201  Other / Off-topic / Guess what I went and bought tonight... on: September 18, 2015, 03:32:48 AM
Reading Glasses.   Embarrassed   1.50x

I've been noticing I get a headache after studying for a couple hours.  The words just aren't in focus anymore.  I'm getting old at 44.

What have you bought that you didn't want to?
202  Economy / Reputation / About Quickscammer on: September 17, 2015, 04:38:54 PM
This forum sure has changed in the 3 months since I was gone.

Seems it's the wild west now - scammer after scammer creating anonymous accounts, backing each other up, posting BS everywhere.  Admins seem powerless or unwilling to do anything.

Ugh - after a good sleep I have decided to listen to the community and back off QS.  He is free to sue me and I look forward to that.

He was a hard scammer to bust, and it cost me a bit of reputation.  But at least now the community sees him for what he is:

I'm done interacting with him for everyone's sake.

Peace out!
203  Other / Meta / Add decimal to Reported Posts Accuracy on: September 17, 2015, 07:46:10 AM

Theymos, would it be possible for you to add a single decimal (make it 98.1% instead of 98%) to allow us to track our accuracy better?

I know seeing the number change 10x more often would motivate me a lot more, and I don't think it would take too long to implement.

Thanks for the consideration.  Smiley
204  Economy / Marketplace / YOU ARE ENTITLED TO A REFUND if you used Quickseller/Panther52 as an escrow on: September 13, 2015, 08:04:31 AM
If you took out a loan in the last few months, and used Quickseller/Panther52 as an escrow, QS says you are entitled to a refund of his escrow fees.

Why?  He was recently caught escrowing for himself.  When you pay a premium to a third party, you expect protection.  Quickseller took the premium but did not provide any additional protection and was certainly not a third party.  He basically just added on a free fee for himself under the guise of protection.   95% of the forum said his actions were unethical/not OK.

He has offered to refund anyone who used his bogus escrow service.  This thread will serve as ledger.

If you were escrow scammed by Quickseller or any of his alts (Panther52, AcctSeller, possibly other), please do the following in a single message:

The amount you paid for escrow
The forum thread where the deal went down (so we can verify)
Update your post when QS pays you back

This thread will be self moderated to avoid disruption.  Quickseller, you are not welcome here - do not post.
Quickseller was removed from Default Trust for trying to deceive basically the entire forum, pretending to be banned to throw attention off his scam.

205  Economy / Service Discussion / Is escrowing for yourself using a secret alt OK? on: September 09, 2015, 01:01:56 AM

THIS POLL WILL RUN FOR 7 DAYS
YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR VOTE AT ANY TIME

I was one of the first people to consistently push for the use of escrow, even before default trust existed.

I view escrow as a trusted third party that can act as a mediator should the buyer and seller disagree. It also prevents the seller from running off the coins, or the buyer stealing intellectual property without paying for it.

An escrow can either be free, ask for tips, or charge a flat or sliding scale.

If the person you are trading with is also the escrow, you have no protection from intentional fraud or accidental issues.

What do you think?

YES - Earn what you can, however you can.  Doesn't matter if a service is being purchased and not provided.
NO - An escrow should be a neutral third party.  The fee paid is considered like an insurance premium for protection
206  Other / Meta / Black vs Green positive trust on: September 07, 2015, 01:09:57 PM
Recently (today) I first noticed someone people have positive trust that is black (not green).

Is there any significance to this?
207  Other / Off-topic / Respect the Religion! on: September 07, 2015, 09:09:56 AM
I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! don't do it!"
"Why shouldn't I?" he said.

I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"
He said, "Like what?"

I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?"
He said, "Religious."

I said, "Me too! Are you christian or Buddhist?"
He said, "Christian."

I said, "Me too! Are you catholic or protestant?"
He said, "Protestant."

I said, "Me too! Are you episcopalian or baptist?"
He said, "Baptist!"

I said,"Wow! Me too! Are you baptist church of god or baptist church of the lord?"
He said, "Baptist church of god!" I said, "Me too! Are you original baptist church of god, or are you reformed baptist church of god?"

He said,"Reformed Baptist church of god!"
I said, "Me too! Are you reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1879, or reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1915?"

He said, "Reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1915!"

I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off.

I'm trying to figure out how to turn on my LED light when I have notifications, but NOT when it is charging.

It was working fine when I first got it a couple months ago but I played around with it and now I can't get it working.

The LED will stay lit when it is charging - I don't want that.  I only want it to blink when I have a notification.

Thanks.
209  Other / Meta / No more scam busting! on: May 29, 2015, 10:09:30 PM
I am announcing my retirement from scam busting.

Bitcoin has been very nice to me, allowing me to retire early at age 43.  I felt I really needed to give back to that which had given so much to me, so I was very active on this forum fighting scams.  As of this date I have spent over 136 days fighting the good fight.  I gave up the chance to make money by escrowing, using a paid signature, running a business, moderating, etc.  I wasn't here to make money but to try and help other people from losing coins.

Over the past year, after selling my coins, I have vastly reduced my computer clients and built my dream home while making this forum my virtual home.  Over the last few days I have given away my remaining bitcoin for various project work.  I no longer hold any significant bitcoin, and thus have a reduced vested interest in keeping the bitcoin price high.  That includes doing my little part to combat fraud here.  The only project I am working on now is exposing Armis' long term con on the official PICISI website, which will be complete by June 5th.

Luckily over the past year there has been an influx of new scam busters being added to the default trust list, reducing my work load considerably. Many times I go to leave negative trust and see it's already been done!  I am throwing the torch to these individuals and thank them in advance for their service to the community.

On June 6th I'm planning to execute a life long dream and buy a small sailboat to leave from Vancouver, sail down the coast, through the Panama Canal, and back up to Halifax.  I'm expecting it to take most of the summer. If you live on the coast and would like to go for a beer (or just see the boat!), please email me at martin@martinlawrence.caSmiley

DISCLAIMERS:
1.  I will be locking this thread for now as it will only be filled with complaints from scammers I have busted.
2.  I will be blocking everyone's PMs within the week.  People may not see this and I don't want them believing they sent a message that I may never read.
3.  I am retiring the name Vod.  If anyone, anywhere else claims to be "Vod from Bitcointalk", they are lying.

I'll sincerely miss the good times I had in the Off Topic and Political Discussion sections with some great people on here.  The last couple days have been an emotional one for sure, but I know things will be better in the future, if I don't drown that is!  I got quite sucked up into this community and for that reason I don't know if I'll reconnect when I return.  Since I'm not scam busting there will be better communities to joke around on that don't have all the drama and dishonesty/scamming.  TC and Dooglus have my contact information should I need to change any negative trust I have left.

I wish good luck to all the honest people out there and I wish the overall bitcoin community continued success!  Thanks to the admins and mods for their hard and thankless work.

Feel free to blame me for this. Smiley

Vod Bless.

Who wants to bet this will make her our first one billion dollar singer?

I just threw away your time?

Don't throw away your coins.

Only escrow and don't make deals with newbies via private message.

212  Other / Meta / Defense against Armis' OVERWHELM AND CONFUSE ongoing attack on: May 14, 2015, 12:44:53 PM
I'm running this poll since the one created by Armis is diluted (i.e. he has too many options to throw off the results.)

The question is simple:

Would a reasonable person look at this title and assume it was a charitable organization?
PICISI: Philanthropic Investment and Charity for Inventions, Startups, and Ideas

This poll will only run for one day, since everyone who cares to vote will vote within that time.

Thanks.

213  Other / Off-topic / Is there a word for this? on: May 14, 2015, 04:25:43 AM
Shuffling through all your open browser tabs to find out which one is playing the video/music.

Is there a word for this?  Should we make one up?

So fricking annoying when videos start automatically, and even worse when they delay for a few seconds/mins after you open the page!
214  Other / Meta / Why was there no notification of password change? on: May 08, 2015, 11:00:23 AM
According to the seclog, the user Operatr changed his password on May 06, 2015, 12:43:33 PM
https://bitcointalk.org/seclog.php

It was my understanding that their profile should have a warning that the user recently changed password!
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=92499

This user was asking for a loan here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1054247.0

My first instinct was the account was hacked, but I viewed the profile and there was no warning.

It appears this scammer made off with 0.25btc.  Sad   He/she went offline as soon as they got the coin.

Edit:  It appears the password reset message is showing on his trust page.  It should be shown on the main profile page as well, IMO.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=92499

(Neotox - this was my ignorance, sorry I let you down man and couldn't warn you away.)
215  Other / Off-topic / When did you first get on the internet? on: May 08, 2015, 10:49:28 AM
For me it was early 1995.  (Can anyone beat that?)

I was using OS2/Warp on Windows 3.1

With every purchase of OS/2 they gave you an ibm.net email address.

Back then the WWW was in it's infancy, with most pages just being text.

Before 1995 I used to log into homemade BBS systems.

217  Other / Meta / MSN info not saving in profile (SOLVED!!) on: March 27, 2015, 06:55:14 AM
Theymos, I know you are very busy, so if you don't have time to look into this, I can wait until the new forum.  It's not important.

I typed "MSN?" into the MSN profile field but it doesn't save.  It keep coming back blank.

I also tried without the ? thinking it might be a character issue but still nothing.

Again, this is in no way important to me.  Smiley
218  Other / Off-topic / Rufus Cuff on: March 26, 2015, 04:26:22 AM
Anyone else thinking of buying the Rufus Cuff when it comes out?

http://rufuslabs.com/

It has a 3" screen and is very large on your wrist.  You will get noticed wearing it.

I'm getting one for sure.  Smiley
219  Other / Meta / Why is the trust changing so much? on: March 25, 2015, 02:55:12 AM
I came upon a user account KeyserSozeMC that admitted to scamming someone.  I left this person negative trust.

His trust changed so much that I removed the trust and re-added it, because I couldn't believe what I saw.

His trust before and after my negative feedback.

How can this be?  I don't think I would be able to sleep at night if I had this much power.   Undecided

Less than two years ago I had most of my teeth capped.  (I had acid reflux all my life and most of my teeth were rotted down to the root.)

Now a single tooth has popped off it's cap.  I see my dentist next Monday, but was wondering what should I do to keep the tooth clean until then?
