit of 100K(Prevents Huge supplies and lowering of price if demand remains same)
2) I will distribute it out(Setting price)
3) I will be the fist spark, then Early traders will be setting the price, like 5K for 0.1btc could be a starting price; and then 10 different people
may buy 500 each, and those may spread 500 into another 10 people, etc. (This will help to spread it to everyone; and anyone can buy it,

4) Miners mine off transactions per trade

251  Other / Off-topic / Oh dear this isn't good?!? on: October 08, 2011, 03:56:52 AM
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111007204955AA0Svwn

After the first year of data collection, the LHC experimental collaborations started to release their preliminary results concerning searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model in proton-proton collisions.[54][55][56][57] No evidence of new particles was detected in the 2010 data. As a result, bounds were set on the allowed parameter space of various extensions of the Standard Model, such as models with large extra dimensions, constrained versions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, and others.[58][59][60]

->>>>>> On 4 october 2011 it was reported that mini black hole; has been created at the LHC.

Densest Matter Created in Big-Bang Machine, National Geographic Daily News</ref>

Between July and August 2011, results of searches for the Higgs boson and for exotic particles, based on the data collected during the first half of the 2011 run, were presented in conferences in Grenoble[61] and Mumbai.[62] In the latter conference it was reported that, despite hints of a Higgs signal in earlier data, ATLAS and CMS exclude with 95% confidence level the existence of a Higgs boson with the properties predicted by the Standard Model over most of the mass region between 145 and 466 GeV.[63] The searches for new particles did not yield signals either, allowing to further constrain the parameter space of various extensions of the Standard Model, including its supersymmetric extensions.[64][65]

Someone is trying to post this to warn the rest of other people; and its removing off the website; to prevent public fear; i am worried?!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Large_Hadron_Collider
Its on there now?Huh?!!!

Its been removed?
I saw myself; i can confirm with yahoo answer; its true.
252  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / I am wondering on: October 07, 2011, 02:41:43 AM
Tenebrix only works on a cpu; do to its code. Isn't possible to get it somehow to work on a gpu; it would be slower; properly a lot slower;
but even so; is it possible to get a gpu; to mine at all? even 1/1000th speed of cpu.

Can a gpu simulate a cpu; and run it; or am i not getting something?
253  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / I0coin starting to come back on: October 05, 2011, 12:10:06 AM
I was quite smart; i saw everyone left in a hurry and difficulty dropped to 150 in i0coin from 900.
http://allchains.info/
So i went from earning like 2K to 16K a day; and i have well over 73K.

And now after two days; its already just starting i mean just beginning;
https://btc-e.com/i0c_exchanger

The first few buy orders popped up; just for like new currencies;
Its super rare that you get to mine at 150 difficulty; i mean super rare.
If i was you i would dive into it quickly before it sky rockets back up.
And its already started at the bottom.

So you don't have a lot of time.
I started two days ago; the only few people mining. And the hash rate on the network been going slowly up.
And once people know this;
It should skyrocket.

I know you might say its dead;
But that's what everyone says when they see it just starting.
Go back a year ago; i would say bitcoin is nothing; and now i am like its $$$.

Same thing can occur; all it takes is people jumping in; putting in bids, and asks,
and boom its back on track.
And i think 0.0001 is too low.

Solidcoin looks dead; and i0coin has pretty good rules in; just needs more hash power.
Perhaps this will replace Solidcoin.

Jump in before its too late.
I already started; so you can call me a early adopter;

And i can even toss some bounty to a few that gets in.

Prizes for using exchange + mining,
post hash rate; and exchange usage.
-----------------------------------

5000 for 1st
2500 for 2nd
1000 for 3rd
500 for 4th
250 4th to 10th
50 For all after {limited offer}

Be quick these prizes will go fast.
Post wallet; and mining rate + usage of exchange.
And i will give you your prize.

Be reasonable; like don't run with 1 hash, and 0.0001 i0coin on exchange;
that isn't really helping the i0coin currency. I want a trader and a miner.
More of a full timer, then a person who just wants the prize.
This is to help it; i want to promote i0coin.

If everyone has fear of i0coin and jumps out it will die;
we need everyone to mine together, and not jump out.
If there's no fear it wouldn't die. Just need a higher hash power and we would
be fine.

Compare to solidcoin; it is a gpu hostile currency and i0coin is a gpu friendly currency.
A lot of people here bought gpus; do you want your gpus worth nothing?
I perfer a gpu friendly currency over cpu.

Stop solidcoin; and by the looks of it it looks dead. We need i0coin to replace it

"Mooncoin was hacked but I Mr Moon will never be able to prove it because my identity was completely hijacked. My accounts were deleted which made it so I could no longer maintain support for my site.

I believe this was because I maintained my solidcoin exchange. I personally did not want to side with anyone, I wanted to just build an exchange for digital currencies. My site became collateral damage in the childish drama that ensued. At the same time the chain forked, and there were threats of 51% attacks and I believe this is not random coincidence, I believe it this was a planned destruction of solidcoin.

The database was compromised but nearly all the passwords were stored in bcrypt so they should be safe. My home directory was trashed, but my backups only proved the wallets to be empty. I have been silent because to be honest I have had no idea of how to respond to this. This message itself will likely be ignored.

The project is still open if anyone wants to try to take it over and continue it.

260  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Is this possible? Mix match between two compters power supply on: September 22, 2011, 08:31:42 AM
I have jumped a power supply; and ran it to my second ati 6950 in my computer and worked fine; but this power supply died about a week later; kinda bad luck. But I have something interesting I thought of; in my other computer I have two ati 6770 in it; and they require one 6 pin power connector instead of two like the ati 6950s. And this power supply has 4 of them; and i am only using two of them. Could I in theory put my computer next to this computer; and use the other power supply in the other computer that is running the ati 6770; and use the two spare into the single ati 6950?

Is the cross power supply between two computers a issue? would it work? In plain theory; a power supply provides just power; so it should work; Never thought of this; just came to mind.

Its a 750 Watts power supply; should work with two ati 6770 + one ati 6950; and I have a low wattage cpu; like 65 watts; not 125watts; so that should make some difference. And some research shows that with two ati 6770 there is just enough room for the ati 6950; And i can just under clock it worse comes to worse. Better then not running.

It would look interesting; like seeing two desktops together; and one power supply powering the two ati 6770; and the 1 ati 6950 in the other computer. The other computer has two ati 6950; but the power supply in it only has two 6 pin connectors; not four; so i have to borrow from some other power supply. I just hope that this cross between two computers won't cause some sort of conflict and cause it to both get fried or something; losing $1500.
