1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN] Membercoin - Layer1 For Web3 with 10% Protocol Interest on: August 04, 2022, 03:33:53 AM
Membercoin - Layer1 For Web3

Original: https://member.cash/p/19af0a752e

Summary

Membercoin is the native cryptocurrency coin for the web3 social network, Member. Every action (posting, following, liking etc) requires a small amount of Membercoin. Demand for these actions drive demand for Membercoin.

Coinomics

  • Membercoin has an initial issue of 100m coins.
  • 2m coins are issued each year to miners.
  • 10% interest is paid on all balances.
  • 50% of transaction fees are burned.

Total supply is expected to increase to a 156m maximum due to the fixed costs of interest payments and mining subsidies minus the variable revenue of burned transaction fees. After a 42 month period, total supply is expected to begin to decline due to transaction fee burns (estimated at 50% increase per month) outweighing interest and mining costs.

Other opportunities to burn coins may also become available - for example through registering unique usernames or other services requiring the coin.

Distribution

New crypto projects grow by disproportionately rewarding early adopters. Bitcoin disproportionately rewarded early miners. Ethereum disproportionately rewarded early investors. Member disproportionately rewards early users.

100% of Membercoin's initial issuance will be distributed to users and developers as the userbase grows. This will be distributed in tips automatically awarded by algorithms that analyze the blockchain to identify members that are helping to grow the activity on Member. The founder developer reward is 10%, issued as the supply is distributed. Similar rewards may be made to other developers contributing substantially to the project.

Social Platform - member.cash

member.cash is an open source web3 platform that has been under development for over 5 years. It aggregates content from multiple web3 projects including Memo, Bitclout, Deso, Hive.  It also aggregates content from web2 and RSS feeds, allowing members to follow users from platforms such as Twitter, YouTube, Substack etc.

member.cash also includes innovative features like of web-of-trust that allows members to rate each other, and geoposting that allows posts to be tied to map locations. Membercoin is the native coin of member.cash and is required to interact with the content and members on the platform.

Philosophy

Membercoin is the free speech layer of the Member project. As a blockchain with a decentralized miners, no-one has control over the transactions that take place at the blockchain level. Thus any content can be posted and any replies, ratings, follows and other social media actions can be made without fear of censorship. Accounts, content and associations cannot be confiscated, banned or otherwise curtailed.

Membercoin is intended to be a blockchain of record - unlike a newspaper website, it is not possible to alter history with stealth edits to a blockchain.

Technicals

Membercoin uses Blake3 POW mining. This was chosen for its readily available WASM (fast web browser code) implementation, allowing new members to mine a little in the browser to easily get started posting on member.cash. An upgrade to a modified RandomX POW is currently under consideration.

Membercoin is a fork of the Bitcoin Unlimited codebase. Optimized for massive transaction processing scalability, it is a robust, battle hardened codebase that allows for immediate Membercoin mining decentralization, smart contracts via CashScript and integration with standard UTXO blockchain technology.

2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / [ANN] Membercoin - layer 1 coin for web3 social network member.cash on: May 24, 2022, 05:23:39 AM
I'm going to be launching a new coin soon - Membercoin.

It'll be the main coin used by the web3 member.cash social network site so it'll automatically have a use.

I need help in a few areas, especially help with a mining pool, WASM, RUST, and electrum server/block explorer.

More details as they are released at

https://member.cash/#show?start=0&limit=25&order=new&content=posts&filter=everyone&qaddress=-2124810688269680833

If you have these or other skills and you'd like to be involved from the start, hit me up to discuss the details.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / "Paying YObit to list is like paying somebody to punch you in the face" on: February 06, 2018, 01:17:56 PM
A few years ago, I was considering paying YOBit to get listed. HOdlcoin didn't have an exchange and everybody was eager to trade. "Paying YObit to list is like paying somebody to punch you in the face", Fuzzbawls cheerfully remarked. Fuzzbawls is older and wiser than me. Or at least I hope he's older, cause he's certainly fucking wiser. I couldn't see the downsides, so I paid up the .1BTC. Fuck I wish I hadn't. Their incompetence and dishonesty are destroying HOdlcoin.

The problem came we updated the coin. We gave them a weeks notice of the upcoming fork, they just ignored it, and left trading open on the old branch. They took deposits on the old chain and when they eventually updated to the new chain, they couldn't meet their obligations. Now they don't have enough HODL to cover their deposits. Rather than resolve the situation, they've left trading open, but disabled deposits and withdrawals. This is causing a lot of uncertainty for HOdlcoin, and it is difficult for the coin to grow because of it.

YObit has also now announced a new policy of charging for every update - so expect a neverending stream of requests for more BTC to continue support for your coin. Who knows what they'll charge for next? Maybe they'd be better off trying to charge for NOT listing your coin. That would certainly be better value.

And if you have funds on YObit? Don't. You're gonna get bitten sooner or later. Whether it is through their incompetence or dishonesty, you'll eventually get punched in the face too.

5  Bitcoin / Project Development / Need Help Configuring Bitcoinocracy (Ruby) + Ruby Dev Work on: June 19, 2016, 03:30:45 AM
I want to get Bitcoinocracy for use with an altcoin (HOdlcoin) where I expect high participation from coin owners to decide the coin's future.

Steps forward are:

1) Set up Bitcoinocracy on a new host and get it running smoothly (Currently stalled with this on Heroku)

2) Tweak the parameters so that it works with HOdlcoin (Not sure what's required here, maybe just a change of block explorer URL)

3) Add new features for usability. (Accepting multiple signed statements in one go would be a good start, new requirements will emerge as usage grows)

Private message me to discuss terms or compensation - public message any general comments.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / [ANN] Wolf's GBT CPU HODL Miner - Bounty Fund on: April 06, 2016, 04:39:35 AM
After a round of all-night negotiations, The Wolf has agreed to provide the HOdlcoin community with an open-source, GBT CPU miner if a 1.25 BTC bounty can be raised.

GBT, Get Block Template, will support better decentralization for HOdlcoin as it allows clients to create the blocks to mine, making it more difficult for pools to block or control transactions.

The miner will be capable of solo operation and will also run with compatible pools.

I'm starting a fund here -

https://blockchain.info/address/1WoLFzJJbzh5SrQSG2T3YHujCD2G2sN8J

I'm kicking it off with a .25 BTC contribution and ask for your support for this development.

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / [HODL] 1989 Twitter Contest - 68,000 HODL in Prizes on: March 04, 2016, 09:08:25 AM
Why 1989?

This is a twitter contest to guess why the number 1989 is HOdlcoin's official number.

To enter, just retweet this tweet (https://twitter.com/HOdlcoin/status/705686960006832128) with your guess and your HOdlcoin address.

The top prize is 1,000 HODL - this will be a term locked deposit and will be worth about 34,000 HODL on maturation.

In the event more than one person guesses the right answer - the most entertaining right answer (as judged by me) will win.

Second prize of 500 HODL for most entertaining tweet. - term locked deposit ~17,000 HODL on maturation.
Third prize of 500 HODL for most re-tweeted entry - term locked deposit ~17,000 HODL on maturation.

Terms: One entry per person.
Closing date: 14th March 2016 23:59:59 UTC

About HOdlcoin.

HOdlcoin pays interest on every balance, and had big interest bonuses for early adopters. Like the prizes above, an amount of HODL now can be term locked for a period of a year and grow in size by 34 times. That's down from 40 times last month, and will be down to 30 times next month.

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Hodor to play no further part in HOdlcoin on: February 24, 2016, 09:53:50 AM
I was shocked and disappointed to learn recently via a lawyer's letter that Hodor is not, in fact, a real person, but a fictional character from a book and television installment series. I was further shocked to learn this series deals with such unwholesome topics as incest, murder, torture, rape, mutilation and marriage. The risk of tarnishment by association is too great for the project. To protect the good name of HOdlcoin, the HOdlcoin team has decided to reject and refuse any further endorsement from Mr. Hodor. While we understand this may cause disappointment for HBO, George R. R. R. Martin, and Mr. Hodor himself, we feel there is really no other way forward. All images and links will be removed forthwith.

HOdl out.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Bounty for HOdlcoin CPU miner on: February 22, 2016, 01:49:58 AM
Just wanted to bring this bounty to the notice of the altcoin miner community.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1366011.0

HOdlcoin pays interest on every balance and has big bonuses for early adopters. It has had a very good start, with the network hash rate continually climbing. There is now considerable interest in trading, but we'd like to see a pool miner before an exchange listing, so that new users can get started earning coins without having to wait too long for a lucky block.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / [HODL] Bounty for CPU Miner - Now at Ħ4000 on: February 16, 2016, 02:38:50 AM
Update: This task has now been successfully completed and the bounty has been paid.

I'm setting up a bounty fund for a completed CPU miner for HOdlcoin on behalf of the HOdlcoin team.

We're looking for a CPU miner to help get mining pools started. The job involves updating a cpu-miner to include the HOdl algorithm and producing a windows and linux binary that can then be used with standard pool software.

Preferred solution is as a pull request to

https://github.com/HOdlcoin/GOdl

(fork of tpruvot/cpuminer-multi)

The bounty fund is at

HGoDLMxjWsuLfq3mEBJL463KwVMtcD6d32
http://www.tekyexplorer.xyz/hodl/address.php?address=HGoDLMxjWsuLfq3mEBJL463KwVMtcD6d32

Bounty will be paid on completion

50% as an immediate payment
50% as a term locked deposit (matures in 1 year at approx 40X amount)

Anybody can add to the fund, just send funds to the address above.

Update 1:
I'm putting in a floor of .00010000 for the first 4000 HODL of the bounty - if the price falls below that, I'll purchase up to 4000 at that price from the winner.

Update 2:

Sam has added a BTC Bounty - to be stored at

1BountyELvhYAqKFPr6aFCBKyAJTjywoqW
https://blockchain.info/address/1BountyELvhYAqKFPr6aFCBKyAJTjywoqW

Winner will receive both bounties and anyone can add to either bounty address.

12  Bitcoin / Project Development / Creating CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY transactions from the QT GUI on: January 19, 2016, 11:09:24 AM
I'm working on an altcoin that will rely heavily on CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY - it allows users to earn interest on their balances if they tie them up for a set number of blocks using CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY.

More details -
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1317918.0

I want to implement this in the QT GUI, but I'm having a devil of a time trying to create a CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY transaction. I just can't find where the scriptpubkey for standard transactions is created when sending coins. I want to find that so that I can create a CLTV transaction instead. Can anyone provide code or point me to the right place in the codebase.

I'm posting this here because I think it'll be useful to Bitcoin to have a project testing CLTV functionality before it becomes available for Bitcoin users.

Many thanks,

What is it?

HOdlcoin is just like Bitcoin Cash, but it pays interest on every balance. This is to recognize the importance of HODLers and properly reward HODLing. 1% per day interest (375% APR) is paid on regular balances, and up to 2% per day interest ((750% APR)) is paid on coins HODL'd for 1 year. No staking, mining, or counterparty is required. Interest is guaranteed by the blockchain.

Mining
Solo mining is still possible and is the recommended way of supporting the network. Mining reward is 50 HODL.

Wallet:
Mining direct from the wallet is easy to get started with and is reasonably efficient.
These flags can be used on the command line to attempt to enable more efficient mining - These can give 100% gains, but may cause an immediate crash on some processors.

Proof of Work

1GB AES Pattern Search POW. Pattern Search involves filling up RAM with pseudo-random data, and then conducting a search for the start location of an AES encrypted data pattern in that data. Pattern Search is an evolution of the ProtoShares Momentum PoW, first used in MemoryCoin and later modified for use in CryptoNight(Monero,Bytecoin), Ethash(Ethereum).  CPU/GPU friendly. The POW Algorithm is considered a technical detail and is subject to change to favor CPU and consumer grade hardware with the intention of keeping mining participatory and distributed.

Interest

Current Interest Rates and Page - http://hodlcoin.github.io/

1. The Standard Interest Rate
Interest is paid on regular balances (outputs), on every block, for a period of up to 30 days (561x30 blocks). The rate is approximately 375% APR or (75/2^22)%, compounded every block. Interest is paid on casual balances for up to 30 days.

2. Term Deposits
If you lock an amount of HODL as a term deposit, you get a bonus on the interest. The longer the deposit, the bigger bonus.

Term deposit Rates

1 year term (742%)
6 month term (682%)
3 month term (581%)
1 month term (457%)
Active balance (375%)

When a Term Deposit matures, it stops earning interest - you must move it to start earning interest again.

How To Make A Term Deposit:

Video guide: https://youtu.be/_7CUiORCZGY
Graphical guide: https://github.com/FreeTrade/HOdlcoin/blob/HODLCoin0.11.3/doc/README.md

1. Go to the Term Deposit tab. It looks like a little bank.
2. Enter your own address, the amount of the term deposit, and the length you to deposit for.
3. Click HODL

A popup will appear telling you how much interest you can expect. Click OK if you want to continue. Another popup will ask your if you're sure, click OK again, and your term deposit instruction will be sent.

Remember, once you HODL, those funds are LOCKED until the maturation date. That's the price you pay for the term deposit bonus.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Do Any Altcoins implement Fixed-Deposit Interest Payments in the Blockchain yet? on: January 06, 2016, 10:08:54 AM
I was reading an interesting article by Dan Larimer of BitShares . . .

http://bytemaster.github.io/article/2016/01/04/The-Benefits-of-Proof-of-Work/

It covers a number of issues, but the most interesting part of it is the benefits of allowing for interest payments based on tying up funds for a set period of time.

So a user might receive a 5% interest payment on his funds if he agrees not to move them for a period of 1 year.

I'm wondering if there is an implementation of this in any altcoin yet?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Cryptsy Users - Withdraw Your PTS or Risk Losing It - Immediate Action Needed on: December 09, 2014, 11:07:15 AM
If you're holding any PTS (Bitshares PTS, formerly ProtoShares) on Cryptsy, I recommend that you withdraw it to your wallet now.

There's an upcoming mandatory fork that upgrades PTS from PoW to DPOS that enjoys the broad support of the PTS community.
https://bitsharestalk.org/index.php?topic=11877.0

Cryptsy has not so far responded to any of the devs or stakeholders as to how it intends to respond to the upgrade.

Considering previous form regarding distributions and lack of support for DPOS assets, there is a high risk that Crypsty won't support users in the transition and that users will lose their PTS.

The valuation date for the upgrade takes place on the 14th of December. However, the PTS network has slowed to a crawl, sometimes seeing only 1 block a day so I recommend placing the withdrawal order ASAP.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Betting on the blockchain - Chancecoin vs. LottoShares on: August 22, 2014, 12:36:02 PM
Two of the most interesting new altcoins come with a built-in casino. They allow users to make bets in the blockchain. The bets are automatically resolved in the blockchain by miners using open source software. Essentially they are distributed and de-centralized casinos. Here's a comparison of the two players.

Blockchain security:
Chancecoin: Piggybacks on the Bitcoin blockchain using the Counterparty model.
LottoShares: Forked from Litecoin and uses its own blockchain. It supports merge-mining with other scrypt coins.

Distribution:
Chancecoin: Proof of Burn : Investors burned 480 BTC in 240 transactions.
LottoShares: Distributed to a wide range of addresses in existing coins (20% to BTC, 20% to DOGE, 10% to PTS, 10% to AGS, 10% to MMC,  6.6% FBC, 10.9% SHC, 8% to Devs, 4.5% to various bloggers, exchanges, websites, btctalk users)

Comment: Chancecoin's distribution ensures a small initial number committed number of shareholders who have sacraficed BTC for their stake. LottoShare's distribution ensures a wider base of less-involved shareholders.

Games:
Chancecoin:
Dice Game (1% House Edge + 3 cents transaction fee)
Video Poker (1% House Edge + 3 cents transaction fee)

LottoShares:
Dice Game (0% House Edge, no transaction fee)
Lottery (15% House Edge, no transaction fee)

Maximum Win:
Chancecoin: 1% of bankroll
LottoShares: No maximum

Bet Resolution:
Chancecoin: ~ 5 seconds
LottoShares: ~ 20 seconds

LottoShares is a coin that allows you to play dice with 0% house edge.

It offers a range of odds from 1/1024 to 1/1 to 1024/1 -

The bets are made in the blockchain, and resolve every block.

You can also play the lottery if you're feeling stupid (15% house edge).

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / LottoShares on: August 06, 2014, 06:36:04 AM
I wanted to start a discussion about possible new features and changes for the coin.

LottoShares Brief

For those new to the coin, LottoShares is a coin with a built in profit-making lottery. It is 100% distributed, with 20% airdropped to Dogecoin holders, 20% airdropped to Bitcoin holders and 60% to other coins. The owners who don't play the lottery are shareholders, who become richer through a gradually declining supply caused by those who do. It is similar to ChanceCoin, but uses its own blockchain (so lower fees) and pays from the coinbase (so no limit on prize size).

LottoShares Future

Which of these idea should be implemented next? (Or suggest other ideas)

1. Faster draw times - we're currently reliant on the NY lottery numbers draw for random numbers. They are delaying the numbers by 20 minutes or so, with a shutdown for a few hours each day, and 30 minutes each day where no draws take place. While this gives indisputable fairness in random selection, it comes with a lot of drawbacks. An alternate method is to use a secret key to encrypt the block hash and use this as a seed. This would give results as soon as the transaction is included in a block. It is still provably fair, but open to a miner optionality cheat by the secret key holder.

2. Faster block times - with faster draws, we can further increase the pace by reducing the block time. Currently at 150 seconds, maybe 30 or 60 seconds would make it more immediate.

3. Short odds games - most lottery tickets played lose - it's a long odds game. A dice game, or roulette game, or betting on specific lottery numbers would produce more winners and increase engagement with the game.

4. None of the above - current features are fine, just needs more promotion.
